Life of Pi

The Life of Pi returns to Sheffield after brilliant success in The West End and Broadway. First performed at the Crucible theatre in 2019, the play has won five Laurence Olivier awards, including ‘Best Play’.

Based on the Yann Martel novel, the story follows a young Indian boy lost at sea with wild animals as crew mates. Prepare for a visual feast with world-class puppetry bringing the orangutan, zebra, hyena and tiger to life.

Grammy-winning blues singer and songwriter Eric Bibb is touring with his highly anticipated album Ridin’. Every show on the UK tour will feature a full live band and unmissable talent. Bibb’s music reflects his thoughts on current world events and his own lived experiences, whilst remaining entertaining, uplifting, inspirational and relevant.

Chatfield, an up-and-coming indie band, is returning to The Leadmill after their previous sell-out show. The quintet will bring original music and well-loved anthems to the Steel Stage this August.

Dutch Flower Paintings: Exploring Art in Bloom

Until 17 September / Millennium Gallery www.sheffieldmuseums.org.uk Teeming with beauty, colour and life, Dutch flower painting enraptured an age. These popular studies blossomed throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, combining meticulous technique and rich detail with abundant, often fantastical compositions.

This exhibition brings ten of the finest examples of Dutch flower painting from the National Gallery to Sheffield for the first time. Works by Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder, Rachel Ruysch and Jan van Huysum go on display alongside examples from Sheffield’s own collection. Showcasing the developments in the style, these paintings span flat botanical observations through to dazzling, vibrant compositions.

Everyone’s favourite funny man, Peter Kay, is embarking on his fourth UK tour, called ‘Better Late Than Never. Kay said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now. And with the cost of living at an all-time high, ticket prices are starting from £35. The same price they were on my previous tour in 2010.”
