Bakewell

Idyllically situated on the banks of the river Wye, the biggest town in the Peak District National Park's mellow stone buildings, medieval five-arched stone bridge and quaint courtyards are a magnet for painters, photographers and sightseers alike.

Legend has it that the town's famous Bakewell Pudding was created by mistake by a local cook in the mid-19th century. Today her delectable ‘jam tart that went wrong’ can be sampled at various bakeries and cafés and posted virtually anywhere in the world!

Bargains galore are on offer every Monday at the bustling outdoor market, and for an extra buzz, head for the livestock market to experience the action in the theatre-like auction ring.

Cherry-pick choice local produce at one of Britain’s best Farmers' Markets or browse in specialist shops selling everything from high fashion and outdoor clothing to handmade

chocolates and rare whiskies. Savour a light snack, lunch or dinner at a host of cafés, restaurants, pubs and tea rooms and take a brewery tour and sample world-beating craft beers at Thornbridge Brewery.

Baslow

On the northern fringe of Chatsworth Park, the attractive village of Baslow is close to some of the Dark Peak's most dramatic scenery.

Set beneath a gritstone edge of the same name, it lies on the banks of the river Derwent and is home to several hotels, pubs, cafés, restaurants and a Michelin-starred restaurant, Fischers Baslow Hall, as well as a clutch of exclusive shops.

Its conveniently-located campsite is also popular with visitors keen to explore nearby Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, the Monsal Trail and much further afield.

With a pretty village green, Goose

Green, at its heart, bright with daffodils each spring, Baslow consists of five ‘Ends’: Far, Nether, Bridge, West and Over Ends.

Look out for a distinctively small toll house on the historic 17th century bridge at Bridge End, and the nearby church of St Anne. The unusual clock on the church has the inscription VICTORIA 1897 instead of the usual numbers, and inside you can spot the whip once used to clear the church of dogs!

Peak Village Rowsley

Nestled in the small, picturesque village of Rowsley, Peak Village is just a stone’s throw from Chatsworth House and Gardens. The atmosphere is relaxed and a Derbyshire friendly welcome awaits from staff and fellow shoppers.

In this accessible environment, you can enjoy browsing a range of national and independent stores offering great choice in fashion, accessories, homeware, gifts, outdoor clothing and equipment.

David Mellor Visitor Centre

Located in Hathersage, comprising a museum, cutlery factory, shop and café. The shop stocks the full range of David Mellor cutlery and kitchen knives (most made on-site) alongside a collection of the finest British crafts: handmade pottery, woodware, glass, English baskets, horn and marble, jams and honeys plus a range of professional kitchen equipment. The museum features iconic British traffic lights and historical cutlery from Mellor’s college projects to silverware for prestigious clients. The Riverside Kitchen is open daily for breakfast, lunch and afternoon coffee and cake. Tours of the cutlery factory run each Sunday for most of the year.

Monsal Trail

The Monsal Trail is a traffic free route for walkers, cyclists, horse riders and wheelchair users through some of the Peak District's most spectacular limestone dales. The trail runs along the former Midland Railway line for 8.5 miles between Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale and Coombs Road, at Bakewell. The public can experience the full length of the former railway route at their own pace and see breath-taking views at places like Water-cum-Jolly Dale that have remained hidden since the railway closed in 1968.

Peak Ales Brewery

Peak Ales Brewery, just a stone’s throw from Chatsworth, produces traditional

real ales in the stunning landscape of the Peak District. It is run by Robert and Debra Evans and a team whose combined knowledge and experience in producing real ale craft beers has kept the business running since 2005. Born out of love and the challenges of setting up their own micro-brewery, Robert and Debra's ales have won numerous national awards in both cask and bottle.

As well as selling to hotels, pubs and retail outlets around the Peak District, Peak Ales is open to the public, with a shop at the barn or availability online.

Matlock Farm Park

Matlock Farm Park, which was recently voted Peak District & Derbyshire Visitor Attraction of the Year for the second year running, has a fantastic array of facilities, including an indoor play centre with coffee shop, a cafe, party and function rooms, large animal barns, a Changing Places facility and more.

On site you’ll find llamas, alpacas, sheep, meerkats, horses, donkeys, ducks, ferrets, chickens, geese, emus, wallabies, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats, deer, pigs and cows. There’s also a variety of rare breeds too such as the beautiful white, shaggy Swiss Valais Blacknose sheep to mighty Suffolk Punch horses of which there are so few now.

Peak Rail

Peak Rail was set up in the early 1980s and runs on what was the old Midland

Railway route linking Derby and Manchester across the Peak District. Trains depart from Rowsley South to Matlock, via Darley Dale, and back. Trains depart on weekends and bank holidays as well as Wednesdays in the summer.

One recent addition is their afternoon teas. These run on the Palatine restaurant train on Saturdays, last up to two hours, and consist of a selection of sandwiches followed by a homemade scone with clotted cream, butter and strawberry preserve.

Heights of Abraham

There’s no better way to start the day at the Heights of Abraham than by taking a flight in one of these famous cable cars. Travel across the picturesque Derwent Valley and enjoy the views of Matlock Bath below; the journey takes you over 554ft upwards to the summit, 1,000ft above sea level.

As well as heading up you can head down too by taking a tour underground in the two famous show caverns – the Great Rutland and Great Masson caverns. Follow one of the professional cavern guides deep into the hillside and learn tales of mining, history, geology, and tourism. Afterwards, take a stroll across the landscaped gardens that portray both the dark and light Peak District to the new film theatre and learn more about the formation of the caverns and a newly updated film about the construction of the cable cars.

Helen’s Bakery

Helen’s Bakery is the definition of delicious and was established in 1947 as Biltons. For years they have maintained a reputation for selling some of the best baked goods in Sheffield and have been under the management of Helen Wragg and Graham Foster since 2000 until Graham sadly passed away in 2016.

But they offer much more than just high-quality, delicious products. Helen’s Bakery is a full-service sandwich shop that has become an important part of the local community. Steak pies are a particular best-seller, filled with hand selected beef from top butchers Wasteneys in Grenoside.

They like to say they are bringing joy to Hillsborough, and is something they hope to do for years to come. Helens Bakery can also cater for any occasion.

High Bank Service Station

Starting out as a petrol filling station in the early 60s High Bank became a vehicle repair garage by the end of the decade. It was extensively extended in 1985 with a larger repair and MOT workshop and since acquisition in 2002 has been continuously updated to satisfy the ever changing needs of the modern motor vehicle.

High Bank offers: Fully guaranteed servicing, repairs and diagnostics on all vehicle makes and models by professional, continuously trained and friendly mechanics; MOT for all cars and motorhomes; Main dealer level support which does not affect your vehicle’s warranty – all at local garage prices; Exhausts, batteries, tyres and tracking; Free local vehicle collection or delivery and use of courtesy car.

Hillsborough Curtains

Hillsborough Curtains might be a relatively new business but owner Debra Allen brings a wealth of experience after training at John Lewis and working at Park View Soft Furnishings for 22 years.

It was the retirement of her partner at Park View that prompted Debra to set up her own business working from home. She now makes all aspects of made-tomeasure soft furnishings.

“The most rewarding thing is running a small business and keep it going through Covid,” she said. “I’ve been delighted to see some of my old customers return to my new business.”

JK Fencing

Martin-Brooks

Sheffield’s seven hills expose our homes to the worst of the British weather and the roof bears the brunt. But, when you’re down on the ground, it’s almost impossible to determine the extent of any damage.

Local firm, Martin-Brooks (roofing specialists), are experts in providing roof surveys, charging just £150 plus VAT for a comprehensive inspection and report, detailing the condition of the roof and a quote for any necessary repairs.

As a member of the Competent Roofer scheme, the firm is able to sign-off projects of this nature for building regulations, saving homeowners the time and expense of calling out a council inspector.

Moonlight Textiles

If you want to spruce up your rooms with a splash of colour this summer, pop along to Moonlight Textiles. Their large showroom displays a vast range of fabrics and designs including the newly introduced distinguished brand Romo Black Edition. These luxurious collections run alongside other well-known and up-and coming brands from the not so well-known manufacturers where quality and value for money fabrics have proven to be extremely popular. Moonlight’s comprehensive range of blinds are in constant demand with made-to-measure systems designed and manufactured to suit most window types. If you need a little help, not only do Moonlight offer a home measure and advisory service, their in-house team of fitters will professionally install your order to the highest of standards.

RB Allan & Sons Ltd

Established in 2003, RB Allan & Sons Ltd is a family-run business based near Meadowhall. It was initially set up by a father and his two sons who have always worked in the building trade. They started working from the family home with one van and a set of ladders but have since grown the business, taking on more family members throughout all departments.

RB Allan & Sons Ltd cover all aspects of roofing and building works across the South Yorkshire area and work with both private and commercial clients.

Like many businesses, Covid has proved to be a difficult period with staff absences and problems with supplies but they have managed well. In fact, with dedication and determination, they have expanded the business.

Slaters Aerials

Slaters Aerials is a family-run business, operating for over 47 years, over three generations - the present Slaters have been in charge for 28 years.

Simon and his team install all aspects of satellite television, television aerials, home entertainment systems and CCTV, both on a commercial and domestic basis.

Slaters cover the Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Chesterfield and Doncaster areas.

Owner Simon Slater said: “People like to deal with real people, they appreciate the personal touch that they get with us.”

Simon is very proud of the company’s reputation for high quality work and honest service. He said: “We only ever carry out work that’s needed and we would never sell anything that’s not totally necessary.”

Swift Gas

Swift Gas owner Neale Jackson has been in the plumbing, heating and gas industry for over 30 years. He has built up a successful business by offering local people a quality, honest service based on his years of experience.

The vast majority of Neale’s clients are in the north and west of Sheffield, in areas like Stocksbridge, Stannington, Deepcar, Penistone, Dore and Totley... and all points in between. “You’re more efficient when all your jobs are close together so I’d rather condense my work into one area,” he says.

“I’ll never book more than four jobs into any single day and I always leave gaps in between, because that gives me the leeway to tackle any problems that occur and also to react immediately to an emergency call-out.”

Celebrating 40 years

THE

FAMOUS SHEFFIELD SHOP IS INVITING CUSTOMERS TO HELP THEM CELEBRATE AT A SPECIAL HERITAGE OPEN DAY.

fter 40 years on Ecclesall Road, The Famous Sheffield Shop has become something of an institution in the city. This year marks a landmark anniversary for the independently run business and celebrations will coincide with the city’s Heritage Open Days.

Current owner, Jane Summers, will be holding a special event to mark the occasion on Sunday 17 September and will be inviting previous owners Don Alexander and Paul Iseard as well as some of those Sheffield makers that are responsible for creating and manufacturing the many items on display in the shop.

“Everyone is welcome to join us for a cup of tea and chat. After 40 years of continuous trading from the same site, we feel we’ve earned our heritage status in the steel city,” explains Jane. “The Sunday opening is a thank you to all the Sheffield support we have had over the years.”

The shop is now the only original tenant in the converted potted meat factory and opened in September 1983 by founder Don Alexander. Paul Iseard took over stewardship of the shop in 2001 and Jane, who had worked in the

shop since 2012, saw this as a great opportunity to continue the much-loved shop’s legacy and took over the business in 2020. Backed by a small knowledgeable team the business continues to improve and grow, with everyone involved very proud to be celebrating such a significant milestone.

Sheffield’s reputation for high quality manufacturing is world renowned and customers come from across the globe either in person or online to own something from our famous city. The shop stocks a wide range of cutlery, kitchen and pocket knives, scissors, jewellery and pewterware, all made within a short distance of its S11 location.

“All our products are chosen on the basis of their quality and value for money,” says Jane. “Our aim is to promote the best of Sheffield’s craftsmanship to potential and existing customers across the world.”

In addition to the retail side, through the shop and website, The Famous Sheffield Shop also offers a range of services including personalised engraving, knife sharpening, restoration and repairs.

“Down the years we have managed a wide range of restoration projects from

sterling silver tea sets to a humble paring knife,” adds Jane. “We can arrange the re-handling of table knives and hunting knives; replace worn out blades, restore carbon steel bladed items, replate silverplated items, knock out dents, make new components - the list is open-ended.”

There are few cities left that can celebrate a heritage that is still a thriving industry and The Famous Sheffield Shop proudly showcases the best that our city has to offer.

So why not come and join them on Sunday 17 September 12-6pm at the Ecclesall Road shop.

Exhibition

Colour and Light: Scottish Colourists from the Fleming Collection

Until 9 December / Graves Gallery sheffieldmuseums.org.uk

The four artists known as the Scottish Colourists, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell, John Duncan Fergusson, George Leslie Hunter and Samuel John Peploe, were one of the most talented, experimental and distinctive groups in 20th century British art. The lives, relationships and accomplishments of these pioneering artists are set to be explored in Colour and Light: Scottish Colourists from the Fleming Collection, a new exhibition at opening at Sheffield’s Graves Gallery this summer.

Colour and Light traces Cadell, Fergusson, Hunter and Peploe’s development as virtuosos of dazzling interiors, landscapes, portraits and still lifes. As early supporters of breakthrough artists in France, they drew inspiration from PostImpressionists Paul Cézanne and Vincent Van Gogh, as well as the work of Henri Matisse, André Derain and more. Emboldened by such creativity, these young Scots explored the frontiers of contemporary art through their cutting-edge use of pure colour and line.

The exhibition will present over 30 paintings, sculpture and works on paper from the Fleming Collection. Alongside works by Cadell, Fergusson, Hunter and Peploe, Colour and Light also includes a rare painting by Fergusson’s partner, Margaret Morris, an accomplished but often overlooked artist better known for her contribution to dance. The Fleming Collection works are complemented by two paintings by Cadell and Hunter from Sheffield’s own collection.

The exhibition has been co-curated by James Knox, Director of the Fleming Collection and author of The Scottish Colourists, the recent book surveying the group’s place in Bristish art history. Works on display illustrate key moments in the group’s development, from their precocious beginnings to the maturity of their later works as landscape painters entranced by the distinctive beauty of the Scottish light.

Time to protect future wishes in aid of cancer charity

SEPTEMBER IS FREE WILLS MONTH AND THE PERFECT TIME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH BEST SOLICITORS.

The Wills & Probate experts at Best Solicitors have partnered with Cavendish Cancer Care during Free Wills Month to help families protect their wishes.

Existing Wills can be updated, or new Wills can be drafted, in support of the charity which helps individuals and families living with cancer.

Research shows that more than half of adults in the UK do not have a Will in place expressing their wishes after their death - including funeral preferences and how assets are distributed amongst loved ones.

An important legally binding document for all adults, having a Will drafted by professionals is often put off for different reasons, however, can lead to serious problems after a person’s death.

The complications of not having a Will are sadly sometimes only realised when it is too late. Family members may find themselves not inheriting anything from

their loved one, or disputes may ensue causing further upset and serious family rifts.

The normal cost of a single Will is £200, and £350 for a couple however, during September only Best Solicitors will not charge for this service in return for a donation direct to Cavendish Cancer Care of £100 for an individual Will, or £150 for a couple.

Cavendish Cancer Care provides support, counselling, and complementary therapies to families living with cancer. The centre is predominantly funded via public donations.

To book an appointment with Best Solicitors during this September activity contact willenquiries@bestsolicitorsonline.co. uk or speak to the team on 0114 358 3134.

Heavenly temptations

CHARLES BRADSHAW DISCOVERS HIDDEN DELIGHTS INSIDE THE OLDEST BUILDING IN SHEFFIELD THAT’S STILL IN DAILY USE.

n a rainy summer weekday, it was a welcome relief to take refuge inside and visit 1554 Coffee Shop within Sheffield Cathedral. Opened in June 2015, 1554 Coffee Shop has been managed by Ruth MaherHeslip since its inception. Ruth now has the role of Enterprise Business Manager and oversees both the Cathedral’s coffee shop and adjacent gift shop operations.

The quirky brand name derives from the year Mary I granted a Royal Charter that returned lands and property to the people of Sheffield after former King Edward VI had confiscated them in a religious coup prior to his untimely death.

Through the Cathedral’s awardwinning hexagonal entrance hall and across the west end nave, an impressive six panel stained glass window featuring Saints Peter and Paul - Patron Saints of Sheffield Cathedral - sits above the glass doors of 1554 Coffee Shop. It’s a deceptively spacious area with plenty of tables, comfortable seating and abundant natural light.

Upon our arrival, just at the turn of noon, the shop was already bustling. We were promptly escorted to a table and began to study the menu. The lunch menu offerings include a wide selection

of hot and cold food with vegetarian options also available. The day’s soup and quiche selections are prominently displayed on a chalkboard behind the food counter. Ordering is made at the till with a table numbering system.

To begin, I opted for rose lemonade (£2.60) with my dining companion choosing a bottle of spring water (£1.50). Drinks were promptly served, with our food selections arriving shortly after. My Ploughman’s Plate (£8.75) was a bounty of delights, comprising a large wedge of Cheddar cheese, crunchy pickled onions, seasonal coleslaw plus bread and butter portions. Unfortunately, due to unexpected circumstances, pork pies had not been delivered on time. Our server had informed us prior to ordering, so instead I was treated to sampling a Cornish Pasty. The warm pastry was delightfully soft and flavoursome with a generous meat and vegetable filling. My companion chose Quiche of the Day; a butternut squash, rocket and tomato recipe. An ample slice was presented alongside a plethora of mouth-watering salad components: namely, coleslaw, pesto-infused pasta, chutney, tomatoes and salad leaves. The freshly baked warm tart had a delightful consistency with each mouthful melting in the mouth,

perfectly complementing the colourful medley.

To complete our luncheon, we shared a Bakewell slice (£3.10) with its distinctive tastes of jam and almonds, topped with thick, sticky icing. Finally, hot drinks were selected; my small Americano (£3) made from freshly ground beans and delivered piping hot; a special blend created for the 1554 Coffee Shop. My fellow diner finished with a traditional small pot of Yorkshire Tea (£1.90).

With our hunger and thirst truly satisfied, we departed through the gift shop, vowing to return. 1554 Coffee Shop is a great space, providing a range of wholesome food and drinks – and a great place to escape from the unpredictable British weather.

Get a taste of Bangers and Cash at Art in the Gardens

South Yorkshire youth homeless charity

Roundabout launched its Bangers and Cash challenge in 2018, when 21 teams of intrepid adventurers hit the road in support of South Yorkshire’s homeless and most vulnerable young people.

The UK’s first art road show banger rally raised £96,000 as supporters drove from Sheffield to Monte Carlo in the craziest road trip of the year, their car bonnets all decorated with unique works created specially by well-known artists.

Now Bangers and Cash is back and heading for a new destination, the German city of Munich and its famous Oktoberfest, setting off from Meadowhall on 14 September.

And on 2 and 3 September there will be a chance to see the decorated bonnets before the cars depart with a special preview at Sheffield’s Art in the Gardens event in the city’s Botanical Gardens.

Among the artists contributing to this year’s event are Lisa Maltby, Tom J Newell, Matt Cockayne, Sian Ellis, Emily Redfearn, Vicky Scott, Jaydon Robottom, SKEG and Lois Cordelia.

As part of the festivities, Thyme Cafe has launched a celebratory gin, “Thyme XX,” in collaboration with Locksley Distilling Co. This exclusive gin is a limited edition crafted with bold flavours, reflecting the restaurant’s dedication to providing unique and memorable experiences for its guests.

Looking ahead, Thyme Cafe has exciting plans for more “supper club” events, which will be announced at a later date. These popular events promise to be memorable dining experiences, bringing together food & wine lovers in a small and intimate atmosphere.

Chance to bag a bargain at stately home car boot

Bargain-hunters will be flocking to Wentworth Woodhouse on Sunday September 10 in search of boot-y when a Bring Out Your Treasures car boot sale is held to support the Master Cutlers’ Challenge.

South Yorkshire business folk, and even Hallamshire’s Master Cutler herself, are currently raiding their attics, garages and wardrobes for bargains to ‘boot.’

The event is being organised by well-known Sheffield business management consultancy Andy Hanselman Consulting, which is run by husband and wife team Andy Hanselman and Jill White.

The ‘Bring Out Your Treasure’ Car Boot Sale runs from 9.30am to 1.30pm on the North Lawns opposite the Stables and a children’s treasure trail is being arranged to keep ‘little booters’ busy.

To book a car boot selling spot, contact Jill@andyhanselman.com or danielle@andyhanselman.com or call 0114 243 4666.

Secret postcard art

In 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, Cupola Gallery hosted its first ever secret postcard show as fundraiser to help with critical buildings works at the gallery. It proved hugely popular and helped raise much needed funds. So, by popular demand, it has returned.

Having opened on 26 August, this latest exhibition runs until 30 September at the gallery on Middlewood Road.

For those unaware of the concept, it is very simple. Artists, professional or amateur, adults or children are invited to create a postcard sized original artwork in any media. Each artist may submit up to 10 entries. Once completed the artist adds all their contact details and signature to the back of the artwork only. Then these works are kindly donated to the gallery. Every postcard is displayed anonymously and all are priced at £15 each irrespective of who has made it. You only get to discover the author of the postcard after it has been purchased, hence the secret.

This year the gallery is splitting the funds raised 50/50 between the gallery and International Disaster relief. The money raised and donated will be published on the gallery website after the show.

Why it’s difficult to purchase a Rolex

PA JEWELLERY EXPLAINS THE SITUATION OF ACQUIRING AN ICONIC TIMEPIECE.

ertain Rolex watches, particularly the professional range, have been difficult to buy for a while now but in the last couple of years, things have moved up to a different level.

Even though key models would be absent, not long ago it was normal for a Rolex stockist to have 100-plus watches on display. Today, you will find a sparse selection to choose from with those probably the less popular options. Even if you do spot your dream watch in a window you may find it has a plaque saying ‘exhibition only’ meaning you can look but not buy.

Rolex have explained that the shortage is due to an increase in global

demand (especially with an explosion in the Asian market). Production cannot be quickly increased due to the highly skilled and labour intensive nature of manufacture. Such skill cannot be taught overnight – it requires years of training and experience.

So, what does this mean for the secondary market?

The difficulty of acquiring new watches has encouraged more people to consider pre-owned instead. Therefore, prices on nearly new watches are strong, in some cases slightly over the list prices as the motivation to buy second hand is about availability rather than price. That’s not to say that there are not bargains to be had, particularly in watches over ten years old, but prices are based on what buyers are willing to pay rather than comparison being made to the new price.

The premium models are mainly but not exclusively the professional range. Due to the extremely limited supply these watches are being offered in the secondary market at substantially more than the suggested retail prices; in the most extreme cases, up to three times

those advertised on the Rolex website.

If you’ve spoken to a stockist about one of these watches in the last couple of decades you will be familiar with the idea of waiting lists, but today it’s not as simple as putting your deposit down and taking delivery in three to five years. Demand is outstripping supply to such a degree that the distribution is being heavily curated; Rolex stockists are selling their limited allocation to select customers that have a history with the store and that they’re confident will not sell the watch straight on for a profit. Of course, this makes nearly new pre-owned stock even more scarce, further driving up values.

We hope this explains a little bit about the current situation. If you have any questions or wish to know more, we are always happy to talk Rolex and offer advice. We also have an excellent selection of pre-owned models in our showroom.

Pride and joy

WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR CAR, TURN TO THE EXPERTS FOR COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND.

You wouldn’t take your Rolex watch to just any old repair shop would you?

While most people are unlikely to ever get their hands on one of the prestigious timepieces, many are fortunate enough to own a car that not only gets them from A to B but that they feel great pride in.

Nick Crouch established Tec-Nick Autos in 2010 and believes wholeheartedly in applying the Rolex philosophy to cars. He promotes the benefit of taking your precious vehicle to a specialist engineer – rather than a onesize-fits-all garage – and this doesn’t have to mean the main dealer.

As an ATA diagnostic technician who trained at Audi and who worked for Gilders in Sheffield for 11 years, Nick is perfectly placed to apply his specialist skills to your Audi, VW, SEAT or Skoda – as well as other makes.

Tec-Nick Autos moved to state-of-theart premises on Dannemora Drive (close to Sheffield Arena) in August 2019 which enabled them to enhance their services even further.

With specialist diagnostic equipment geared specifically for these brands they can do everything the main dealer can but with the added bonus of carrying out the work for up to 60 per cent less. This includes MOTs, tyres, servicing, and almost any other work that may need doing.

Tec-Nick Autos also offer engine re-mapping and

tuning using Rapid modules. Engine remapping is when the car’s onboard computer (often called an Electronic Control Unit, or ECU) is

modified with new software to affect its behaviour.

From the factory, the vast majority of cars won’t have their engine’s maximum potential performance on offer — even on sports cars. ECUs usually limit the engine’s performance to improve reliability, emissions and fuel consumption.

A remap is usually done to unlock more power from an engine by removing some of these restrictions. It’s also possible to have a remap focused on increasing fuel consumption as well.

Offering true peace of mind, all parts that are fitted at Tec-Nick Autos carry a minimum of 12 months warranty. And if your car is brand new, any work they do won’t invalidate the manufacturers warranty.

Nick has built up such a sterling reputation over the last 13 years, and is so well trusted, that new cars are even brought to the garage for their first service. This is thanks in no small part to his excellent background and training.

Go big or go home

After turning their attention to the hatchback market in recent years, Renault have now switched their focus to large cars with the launch of the Rafale.

The all-new Renault Rafale is the first production vehicle entirely designed according to the new visual language that Gilles Vidal has brought in as Head of Design Renault. It is visionary, daring, perfectly in tune with its time and tailor-made for a period when everything is moving ever faster.

The car also features up-to-the-minute connectivity and a 200hp E-Tech full hybrid powertrain that is as efficient as it is frugal and uses recycled materials.

The all-new Renault Rafale is an advanced coupe SUV, it looks as vibrant as it feels when you drive it, and it is an opportunity to share an intense driving experience with friends or children – however grownup they may be.

The all-new Renault Rafale 200 hp E-Tech full hybrid will reach markets in spring 2024.

Magnificent seven

Kia UK has revealed pricing and specifications for the all-new Kia EV9, the brand’s new flagship three-row electric SUV.

Kia will offer three grades to EV9 buyers in the UK: ‘Air’, ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’, each with a three-row, seven-seat layout as standard. All three models offer a 99.8 kWh long-range battery pack with heat pump, and with it the ability to drive up to more than 300 miles from a single charge. Kia’s 800V ultra-fast charging technology means every version of the EV9 can be recharged from 10-to-80 per cent in as little as 24 minutes when plugged into a 350kW high-powered charger.

The first UK customer deliveries of the EV9 ‘GT-Line S’ will start from January 2024, with ‘Air’ and ‘GT-Line’ models due to follow later on. Prices start from £64,995.

Shaped by desire

Mercedes-Benz is continuing its long tradition of sporty, elegant dream cars with a new, independent series. The new CLE Coupé uses the conceptual and technical innovations of the C-Class and E-Class. With its expressive design, exclusive comfort equipment for maximum individuality and confident, sporty driving performance, the new two-door car goes its own way.

The new CLE Coupé sets standards in efficiency thanks to systematic electrification and intelligent downsizing. All engines are mild hybrids with an integrated starter generator and 48-volt electrical system. There is a choice of four-cylinder units and – as the most powerful engine – a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine.

High performance

The latest generation BMW M2 raises the bar in the high-performance premium compact segment. The new car builds on its formidable predecessor’s strengths to deliver an even greater driving experience, taking the formula of a classic high-performance sports car and reproducing it in highly concentrated form with cutting-edge technology.

The new BMW M2 encapsulates the pure joy of driving: its compact dimensions, a six-cylinder in-line engine, a manual gearbox option, rear-wheel drive and an advanced control/operating concept – allowing the driver to adjust the vehicle setup as desired – are all central to its appeal.

With a maximum output of 460hp – 90hp more than the original BMW M2 – and exhilarating driving dynamics that have been honed during in-depth testing on the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit and other race tracks, the new BMW M2 represents another highlight in the model offensive celebrating the 50-year anniversary of BMW M GmbH. Priced from £64,890 OTR.
