EDITOR’S MESSAGE: aking on a charity challenge is one of the best ways to see how far our limits can be pushed. The responsibility of raising as much as possible for a worthy cause can spur us on to achieve things we’d never normally dream of doing. Four ladies from Tankersley Park Golf Club really took this to heart last month when they doubled their fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support. After completing a 72-hole, 14-hour golfing marathon, they were delighted to raise almost £3,000 for the charity. Read all about their quest on page 26. Our managing director has also been enjoying a few rounds recently, albeit in a more lavish location. With eight courses and plenty of luxurious hotels, Tenerife is a golfer’s paradise. You can check out his highlights on page 44. We’ve also been talking to headteachers at local independent schools (page 47). If you have ever wondered what their typical day entails, why they love education and what motivates them to drive their school forward, now is your chance to find out. If you have a story to share, are hosting an event that you’d like us to publicise or have photographs of a recent celebration or event, we’d love to hear from you. Email Stephanie.Burns@regionalmagazine.co.uk or call me on 0114 250 6300 (Monday to Thursday 9am-5.30pm and Friday 9am-4pm). If you have a business and would like to advertise in Pulse, please call Publishing Manager Helen Wragg on 0114 250 6300 or email Helen.Wragg@regionalmagazine.co.uk. You can also follow us on Twitter (@PulseRMC) or read Pulse (and the rest of Regional Magazine Company’s titles) online at www.regionalmagazine.co.uk. See you next month.

PROMOTIONTHE SCHOOLROOMS

Back to its best… a new manager at The Schoolrooms has revived this well-loved Bradfield café. picture-perfect scene awaits at Low Bradfield, where the stone-built houses, active community spirit and variety of local businesses keep the village ticking along beautifully. Villagers, visitors and the area’s keen walkers will be thrilled to hear that one of these businesses – The Schoolrooms – is now under new management and thriving once more. New manager Kirsty Clark has a wealth of experience in the catering industry, having spent three years as manager of Silversmiths in Sheffield city centre before developing her career further in London. She is now back in Yorkshire and delighted to have taken the reins at The Schoolrooms, where she is busy revitalising the well-loved café and tearooms. “We’ve taken it back to its best with a strong emphasis on local, traditional, good quality food that is made to order,” explains Kirsty. The menu offers a good mix of breakfast options, sandwiches, light bites and a few bigger dishes such as the burger (served with fat chips, baby gem lettuce, tomato, red onion, gherkin and a spicy tomato and caramelised onion relish) and the slow-cooked brisket (served with new potatoes, seasonal vegetables and homemade gravy). What’s more, each Friday, Bradfield Brewery-battered haddock (with fat chips, tartar sauce and mushy peas) is just £5. All meat and vegetables, as well as deli boards, quiches, pork pies, chutneys and pickles, are from The Schoolroom’s shop and onsite butchery, where you can also buy cheese, olives, antipasti and a huge variety of fresh, locally sourced meat. The café counter groans with hard-

A

to-resist cakes, scones and traybakes, which are a perfect match for The Schoolrooms’ own coffee, roasted in North Yorkshire. If you love the taste, make sure you pick up a bag from the shop when you leave. Locally roasted coffee isn’t the only item worth stopping for. The shop is now being restocked with new and exciting products that reflect The Schoolrooms’ traditional, rustic feel. “I’m trying to source a bit of everything so, whether you’re nipping in for a special something or doing your weekly shop, there’ll be plenty of choice,” says Kirsty. As you’d expect, many products are sourced from local independent suppliers, including a variety of fresh bread, eggs, milk, beer, fruit, vegetables and ice cream. You’ll also find a good selection of premium soft drinks, gluten-free products, speciality foods, sauces, dressings, seasonings and their own line of chutneys, jams and pickles. “The Schoolrooms has so much potential and I plan to take advantage of every opportunity,” says Kirsty. “We welcome everyone from walkers with muddy boots and young families to locals and visitors looking for a true taste of the countryside. I’m also planning a series of seasonal events and bistro evenings to cater for all.” Kirsty already has her first event lined up – a Blooming Great Tea Party on 29 July to raise money for Marie Curie. In addition to a mouth-watering selection of cakes – served outside if the weather is fine – there will be a raffle to help raise as much as possible for this worthy cause. There are also plans for a toddler group on a Wednesday morning. As a former Rainbow leader for seven years, Kirsty looks forward to offering craft activities for the children while parents enjoy a well-deserved coffee and cake break. The brand new enclosed playground is also sure to keep the kids active and occupied throughout the summer. So, next time you’re out and about in Bradfield, don’t miss your opportunity to discover all that The Schoolrooms has to offer. PULSEIN BRIEF

Students’ charity walk for children’s service Two groups of childcare and education professions students and staff from Barnsley College walked 2.5 miles from the Old Mill Lane campus to Worsbrough Mill in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity, who will direct the money raised to Embrace, Yorkshire and Humber’s infant and children’s transport service. Course leader Karen Mason said: “This is the latest in a series of walks which students have undertaken to raise funds for the service and we are delighted to support Embrace in this way.” It’s not too late to apply for a childcare and education professions course at Barnsley College. Call 01226 216 123 for more information.

PULSEEATING OUT

Stephanie Burns finds generous portions and low prices hit the spot. Photography: Stephanie Burns

PUB PERFECTION n balmy summer evenings there are few greater pleasures than escaping to a beer garden and soaking up the last of the day’s rays, drink in hand. It was on one such occasion last month that my friend and I sought out a Grenoside pub – the Old Red Lion, or Top Red Lion as its known – to celebrate the eventual arrival of summer. However, I should probably admit a fairly important part of the story here – we weren’t really there for the beer garden. It was the food we’d come to try out and, though I felt a pang of jealously as we walked past the people outside, I knew – from the many recommendations I’d received about the place – that the standard of food would more than make up for missing out on the sun. I’m delighted to say that those recommendations were well deserved and our experience at this 15th century coach house was thoroughly enjoyable. It began with a warm welcome from Aydan, our waiter for the evening. Friendly, knowledgeable and jovial throughout, he was a pleasure to deal with and a credit to the pub. He showed us to our table in a cosy nook and took our drinks order – refreshing white wine spritzer and G&T; the best way to capture a true taste of summer. While we browsed the extensive menu, Aydan popped back to tell us the specials. Though sorely tempted by the seafood lasagne – a heady mix of cod, haddock, prawns and mussels, which had apparently sold out in half an hour last time it was on the menu – it was the duck salad that caught my dining companion’s attention, and I had instantly decided on the gourmet burger. Before we tucked into our mains, however, we had the pleasure of two seafood starters. My fishcakes – crispy on the outside, smooth and fluffy on the inside – were piping hot and served with fresh salad and plenty of sweet chilli sauce. Along with my friend’s delicious prawn cocktail, complete with a good chunk of brown bread, we were off to a winning start and had soon cleared our plates. Our much-anticipated main courses kept standards sky high. A mountain of warm shredded duck, with crisp salad leaves, tomato,

red onion, carrot and pepper, came served in a great big bowl and went down a treat. My burger – succulent, smothered in cheese and bacon, and served with chips, a giant crispy onion ring, homemade purple coleslaw and a side salad – was a steal at just £6.95. Despite the low price tag, portions are incredibly generous and make the whole experience feel even more indulgent. Though fit to burst, we couldn’t resist a dessert and were soon cooing over a rich sticky toffee pudding with lashings of custard and a Belgian waffle with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. The perfect way to end a great meal. Fantastic food at great prices coupled with friendly, attentive staff make the Old Red Lion a must-visit.

PULSEFUNDRAISING

QUEENS OF THE GREENS

From left: Karen Elliott, Kerry Lamb, Cath Lake and Debbie Travis

Four intrepid lady golfers smashed their fundraising target after taking on the daunting challenge of playing four rounds in just one day. our ladies from north Sheffield and Barnsley took on the Longest Day Golf Challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support last month – and smashed their original fundraising target in the process. Debbie Travis, lady’s captain at Tankersley Park Golf Club (TPGC), and three fellow golfers – vice captain Kerry Lamb, past captain Karen Elliott and member Cath Lake – signed up for the 72-hole golfing marathon in a bid to raise £1,500 for the charity. They are now on course to reach £3,000 in donations thanks to the generosity of friends, family, colleagues and TPGC members. The event is a national challenge organised by Macmillan each year that encourages teams of up to four golfers to play four rounds of golf on or around the longest day of the year. In 2014, more than 1,000 teams signed up for the challenge, raising £740,000 for the charity. The best two scores from each team are submitted to the charity and the teams with the best overall scores and fundraising totals are invited to play at the prestigious Boavista Golf Resort in Portugal. With final scores of 87, 92, 86 and 74, Debbie and her team, the Tankersley Tap-ins, are not hopeful of reaching the final. “But we didn’t do it to win,” Debbie said. “We’re just so chuffed that we managed to get through it and are really pleased that we’ve raised

so much for such a good cause.” Though the ladies knew the challenge would be tough, they realised their discomfort would be nothing in comparison to a cancer patient’s suffering, and it was this thought that spurred them on throughout the 14-hour challenge. It was personal quest as they’ve all known people who have suffered with cancer; Debbie’s twin brother is currently battling prostate cancer and Kerry lost her mum to the disease. On the course by 5am, they played through the day and finished at 7pm, two-and-a-half hours earlier than expected. I caught up with the ladies half way through, when they were stopping for a spot of lunch in the clubhouse, and spirits were high. “We all love golf,” said Debbie, “Although we might feel different after round three, we’ve flown round so far and, despite how tired we usually are after just one round, we’re feeling fine after two.” Anybody can play golf, the ladies insist, but you do need a lot of patience. At which point they caught each others’ eye and laughed; maybe in an ideal world all golfers are patient. “We all started out as beginners at one time and we welcome new members with open arms,” said Karen. “We’re a friendly bunch.” Besides Cath – who grew up in the golfing heartland of Fife, played alongside now-professional Catriona Matthew and became East of Scotland champion aged 15 – the other ladies found the sport later in life. Kerry fell in love with golf after playing pitch and putt in St Ives and Debbie and Karen followed in the footsteps of their golfing husbands. They’re now unashamedly addicted to the sport and cannot speak highly enough of TPGC’s ladies’ section. But it’s not just the camaraderie that appeals. Kerry, a keen netball and hockey player when she was younger, thought she’d never play competitive sports again after being diagnosed with sciatica. In golf, she’s found a hobby that she loves. “The beauty of golf is that you can play at any age,” she said. “It’s addictive because you can always do better – there’s no such thing as a perfect round.” They’ve chosen a great course to strive for the elusive perfection. The land has had many uses over the centuries, including as an oak forest, a civil war battlefield, a baronial deer park, a coal and ironstone mining area and a battle tank testing ground, before being transformed into the beautifully manicured

golf course it is today. Behind this beauty, however, lies a course rife with challenges. “Topographically, the course is very interesting,” said Cath. “It’s not very long but it is challenging so you have to hit it straight.” The effort is rewarded with fine views over the Wentworth area, Hoober Stand and Keppel’s Column. And that’s not the only reason for the course’s popularity. The modern clubhouse hosts social events and dinner dances throughout the year and has spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. Annual memberships are available for ladies (£630), gentlemen (£1,025) and juniors (£84 including free coaching) and currently include no upfront joining fee. Flexible and five-day memberships (from £300) are also available, and societies, corporate groups and those looking to pay-as-you-play are very welcome. A new agreement with the nearby Pete Cowen Golf Academy allows members a discount on range balls and other items, and this autumn work will begin on a professional practice facility. Thanks to a £62,660 grant from Sport England, this vastly improved year-round provision, which will be available to both members and visitors, will include floodlit driving range bays, a practice green and a bunker. PROMOTIONOAKWELL CARPETS

With top brands, years of experience and great service, Oakwell Carpets have got your flooring needs covered. here are few better feelings than kicking off your shoes and sinking your feet into a plush new carpet, or showing off your new flooring to visitors. One local company, which has branches in Ecclesfield and Barnsley, specialise in providing just that. Oakwell Carpets & Flooring was established in 2010 by Pete Harwood, Lee Critchlow and David Jones, who have more than 50 years’ experience between them. They offer a personal service and plenty of choice, with top carpet brands such as Westex, Brintons and Penthouse, and a good selection of both solid and engineered wooden flooring. And this isn’t just any old wooden flooring; it is the best flooring for Britain’s temperamental climate. Lee explains: “We only stock British and Canadian wood because products from elsewhere have sometimes been dried too quickly, so when they come into contact with the damp British air they can expand and be ruined.” Oakwell are also the main dealers in the Barnsley and North Sheffield area for prestigious designer brand Amtico and are often required to supply other flooring companies in the area with their products. Though they cater primarily for the middle-to-higher end of the market with great quality products, there are also some cheaper options, which are perfect for landlords looking to redecorate a rental property or those on a tight budget. If you’d prefer not to visit the showroom, why not take advantage of the ‘at home’ service? From the comfort of your own home, you can browse samples and compare the colours and textures of them to your existing fittings and furnishings. You can even see how the lighting in each room will complement each potential floor covering. “These days, people are a lot more informed about the kind of flooring they are looking for before they even contact us,” says Lee. “Thanks to the internet, people can shop around online to see what brands and styles are available, so they often come to us with a clear idea of what they’d like. But whether you know exactly what you want, or would like our assistance and advice when choosing, we are more than happy to help.”

T

And they don’t just offer their services to domestic customers as they also do a roaring trade in the commercial sector. From lettings companies and schools to offices and nursing homes, there is a wide variety of businesses that call on Oakwell Carpets for their services. Rather than fad sales and unrealistic offers (which often mean that products have been priced too highly in the first place), they offer good value all year round. When manufacturers provide genuine offers and promotions, these savings are passed directly on to customers, so you can be assured that you will always pay the best price possible at Oakwell. When you have chosen the right floor covering for you, you won’t have to wait months for it to be fitted. In fact, most of the products that Oakwell Carpets stock can be fitted within just 48 hours. WHAT BECAME OF THE GILLOTTS? Ecclesfield handyman’s shop captured in the ‘70s efore the days of giant hardware chain stores, local handyman shops – such as W. Gillott on St Mary’s Lane – could flourish. This month’s photograph shows the shop when it was housed in a temporary building in the 1970s. The image is taken from J R Wrigley’s book An Ecclesfield Camera; a fascinating collection of photographs taken by Jack that document how Ecclesfield has changed over the years. Jack said: “I remember that Mr Gillott’s father would cut board and wood to the required size using a hand saw. I believe the family emigrated to Australia and the site became overgrown.” Do you have any memories of W. Gillott? Memories of Miss Spittlehouse Margaret Bradbury emailed Pulse after seeing the photograph of the old Ecclesfield library in last month’s issue. She said: “I lived on Priory Road just round the corner from where the picture of the old library was taken. I lived there from 1954 until 1968 and used this library, where the lovely librarian was called Miss Spittlehouse. Does this photo really depict the library in 1971 as this was after I had left and I don't remember it looking so old?” Friends of Ecclesfield Library – the registered charity that took over the running of the library after the re-organization of libraries in Sheffield last year – also contacted us, keen to share news of their new operation. Look out for a feature on their work in an upcoming issue.

TEEING OFF IN TENERIFE An inviting climate and stunning courses make the largest of the Canary islands an ideal year-round destination for golfers. raditionally Tenerife has been the first choice as a winter sun destination, offering the prospect of heat, fine beaches and a break from bleak British weather. That perception is now changing with the realisation that the island, the largest of the Canaries, offers attractions as an all-yearround destination. The principal among these is the climate – temperatures average 22 degrees centigrade and 27 degrees is rarely exceeded. There is no variation in temperature between summer and winter months and it is increasingly seen as a better alternative to traditional summer destinations such as Spain and Portugal where temperatures can be oppressive in the summer months. The tourist industry is helping to encourage this influx of new visitors in the summer by offering attractive rates for hotels and for playing golf on the eight courses on the island. The mild but warm climate in the summer makes golf a pleasure in Tenerife and golf parties or couples would be well advised to consider the island as the ideal destination. Tenerife is just over four hours’ flight time away (Monarch fly from a number of UK airports) and one of the courses closest to the airport is Golf Las Americas. The verdant 18-hole course is formed from a natural amphitheatre of land with stunning views over the Atlantic and the island of La Gomera, home to the Canaries’ ninth golf course El Tecina. The par 72 was designed by John Jacobs and is a perfect example of a really good resort course. The fairways are enticingly wide as they snake around lines of pine and palm trees and the greens, with some undulations, are fair and true. The Bermuda grass on the fairways means that clean ball striking is the order of the day. It is not unduly long and some of the shorter par fours and

fives offer the average club golfer the chance of that rare commodity: a birdie. A review would be incomplete without mention of the wonderful clubhouse with balconies overlooking the course and its exotic flowers and fauna. The quality of food and service is excellent as would be anticipated with it being part of the five-star Hotel Las Madrigueras resort. Many of the luxurious and spacious bedrooms, the terraces, the restaurant and the swimming pool overlook the course and it is ideally situated being close to both Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas. As is the case with many golfing destinations, especially on the continent, courses such as Golf Las Americas are attached to a hotel which offers discounted rates to play and stay. The rates improve in the summer months so that one night’s bed and breakfast here for two plus one round of golf is offered from 202 euros until 30 September 2015. The Abama course is another attached to a hotel, the RitzCarlton, where special rates are offered. The course contrasts markedly with Golf Las Americas; it is more of a stadium course with fair distances between tee and green which makes walking a

course on the island having staged the Spanish Ladies’ Open last September. The Pepe Gancedo layout is highly unusual – raised terraces made from boulders run across a number of fairways, old farm walls line holes and some bunkers incorporate the volcanic signature sand of Tenerife. There is a sense that the course is longestablished and very traditional. This, plus the fantastic views, makes the course a pleasure to play. A number of holes have greens perched on the headland, framed by the azure colours of the ocean below. Other courses on the island include the Manuel Pinero modified Golf del Sur, the Donald Steel designed Amarilla Golf, the Ballesteros Buenavista, the very traditional Real Club de Golf de Tenerife, and Golf la Rosaleda. Further details of golf packages and special summer rates can be found at www.webtenerife.com/golf. Golf is not the only attraction on Tenerife. It’s home to 70 beaches, the majority of which have been awarded blue flag status. It’s an island of two halves; the lush north of the island complements the sunny and dry south, shielded from the wind and humidity by a mountainous landscape which divides the island into two different worlds. At the heart of the mountainous range is the Tiede National Park which features the spectacular Mount Tiede. Vast volcanic craters greet the visitor and imprints of lava flows remain etched on the craggy landscape. A cable car will take you up to the very top of the volcano – although some hearty souls do attempt to walk. Whale and dolpin watching is also popular. The waters around the island are home to about 400 short-finned pilot whales and numerous bottlenose dolphins and tours are available all year round. Tenerife also has a well-deserved reputation as a culinary destination with its excellent food being complemented by some award-winning local wines which owe their success both to great imagination and the subtropical climate. In addition to Hotel Las Madrigueras, visitors might want to consider the plush five-star Iberostar Anthelia Hotel or the comfortable and friendly Hotel Suite Villa Maria – also five-star. The former offers discounted packages to stay and play at Golf Las Americas and Costa Adeje while the latter offers three nights bed and breakfast from 197 euros per person until the end of September including two green fees, unlimited golf at Costa Adeje, buggies, lunchtime buffet at the course and taxes.

‘Any track where you have to avoid 22 lakes and 25,000 palm trees is tough and Abama certainly is a great test of golfing skills’ challenge for anyone but the fittest. Any track where you have to avoid 22 lakes and 25,000 palm trees is tough and Abama certainly is a great test of golfing skills, or lack of them. Dave Thomas has used all his imagination to create some awe-inspiring holes hewn out of rocks and canyons which are a major feature of the landscape. The hotel offers a fine retreat from the rigours of the golf course with outstanding food, service and facilities. A golfing holiday to Tenerife would be incomplete without a visit to Golf Costa Adeje, arguably the flagship and most famous

PROMOTIONSHEFFIELD HIGH SCHOOL

Focus on the individual... says Anne Jones of Sheffield High Infant and Junior School. nne Jones first joined the school 20 years ago and has been Head Teacher of the Infant and Junior School, which teaches girls aged four to 11, for 13 years. Having first experienced Sheffield High School as a mum, she knows exactly what discerning parents expect. “We offer small class sizes, individual attention for each pupil, specialist music and sports teachers, an excellent partnership with parents, supervised care from 7.30am-6.15pm, close links with the senior school and a tailor-made curriculum. “Our current focus is to continue to promote thinking skills, resilience and independence of thought, and encourage our girls to become self-motivated learners. We have a strong emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects

A

and encourage girls to enjoy these at a high level. “One of the most rewarding aspects of the role is leading initiatives, working with staff to implement these, and then seeing the impact that they have on pupils’ learning. I really enjoy spending time talking with the girls and, of course, teaching. As we also have a Senior School for girls up to the age of 18, I love seeing how the girls progress after they leave the Juniors at 11 and the confident young women that they grow to become. “I don’t really have a ‘typical’ day; I enjoy spending time meeting current and prospective pupils and parents, meeting staff and observing lessons, doing development planning and tracking pupil progress. I also teach for an hour each day. “In addition, there are meetings both within school and the local community and, as we are part of a group of schools (Girls’ Day School Trust), I travel to our head office in London and also to other schools within the group to share best practice and work together on joint initiatives. Our busy extracurricular programme means that there are frequent sports matches and concerts to support. To arrange a visit, telephone the admissions secretary on 0114 358 7602 or see www.sheffieldhighschool.org.uk 10 Rutland Park, Sheffield, S10 2PE Tel: 0114 266 1435 www.sheffieldhighschool.org.uk

PROMOTIONASHDELL SCHOOL & SNOWDROPS

Head teacher Anne Camm always wanted to work in education and at Ashdell School she found her perfect job. rom the moment Anne Camm lined up her dolls as a child and pretended to be at the helm of a classroom, she knew she wanted to be a teacher. The pinnacle of the illustrious career that followed these childhood imaginings came seven years ago when she was appointed Headteacher of Ashdell School. It’s the little everyday things that make Anne look forward to work each morning. From the girls’ first small steps in Snowdrops – the school’s Pre-School division – to their graduation at the age of 11, the journey they take is a privilege to both witness and contribute to. When the girls leave, Anne and her staff don’t just say goodbye to them, but to the whole family. “It may sound strange,” she admits, “but one of the greatest achievements is knowing the parents are sad when their daughter leaves Ashdell – it means we’ve done our job well.”

F

By building partnerships with parents and operating an open-door policy, the girls, their families and the staff are invited to discuss ideas and concerns as they arise. “I encourage communication with parents because, between the ages of three and 11, the girls are in my care and I take that responsibility very seriously. I have a duty to the pupils and their parents to provide the very best education and I do everything I can to ensure that we deliver an exceptional learning experience that the girls will treasure for the rest of their lives.” As a family-orientated school, Ashdell encourages pupils to value, respect and look after their school family as they do their own. It is this family feel that cements their reputation as a caring, friendly and welcoming school. A huge variety of activities and learning opportunities, along with the ‘have a go’ attitude, ensures the girls leave Ashdell well equipped to make

informed decisions on the path they will take next. “We pride ourselves on keeping many of our traditions alive but we also take pride in the fact that we are embracing the 21st century. As such, my ambition is to keep the school moving forward, embracing modern technology and maintaining the many traditions Ashdell is recognised for.” Ashdell School & Snowdrops 266 Fulwood Road, Sheffield S10 3BL Tel: 0114 266 3835 www.ashdellprep.co.uk

PROMOTIONWESTBOURNE SCHOOL

Excellence is bringing growing demand, says John Hicks of Westbourne School and Pre-School, Sheffield. ohn Hicks has been at Westbourne School in Broomhill for 11 years, during which time he has seen many advancements. Originally a boys’ Preparatory School that moved to co-education, girls now make up 45 per cent of Westbourne’s population, creating a thriving co-ed environment where girls and boys function effectively together – as is the natural order of things. “I have seen the school go from strength to strength, particularly in academic achievement, and I am proud that the school is now regarded as one of the best in the region. “As more and more people have discovered the excellent all-round education that today’s Westbourne offers, demand for places has increased dramatically. I am delighted to have been closely involved in the acquisition of three new buildings and a brand new

J

Pre-School to accommodate the growing Westbourne population, which ranges from three to 16 years of age. “I was recently asked what a typical working day encompasses and what I enjoy about it… well, for me it’s the people at Westbourne and the interaction with them that I particularly enjoy - Meeting and greeting pupils, attending and hosting assemblies, briefing staff, meeting prospective parents, teaching Mathematics and chairing meetings. My day also involves undertaking administration tasks, working on strategic planning and moving forward with school development projects.” “The most enjoyable parts of my job are seeing the children develop in confidence, sharing in their successes both personally and academically, and being able to lead the school forward and achieve our aims. “We are currently very close to a

two form entry throughout the whole of Junior School and I look forward to seeing this to fruition. My ambition for the school is to be full in all year groups and to continue the enhancement of pupil achievement in academia, sport, drama and music.” Westbourne School and Pre-School 60 Westbourne Road, Broomhill, Sheffield, S10 2QT Tel: 0114 266 0374 www.westbourneschool.co.uk
