Words: Stephanie Burns

Welcome return A pleasing experience was well remembered by the Arnolds, as they chose Layers once again to fit their new flooring.

W

ith a huge choice of flooring options to suit all tastes and budgets, as well as a friendly, professional service that has earned them a solid reputation, it’s little wonder that Layers Flooring customers are lining up to sing the company’s praises. Happy to share their first-class experience are David and Barbara Arnold of Dronfield Woodhouse, who chose Layers to supply and fit new vinyl flooring in their kitchen and dining room. Mr and Mrs Arnold said: “We first chose Layers eight years ago when they fitted our kitchen with vinyl flooring. We initially went to them because they are a local firm and so we thought we would give them a try. They were in the Civic Centre back then and we used to pass them while out shopping. “Having been very happy with the service, when we decided to have vinyl fitted in the dining room too, we used Layers again. The

dining room used to be carpeted but now it is more easily accessible for David, who uses a wheeled walker, as it is all one level and totally flat. “When we visited the shop to enquire about the flooring, we felt very looked after. They got a chair for David and moved things around in the shop to make it more easily accessible for him. “We had something quite specific in mind and were shown lots of samples. The choice was great and they explained about the different types of vinyl, helping us to reach the right decision. After we had chosen, they said it could be done within two weeks and were happy to fit it at a convenient time for us. “In the meantime, a man came round to measure the room and he brought samples so we could double check we were completely happy with our choice. “Then when the fitter arrived a few days later we recognised each other as he was the one who had fitted our kitchen flooring eight years ago. He placed plywood down in the dining room – as he had done previously with the kitchen – before laying the flooring so it was nice and smooth. The vinyl is also very

thick so it looks just like real wooden floorboards. “We were so impressed with the fitter’s workmanship; he was brilliant. We still can’t get our head around how he fitted the flooring as it was all in one piece but it’s incredibly neat – especially around the radiator pipes. He also pulled out the fridge, freezer and washer and put them back into place with no trouble. All in under two hours. “He was so impressed with his handiwork he even asked us if he could take a photograph for his portfolio! “If anybody asks us where to get new flooring, we would definitely recommend Layers. And in the future when we need new carpets we’ll certainly be popping up there.” Layers Flooring 55 Highfield Road, Hilltop Dronfield S18 1UW Tel: 01246 292969 Branch also at: 46 Sandygate Road, Crosspool Sheffield S10 5RY Tel: 0114 266 9888 Roll end centre at: 10 Hicks Street, Neepsend, Sheffield S3 8BL Tel: 0114 278 1514

Polyflor Camaro vinyl tiles in ‘ivory stone’

Looking to add colour and character to their home, the Bentleys didn’t hesitate in calling in the experts at Dronfield Carpets & Floors.

Words: Hannah Pearson

Allen and Anita chose a Beaumont high quality woven Axminster carpet from the Ulster Carpets Country House Collection in ‘chalk downs’ for the stairs, landing and sitting room

New carpet? Check

llen and Anita Bentley moved into their lovely home in Dore a couple of years ago and they recently decided that the time had come to redecorate and put their own stamp on the place. After decorating much of the house, they called on Dronfield Carpets & Floors to revamp their flooring in comfort and style. Showroom owner Tom Straw and his team laid carpet on the stairs, landing and in the sitting room, as well as laying tiles in the bathroom. Working around the decorators, Tom and his experienced team of fitters installed new carpet that flowed seamlessly from the upstairs landing, down the stairs and into the cosy sitting room. “Tom is very reliable and he goes out of his way to help – nothing is too much trouble,” said Anita. “I wanted to replace the beige carpet we had before as I thought it was quite boring and I planned to update it with a bit more colour and character.” Allen and Anita chose a Beaumont high quality woven Axminster carpet from the Ulster Carpets Country House Collection in ‘chalk downs’ for the stairs, landing and sitting room. “We have a holiday cottage

SOUTHSIDE 6

in Scotland, which made me really like the idea of having a tartan carpet. I would have preferred traditional red and black but I thought it would be too dark. “Tom presented me with a range of possible designs and I went for the most neutral one that I could find. I took a selection of sample books home and we had a family vote. “We are really pleased with our choice, which is very high quality and, with the best underlay installed, I expect it will last for many years.” As well as being stylish, the Bentley’s new tartan carpet is also practical. As the central part of their home, the sitting room sees a lot of traffic from the family and their adorable dog Eddie. The Ulster carpet is a good choice as it is high quality and is suitable for extra heavy wear. Made from 80 per cent wool, it is also a safe option to have alongside their log fire in the sitting room. Tom even suggested having a separate piece of carpet bound to provide a

plush rug in front of the fire. After laying the carpet downstairs, Tom and his team started work on the bathroom. The Bentley’s family bathroom previously had carpet – which Anita couldn’t wait to get rid of. Searching for a design that looked clean and fresh and could be maintained easily, the couple chose Polyflor Camaro vinyl tiles in ‘ivory stone’. The classic tiles instantly updated the bathroom with an elegant pearl feature strip. “I have absolutely no qualms about recommending Tom and his team to my friends and family. They offer a professional service, value for money products and take great care to get the flooring just right. “Our son recently bought a house and Dronfield Carpets & Floors are now laying new carpet throughout the whole property.” Dronfield Carpets & Floors 120 Sheffield Road, Dronfield, S18 2GE Tel: 01246 292391 www.dronfieldcarpetsandfloors.co.uk

The last hurrah

From gastronomic tours to relaxing spa retreats, Fiona Barber looks at the changing face of the stag and hen do.

T

he days of grooms-to-be waking up minus clothes or dignity and of brides-to-be decorated with learner plates, tiaras and garters are long gone. Over the last decade traditional stag and hen parties – the debauched soirées of

brides and grooms – have become more sophisticated and less booze based. For ladies the industry has even invented a new phrase for it: a swan party. With more hens and stags opting for a weekend of relaxation, or adventure and entertainment, instead of a night of drunken

table dancing, the stakes are higher than ever. Organising the event in question comes with immense pressure. So if you are feeling the strain or are stuck for ideas, then read on for Westside’s suggestions of how to keep your stags, hens, brides and grooms entertained on the trip of a lifetime.

Spas If relaxing in a Jacuzzi ‘til you wrinkle like a prune, being slathered in mud, and massaged until you’re knot-free is your idea of heaven – then a spa break is the answer. Despite Croatia being well known for its gorgeous coastlines and historical past, hidden away in the hills are numerous toplice – thermal spas or hot springs. Though popular year round, thermal spas are especially appropriate once the temperature falls, inviting you to seek relief from the cold, in warm, health-boosting pools. When you’re tired of soaking, enjoy a healing mud treatment. This mineral-enriched mud, with a temperature of about 40 degrees is thickly spread over the body and after several minutes, is washed off with mineral water. If you’re not a fan of the mud there are plenty other massages and spa treatments to choose from. www.wellbeingescapes.com thehealthyholidaycompany.co.uk

Skiing For those looking for a bit of action – no not that kind – hitting the slopes could be the perfect way to spend the days, before returning to a luxurious chalet. It doesn’t matter if some members of the group have never skied before – classes are available to get to grips with the basic skills and the more experienced in the group can help others out – a fantastic way to exercise, bond and have fun. The French Alps have long been a favourite destination for British skiers looking for a luxury ski holiday and with a fine choice of exclusive hotels and sumptuous private chalets, combined with excellent ski opportunities and facilities along with stylish in-resort boutiques and it isn’t hard to see why. On a luxury skiing holiday to France, you can choose from a number of options. Whether you like your skiing to come with plenty of scope and accessibility, such as those of Les Trois Valees, the world’s largest skiing area, and L’ Espace Killy, or you prefer the more varied terrain of places like Chamonix and Megeve, you’ll not be disappointed. The laid-back continental atmosphere certainly adds to the appeal and in true French style the appreciation of fine cuisine and leisurely lunches play an important part of any visit to the region. crystalski.co.uk/luxury-ski-holidays www.elegantresorts.co.uk

Hire an island Finding your own slice of paradise for the perfect stag or hen party is no easy task. Locating a destination that offers plenty of adventure, cool drinks and a good serving of sunshine for a completely exclusive getaway is difficult – but what about hiring an island that is exclusively yours? Think Castaway in Tahiti, first-class luxury in the Bahamas, or enjoy the tropical climate of Florida. Arrive in style in a helicopter, snorkel with tropical fish, enjoy a range of water sports, play tennis. Do whatever you like really, because there’s just you, your party and a few helping hands – like your own private chef – to ensure this is the best possible holiday ever. stagweb.co.uk rent.privateislandsonline.com

Drink For lovers of fine wine, a tasting holiday could be just what you’re looking for. Choose a tour that includes special visits to the cellars of winemakers and be treated to private tastings with the winemakers themselves. Enjoy gourmet and regional food, deliciously matched to the wines. Experience dining as a private guest at a bodega, winery or renowned Bordeaux chateau – one of the ultimate experiences that you can have on a wine tour and be guided by one of the world’s great experts to the ‘unvisitable’ domaines in Burgundy. In France visit the beautiful vineyards of Alsace as well as Rhone or Burgundy, and drink luxurious bubbles in Champagne. In Italy, visit top growers in Trentino, Sicily or Tuscany. Or perhaps you’d rather go to Chile, look at the origin of wine in Georgia, or explore Barolo’s cru vineyards on a vineyard walk in Piedmonte. Wherever you go, you’re sure to discover and experience a new side of wine you never knew existed. You’ll return home a master of smelling and swilling, and will be able to impress friends with your knowledge on food and wine matching. winetours.co.uk grapeescapes.net

www.regionalmagazine.co.uk

Eat If food needs to take centre stage, a gourmet holiday – where you’ll discover how some mouth-watering ingredients are produced, taste regional specialities and explore the delights of gourmet restaurants – is ideal. Visit producers of local speciality food and gain an insight into how they are made or found. Grasp the rare opportunity to go truffle hunting in Piedmonte. As well as tasting the produce, don’t forget to buy some goodies to take home in order to be able to re-create some of these wonderful flavours in your own kitchens. At meals taste the best regional wines that match the food. Gourmet tours don’t necessarily mean an endless stream of highclass restaurants – it can equally be excellent fresh, local produce prepared in a traditional way. activegourmetholidays.com gourmetontour.com

Whirlowbrook Hall wins South Yorkshire Wedding Venue of the Year again! Whirlowbrook Hall in Sheffield’s S11 has won Best South Yorkshire Wedding Venue, as awarded by WeddingDates, for the second year running. The award is based on customer feedback from wedding couples during the previous year. Saxon Hotels Ltd re-opened Whirlowbrook Hall in June 2013 after signing a 25-year lease with Sheffield City Council. After a refurbishment, the hall hosted its first wedding (pictured) during that summer. The award was first won in December 2013 after a very busy first year. The venue is becoming one of the area’s most sought-after wedding venues and bookings are being taken as far out as 2018. Paul Brown, director of Saxon Hotels Ltd, said “We are delighted to have won this award for the second year running. There are some fantastic venues in South Yorkshire, so to have retained this award is wonderful. The icing on your day As the centre-piece of your wedding, getting your cake right should be high on your list of priorities. We spoke to expert designer Rachel Edwards.

F

rom finding the perfect dress to selecting the flowers and agonising over the seating plan, a lot of time and thought goes in to planning a wedding. And many things have changed since women first prepared a ‘bottom drawer’ for marriage. One of the key parts of the big day to undergo a transformation has to be the wedding cake. Traditionally a fruitcake with marzipan and royal icing, wedding cakes now come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours with intricate designs and themes. Some couples choose to have two cakes (think ‘his and hers’ for mismatched tastes) and many now have a different type of cake for each tier with fruitcake, chocolate, lemon, coffee and vanilla to name just a few of the combinations. Once relegated to a corner of the room while everyone enjoyed the party, these beautiful works of sugar art now take centre stage at a wedding reception. It has become increasingly popular to follow the American trend of having a dessert table, where the cake is surrounded by other desserts such as cupcakes, cookies or sweets, which are intended to dress the cake and enhance the whole experience. But how do you design the perfect wedding cake? A professional cake designer takes the time to get to know every client, in order to create a truly bespoke cake. They usually start with a consultation to get to know the couple and tap in to their likes, tastes and thoughts for the wedding. Award-winning cake designer Rachel Edwards explains: “A couple will have usually already chosen a colour theme for their wedding and might have also organised the flowers and chosen a wedding dress, so they will have an idea of what they are looking for. “They usually bring a scrapbook or sketches with them or many like to show me their ideas on Pinterest. It is really important to get to know the couple so that you can create the right cake for them. I never repeat my designs so each cake is completely unique,

SOUTHSIDE 24

Words: Hannah Pearson Photography: www.shoot-lifestyle.co.uk which makes my job very interesting.” Rachel’s favourite clients are those who have a general idea of what they would like but give her complete freedom and artistic licence to interpret their vision and bring it to life. “One of my favourite designs was a duck egg blue wedding cake with delicate beading. It really was something different. The colour was gorgeous and the cake was designed to be the bride’s ‘something blue’. It was also made in an unusual oval shape to resemble a vintage jewellery box. “For another wedding cake, I had my first attempt at making sugar orchids. They are so tricky but when you get them right they look stunning. People couldn’t believe they weren’t real flowers!” It is hard to believe that someone so talented stumbled across a career in cake design by mistake. Rachel initially trained as an interior designer but after having children she wanted a career where she could work from home. “I was at my son’s play group one afternoon when I noticed a cake decorating book on the side. I thought it would be a nice idea to make his birthday cake so I had a look and chose a Thomas the Tank Engine design. “I phoned The Sheffield College that same day and the following week I started a course in cake decorating! It was a dream come true.” With natural talent and an eye for design, Rachel completed the course with distinctions in cake decoration and sugar flowers and went on to gain an NVQ level three in patisserie. Before she knew it she had built up a successful business and enviable reputation. “I gain the majority of my business through recommendations, so trust and reputation is very important in this industry. I love what I do and I think that comes across. I want every cake to be perfect. I won’t sleep at night if I don’t think it’s right.” Rachel has been featured in national

wedding publications, including photo shoots in Cosmopolitan Bride and Brides magazines, and she has been commissioned to demonstrate new products and ideas for global company Dr. Oetker. She is proud to have worked closely with Chatsworth House for the past five years and she is one of their recommended wedding suppliers. Her cake designs even featured in the BBC documentary ‘Chatsworth’. People travel from near and far to get married in the picturesque Peak District and there is no better venue than the stunning stately home. One couple came all the way from Texas and Rachel was selected to make the cake of their dreams. “It was an extravagant ceremony, with the bride arriving in a horse drawn carriage and the whole family travelled from America to stay in Chatsworth for a week. “Their cake was very intricate with lots of sugar ruffles and they had a dessert table with cake and cookie pops. “The bride had her heart set on having the wedding at Chatsworth and they were the first couple ever to be granted permission to hold their wedding breakfast and have their photos taken in the grand rooms.” Chatsworth House’s wedding fairs are also the perfect place for Rachel to showcase her exceptional talents. The next fair will take place on Saturday 28 February and Sunday 1 March, along with the launch of a new wedding marquee. Rachel has the honour of being chosen to exhibit a wedding cake in the marquee. Her cake will be decorated with a beautiful wild flower design as she is well-known for her exceptional sugar flowers. As her business has grown, Rachel now has her own shop Oh Sugar! By Rachel Edwards, which sells all types of cake decorating equipment and supplies. And if you are interested in learning a new skill, Rachel holds cake decorating classes at Oh Sugar! that are suitable for all abilities. Go to www.ohsugarsheffield.co.uk for more information.

Meeting Peter Andre was 'insania', say consultants A group of Slimming World consultants says meeting singer and TV presenter Peter Andre was the perfect way to get set for a superslimming start to 2015. The team, who run weekly Slimming World groups in Dronfield, was thrilled to get a chance to cuddle up to Peter when he cohosted the Slimming World Awards with the organisation’s chair and founder Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE. Peter said: “I’ve always tried to take care of myself and watch my weight. However, since becoming a dad I’ve realised it’s about more than just looking good; it’s much more

important to me that I’m fit and healthy and setting a good example to my children. “At the awards I met lots of people who’ve lost incredible amounts of weight and it has completely transformed their lives – and their families’ lives too. And every single one of them told me that they couldn’t have made those changes without the support of their Slimming World group and their consultant, so the people who run the groups

are clearly very important.” To power up your weight loss in 2015, visit www.slimmingworld.com or call 0844 897 8000 to find your nearest Slimming World group.

Survey shows doctors caring for terminally ill oppose assisted dying

Oliver Parnell has become the new head chef of The Red Lion at Peak Edge

A survey of members of the Association for Palliative Medicine (APM) confirms there is firm opposition to the Assisted Dying Bill. The APM’s members are doctors who specialise in the care of terminally ill patients and The Assisted Dying Bill states that terminally ill, mentally competent adults should be able to request life-ending medication from a doctor. APM President and Ashgate Hospicecare consultant Dr David Brooks welcomed the results, saying: “Terminally ill people need care and support from their doctors not encouragement to commit suicide.” The survey showed that a majority of respondents (82 per cent) do not support a change in the law on assisted suicide, confirming a similar finding in a recent survey by the Royal College of Dr David Brooks Physicians (RCP). Dr Brooks said: “Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals working for Ashgate Hospicecare dedicate their working lives to helping patients with incurable illness live as well as they can for as long as they can. We accept where death is imminent, and help them to live those dying days in as much comfort and dignity as possible. People need to be confident that the doctor is there to care for them whatever happens, not to kill them.”

Artists produce artwork for hospice in memory of Alison Two local artists have dedicated artwork to a north Derbyshire hospice where their friend was cared for Adrienne and Langley Brown were asked to create a piece of artwork by their friend Francis Creed, whose wife Alison was cared for at Ashgate Hospicecare. Alison suffered from cancer and spent time at the hospice before passing away in 2013. Francis wanted to fulfil her wish to have more art in the hospice. Adrienne and Langley created a mixed media piece named Celebrations. It incorporates objects, photographs, notes and stories provided by hospice patients, families, staff and volunteers and is based around themes inspired by Alison’s life and work. These include a sense of place, communication and celebration.

SS Property Mark Ross

Julie Bulheller

Peter Lee

It’s coming!

Redbrik – the region’s fast growing estate agency – is opening its third branch at the Crystal Peaks shopping centre.

I

n less than two years Redbrik has created quite an impact. Launched on Glumangate in Chesterfield in January 2013 to serve the historic market town and the villages of North Derbyshire, Redbrik efficiently and quickly became a favourite for sellers and purchasers alike. A second office in the Millhouses area of Sheffield opened last year and has proved a big success. So it is a logical next step for Redbrik to head to the south east of the city. Director Mark Ross, who founded Redbrik with co-director Julie Bulheller, said: “We already have properties in this area of Sheffield, clients and applicants have been demanding we bring our style of agency to the area. So we are answering that demand.” The branch at the flourishing Crystal Peaks shopping centre will have the same style that has become synonymous with the Redbrik brand, mixing vintage and contemporary furniture to create a stylish, welcoming office that has a homely and approachable feel. Expected to open in March, the branch is conveniently located in the Central Atrium (next to Thomas Cook) and will be best accessed from the main car park. Heading up operations will be Peter Lee (above), who has just joined Redbrik. Peter’s almost 20 years’ experience in the property business has seen him become a partner at Blundells and, for the last three years, a hugely respected area director for Countrywide Estate Agencies with

SOUTHSIDE 34

responsibility for Yorkshire and the North East. Now his understanding of the local area, wide ranging property knowledge and desire for exceptional customer service, which puts the needs of his clients first, is set to benefit Redbrik customers. Approachable, resourceful and above all very friendly with a strong commitment to people, Peter has worked across the entire property spectrum helping people realise their property ambitions in residential sales, lettings, new homes, as well as in working with investors and developers. Peter said: “I am very excited at the prospect of helping Redbrik to be even more successful for its customers and clients.” For Mark and Julie the launch and subsequent success of Redbrik is testament to their judgement. The pair, both experienced in the competitive world of estate agency, had decided it was the right time to fill a gap in the market for an independent agency which had customer’s needs at its heart, rather than sales targets. At its core – an honest, jargon-free approach underpinned by great customer service and innovative marketing. Redbrik broke new ground, achieving phenomenal growth in a saturated market. Mark, Julie and fellow director Michael Parry (who joined the business last March to run the thriving Millhouses branch) have identified that, in the competitive market place, agents need to differentiate in ways that would benefit the customer.

Redbrik offers stunning lifestyle inspired professional images of properties to complement clearly written and designed marketing literature. SS Motoring

Mazda’s SUV has got soul Bring forth Mazda’s first crossover SUV – the CX-3. Striking isn’t it? That’s because, like all Madzas these days, it incorporates the company’s KODO ‘soul of motion’ design. There’ll be a 2.0-litre petrol engine with two power outputs available or a 1.5-litre diesel. All engines incorporate fuel efficient SKYACTIV technology. A choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic will be offered as well as two or all-wheel drive versions. It will go on sale mid-way through the year.

Infiniti moves into hatchback market Infiniti – Nissan’s luxury division – has decided to build a premium hatch to compete against the VW Golf, Audi A3, BMW 1-Series and Mercedes A-Class. Due late this year, the Infiniti Q30 – which was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show as a concept – takes design cues from conventional hatchbacks, crossovers and coupes to make it stand out from the crowd. It’ll be built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant but, ironically, it’ll be built on the same platform as the Mercedes A-Class as well as borrowing the German’s 2.0litre petrol and diesel engines. Expect a price of £20,000.

Jordan Cutforth looks into his crystal ball to see what 2015 has in store for the motoring world.

Mirai will go 300 miles on a tank…of hydrogen

Skoda’s new Fabia comes fully loaded The hotly anticipated new Skoda Fabia landed this January with an asking price of £10,600. This may seem slightly expensive, but there’s loads of standard equipment including Bluetooth, DAB digital radio and engine stop/start. Engines available will be a 1.0 litre petrol with either 59 or 74bhp, a 108bhp 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4 litre diesel with outputs of 89bhp or 104bhp. A Greenline turbodiesel will be offered later, which will return up to 91mpg. Practicality is great with 330 litres of boot space. If you want more, there’s an estate version boasting 530 litres, which is due in March.

SOUTHSIDE 48

Arriving in September, the Toyota Mirai will be the first mainstream car to be powered by hydrogen since the Honda FCX. The benefit of using hydrogen is that a hydrogen fuel-cell produces its own electricity, which in turn powers the car rather than getting the electricity from the mains which produces CO2. Toyota predicts the Mirai will achieve 300 miles on a full fill-up. That’s much greater than electric-only cars. They also say it’ll be an ‘exhilarating drive’ with its low centre of gravity and 153bhp. Expect a price tag upwards of £60,000.

Mustang set to make its debut Ford’s global marketing strategy of ‘one-size fits all’ for its cars is definitely apparent here because from the autumn, you will finally be able to take delivery of a righthand drive Ford Mustang – a first for Britain. It’ll come with either a 5.0-litre V8 producing 420bhp and 400lb ft of torque or – for the first time in a Mustang – a four-cylinder, 2.3-litre EcoBoost unit producing 310bhp and 320lb ft of torque. You can spec either with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Expect prices to start around £29,000 for the EcoBoost and a £4,000 premium hike for the V8.

Horsepower – the Ford Mustang is coming to Britain

SS Chesterfield Champions

New projects mean the future is bright, says Peter Swallow, Chair of Destination Chesterfield.

T

he team at Destination Chesterfield have worked tirelessly to put Chesterfield on the national investment map since the project was launched in 2011. However, none other than the Prime Minister David Cameron succeeded in putting our town on the global map recently. During his tour of America, where he held meeting various meetings with President Obama, Mr Cameron announced that a partnership between a UK development company and US firm Grand Heritage Hotel Group will deliver the £400 million Peak Resorts development on the edge of Chesterfield, incorporating the former Birch Hall Golf Course. Never have the benefits of Chesterfield’s proximity to the Peak District National Park been more fully realised than with this announcement. The proposed investment by the US firm Grand Heritage Hotel Group will put the town on the international map and I am confident Chesterfield will reap the domino effect of this investment far beyond the

construction phase. Already the town’s unemployment figures are at the lowest they have been since records began, and all the indications are that the situation can only get even better. During the construction phase of Peak Resorts it is envisaged that hundreds of jobs will be created/protected and when the resort opens it is reported that there will be a further 1,300 full-time equivalent jobs. These jobs are being created by the Peak Resorts in isolation and we must not forget the positive knock-on effects to the town’s economy. Increased employment will result in more money circulating in the town. People will most likely move to the area for employment, whether it is short-term contractors or permanent residents. They all need somewhere to stay/live, amenities to use, and potentially schools for their children. It’s the same story less than a mile along the A61at the Chesterfield Waterside development. The 16 hectare £340m development, is ranked at number 47 in the top 100 list of the UK's largest regeneration projects and will bring new homes, retail

units and offices to Chesterfield over the next 10 years. Work will start on site at the Peak Resorts site later this year. The commencement of the construction phase of both Peak Resorts and Chesterfield Waterside is no time for complacency in the town, we cannot simply sit back and await their completion. Right now residents, retailers and developers have an excellent opportunity to capitalise on these important projects and make Chesterfield the best it can be to ensure a positive lasting impression for all visitors. One thing’s for certain, there really will be cause for celebration at this year’s Celebrate Chesterfield event on Wednesday 25 March at the Winding Wheel.
