Our process

Stage 1: Consultation

If you are updating an existing space, one of our designers will survey your property. If you already have plans of the new space, we would invite you to bring them into the showroom. We would talk through your vision and discuss everything, from appliances, worktops, colours, to styles of doors.

Stage 3: Order

We will conduct a final site survey to double check all measurements, and once you are completely happy with the design, the order will be placed.

Every great design starts with a vision. Let’s find yours.

Stage 2: Design

Next, we will start designing your dream kitchen, taking into account everything we have learnt about you, your vision, and your space. We’ll then invite you back into our showroom to talk through the design

Stage 4: Delivery

As soon as we know when your kitchen will be ready, we will get in touch to organise an installation date that works for you. We will ensure a smooth seamless delivery and install of your dream kitchen.

British painters of the last century. This summer, a new exhibition at 21 paintings and works on paper to celebrate her remarkable 60-year career.

For more than six decades, Tess Jaray has dedicated her artistic practice to the exploration of form and space her interests in Italian Renaissance and Islamic architecture, and her exploration with pattern, repetition and colour, Jaray’s work dismantles once recognisable forms, reconstructing and articulating them as pure, abstract shapes.

Jaray says of her practice: “I see pattern as seeing the expression of what is in the world, and what is in oneself. There is pattern in everything, in a sense, and of course the repetition of anything creates pattern. Some see it as being formalistic, I don’t. Our lives are patterned; our lives are framed.”

The nominations for the 2024 Westside Restaurant &

fter three successful consecutive years, the Westside & Southside Bar & Restaurant Awards has settled comfortably into its new location at the OEC – Owlerton Events & Conferencing.

This year’s event, which takes place on Monday 28 October, will be the fourth time we have held the event here and if the previous years are anything to go by, 2024’s ceremony is going to be another fantastic affair.

Rewinding back to last year, over 200 people packed out the Hillsborough venue, which opened in late 2019 and hosts a range of impressive multi-purpose suites with catering for up to 500 guests, a perfect setting for weddings, dinners, balls, conferences, live events and more. It

well organised, the service was faultless throughout the evening ensuring that the awards ran smoothly and without a hitch. When it came to the 2023 Westside & Southside Restaurant & Bar Awards, competition was keen of course, and we were delighted at how many local

restaurants, bars and cafes entered into the festivities. It was fantastic to see all of the nominees together in one room, celebrating the superb quality of independent eateries found in our region and beyond.

One of our most popular awards on the night is the Readers’ Choice Award, voted of entries and after a close call between The Maynard, The George and The Wortley scooped the prize for the second year in over 700 votes.

Each of our 22 winners received an engraved plaque, which were presented on the night by publishing managers Mandy Ogle and Sally-Anne Sharp and publishing director Amanda Roy.

Here’s a reminder to all restaurant, hotel, café and pub owners: to make sure your establishment is under consideration for the 2024 Westside Restaurant & Bar Awards, contact publishing manager Sam Warsop at sam.warsop@rmcmedia.co.uk

Stepping through the neon-lit doors is like stepping into another world, one that is dominated by the spin of the roulette wheel, the placing of cards and the jingle from the digital slot machines. Ashbourne

The village has two popular pubs, a café and local shop. The village has a railway station on one of England’s most spectacular two camping sites in Edale as well as others in outlying ‘booths’.

Heart and SOUL

Vibrant Liverpool makes for a great getaway - and Richard Abbey may have found the perfect hotel from which to explore.

etting away for a few days is good for the body, mind and soul, whether you’re looking for something calm and tranquil or for something with a bit more life. Switching off from the stresses of work and home is essential to our wellbeing – but where to go?

Whilst a quiet country retreat might sound idyllic, and certainly has its place, you can’t beat the buzz of a big city and they don’t come much more vibrant than Liverpool.

Since being named the European Capital of Culture in 2008 the city has transformed and is the perfect location for a short break, whether you’re travelling with friends or family. There’s so much to see and do.

To explore the best the city has to offer you’ll need a good base and The Halyard, which opened in the Ropewalks area of the city in March, ticks all the right boxes for location, luxury and comfort and has a very good bar and restaurant too.

The Halyard is part of IHG Hotels &

hotel in the UK to open under this banner. This collection is part of IHG’s growing Luxury & Lifestyle and these characteristics were present all over the property.

The Halyard has 133 bedrooms of which there are three different types and its identity is anchored in Liverpool’s maritime heritage. The building stands on the footprint of a former 18th century rope-making warehouse and its name comes from a nautical term for a rope knot. The interiors are beautifully crafted with industrial elegance complemented by vibrant colours, a nod to the city’s

abundance all over the city.

Our rooms were spacious and had all the little luxuries that enhance your stay just that little bit more, including coffee machines, complimentary drinks fridges,

robes and slippers, and Temple Spa toiletries. We loved the layout with the sink and dressing area separate to the bathroom and dividing ‘wardrobe’ which separated the room creating a distinct bedroom area.

In addition to the 133 bedrooms The Halyard has two meeting rooms for business guests as well as a rooftop gym with Peloton bikes and views over the city.

Perhaps most impressive is the 200-seater bar, lounge and restaurant which are open to all and serves globally-inspired dishes with a local twist, a great selection of organic and natural wines, plus signature cocktails, some of which are made from locallydistilled gin.

Voyagers, as the restaurant is known, is headed up by head chef Jake Parry who serves up a dinner menu of small and large plates, plus all-day dining options and afternoon tea.

If you’re travelling with family there was also a decent children’s menu.

Away from the hotel, a short walk brings you to Liverpool ONE, which is home to 170 shops, bars, restaurants and leisure experiences, including the huge Gravity Max. arena. There’s also a huge roof terrace, two bars and lots of food options. We tried the bowling and golf, which we really enjoyed, and my children loved the gaming arcade, even managing to win a Minion on one of the ‘grabbers’.

Not too far away is the famous Royal Albert Dock, Mersey Ferry Terminal and museums – the Museum of Liverpool, International Slavery Museum and Maritime Museum – as well as the Tate Gallery and The Beatles Story. The Dock is well worth a visit and also a great spot to hop on one of the open top bus tours; a great and informative way to see some of the city’s best sights.

The Beatles, and music in general, feature heavily throughout the city and it’s worth exploring the Cavern Walks as well as the Ropewalks area close to The Halyard, which is the vibrant heart of the city’s cultural scene. Centred around Bold

restaurants and music venues as well as independent and vintage shops as well as galleries and art spaces.

I can’t say our break was relaxing but see and do in what we felt was a city with real heart and atmosphere. And The Halyard is right in the thick of it.

Explore ECCLESALL

Maeve Burrell marvels at Ecclesall Road, the ‘Golden Mile’ in Europe’s greenest city.

The area of Ecclesall has changed dramatically over the last 250 years – it’s shrunk in size but increased dramatically in terms of housing and population.

At the end of the 18th century, Ecclesall stretched all the way from just below Ringinglow right down to Cambridge Street in the city centre, then known as Coal Pit Lane.

There has never been an actual village of Ecclesall, more a collection of small hamlets, isolated farms and cottages with various small industrial works and mills along the Sheaf and Porter.

It was in the later 19th century that Ecclesall started to develop as a residential suburb. By this time the industrial revolution was in full swing and huge factories powered by coal and steam were being built in the Don Valley. With the prevailing south-westerly wind, the pollution from the factories was blown north-east so the more well-off workers, managers and company owners tended to

the areas being Ecclesall.

Moving into the 20th century and the horrors of war came to the area when a number of high-explosive bombs fell. Then, on 22 February 1944, Mi Amigo, an American Army Air Force B17 crashed in Endcliffe Park as it tried to make its way back to base after a bombing mission to Denmark. None of the crew survived and

As one of Europe’s greenest cities,

its main ones in the Ecclesall area –Millhouses Park, Endcliffe Park and the Botanical Gardens.

Millhouses, which covers almost 32 acres, was created in 1859 and over time has been home to a boating lake, open-air swimming pool, paddling pools, cricket pitch, bowling greens and tennis courts, many of which still remain today.

Endcliffe Park opened in 1887 to commemorate the Jubilee of Queen Victoria and features three monuments dedicated to the long-standing monarch.

Just off Ecclesall Road, the Botanical

Gardens opened in 1836 and initially required an entrance fee to visit. They are perhaps best known for the ‘Paxton Pavilions’, which were designed by Taylor.

In 1962 an aviary was opened in the central pavilion and housed over 300 foreign birds including budgerigars,

was joined by an aquarium in 1964 but both eventually closed in 1991 after an outbreak of disease amongst the birds.

Now Grade II* listed, the pavilions were refurbished and reopened in 2003.

The bear pit was also an original feature of the Botanical Gardens and still draws visitors today, although there is some doubt about its exact use. Bears are said to have been there until around 1870; today the only bear you’ll see is ‘Robert’, who is eight-feet tall and made of steel.

Ecclesall has had its fair share of royal visitors over the years. The Duchess of Kent formally opened the day unit of St Luke’s Hospice in 1975 and was later visited by the Prince and Princess of Wales (1984). Princess Anne also visited Whirlow Hall Farm in 1980.

With industrial decline in the city, the two universities expanded into the area and many students made the area the home. A

campus is on Collegiate Crescent but the area is easily accessible for both institutions.

Today, the main stretch of Ecclesall Road retains a real buzz with plenty of independent bars, restaurants and shops.

What is there?

New and exciting businesses seem to be popping up on ‘Eccy Road’ all the time, from chains to independent stores there is something for everyone. There are chilled cafes for lunch and just about every cultural cuisine you could want for dinner.

A vibrant street art scene is alive and well on the road, such as an impressive mural

a huge Phlegm mural just outside Dunkin’ Doughnuts - now that’s a contrast! There are trendy gyms for those who enjoy an alternative workout and irresistible independent shops and boutiques with a healthy amount of charity shops for the thrifting enthusiasts.

Things to do

Ecclesall Road is not only good for a night out or a wander, but there are plenty of activities for all ages to enjoy. Here are just

Endcliffe Park

Not only is this park perfect for lounging with a picnic on a summer’s day, but its popular playground and quaint café make relaxing with little ones an easy task. The park is also a starting point for a beautiful riverside walk where you can branch off to forge dam if it tickles your fancy.

back to the 19th century and have been providing a spectacular day out ever since. The glasshouse pavilions once housed an aviary, and aquarium and a 30ft lily pond, but now showcase botany from all over the world with helpful information posts all the way around.

The grade 2 listed structure of the ‘bear pit’ will surely excite any younger visitors since a 2.4m steel structure of a bear is standing there today, and happens to be

Furthermore, the gardens also regularly host events which make the most of the setting’s natural beauty, offering everything from theatre and dance to art, creative writing and artisan markets.

There are several chiropractors on site each day as well as massage therapists who work in conjunction with the chiropratic team. Massage is seen as being an imperative part of chiropractic treatment, as the soft tissue needs to be loosened before an adjustment.

The clinic is open six days a week – including Saturday mornings. Call 0114 267 0010 or visit

Future journey

Bentley Motors is proud to reveal the fourth generation Continental GT Speed, following in the 21-year tradition of the

ultimate blend of supercar performance, handcrafted luxury and everyday usability.

A comprehensive exterior and interior redesign with clean modern detailing follow the new design DNA established by the coachbuilt Bentley Bacalar and Batur. The new exterior continues the design revolution for Bentley’s future journey, with the biggest revision to the face of the Continental GT in two decades, and

headlamps since the 1950s.

Outstanding performance is brought by an all-new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain with 782 PS and 1,000 Nm, from a 4.0-litre V8 working in tandem with a 190 PS electric motor. This makes the fourth generation Continental GT Speed become the most powerful road-going Bentley ever created.

system gives the new BMW M5 a maximum output of 727 hp and a peak torque of 1,000 Nm. The combination of a high-revving V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor, plus power transfer courtesy of an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, enables acceleration of 0 to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Order books are open now with prices starting from £110,500.

Fast and furious

Two new top-of-the-range Volkswagen Golf models – the R and R Estate – will be the world’s fastest Volkswagen production models, alongside the Arteon R Shooting Brake.

The new R models have an impressive output of 245 kW (333 PS), which the powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged engine transmits to a seven-speed DSG and the 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. The latter improves driving stability and agility by distributing the drive power individually to the rear wheels to optimise cornering.

The new R models are based on the eighth generation of the Golf, which received a major update this year.
