fter three successful consecutive years, the Westside & Southside Bar & Restaurant Awards has settled comfortably into its new location at the OEC – Owlerton Events & Conferencing.
This year’s event, which takes place on Monday 28 October, will be the fourth time we have held the event here and if the previous years are anything to go by, 2024’s ceremony is going to be another fantastic affair.
Rewinding back to last year, over 200 people packed out the Hillsborough venue, which opened in late 2019 and hosts a range of impressive multi-purpose suites with catering for up to 500 guests, a perfect setting for weddings, dinners, balls, conferences, live events and more. It
well organised, the service was faultless throughout the evening ensuring that the awards ran smoothly and without a hitch.
When it came to the 2023 Westside & Southside Restaurant & Bar Awards, competition was keen of course, and we were delighted at how many local
restaurants, bars and cafes entered into the festivities. It was fantastic to see all of the nominees together in one room, celebrating the superb quality of independent eateries found in our region and beyond.
One of our most popular awards on the night is the Readers’ Choice Award, voted
of entries and after a close call between The Maynard, The George and The Wortley scooped the prize for the second year in
over 700 votes.
Each of our 22 winners received an engraved plaque, which were presented on the night by publishing managers Mandy Ogle and Sally-Anne Sharp and publishing director Amanda Roy.
Here’s a reminder to all restaurant, hotel, café and pub owners: to make sure your establishment is under consideration for the 2023 Westside Restaurant & Bar Awards, contact publishing manager Sam Warsop at sam.warsop@rmcmedia.co.uk

“I booked the cover and two pages of advertising in Westside magazine's March edition and have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of business we have received from it. Two large companies have now started placing orders with us. They have become great accounts and both stated they saw the piece in the magazine and got in touch.
The process with Richard and the team couldn't have been any more simple from start to finish and was really impressed by the operation they ran. We will definitely be advertising again.” -

End of an era
The T.L. Killi’s Shop on Glossop
than six decades. Established in 1964, its founder, Mr Killi, built a thriving company that expanded over the years, with two more sites opening in Handsworth in the 1980s and another in 2019.
Sadly, Mr Killi passed away in June 2023, and since then, the shop has not been the same without him. Now, a new chapter in the Killis’ story has begun, and the famliy regret to announce that the Glossop Road Branch has now permanently closed.
They aim to pay tribute to Mr. Killi’s outstanding life and accomplishments and preserve the company he built by concentrating on core business strengths. There are some thrilling expansion plans for Killis, which will celebrate and uphold his vision.
The outpouring of support from customers since Mr Killi’s passing has been extremely comforting to the Killi family, and to do the business justice, they have made hard decisions to secure their future.
All operations have now migrated to the branch in Handsworth, where there is full servicing, hire, a trade counter, and a showroom.
This year also marks the 60th year of trading, and this summer the family are planning a party with all staff. Part of this is to recognise and celebrate Mr Killi’s accomplishments and what the entire team has achieved over such a long time.
