Giving you a REASON TO SMILE
Green Dental & Implant Centre offers a complete implant journey.
ental implants have revolutionised dentistry by providing a more advanced and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. They are designed to mimic the natural look and feel of teeth and, unlike traditional dentures or bridges, offer a more stable treatment option.
DWhen a tooth is lost, the underlying jawbone can start to deteriorate over time causing bone loss around the area. Placing an implant can help to stabilise the foundation and where necessary additional bone can be generated
This retention of the bone and the implant crown (this is the tooth that attaches to the structure and provide a stable chewing surface. Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth, a full arch or can even be used to support full dentures. This versatility makes them suitable for various types of tooth loss scenarios.
With proper care, dental implants can be a long-term solution. This makes them a more permanent and cost-effective solution compared to some traditional tooth replacement options that may need frequent replacements or adjustments.
Implants can restore oral function but they also contribute to an improved quality of life. Patients with dental implants often overall satisfaction with their oral health.
At Green Square Dental & Implant Centre we can provide a seamless approach to your implant journey. Dr Duncan Park (BDS
now teaches implant dentistry.
The practice offers a complete implant journey and Green Square Dental boasts its allowing them to scan the jaw for bone volume. Traditionally this would have needed a hospital referral for a scan, but now means Green Square can give immediate results and a decision on what is involved with implant treatment at the initial consultation.
In the following case, the patient was missing several of his upper teeth and
feeling frustrated with the lack of stability he came to see implantologist Duncan agreed treatment plan was to place a full upper implant bridge. This meant removing the upper arch using guided surgery with an immediate temporary bridge. This was all done using IV sedation to make the
process meant the surgery time was less and the surgery, maintaining his appearance. This patient has now achieved his desired smile.
Green Square Dental really are giving you a reason to smile!

Working TOGETHER
Countryside hotel and restaurant, The Maynard, makes the most of its surroundings, writes Richard Abbey.
The Maynard take great pride in sourcing much of their produce from local suppliers, including New Close Farm (Haddon), R G Morris & and Hattersley Wines (Bakewell).
It forms the backbone of a delicious all-day restaurant menu, which has been expertly compiled by head chef Greg Robinson and executive chef Adrian Gagea, and is characterised as ‘British with a twist’.
It’s certainly an extensive menu and features everything from starters and sharers to salads, sandwiches, steaks and main courses. But it’s a menu in-keeping of its surroundings; The Maynard is a gorgeous hotel, restaurant and events venue in Grindleford that seems to blend contemporary and countryside chic perfectly.
A major refurbishment to the interior last year has created a very cosy restaurant space that offers views over a new outdoor terrace and gardens. At night it’s lit by candlelight and soft lighting to create a welcoming yet intimate atmosphere. We really liked it.
My wife and I chose a glass of wine each – Montepulciano D’Abruzzo (£7.80 for 250ml) for her and a Chilean Pinot Noir
(£9.95 for 250ml) for me – before tucking into our starters. A twice-baked cheddar
stilton sauce (£9.25), had been cooked pan-fried scallops, served with a roast prawn and herb oil (£12.95) was deliciously indulgent.
Main courses continued the already high standards and featured cuts of meat sourced from nearby New Close Farm. My wife’s venison loin (£34.95) had been cooked classically with a Provence herbs crust and was served with a beetroot and potato ballotine wrapped in pancetta. The sweetness from the beetroot, balsamic and blackberry perfectly complemented the meat, which was served pink.
My lamb dish (£24.95) offered something of a Middle-Eastern twist and came with a spiced pistachio dukkah, goats’ cheese
heat, the dukkah – a nutty spice mix made with coriander and cumin – added another dimension to a dish that was so much more than meat and potatoes. It was delicious.
We didn’t stop there and chose from a
very vegan-friendly dessert menu, which included plant-based ice creams, mousses
– apple and blueberry almond crumble with vegan vanilla ice cream (£8.95) –whilst I, being ever indecisive, opted for the Grindleford Gourmand, a selection of miniature desserts served with espresso (£11.95). this translated to small portions of the crumble, chocolate brownie, tiramisu and mango and raspberry vegan mousse. If that wasn’t enough, scoops of vegan vanilla ice cream and raspberry sorbet and even
The Maynard is owned and operated by Longbow Bars & Restaurants and is a great place to visit any time of day. There are hotel rooms if you’d like to extend your stay even further and a large function is perfect for weddings, occasions and corporate events. The great OUTDOORS
We all have our ‘happy’ places and for many of us that is our gardens, whether we like to work in them, sit in them or just enjoy and peace and tranquillity they can provide. It’s no surprise that prolonged periods spent outside have been proven to have a positive effect on our wellbeing and can help to reduce anxiety and boost self-esteem and mood.
It’s something Kendall Turner certainly appreciates and it was in her garden –the solace she needed, and so much more.
Originally from Nottingham, Kendall completing a philosophy degree in Leeds. It was a completely new city and new experience for the couple who were taken in by its friendly nature and wonderful green spaces.
As a teacher working with children with special educational needs, Kendall found her role both rewarding but very challenging and was a time when she admits to feeling quite ‘low’. She found
boost her mood was to visit her Heeley and Meersbrook allotment everyday after school.
“I would go, without fail, every day, rain or shine,” she recalled. “It felt like the only place where I’d got a good grip on things. My dad had an allotment for 30 years and I pretty much grew up on that. I’ve always loved gardening.”
It was while working on the allotment that the seeds for a career change were sown and Kendall was keen to share her own experience with others who might share similar feelings or circumstances.
“I just felt like everyone should have access to what’s making me feel better,” she said.
And so Bloom was born.
that offers women and non-binary people (they are also trans-inclusive) a safe, friendly, inclusive space with the aim of improving mental health and wellbeing, reducing social isolation and teaching and sharing skills. This is done through
“The premise of what we do is very circular,” explained Kendall. “We grow them up, sell them and then all the money we raise from everything we do goes back into keeping the gardens open and keep us delivering those groups.”
Bloom has four gardens: two spaces at Heeley and Meersbrook allotments and two private production gardens, one in Dore and one in Wortley Hall’s walled garden.
The original, which opened in 2019, is called ‘Baby Bloom’ with the bigger allotment space called ‘Big Bloom’ and it’s here where therapeutic horticulture groups – called Gardening to Feel Good – are held twice weekly.
“We’ll work closely with you to set achievable goals and create a personalised programme designed to improve your mental wellbeing,” explained Kendall. “As part of a supportive group of like-minded people, you’ll plant, weed, dig, sow, and sip tea in the fresh air until things start to feel easier.”
These courses last for eight weeks and Bloom accept people who have been
referred by doctors or health professionals or those who have self-referred.
“We wanted to keep the self-referral pathway open because we know that not everyone who is struggling with their mental health is under the care system,” added Kendall. “They may not feel
“Everyone in life has had moments where they feel low or lonely or stressed and anxious and need a little bit of support –that’s where we come in. We didn’t want to create a barrier, we’re there for everybody.”
As well as the therapeutic horticulture groups, Bloom also have drop-in sessions twice weekly – called Gather and Grow – where you can help out on any of the gardens.
New for spring this year are baby and toddler groups, called Bloom Seedlings
and Bloom Saplings respectively. These will be held at Big Bloom with the former looking at connections to nature and to other parents whilst Saplings will be more of a forest school with a pond, digging pit, play areas and more.
Complementing the four gardens is a shop in Woodseats, which opened in July scented candles, soaps and other gifts, all
Bloom-grown botanicals.
Kendall who has seen Bloom grow immeasurably. The shop is the latest addition and allows the social enterprise to become a year-round business, providing
time this winter, Bloom hosted a full
wellbeing programme with workshops covering everything from yoga and knitting to willow weaving and wreath making. It’s something they will be looking to repeat and grow in the future.
Kendall has had plenty of help along the way and is particularly thankful to fellow directors Kate and Jane who have helped to grow Bloom as well as the many volunteers and members that have made the social enterprise into what it is today.
“I knew how to grow stuff [when I started] but didn’t know how to run a business,” Kendall admitted. “I met Jane, she changed the game and had a lot of experience running businesses, particularly
HR, all those things that I didn’t have much experience with.”
As the allotments are council-owned,
in the private production gardens and are a mixture of annuals and perennials. As well as the shop being an outlet for them, they will be hosting a series of pop-ups throughout the year and a new addition will
“We’ve just got an electric cargo bike, it’s an absolute beast,” beamed Kendall. “We’ve got lots of little boxes that slot on by bike.”
It’s perhaps surprising to discover that before starting Bloom, Kendall had never growing fruit and vegetables on her dad’s allotment.
“So from that to cutting to thousands and thousands of stems each week…
I’ve learned so much,” she said. “I think what’s really nice about this community, we’re all sort of learning together. There’s no pressure to come and get it right straightaway, I think gardening can be intimidating for some people. We want people to just come and have a go, if it grows, great, if not, don’t worry about it.”
Bloom is very much a no pressure environment that allows people to participate as much or as little as they like. All that matters is that they get something out of it. And the sunshine and tea can’t hurt either.
“As part of a supportive group of like-minded people, you’ll plant, weed, dig, sow, and sip tea in the fresh air until things start to feel easier.”
