At David J Martin customers are welcomed into the firm’s on-site workshop, to see their furniture come to life.

“People often don’t believe that the workshop is here, under the showroom” said owner David Martin. “Then we bring them downstairs and they’re blown away.”

There’s a team of eight, highly trained carpenters working on kitchen cabinets and islands, bedroom furniture, desks and study furniture, each one made unique to order.

David himself is a carpenter by trade, training for years before completing a degree in the subject. He ensures his staff are trained to the highest standard, resulting in the finest quality products. Everything at David J Martin happens under one roof, so David himself can check the quality and finish of each product at every stage of the process.

“Our attention to detail is second to none and this makes us stand out from the crowd,” said David. “We are not held to ransom by mass-produced products as we make everything from scratch – even down to making our own cutters for producing mouldings.”

After an initial customer consultation, when David will discuss budgets and offer expert design advice, the cabinetmakers work from plans drawn by David and create bespoke furniture, which can be sprayed to high gloss or satin finishes using durable Two Pac paint.

With larger companies, you will often see doors advertised as having a ‘high-gloss finish’. This means that they are vinylwrapped and, although this does produce a shiny look, it means that you will be able to see the joins.

David J Martin’s professional sprayer can apply any colour you wish in their paintspraying booth, giving a modern finish with no joins. That means water cannot seep in and cause peeling – something that can happen

with vinyl-wrapped doors. Everything is done in-house, which enables David to guarantee high quality at every stage.

For chefs and restaurateurs across the region, being singled out for praise in our awards is a sure sign that they are hitting all the right culinary notes.

The winners of all categories, including the coveted Restaurant of the Year title, will be

announced on the night. As this issue goes to press, our judges are doing their final assessments of the region’s finest restaurants, and are about to make their decisions in the various categories.

It can impact on any part of the body affecting approximately 300,000 people a year in the UK. The main treatment for cancer is a combination of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Often these treatments, alongside the cancer itself, can cause nasty side effects and symptoms. These can include muscle and joint pain, fatigue, reduced exercise tolerance and range of movement that can often affect people years after their treatment has finished.

So how can physiotherapy help?

There is a wealth of evidence that shows physiotherapy has an influence in improving quality of life for people with cancer.

Exercise plays an important role in improving both quality of life and the overall health of an individual. Regardless of the stage of the disease or site of the tumour, exercise is a key element towards alleviation of symptoms and promotion of active recovery.

The overall aim of physiotherapy is to help address symptoms such as breathlessness, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, lymphoedema

fter months of hard work from both pupils and their teachers, thousands of young people in schools throughout Chesterfield are now facing their GCSE and A-Level exams.

The immediate future of many young people is often dependent on the outcome of their exams, whether thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s university, an apprenticeship or traineeship. Whatever route they take, young people need to know that they have a career here in their home town, and they have one immediately if they want to pursue an apprenticeship.

Apprentices are the backbone of Chesterfieldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s economy, they are our workforce and business leaders of the future.

Currently there are more than 4,000 people participating in apprenticeships in Chesterfield and this figure will grow further as more investors move in to the local market.

It was only last year that a former apprentice James Greatorex, who won the Young Chef of the Year accolade at the 2015 Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards, landed his dream job at the world-renowned restaurant, â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;The Fat Duckâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; in Berkshire which is owned by celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal.

More young talent like Jamesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s will be recognised in the 2017 Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards, which return for the fifth consecutive year. The Young Chef of the Year category is one of my favourites in these prestigious awards, alongside Best Newcomer, each year the awards remind me how much talent, drive and passion there is in the town.

The success of these awards, however, is down to you.
