54 Bits & Pieces

From family legacies to winning partnerships, these long-standing businesses are an example to everyone

ello and welcome to our June issue of Sixer. In the year that Her Majesty The Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne, we focus on some local businesses that have stood the test of time. From family legacies to those carving their own path, we look at their secrets to success as well as their future plans. Walkley Festival also returns this month after an enforced two-year hiatus - we look at what’s in store for the two-week community celebration. We also dine at a local favourite and have your usual mix of property, fashion and motoring. See you next month.

BUSINESS

Standing the test of time The Famous Sheffield Shop Ltd

Hallamshire Physio

In 2023 The Famous Sheffield Shop celebrates 40 years of trading from the same location on Ecclesall Road. The business has faced many challenges over the years. Opened during a recession by founder Don Alexander, a Global banking crisis under the ownership of Paul Iseard and now third owner Jane Summers taking charge in 2020 at the onset of a pandemic. Despite the threats the shop continues to go from strength to strength. With local support and a worldwide online reach selling Sheffield made gifts and products that were the foundation of Sheffield’s cutlery and metal working reputation across the world. As a specialist independent retailer nothing can be more rewarding than welcoming our customers back to the shop.Where Sheffielders and visitors can browse the diverse range of products Sheffield has to offer. With knowledgeable help at hand from Jane and Craig, Jordan, Joanne and Sam for the full Sheffield Shop experience. No doubt there will be more challenges ahead. However with a new generation of cutlers, silversmiths and metal workers the future looks bright. As it has proved successful for the last 40 years our aim is to continue to promote and sell the very best of Sheffield craftsmanship. Call 0114 268 5701 or visit www.sheffield-made.com to find out more.

Hancock & Read Hancock & Read have provided a prestigious design and manufacturing service exceeding over 35 years now and are renowned around Dore, Whirlow, Hope Valley and other areas of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire for their quality commercial and residential furniture. “Our policy for delivering customer satisfaction is clearly appreciated as the majority of our projects arise from repeat custom or recommendation,” said Mark Read. “Today, word of mouth has pushed us further afield allowing us to work in areas such as Manchester, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.” Speaking of the stresses related to running your own business, Mark added: “We have weathered a few recessions over the past 37 years, changing with the times, from a commercial bar fitting firm to a high-end residential furniture manufacturer. Recently the Covid pandemic has been an entirely new challenge which we have endured and are pleased to be back to work, busier then ever and loving what we do.” The company, based on Rugby Street, pride themselves on their long-standing relationships with their customers. The emphasis at the clinic is on a movement and exercise based approach and problem solving to get people active and returning to function. “The secret to our success has been to recruit experienced staff with an excellent knowledge base who not only make you feel at ease but who will also get to the root cause of your problems,” said Karen Hodgson. “We have also based our practise on recommendations from clients and other health professionals and this has developed our growing reputation within physiotherapy in Sheffield.” Whilst Covid affected their services, Hallamshire Physiotherapy explored other ways to deliver rehabilitation - this included online consultations and exercise groups as well as discussion forums. “Even when we were able to open our doors again we have still continued to use these alternative methods which has allowed us to reach people on a national level,” added Karen. Future plans are to develop their exercise groups and rehabilitation. Call 0114 267 1223 or visit www.hallamshirephysiotherapy.com to find out more.

Hearth and Home Ltd John Gosling established Hearth and Home over 40 years ago. It remains a family-owned and operated fireplace showroom selling woodburning, gas and electric stoves, gas and electric fires, and wood stone and marble surrounds. John works in the showroom whilst his wife, Becky, works in the office. His father and brother run the fitting company which carries out most of their installations. He puts the secret of their success down to their reputation. “We generate most of our work through recommendation from our customers which is amazing for us and means that hopefully we will carry on for years to come,” he said. Like for many businesses, Covid was a difficult time for Hearth and Home but John feels they have weathered the storm. “It’s cliché to say but every customer that purchases from us is helping support a local business and that means everything to me,” he added. “My dad is wanting to go part-time so we will be expanding the fitting team in the no to distant future. There’s no plans for the showroom as we extended the showroom just before the pandemic so we’ll just carry on as we have been.” Visit their showroom on London Road, call 0114 255 9688, or visit www.fireplaces-in-sheffield.co.uk to find out more.

Lamproom Theatre The building which now houses the Lamproom Theatre can be traced back to 1794, when it opened as a Methodist chapel until it was purchased by the National Association of Boys’ Clubs in 1948. In 1998, the building was purchased for use as a theatre by Barnsley Theatre Trust. Under the leadership and enthusiasm of John Kelly and over 100 patrons, subscribers and volunteers, ‘The People’s Theatre’ launched in 1999 as The Lamproom Theatre. A grade II listed building, with continued support, the Lamproom will stand prominent in Barnsley’s cultural future for years to come. The Lamproom is the beating creative heart of Barnsley and it’s thanks to the community and army of volunteers that now, two decades on, the beloved theatre goes from strength to strength. The pandemic left them in a fragile state but the theatre believes that the appetite for live entertainment is now greater than ever. The Lamproom has a packed and diverse programme – with bookings through until 2024. Call 01226 200075 or visit their Facebook page to find out more.

Hillsborough Curtains Hillsborough Curtains might be a relatively new business but owner Debra Allen brings a wealth of experience after training at John Lewis and working at Park View Soft Furnishings for 22 years. It was the retirement of her partner at Park View that prompted Debra to set up her own business working from home. She now makes all aspects of made-to-measure soft furnishings. “The most rewarding thing is running a small business and keep it going through Covid,” she said. “I’ve been delighted to see some of my old customers return to my new business.” To find out more, call 07799 453092 or email info@sheffieldcurtains.co.uk

George Marshall PT Ltd With its origins dating back to 1958, George Marshall is a family-owned business supplying industrial tools and accessories to largely engineering and heavy steel industries. They have since expanded into construction, automotive, electrical, plumbing, gas, water and demolition. “The success of George Marshall comes down to our reliability and experience,” said Leanne Marshall. “We are a third generation family-run business and pride ourselves on great customer service, product knowledge and price.” After over 60 years in business they have weathered a fair amount of storms, from recessions and the disappearance of much of the steel and foundries industries to, more recently, Covid. But the family still plenty of rewarding moments. “We think our most rewarding moments are the relationships with our customers,” added Leanne. “If we can help one of our customers, we tend to go above and beyond for them.” Call 0114 276 7072 or visit www.geomarshall.co.uk to find out more.

World of James Herriot This visitor attraction, based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, covers the life and books of the 20th century veterinary surgeon and author James Herriot within the Yorkshire Dales. Originally established in 1999, the attraction was council run until 2012 when Ian Ashton took over and turned it into a private company - it's now in it tenth year of business. "I'd put our success down to strong marketing and a small team of knowledgable and hard-working tourism staff who are always willing to go the extra mile," said Ian. "I think the success we have built up over the last ten years with our multi-award winning business, culminating in the award from Trip Advisor being in the top ten per cent of best visitor attractions worldwide this year, has been the most rewarding." Due to the great success of the re-make of All Creatures Great and Small, both in the UK and worldwide with particular interest in America where it had 10 million TV viewers on the first night of launch at the start of 2022, gives a great opportunity for the attraction to expand its overseas markets. Swift Gas

South Yorkshire Mobility

Swift Gas owner Neale Jackson has been in the plumbing, heating and gas industry for over 30 years. He made Sheffield his home nine years ago and has built up a successful business by offering local people a quality, honest service based on his years of experience. “I believe in having a good relationship with my customer where a bond of trust is built, and a lot of my good friends today started out as customers,” he says. The vast majority of Neale’s clients are in the north and west of Sheffield, in areas like Stocksbridge, Stannington, Deepcar, Penistone, Dore and Totley... and all points in between. “You’re more efficient when all your jobs are close together so I’d rather condense my work into one area,” he says. “I’ll never book more than four jobs into any single day and I always leave gaps in between, because that gives me the leeway to tackle any problems that occur and also to react immediately to an emergency call-out.” Call Neale on 07733 605734.

Established in 2018, South Yorkshire Mobility’s main focus has always been to give the best customer service possible. Although they stock many mobility products, including adjustable beds and a wide range of rise and recline chairs, they have concentrated efforts towards new and preloved mobility scooters. “Our main success though has been achieved from offering the largest range of lightweight folding and auto-folding mobility scooters in South Yorkshire,” said Michael Davies. Speaking of the Rawmarsh business’s ups and downs he added: “I don’t think I need to mention the most horrible time we all went through, but the colder months are always challenging for us because our main business comes from mobility scooter sales which tend to drop off when winter arrives. Adjustable beds and rise and recline chairs become more popular for our customers when it becomes too cold to venture out. “It’s lovely when someone visits us from a recommendation or we get a great review but the most rewarding is when a customer visits us numerous times for different things.” To find out more, call 01709 803311 or visit www.southyorkshiremobility.co.uk

Simpkins Sweets

Towsure

There’s something cosy and comforting about those charming tins of boiled fruit sweets that have played an essential part in so many of our adventures, from family day trips to the coast to long-haul flights to the other side of the world. Simpkins Travel Sweets were first produced in 1921 and are still in demand all over the world, with loyal customers in 40 countries as far afield as Colombia, Japan, Australia, the USA and Malaysia. From its base in Hillsborough, Simpkins has remained strictly under family control and now a third generation is steering the ship with Adrian Simpkin and his sister Karen, grandchildren of Leslie, at the helm as joint managing directors. Ask Adrian about the secret of his family business’ longstanding success and he insists it’s all about the product. “It is solely that we make a bloody good sweet,” he says. “A lot of boiled sweets make your mouth sore but we use only the finest ingredients and the taste and texture is spot on.” No doubt satisfied customers across the globe would agree, but the Simpkins success story is also about innovation and a steady stream of smart business ideas that set them apart from their competitors. Simpkins are producing a special mixed fruit tin of travel sweets for the Jubilee. Find out how you can get some by calling 0114 234 8736 or visit alsimpkin.com

Towsure was founded in 1967 by Stuart Hogg who a few years earlier had served an apprenticeship within the steel industry in Sheffield. After working in various roles in both manufacturing and sales, Stuart spotted an opportunity with the emerging popularity of caravanning so decided to set up on his own in the towbar industry. By the early 1970s, the number of people going caravanning was booming. Everyone who had a caravan needed a car to pull it, and that car needed a towbar. At first, he started to fit towbars from his family home in Wisewood but due to the increasing demand, and the neighbours being annoyed with a growing number of parked cars on the street, he bought a small premises in Holme Lane, Hillsborough to operate the new business from. These new premises provided not only a workshop and fitting bay but also a small store that could be open to the public to sell from. To complement the towbar fittings, trailers parts were also sold along with small camping trailers. Towsure still remains a family run business, operating for over 50 years and was pleased to welcome Jessica (Andrew’s daughter) the third generation into the business during 2018 taking it further in to the digital age of social media and beyond and retaining the company’s core family values. Moonlight Textiles

The Woman In Me Body Positive Lingerie Boutique

Owner Paul Smith puts the success of Moonlight Textiles down to having a good strong, loyal team pulling together for the benefit of the company and their customers. Established in 1985, Moonlight is a family-run business manufacturing, retailing and installing predominantly curtains, blinds, tracks, and poles to both the home and the work place. The current showroom has been located on Abbeydale Road for 30 years employing 15 people including in-house seamstresses and fitters, retail showroom and commercial market personnel, home advisors plus office administrators and accounts. “Being in the trade for so long and retaining most of our team over the years has built a very strong, knowledgeable base which places us in the perfect position to expertly advise and guide our customers from the initial selection process through to the completion of an order,” said Paul. “We’ve survived the recessions and pandemics and come away from it in a strong trading position.” Long-serving showroom manager, Joan, retired last year and she left very large shoes to fill! Step forward Paul’s eldest son George who was ready for a new challenge and joined the team in January. George’s background in retail coupled with his natural, strong customer focus, makes him the perfect addition to the showroom floor. “So, a third generation ‘Smith’ at Moonlight, onwards and upwards I say!” said Paul. Platinum makes perfect sense IN THIS JUBILEE YEAR, PA JEWELLERY LOOK AT THE PRECIOUS METAL FIT FOR SUCH A CELEBRATION. his year we are celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Seventy years on the throne is an extraordinary achievement and her reign has been as enduring as the precious metal that gives this special celebration its name. Platinum makes perfect sense as the material to celebrate 70 years (whether on the throne or of marriage in a small but increasing number of cases!). The metal is durable, pure and supremely precious. Harder wearing than other precious metals like gold or silver, it ideally represents the long commitment and achievement involved. Its rarity and status as the most precious metal increase its suitability for the role. Like the other precious metals, platinum is alloyed for use in jewellery, although the resulting material is generally purer than either gold or silver tend to be; the usual standard for platinum being 950 which is 95 per cent pure. It is regarded as a hypoallergenic choice suitable for those with more sensitive skin and it doesn’t tarnish. Platinum will still scratch and dull a little over time but can be restored to its bright lustre with a polish. Its strength makes it ideal for delicate gemstone settings and jewellery that will be worn

on a regular basis. It is often used for the settings even on yellow gold diamond set pieces as it provides additional durability. In the past platinum was more expensive than the other precious metals, but in the last couple of years there has been a shift in this regard and its traditional alternative, 18ct white gold, is now around the same price or sometimes even more than platinum! Gold is actually far more expensive than platinum, but platinum is both denser than gold and also generally used in a purer alloy. This means that the same ring will be heavier in platinum than it would be in gold and currently this Platinum Jubilee collection blue crystal and cubic zirconia pendant and earrings set £195

makes enough difference to even the prices up. It is therefore now the default choice for those wishing to opt for a white metal in an engagement or wedding ring. To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee a special assay mark has been created which may be applied to precious metal items that are hallmarked during 2022, providing a lasting connection to this special year. We are pleased to offer the beautiful blue crystal and cubic zirconia pendant and earrings set (pictured) in recycled sterling silver and plated with platinum. This limited edition set is priced at £195 and is the perfect gift to mark such a special occasion and reflects the classic sapphire and diamond colours associated with the Royal Family. It is supplied in a special commemorative box and features the special Jubilee assay mark. Availability of this set is extremely limited so please check with us before making a special visit. WALKLEY

Community carnival WALKLEY FESTIVAL IS A TWO-WEEK CELEBRATION OF FOOD, DRINK, VARIETY, GARDENING, MARKETS AND MORE. Around a mile-and-a-half from the city centre, Walkley is one of Sheffield’s most popular suburbs, particularly amongst professionals and families due its convenient location, great views and countryside to the north and all of the fantastic amenities that the suburb has to offer. At the heart of Walkley is a strong sense of community and nowhere is this more evident than at the Walkley Festival, which this year takes place between 24 June and 10 July. After starting in 2002, it’s the first festival for three years – 2020 and 2021’s events were curtailed by Covid –and Walkley Community Forum and Zest Community have come together to make sure it’s one to remember – and lay the foundations for the success of future events. The festival kicks off at 8pm on Friday 24 June with ‘Friday Night at the Walkley Palladium’, an evening of local variety presented by Maynard and Zucchini. Talented residents are encouraged to take to the stage at Ruskin Hall on Fir Street; there’ll also be a DJ, bingo and bar. Tickets are priced £7.50 in advance or £10 on the door. Maynard and Zucchini are still looking for talent - email

WALKLEY

alkley’s strong community spirit has extended into its businesses and many have thrived in the area since opening. If you have a penchant for retro or vintage clothing Miss Samantha’s Vintage, at 358 South Road, has a cult following and for fine jewellery, look no further than PA Jewellery on Commonside. If antiques or more your thing, Four Rooms Antiques (192-194 Howard Road) is a treasure trove of carefully curated items. The Walkley area is well catered for when it comes to fine restaurants and Vito’s, 284 South Road, has been a mainstay in the area since it opened over 30 years ago. Unlike the majority of restaurants in the city, Vito’s is genuinely Italian – owned and run. And it’s founded on a principle that will never change: “Above all, we continue to insist that the food we serve is authentic regional cooking, just like you’d find in Italy,” said owner Vito Ciaraolo. Newcomer Colosseo has been a welcome addition to Commonside whilst at the opposite end of South Road is The Walkley Cottage, a firm pub favourite. Zest is an award-winning community enterprise delivering high quality and responsive services to local people - and has been an integral part of this year’s Walkey Festival. Walkley Library stands at the junction of Walkley Road and South Road in one of the busiest parts of the area. It is one of 27 suburban branch libraries within the city.

W

Saturday 2 July sees Market Day come to Walkley and will be held on Millennium Green from 10am-4pm.You’ll find stalls selling jewellery, soap, balms, gifts, art, cards, cakes and more. This magnificent green space is also celebrating its 30th birthday to mark the occasion they will be hosting a tea party with refreshments, including posh Pimm’s, children’s activities and a bouncy castle too. Showing off Walkley’s many green spaces on Sunday 3 July is the Green Space Trail and Yard Sale Trail whilst on Saturday 9 July there will be school fairs at both Walkley Primary School and Bole Hill Nursery. The Ruskin Park Festival Finale takes place on Sunday 10 July (11am-4pm) and will bring together groups from Walkley and Upperthorpe for a day filled with live music and celebration. There will be a BBQ (a vegan one too) from Beeches of Walkley, special cocktails, a bar selling ‘Walkley Brew 22’, a climbing wall, bouncy castles for all ages, petting zoo, healing zone, history, craft area, games, circus skills and lots more. Throughout the two-week festival will be lots of other events and activities happening, for example yoga and pilates taster sessions, cheese tasting, wine tasting, music nights, tea parties, open studios, well dressing, bread making, poetry, garden parties, story times… the list goes on. There will also be a Walkley Pub Crawl - drinkers will be able to collect a card which can then be stamped in participating venues (one stamp per drink, per pub). All completed cards will be entered into a prize draw which includes, for example, a family meal for four or a crate of Loxley Beers. Pubs taking part in the crawl include Walkley Cottage, Walkley Beer Co, The Raven Inn, The Florist, Blind Monkey, Blake Hotel and Rose House. The winners will be announced at the the Ruskin Park Festival Finale. Local primary schools have also been invited to design a logo for the festival; there will be winners from each school then the overall winner will be gifted £100 art supplies for their school.

EATING OUT

Familiar favourite CHRIS WILSON RETURNS TO THE WORTLEY ARMS AND FINDS A FEW THINGS HAVE CHANGED. ’ve always had a soft spot for the Wortley Arms, so it was good to discover on my first visit since the Covid outbreak of two years ago that this former coach house dating back to 1753 didn’t just survive the lockdown, it has emerged better than ever. Owner Jamie Ellis assembled a new kitchen team shortly before the enforced shutdown of 2020 and he’s been able to keep them together. Also behind the scenes there have been a few subtle changes such as new carpets, ensuring there’s nothing shabby about this reassuringly familiar venue that doubles as a cosy pub for locals and a restaurant with a touch of class, attracting diners from all over Sheffield as well as a healthy passing trade from nearby hotels. If you’ve not visited for a while now’s a great time to reacquaint yourself, as there’s a new menu that reads well and demands to be given a thorough work-out. If you take comfort in familiarity the old pub food classics such as fish and chips, steaks and burgers are still there, looking as generously portioned and delicious as ever. There’s also still a good selection of very well kept local ales and as I sipped my pint of Barnsley Bitter (£3.80) my eye was drawn to some intriguing new dishes. For starters it had to be slow-roasted

I

belly pork (£8), a delicate delight with a decidedly punchy orange and poppy seed dressing to cut through the richness of the meat. As for the all-important crackling, it had been transformed into Andalusian-style chichaccores. Just imagine the very best pork scratchings ever, light as air yet supremely crunchy and generously dusted with chilli. They complemented the pork perfectly and would also make for a great bar snack in their own right. Across the table my former colleague and old friend Heather made short work of a generous slab of pressed duck rillettes (£8.50). Accompanied by crunchy, aromatic roasted hazelnuts, crisp beetroot and sweet apple puree, this was a great combination of taste and textures. We continued our tour of the menu’s new additions and my roast rump of lamb (£22) served with pressed Lyonnaise potato, carrots, charred leek and peas in a rosemary red wine sauce was a real treat with the lamb, served pink and full of flavour, just perfect. Heather chose the pan roasted stone bass (£22). Served with orzo, short-cut pasta which had been flavoured with tomato and basil, globe artichoke and roast pepper, it was another thoughtful and tasty plate of contrasting ingredients that came together beautifully.

With sides of twice-cooked chips (£3) and broccoli with capers and chilli (£3.50) to share, it was a meal to linger over, but we weren’t done yet. The dessert menu has also been given an overhaul and we decided to share two of the new arrivals. Lemon curd tart, a very sharp filling in the crispest of pastry cases, was balanced by sweet raspberry ripple ice cream with raspberry meringue (£7).We both loved the contrast but if you prefer your puds to be all sweetness the hazelnut parfait arctic roll, with macerated strawberries and mint syrup (£7) is definitely the way to go. There’s a very good wine list too, and we thoroughly enjoyed large glasses of Southern Lights Sauvignon Blanc (£8) and Man Meets Mountain Malbec (£7.50). PD Warrior Live Brave with Parkinsons

Hallamshire Physiotherapy have introduced online PD Warrior sessions

FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THIS UNIQUE PROGRAMME, DELIVERED BY HALLAMSHIRE PHYSIOTHERAPY. D Warrior is a unique programme of exercise to help people newly diagnosed with Parkinsons. It originated in Australia and was developed to help people to slow down the progression of their disease. Parkinsons is a progressive neurological disorder that affects approximately 145,000 people in the UK.The main symptoms are tremor, rigidity, and slowing movements. Symptoms and the speed at which the condition develops will differ from person to person and many people will had had symptoms for years before diagnosis. There is currently no cure for Parkinsons and treatment is through medication, physiotherapy and activity. The PD Warrior programme is an advanced exercise programme that incorporates both physical and cognitive activity for people in the early stages of Parkinsons. At its heart, PD Warrior is an intensive circuit programme designed to fight the symptoms. PD Warrior is supported by a growing body of evidence that shows that intensive, high effort, complex exercise has the potential to slow the progression of your symptoms by using neuroplasticity - your brain’s natural ability to re-organise its pathways and connections, much like rewiring. By rewiring the brain you can help people to move more freely with less conscious thought. The key to achieving this rewiring includes being consistent and using the right exercise prescription. It is important not to wait for symptoms to impact upon daily life before taking up the correct type of exercise. So why is PD Warrior different from other forms of exercise? PD Warrior uses seven core principles: • High Effort - working hard • Power - big powerful movements

P

• Frequency - exercise must be done daily • Specificity - specific to the individual • Meaning - relate to activities you find challenging • Complexity - dual and multi tasking • Fun!

What happens at Hallamshire Physiotherapy? An assessment with one of our PD Warrior instructors is carried out to ensure suitability for the programme and also to obtain baseline measures on areas such as gait, balance and motor skills. Following the assessment one to one sessions are required to educate and coach people in the exercises and the principles. Then comes the ten-week challenge. This is a circuit class once per week held at our exercise facility at 863 Ecclesall Road or in our Chesterfield base. At the completion of the ten-week challenge there will be a review assessment to compare the baseline measures. The specific exercise plan needs

adjusting just like medication to ensure it is giving people the best opportunities. Over the pandemic we transferred our PD Warrior sessions to online delivery and we still run on line classes every week even though in person groups have returned. This enables people who are not able to attend in person or who do not live locally to enjoy and benefit from the PD Warrior sessions. If you have been newly diagnosed please don’t delay and begin Living Brave with Parkinsons. If you want to find out more information please contact Karen Hodgson at Hallamshire Physiotherapy 0114 267 1223 or email at info@hallamshirephysiotherapy.com

BITS & PIECES

Deborah’s Diamond Ball raises more than £20,000 for St Luke’s A charity ball held in memory of well-known Sheffield businesswoman Deborah Holmes has raised more than £20,000 for St Luke’s Hospice. Deborah’s Diamond Ball marked what would have been Deborah’s 60th birthday. The event was organised by her daughter Rebecca Dransfield and sister Amanda Holmes with more than 200 guests attending a fabulous evening in the beautiful setting of the city’s Cutlers Hall. Guests enjoyed music by X Factor’s Jack and Joel and the English Gentlemen as well as a charity auction and raffle – and the evening raised a total of £20,253 for St Luke’s. Deborah was the founder and owner Sandersons Department Store at Fox Valley in her hometown of Stocksbridge. She died in January 2019 at St Luke’s and in her last weeks was supported by the St Luke’s Community Team. The store now has sister stores in Stroud and Morpeth and Rebecca is the Senior Buyer. Deborah’s family have undertaken a number of fundraising endeavours for the charity in the last three years. Her husband Mark raises funds for the hospice through his company’s annual charity bike ride and friends and family have also taken part in the Sheffield half marathon and other events.

It’s a victory for the Sheffield Legends… and for Roundabout! It was a 4-0 win for the Sheffield Legends when they took on Hallam FC Veterans in the Harry Brearley Charity Cup…but the real winner was South Yorkshire youth homelessness charity, Roundabout. The charity football match, hosted by property regeneration experts, Scarborough Group International (SGI) at its brandnew Community Stadium at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, saw the team of former Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday players take on the Hallam FC veterans. More than 300 spectators saw footballing greats including Brian Deane, Tony Agana, Curtis Woodhouse, Greg Fee, Richard Cresswell, Lawrie Madden, Carl Bradshaw, Danny Webber, Mark Todd and Paul Devlin take to the pitch for 90 minutes under Head Coach, Tony Currie, referee, Uriah Rennie and match commentator, Gary Sinclair, in the first official event at the new Community Stadium. And by the time the final whistle was blown, the event, which was sponsored by Scarborough-based athleisure brand, Siksilk had raised more than £2,000 for Roundabout.

Tramlines Trust is live ‘Tramlines in the Community’ is a new concept for 2022. This project covers a wide range of activities from Tramlines including work in the community, efforts to improve inclusion and sustainability and a commitment to support the local music scene. The Tramlines Trust was announced in February and is now ready to accept applications for funding. Projects, organisations and charities are invited to apply for grants of up to £500 or in some circumstances, £1000. Projects to be funded must be based in South Yorkshire, and successful grants will align with the Trust’s key pillars. The Trust does not require that you are a registered or existing charity or organisation. Individuals and new groups are welcome to apply, however the project must advance purely charitable purposes. The deadline for applications is Friday 1 July 2022. MOTORING

A FAMOUS BRITISH COMPANY HAVE TAKEN ELECTRIC VEHICLES TO A NEW LEVEL, WRITES RICHARD ABBEY.

Bold and exotic The ongoing transformation of Lotus to a truly global performance car brand has reached its most significant milestone yet. The all-new and all-electric Lotus Eletre is a striking and progressive Hyper-SUV – the first of a new breed of pure electric SUVs. It is the first of three new Lotus lifestyle EVs in next four years, with design language inspired by world’s first British EV hypercar, the award-winning Lotus Evija. The HST was first introduced on the high-performance Range Rover Sport and Evoque models and its dynamic character is now available on the Velar for the first time. A distinctive combination of design enhancements and chassis features bring a new dimension of sporting luxury to the line-up, all based around the R-Dynamic design. Its stealthy character is supported by a Black contrast roof and full exterior Black Pack. Available in the full colour palette and exclusively in new Arroios Grey, privacy glass and unique Gloss Black 21-inch 5 split-spoke alloy wheels complete the exterior. The dynamic theme continues inside, with Black Suedecloth headlining and steering wheel. In keeping with its dynamic personality, the HST is available with a choice of powerful six-cylinder Ingenium engines. Customers can choose from the P400 (400PS) and D300 (300PS) Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) petrol and diesel powertrains for effortless performance and refinement.
