Totally TROPICAL

Honeymoon trends come and go but 2025 looks like seeing a return to tradition – think sea, sunshine and a slice of paradise.

Maldives

When you picture your dream honeymoon, no doubt the Maldives is close to the top of your list. These islands in the Indian Ocean take pride in being one of the most romantic places on Earth. Watercolour sunsets, shimmering lagoon waters, the gentle lilt of a trickling waterfall... the natural features of the Maldives will stir the senses and enhance any couples’ holiday by adding a certain intimacy to your stay.

Mauritius

Another Indian Ocean destination, Mauritius hits the spot for idyllic beaches and crystal-clear waters. Beyond that, adventurous couples can explore stunning national parks, botanical gardens, rum factories and Port Louis, one of the best cities in the world for street food. Spend days diving, exploring lively local markets, sampling the fabulous food and swoop through canyons and hike volcanoes on nearby La Reunion island.

Seychelles

The Seychelles is a popular honeymoon Indian Ocean (are you spotting a theme?) destination known for its beautiful coastline, luxurious resorts, and romantic atmosphere. As is common with its location, white beaches, turquoise waters and palm trees come

watersports and a stunning array of hotels, perfect for newly-wed couples to truly get away from it all.

Thailand

The south-east Asian country is known for its opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins and ornate temples but it’s Thailand’s islands – and tropical beaches – that are a big draw for honeymooners. In the Krabi province alone, there are 100 miles’ worth of beaches, many of which are backed by photogenic rock formations. In the Khao Lak area, the sands get swallowed up by national parks a few hundred metres from the shoreline while the crowdless beaches in Mai Khao let you live incognito.

Kenya

anyone heading here generally does so for one reason – safari. The Maasai Mara is the continent’s most famous wildlife reserve and has rolling grasslands and wide open savannah where big cats and the Big Five roam. There are accommodations to suit all tastes but a magical hot-air balloon safari is a must; gently drift over the plains at sunrise as wildlife roams below you.

Tahiti

Another tropical paradise, Tahiti is located in the South honeymooners from all corners of the globe. Island-hopping has and it’s recommended to combine at least two, if not three, if time allows. Picture perfect scenery combining rugged mountains, untouched coral, white sands and azure blue waters will cloud your vision for miles around.

Costa Rica

Honeymoons aren’t always about relaxing and Costa Rica

good choice of places to stay – from safari-style glamping to ecolodges extraordinaire – that all provide peaceful retreats, often with luxurious touches.

The central American country has coasts on two oceans providing unforgettable sunsets on the beach as well as lush rainforests, misty volcanoes, and amazing wildlife. Activities including rafting, kayaking, jungle trekking and diving are also all on offer.

South Africa

If you’re looking to combine adventure and luxury on your postwedding break, South Africa has something for everyone, from safaris in the Kruger National Park to wine tasting in Franschhoek. Sandwiched between the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and Table Mountain, Cape Town attracts more visitors than any other place in Africa, with its natural setting, cosmopolitan culture and Mediterranean climate providing the appeal. Scaling Table Mountain – by foot or cable car – rewards you with panoramic views over the mountains, city and both oceans. You can also explore Cape Town’s turbulent history with a historical tour and a visit to Robben Island.

Bali

Lush, laid-back and gloriously scenic, Bali combines its legendary white sands and big surf with a rich tapestry of

with traditional music and dance, elaborate ceremonies, and gamelan concerts everywhere you go. It’s a place synonymous with tranquillity and pleasure.

Braving the ELEMENTS

There’s more to a winter break than skiing. Pete Thompson complements Alpine snow with a trip to a spa as well as a cold-water swim.

With a rapidly soaring heart rate as my body temperature plummets, I’m told “this shows you’re the boss.”

I was battling to manage my breathing after suffering a sharp shock to the system on a freezing winter morning in the Giffre Valley.

There were many moments during this amazing trip to the beautiful Haute-Savoie Mont Blanc region that had taken my breath away – but nothing quite like this.

experience of cold-water swimming in the charming village of Morillon.

Wearing merely swimming shorts and a woolly hat, I tentatively step into the unknown Baltic waters of Lac Bleu along with two fellow hardy Brits.

Slowly immersing myself in the 6.5-degree water with more than a hint of trepidation, I’m reminded of the prebathing breathing techniques briefed

by amiable Swede Asa and cold-water swimming champion Arnaud.

As my heart thuds at an increasing rate of knots and I feel a numbing sensation with my shoulders under the water, Asa nods while assuring me I am winning a big battle of mind over matter.

The Speedo-wearing Arnaud tells us to in circle, so I put a brave face on while focusing with a steely determination as my body acclimatises.

After a few minutes, Asa informs us we can get back on dry land after passing a big test of mental strength.

The reward was to don a huge warm jacket before wandering up to the haven of Asa’s Bastu74 – a lakeside mobile sauna fuelled by a wood-burning stove.

My body tingles in the heat of the sauna while I peer out at the tranquil lake under clear blue skies.

After around 15 minutes in the heat, it

was time to head back out into the cold water for another short dip.

I brace myself, but this time knowing my body could cope and after gazing up at the majestic mountains after breaking into a brief breaststroke I am soon back in the sauna – this time smiling like I meant it. swim to wash off the sweat, I’m totally revitalised - feeling the mental and physical increase in popularity.

Just 24 hours earlier, I didn’t think I could be more refreshed after visiting the unique heavenly Thermal Baths in Saint Gervais.

Staring skywards while lying back in the purest, bubbling heated water in several outdoor pools at the foot of Mont Blanc I could not be any more relaxed after unwinding in a range steam rooms and saunas.

With a clear head after a dreamy wellness

“Staring skywards while lying back in the purest, bubbling heated water in several outdoor pools at the foot of Mont Blanc I could not be any more relaxed after unwinding in a range steam rooms and saunas.”

experience, I look down on the Thermal Baths from a recently-opened Le Valléen cable car while heading up for an afternoon of skiing in Saint Gervais.

Raring to go after a lovely lunch at the side of the slopes in la Fleche d’Or, I hurtle down a mixture of cruisy blue runs and gentle greens as Mont Blanc appears from the clouds.

Marvelling at the jaw-dropping peaks with the sun beating down while descending wide slopes, it strikes me I could not have asked for a better day – with a combination of putting my feet up and getting the pulse racing in the freshest of air.

Then I was treated a sumptuous dinner in the luxurious Le M de Megève hotel, where I sampled the most fabulous fondue courtesy of a ‘cheesemaker’ Thomas.

A ‘fromelier’ rather than a ‘sommelier’, Thomas showcased the novel Les Grands

Crus de Fondues concept by selecting the finest cheese from the region, combined with fine wine such as Chignin Vieilles Vignes.

The service was every bit as good as the cuisine in the most elegant surroundings that you could to expect in classy Megève – where I stayed at the homely L’Arboisie Hotel.

I also experienced culinary delights at picturesque Lake Annecy – a stunning part of the world I could never tire of visiting.

While the majority of my fellow diners feasted on the famous raclette in the atmospheric Le Freti restaurant, I opted for a tasty alternative Diot and Pormonier sausage dish that proved to be a shrewd choice.

The following morning, I gazed out at captivating Lake Annecy from the balcony of my spacious room at the idyllic Hôtel Les Trésoms.

I had started my jaunt to HauteSavoie Mont Blanc with another first – the opportunity to watch an enthralling Biathlon World Cup race in Grand Bornand.

Around 11,000 spectators – some in fancy dress while ringing cow bells –created a lively atmosphere while the best male athletes on the planet gave an exhibition of their incredible cross-country skiing and shooting skills.

Norwegian Martin Uldal won the tenkilometre sprint race at the Sylvie Becaert Biathlon Stadium, a venue for the 2030 Winter Olympics.

He was not the only one who showed he was the boss.

Charles was referred to me through another Which Trusted Trader. He popped around straight away to check the water leak and do an initial diagnosis. We agreed a start date and Charles arrived and did all the investigations, cutting through the ceiling to access underneath the shower unit. The leak turned out to come from two places and required Charles to do a couple of visits, repairs and tests to fully resolve. Then the job was finished off with a lovely replastered ceiling. Really good communication, very thoughtful, and pleasant to work with. A true professional.

Which? Review - South Yorkshire

I found Charles on a website, got two quotes one for him and one from another builder for the job I wanted, even though Charles was a bit more expensive he sounded like a good bloke and gave me good feeling that he was capable of doing a good job, I struck gold with him. He first did a kitchen installation and a months later he did the complete bathroom. He and his apprentice were always on time and were very friendly. Cleaned up every day before the left. Would recommend him!

The Functional Medicine model evolved from the insights and perspectives of a group of influential scientific leaders who realised the importance of a personalised approach to disease causes based on the evolving research in nutritional science, genomics, and epigenetics.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Functional medicine gives Dr Hula the clinical decisionmaking tools they need to navigate the landscape of illness by exploring all relevant mechanisms. Your personal treatment plan is backed by scientific research. Part of this research involves selecting the most appropriate tests to get the best possible results relevant to you.

Among those taking part this year is Mick Ellison, who is walking in memory of his wife of 46 years, Linda.

Mick said: “I’d encourage anyone thinking about taking part in the High Peak Trail Walk to just go for; you’ll have a wonderful time and be raising vital funds for such an important cause.”

Rachel has been a St Luke’s nurse for the past nine years and is now part of the St Luke’s Learning and Development team, focusing on teaching and developing the charity’s clinical staff so they can continue delivering the best possible care to patients.

“St Luke’s has become such an integral part of my life - it’s not just a place to work,” she said.

“I’ve met extraordinary people, witnessed the profound impact of our care and felt the strength of a truly special community.

“That’s why I decided to take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for a cause so close to my heart.”

Every year, St Luke’s needs to raise £10.5million of the £14million it costs to run its full range of patient and family services.

The celebrated Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes participants through the stunning Yorkshire scenery of the Dales National Park, a 26-mile and 12-hour route that takes in Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent, a total ascent of 1,585 metres!

“I knew taking on the Three Peaks Challenge would be tough but I wanted to push myself, step out of my comfort zone and join an incredible team of fundraisers, each with their own reasons for supporting St Luke’s,” Rachel said.
