Get into the seasonal spirit with this Halloween Harvest wreath from www.interflora.co.uk.
Autumn shades AS SUMMER FADES AWAY BRING THE NEW SEASON’S WARM TONES INTO YOUR HOME, SAYS PHOEBE SEYMOUR hat is there not to like about autumn? Yes – the nights are longer, but with crisp leaves in gorgeous hues of oranges, yellows and browns, there are plenty of warm colours around to brighten our days and inspire our homes. Bring the autumnal look indoors with leaf prints and warm shades, especially those items we tend to use more in the colder months such as thick blankets and teapots. If you are wanting to add a subtle touch of the season to your home, autumnal foliage and plants make for perfect centrepieces on tables, while wreaths with pumpkin detailing, can be kept hung up long after Halloween without looking dated. Love it or hate it, autumn is here. But don’t worry if you’re not keen on leaving the house; indoors is the new outdoors.

Many people reach retirement before they realise they have not made sufficient provisions. Here are 3 tips to avoid a shortfall:
1. Consider consolidating your pensions Consider consolidating your pensions to a single provider if you have more than one. This will make it easier from an administrative perspective as it means you’ll just have one account to log in to, one set of investments to check and one lot of charges to monitor. Before you do though, check if your existing plans come with any guarantees or exit fees.
2. Review the funds you hold in your pension schemes Billions of pounds are invested in underperforming funds but your provider may never have informed you how bad they are. As a member of a pension scheme, you have a right to be given certain information about what you have signed up to without having to ask for it. If you're in a defined benefit scheme, the scheme must send you, every year, a summary funding statement. This gives you important details about the ability of the scheme to pay the benefits due under the scheme.
3. Reunite yourself with your money If you have lost touch with your previous pension providers then the Pension Tracing Service is a great way to track down
their contact details. You need the name of an employer or a pension provider to use the service. It will provide you with the contact details for the provider however it won’t tell you whether you have a pension, or what its value is. Find out more at www.gov.uk. For an independent review of your pensions and the underlying funds, please contact us. Hamnett Wealth Management offer unbiased, expert financial planning advice. James Lewis of Bamfords
Two of the best ICONIC WAR HEROES EFFECTS AND PAINTINGS BY LEADING ARTIST GO UNDER THE HAMMER AT BAMFORDS SALE. ctober at Bamfords sees sale highlights of two twentieth century icons. The first, one of Derbyshire’s greatest living artists, the other the most famous British fighter pilot of all time. On 23 October 94-year-old Derby artist Terence Storey will be selling paintings for thef inal time. He can boast works of art in collections as diverse as those of the United Nations and The Royal Family’s. He painted his last picture earlier this year and his entire studio and gallery of works goes under the hammer, including Derbyshire scenes, marinescapes and others. The name Douglas Bader, along with the likes of Scott of the Antarctic, Donald Campbell and Florence Nightingale, is one that every school child knows, as a figure of great British heroism. The fighter pilot who
O
lost his legs in a tragic accident, aged 21, fought in the Battle of Britain wearing prosthetic limbs. Bamfords military sale on 31 October boasts a collection of Bader memorabilia, including a very personal and moving letter written from his hospital bed detailing the crash and the subsequent operations, together with photographs of the crash, Bader’s squadron flight ring, cigarette case, matchbox case and pages from an album of both personal and crash related photographs. This is part of a specialist Militaria sale where Bamfords are welcoming entries of weapons, medals, uniforms and other military related objects. If vendors wish to do so, they may donate all or part of their sale proceeds to SSAFA, Help for Heroes or the National Memorial Arboretum if they choose.

The team of mechanical monsters weighing over 80-tonnes performed a brand new routine in the Grand Ring. greeted visitors, exhibitors and performers around the showground: “I have visited Chatsworth Country Fair many times, and it is always a delight. It is an amazing day out for all the family in a magnificent setting. There is always a miscellany of spectacular events and demonstrations, brilliant trade stands and plenty of activities and experiences for the young.” From President to culinary expert, Mary also joined the star-studded line up of top TV food celebrities in the Stoves Cookery Demonstration Theatre. Always a crowd favourite, this year the theatre moved to a bigger and better location in front of the house, with live demos headlined by Nadiya Hussain on Friday, Mary Berry on Saturday and Paul Hollywood on Sunday. A total of 55 hot air balloons also set off
each day at dawn and dusk across the river Derwent and parkland providing a majestic sight across the countryside. As one of the country’s largest hot air balloon lifts, this year welcomed four special balloons in the shape of Ronald McDonald, a fire extinguisher, a red box and the balloon used during the promotion of the Disney film, ‘Up’. Dates for next year’s Chatsworth Country Fair have been confirmed as 30th, 31st August and 1st September 2019.

Keep your kids cosy at SNÜGG SCANDINAVIAN-THEMED CLOTHING FROM ECCLESALL ROAD’S NEWEST OUTLET WILL KEEP YOUR LITTLE ONES BANG ON-TREND. heffield mother-of-two Amy Cuttill owned holiday cottages in the Lake District before deciding to change pace and open SNÜGG. Finding herself restless as a stay-at-home mum, Amy knew she needed to find something she was passionate about and would keep her busy during the day. Drawing inspiration from the lives of her friends who live in Scandinavia, Amy decided that the Scandi way of life would be the perfect jumping off point for her new venture. Scandinavians are known for living by the Danish and Norwegian word ‘hygge’, for which there is no literal translation but we’ve come to understand as the sense of cosiness

and comfortable warmth that lends itself to feelings of wellness and contentment. It can be difficult to imagine such a sense of calm as many of us spend our days in and out of Sheffield’s busy city centre and bustling suburbs, but the products on offer at SNÜGG have been designed to help you create that same sense of hygge in your own home and family, and at least make your life that little bit simpler. Starting a new business venture is stressful for anyone and while Amy learned a lot from the business experience of her parents, who run a tourist attraction in the Lake District, Amy was adamant that she wanted to take on this project with no help – and it looks as though she’s doing just fine on her own. ‘I really struggle to find things to buy for my own children, let alone for things like gifts for special occasions,’ she said. Unlike High Street baby clothing stores, SNÜGG stocks tried, tested and trusted Scandinavian brands that may not yet sound familiar to us in the UK, but
are known for creating and providing top quality products. Alongside Scandinavian kids’ clothes, SNÜGG stocks traditional baby furniture and luxury sheep skin blankets, as well as toys and gifts for kids, all with a Scandi theme. Sourcing everything from Scandinavia hasn’t been an easy task, and Amy has been hard at work researching and putting together the perfect collection since the start of the year. Jetting off to Copenhagen twice, as well as travelling to Paris and London for trade shows, Amy learned an immense amount about the way of life and quality products that Nordic countries have to offer. Tracking down the perfect products for the store is all well and good, but what use would they be without a space to store and sell them in? Amy was on the hunt for a home for SNÜGG for what felt like forever before she found the ideal spot on Ecclesall Road. Sitting right next to Nonna’s, SNÜGG is in a great location within easy walking distance from Endcliffe Park and Sheffield Botanical Gardens, so if you’re on a stroll with your little one you’re more than welcome to pop in, pram and all, as they’ve got a ramp for easy access.

SNÜGG is beautifully decorated, and you can instantly see the hard work that has gone into creating Amy’s vision. The shop is deceptively large, with the space within the white walls filled with indoor plants, modern yet industrial lighting and copper poles from which the clothes hang on display. With books and building blocks on show and t-shirts, leggings and even dressing gowns on offer in a wide range of colours and patterns, there’s something here perfect for every little one’s personality. You won’t find anything else like it in Sheffield – SNÜGG models itself on the more upscale baby boutiques that can be found in London and the country’s larger cities. The quality of each handpicked item for sale at SNÜGG is clear, and you can tell as soon as you walk through the door that Amy has put her all into her baby business.

THE ULTIMATE
CHECKLIST With so many aspects to think about, planning a wedding can be one of our most stressful life events – but it doesn’t have to be. Rhiana Hughes talks you through the seven most important parts of your big day and how to tackle them.
Confetti
Venue While it used to be that churches were the only venues considered when it came to planning a wedding, this has completely changed today. You might want to stick to tradition and walk down the aisle at a beautiful chapel. But if that’s not for you there are a wealth of other venues and locations where you can tie the knot. If you are brave enough to trust the British weather, consider an outdoor wedding incorporating natural colours and decoration into your big day. For those who don’t want to leave the success of their wedding up to Mother Nature, look into more modern venues with an industrial feel. Use copper and warm neutral tones for a gritty, earthy feel, and lighten up the space with fairy lights and light floral arrangements.
Flowers A bigger decision than it may first seem, choosing the flowers for your big day is an important and sometimes tricky part of wedding planning. You might have a favourite flower but will it fit in with the theme and colour scheme of your wedding? Many brides are opting for a more freeform bouquet rather than the tightly wired bunch; choosing to hold flowers that look like they might have just been plucked from a nearby garden while still looking elegant and cleverly put together. When it comes to picking floral arrangements for the venue, think about hanging plants or table wreaths. These will still be eye-catching while allowing your guests to chat across the table without having to duck and dive behind an overbearing centrepiece.
Cake
Pampering
When choosing the cake for your big day you might feel overwhelmed by the number of flavours, sizes and designs on offer. If you’re having a small wedding, save yourself some money and opt for a one or two tier cake with more of a personalised style, and if your wedding is going to be on the larger side, consider a bigger cake with more of a simple design. Simple doesn’t mean boring, and there are countless bakeries that will offer beautiful cakes that can fit in with the theme of your wedding. You don’t have to stick to tradition and go for the common fruit cake either, if your favourite flavour is chocolate or funfetti – go for it. Dessert tables are proving more and more popular too, so if you don’t feel like splashing out on a big cake, pick some of your favourite sweet treats and let your guests pick at them throughout the night.
Brides, the natural look is in. Though your make up does need to last all day and photograph well, there are ways to have this done without looking completely unlike yourself, so be mindful when picking a makeup artist. How you wear your hair for your wedding is as important as the dress. The bridal up do is slowly becoming a thing of the past, so why not consider a vamped up version of your everyday look. Grooms, while you might be planning on just getting up and going on your big day, there are things you can do to get yourself feeling confident on what is your special day. Depending on how fast your hair grows, get yourself a haircut a week or two before the wedding so it’s not looking too overdone on the day. Take care of any facial hair that could look messy; you don’t want to look back at photos and wish you’d had a shave. Also, there’s one thing you really should consider that might not have crossed your mind – get yourself a manicure. Your day is going to consist of a lot of hand shaking, and you probably don’t want to be reaching out to guests with long nails or dry palms.
Catering The traditional three course sit down meal is still popular, but this can make it harder to please all of your guests, especially with all the varying dietary requirements you’ll find within a friendship group these days, and even more so if you’ve invited any fussy little ones. Instead of worrying about creating three or four separate menus, why not find a caterer who can create an assortment of small and sharing plates? Or if you’re having an outdoor wedding, look into having a food van or two. Lots of restaurants are starting their own catering companies, so if you’re keeping your wedding local you may well be able to get your favourite dinner spot to come down and feed yourself and guests.
Guest List You’d be amazed at how stressful putting together a guest list for your wedding can be. You and your partner may not agree on who the other wishes to invite, and even if you do, the number of guests you end up with could mean the costs of your wedding have skyrocketed. While you might be scared of hurting people’s feelings by not inviting them to your nuptials, remember that the day is about you. If you don’t want to invite that second cousin you met once at another cousins wedding, then don’t. Inviting only your nearest and dearest cuts costs and makes your day feel more special and focuses on your union, rather than spending your day playing catch up with 40 distant relatives.
What to wear Black tie is making a comeback, so grooms get your tux ready. If you’re not a fan of black or you’re planning a summer wedding and can’t face the heat in a three-piece, there are plenty of stores that can create the ideal suit to compliment the theme and your own personal style. The main attraction of the day has always been the dress, and while you might feel that there’s a lot of pressure to look perfect on your big day, the most important thing is that you feel good in the gown you’ve chosen. On trend at the moment are dresses that are relaxed and comfortable with a slightly bohemian feel, featuring elegant and intricate patterns. It’s not all about white anymore either, with brides opting for pastels or dresses featuring muted splashes of colour. Westside | www.sheffieldvibe.com 63

It’s all about you With the average age at which couples marry getting higher, we look at ‘older’ brides and things they need to consider when planning their big day. By Rhiana Hughes.
W
hile the overall number of marriages in the UK has been steadily declining over recent years, the number of marriages at older ages is increasing, as is the age at which men and women are choosing to settle down. Research has shown that the average age for men to marry today is 37.5, while women are marrying slightly younger at 35.1. But does the age at which you decide to get married change your big day? What really is an ‘older bride’? Not too long ago, you’d have been considered an older bride if you were walking down the aisle at any age over 23. And if you were over 30, forget it… you were well and truly on the shelf. While this isn’t the case anymore, what many consider to be an older bride really isn’t very old at all. Though the average age for women to marry is 35, you might find that you’re considered an older or ‘mature’ bride as soon as you’re past the age of 27. Whether you’re 27 or 77 though, you can still have your wedding on your terms, no matter why you’re choosing to marry a bit later on. Why get married later in life? There are plenty of reasons as to why the age at which women are marrying is increasing, and no two situations are identical. Whether you’ve chosen to wait until you’re financially secure, whether you were widowed, or whether it’s simply your second (maybe even third or fourth) marriage, your wedding day will still be one of the most special days of your life. The cost of weddings is at an all-time high, so couples are giving themselves more time to save up for their big day, and with less pressure coming from families to get married, marriage is now the informed choice of couples who want to demonstrate their commitment to one another. Research actually suggests that those who marry earlier in life may face greater challenges, as they could struggle with the responsibilities of starting a family at a
relatively early age and it could be harder for them to reach any educational or career goals that they’ve set for themselves. Getting married later in life means that the chances of you having already achieved these goals is much higher. Not your first time down the aisle? Whether it’s your first, second, third or even eighth marriage, your wedding day will still be just as important to you, and who says you’ve even got to walk down the aisle this time? There is no rule book that says you have to stick to tradition, and getting remarried might actually give you an excuse to have a wedding that caters more to your personality, rather than hosting a wedding that’s more about your guests than yourself. Planning a wedding if it’s not your first time round could seem quite daunting; will your guests be as enthusiastic? Can you still register for gifts? How big should your bridal party be? Are you going to invite ex-partners? What should you wear? Where should you have the ceremony? These are all questions that will come up, if not in your own head, likely asked by other people. There is no reason though, that you can’t still enjoy the process of planning your nuptials. Try not to worry about what others will think of your big day, as it’s a day that above all else, should be enjoyed by you and your husband-to-be. If you can’t decide whether or not to invite an ex-partner, think about whether or not you’ll be comfortable with them there. If you feel uncomfortable registering for gifts, why not set up a wishing well so people can choose to contribute towards your honeymoon? Really, there shouldn’t be any problem that can’t be solved by thinking ‘what will make myself and my partner happy?’ There are still a few things to consider when getting remarried though. When planning the event with your partner, be careful to avoid saying things like ‘I did that last time’ or ‘when I married…’ as you don’t want your partner to feel that your day is
being compared to your last wedding. This is especially true when it comes to your vows. If you’re choosing to write your own vows, steer clear of talking about how you used to feel before you met your significant other, instead focus on how they make you feel now. Not only will this highlight the fact that you’re still feeling this way, but it’ll avoid any awkwardness if you did choose to invite your ex! Going to the chapel? It can take a while to find the perfect place to hold your wedding celebrations, so before you embark on the mammoth task of sifting through magazines and endless webpages, make sure you have an idea of what you want from a venue. If it’s a religious ceremony you were hoping for, make sure you check that this is an option for you, especially if it’s not your first marriage as some churches won’t perform religious ceremonies if you’ve been through a divorce. If it is the case that you can’t have a church wedding, consider getting married at your local registry office before heading to your church for a blessing instead. It doesn’t have to be a white wedding… …but it can be if you want it to be. Don’t think that because you’re not as young as you once were that you can’t wear white on your wedding day. Many young and first-time brides are wearing colour, so there’s no reason you can’t go for a classic look. Getting married as an ‘older bride’ gives you more freedom when it comes to picking your outfit as there will likely be less of a preconceived idea of what you should wear coming from your guests. What’s important is that you feel comfortable and go for something that suits you and your individual style, be it a white gown, a blush mini dress or a champagne jumpsuit, you know best what looks good on you, so don’t let others influence your decision.

How to find ‘the one’ for you ZOE LEWIS, JEWELLER AND GEMMOLOGIST AT PA JEWELLERY, HAS SOME TOP TIPS FOR CHOOSING WEDDING RINGS. hen choosing your wedding rings, the options can seem endless and selecting the one that’s right for you can appear a daunting task. However, considering a few key factors before you start can make it easier to find ‘the one’ that you can love forever.
W
TIMESCALE
Make sure you allow plenty of time to choose your rings and have them made. There are hundreds of styles to choose from, so it can take a while to decide and you’ll be more relaxed if you aren’t in a hurry. Our customers often find it helpful to have a first look well in advance of the big day before making a final decision later. Although most of our rings take 3-4 weeks to order, some bespoke designs can take longer. We recommend allowing a minimum of twice as much time to avoid unnecessary worry. EXPECTATIONS
Do you want to wear your ring all the time? How important is it to you that the ring you choose now can be worn for a lifetime? Our experienced team can help you find a design that is both practical and beautiful, advising on how different materials wear and what upkeep designs require. For instance, choosing a ring made from titanium or steel may mean you cannot have it resized if your fingers change in the future, while a diamond set band will need additional maintenance over the years to ensure your diamonds are securely set. Taking expert advice and making an informed decision now will help you enjoy your rings for many anniversaries to come. ENGAGEMENT RING
Most brides wear their wedding ring next to 72 Westside | www.sheffieldvibe.com
their engagement ring and a neat fit is increasingly a key factor in their choice of design. Modern engagement rings are often designed to sit next to a wedding band, but some designs, especially twist or cluster styles, may require a shaped ring. There are lots of solutions available, from bespoke ‘made-to-fit’ designs to pre-existing wishbone or ‘bow-shaped’ styles. If you won’t be wearing your engagement ring all the time, consider how the wedding ring will look on its own as well. Trying examples on is the best way of seeing what will work and is another reason for getting started early. STYLE
This is the fun part! There are lots of styles to choose from (plain, patterned, stone-set…) and the best way to decide is by trying lots on, but you can start beforehand by thinking about whether you’d prefer a classic or modern style, whether there is a detail in your engagement ring you’d like to pick up on or something personal you’d like to incorporate. This will help us to show you the perfect designs that you can fall in love with.

SHOULD THE FAMILY COURTS HAVE LESS POWER WHEN DECIDING FINANCIAL SPLITS? ASKS BRADIE PELL, PARTNER AND HEAD OF GRAYSONS’ FAMILY TEAM.
Clarity and certainty ouples need to agree upon division of assets when they divorce or dissolve a civil partnership. This is best achieved by mutual agreement, but where that is not possible, a court will decide how their assets are split by way of a financial order. Under the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, courts apply various factors when deciding the division of assets, which leads to variations on a case by case basis, wide discretion of judges and questions as to whether this discretion is delivering consistent results. When making a decision, the starting point is equality and judges must then consider section 25 of the Matrimonial Causes Act (known and referred to as the section 25 factors). These include: @ &+,/'5(1 @ ,1&20( $1' ($51,1* &$3$&,7< @ ),1$1&,$/ 1(('6 $1' 5(63216,%,/,7,(6 @ 67$1'$5' 2) /,9,1* (1-2<(' @ $*( $1' /(1*7+ 2) 7+( 0$55,$*( @ 0(17$/ 25 3+<6,&$/ ',6$%,/,7< @ &2175,%87,216 $/5($'< 0$'( @ &21'8&7 @ /266 2) $ %(1(),7 %(&$86( 2) 7+( ',925&( Historically, and until 2000, the weaker party in a relationship (often the home-maker and stereotypically the woman) usually received less in the financial split than the wealthier party (often the breadwinner and the man) under the premise that “reasonable requirements of the financially weaker party are met”. This changed when, in the case of White v White, the court decided that the home-maker should be seen as having made an equal contribution to the partnership, and assets became more equally split. In 2006, courts went further and came up with the principle of ‘fairness’ that would be achieved by reviewing:
C

@ ($&+ 3$57< 6 1(('6 @ $1< ',6$'9$17$*( 7+$7 21( 3$57< +$' suffered as a result of the relationship – e.g. giving up a highly paid job or one with a promising career @ 7+( 35,1&,3/( 2) (48$/ 6+$5,1* However, courts’ discretion continued to be demonstrated when Paul McCartney divorced in 2008 after a four-year marriage. Heather Mills asked for £125million, saying Paul was worth around £800million. He had offered £15.8million. The judge said Heather’s estimate was over-exaggerated and Paul was worth £400million. The court awarded Heather £24.3million for herself and their daughter, saying he thought it was a fair split and met both their needs. A further couple had been married for two years, but had a nine-year relationship. They enjoyed a high standard of living during the marriage and the wife suffered psychologically when the relationship broke down. She was awarded £4.25million and the husband, whose assets were £37million, argued at the Court of Appeal that this went beyond her needs. His appeal was dismissed, with the court saying that in a short marriage discretion as to ‘needs’ was ‘broad and fact sensitive’ and that the judge had worked within his bounds of discretion. In the 2014 ‘Matrimonial Needs and Agreements’ report, the Law Commission found that legal decisions were not consistent around the country and the general principle of ‘the final decision is up to the judge’ caused many issues. The commission produced a guide to the meaning of ‘financial needs’ aimed at the judiciary, in 2016. Many top lawyers believe that judges have too much discretion and are now calling for divorce law reform that would curb their power to decide financial splits in divorce. Paul McCartney’s lawyer, Baroness
Shackleton, has said that judges have too much power to make unfair pay outs. Baroness Deech, who has introduced the Divorce (Financial Provision) Bill that proposes modernisation of asset division on divorce, the recognition of pre- and postnuptial agreements, and an overhaul of spousal maintenance, believes the method of splitting money on divorce is ‘past its sell-by date”. Bradie Pell, partner and head of family law at Graysons, says: “Divorce can be painful and stressful enough without the uncertainty of not knowing what your future lifestyle is going to be like – and that can be defined by your financial settlement. “We would always recommend that you try to come to an agreement on finances without going to court, and we will do all we can to help with that. Not many of us are fortunate enough to worry about whether we get £2million or £125million, but when we do need to turn to a court to make this decision on people’s futures – I think it would be much better if there was more clarity and certainty in how those decisions are reached.” Tel: 0114 205 0366 email: family@graysons.co.uk www.graysons.co.uk Twitter @Graysonslaw and @DivorceDr Facebook – Graysonslaw

When business gets personal – succession planning for owners MANY BUSINESS OWNERS FIND THE WHOLE QUESTION OF SUCCESSION PLANNING TOO DAUNTING TO CONTEMPLATE. BUT THE DEATH OF A BUSINESS OWNER WILL INVARIABLY GIVE RISE TO SOME TOUGH CHALLENGES FOR THE BUSINESS. any business owners find the whole question of succession planning too daunting to contemplate. The process can be difficult, particularly where someone isn’t ready to retire. But the death of a business owner will invariably give rise to some tough challenges for the business, so it is important to make appropriate plans for the inevitable. The ‘head in the sand’ approach, and the potential dangers of inadequate planning and advice, could lead to family fallout further down the line. In a worst case scenario, it could place the entire future of the business in serious jeopardy and lead to protracted litigation.
M
Succession Strategies
If you are a business owner, whether a sole trader, partner, or shareholder in a private company, the first priority is having a Will that implements a suitable succession plan. This is vital to protect both your business and your family. Carefully drafted Will structures, often involving trusts, can help to secure valuable Inheritance Tax (IHT) reliefs and avoid a large tax bill. Early planning is essential to ensure that the business is not too heavily weighted towards investment, so that investment and trading activities are separated with the risk of losing IHT relief. Trusts are often used to make provision for more vulnerable younger family members, where it may be more appropriate for them to receive their inheritance and/or assume control of the business at a later time. Trusts can also ensure that a fair balance is struck between those family members who are involved in the business and those who are 86 Westside | www.sheffieldvibe.com
not. Expert advice can bring structure to family conversations and ensure a smooth business transition. Aside from IHT, there will be other tax considerations. Although Capital Gains Tax (CGT) does not apply on death, it is likely to arise on a lifetime transfer of business assets where, for example, an owner opts for a sale or a phased retirement to reduce ownership over a period of time. Where applicable, entrepreneur’s relief can reduce the effective rate of CGT to 10 per cent on any gain crystallised on the gifting or sale of an interest in a business. However, advice and planning are crucial to ensure that lifetime transfers are arranged tax efficiently. Income Tax also comes into play. The rules on taxation of share dividends have changed in recent years and the well-advised owner will want his company profits to be extracted as efficiently as possible. A retirement plan might involve transferring part of the business into a trust that, with careful structuring, will enable the trustees to distribute funds in a way that enables beneficiaries to use their personal dividend allowance (currently £2,000) most effectively. Where there are existing business partners, it is particularly important to have an agreement setting out how they can acquire a deceased owner’s interest. A cross option agreement will do two things: allow partners to acquire the interest (a call option) for an agreed sum, and give beneficiaries the right to require the partners to buy out the interest (a put option). The agreement will invariably be supported by life assurance which ensures that when either option is exercised, enough funds are available.
This gives peace of mind to surviving owners who wish to ensure the continued viability of the business and avoid having family members disrupt the business activites. But it also reassures loved ones that they can receive their inheritance in cash, rather become embroiled in a business they may not understand with partners unable to buy them out. The Price of Procrastination
Many owners put off these crucial discussions because they fear family fallout. But failure to review existing arrangements, and to make plans for the future, is truly a dangerous business. The aspirations of the younger generations may change over time; where initially there may be no obvious successor to the business within the family, over time children and grandchildren may become more involved. Consideration should also be given to how to incentivise other key employees, and how to circumvent potential conflicts of interests between them and future owners of the business. Appropriate planning provides much needed peace of mind for all concerned, and ensures that a business is fit for its next chapter. We can support you, your family and business with important decisions to ensure that your future plans are realised and brought to life. Preparing for Care It does not always matter how the savings are divided between husband and wife - but if you are elderly and one of you may need care it suddenly becomes important. Take Derek and Joan for instance. Married for 50 years and Joan inherited £300,000 from her sister last year. They invested all the money equally between them. However Derek’s health has not been good and Social Services have now assessed his total savings, including half of the inheritance. The house is not assessed as Joan still lives there. But rather than receiving help from the council in a few months time Derek will have to pay for all of his care until his care until his money goes down to £23,250. A little bit of advanced planning never goes amiss. If its foreseeable that one spouse may well need care before the other you can make sensible arrangements to ensure that the spouse who stays at home is protected. And some early advice from a specialist lawyer will always be a good idea.

ACCLAIMED FAMILY LAW GOES FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH Acclaimed Family Law Ltd Announces Expansion with Move to New Sheffield Office and Appointment of Solicitor Richard Bannister. Acclaimed Family Law Ltd, one of the leading family law firms in the region, have re-located to larger premises in the Central Cathedral Quarter of the City and look forward to welcoming both existing and new clients to their new Sheffield Office. Having moved to newly refurbished premises with its own frontage onto Campo Lane, in the heart of Sheffield’s Legal Sector, Director Michelle Cooper, who is a locally renowned solicitor acting for clients with complex finance issues, says she is delighted with the growth of the firm. “I have seen Acclaimed Family Law, Sheffield’s burgeoning first niche family law practice, go from strength to strength since its inception a few years ago. In just 3 years we have established a reputation as one of the leading family law departments in the area. We have built our reputation on a client centred service using formidable, experienced lawyers with excellent reputations in their own right and I believe our success is testament to providing a cost effective, premium service offering accessible, unbundled law and unrivalled customer service to all our clients. We knew there was a niche for a specialist family law firm with a client centred approach and direct out of hours service, as we realised many clients need to access their solicitor outside of office hours. Our client testimonials are second to none, evidenced by our top rating in the National Telegraph and Times ‘Vouched For’ list for legal and financial experts.” With its presence in Sheffield firmly established and a rapid growth in its client base, Michelle is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Bannister to the firm. Richard is an experienced solicitor specialising in all areas of family law including financial settlements, separation and cohabitation agreements as well as dealing with contact and residence arrangements for children. Originally from Belfast, Richard studied Law at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland before completing his Legal Practice Course
in Chester and is a member of Resolution (formerly known as the Solicitors Family Law Association). Impressed with Richard’s track record and ethos, which perfectly fits with the firms approach of always putting the client first, Michelle says “Going the extra mile for our clients is not an exception, it is our rule and I can see that Richard is going to be a huge asset, complementing our growing family law team which includes Senior Executive Solicitor Sandra Russell, a skilled negotiator and litigator with a background in economics and accounting and a trained Collaborative Lawyer and Leanne Barton who has extensive expertise in areas of divorce, domestic violence, children issues and cohabitational disputes. With a superb support team backed up by Office Manager Jill Raine, newly appointed legal secretary Wendy Foster and an administration team trained in customer service, Michelle believes that the future is bright for Acclaimed Family Law. With an official new office launch party planned in the Autumn, we look forward to raising a glass to toast the future of Acclaimed Family Law.

Bluebird Care teams sign up to become Night Striders Sheffield home care providers, Bluebird Care are strengthening their links with St Luke’s Hospice as they prepare to become Night Striders. The company has two teams made up of 14 members of staff taking part in Night Strider. The event on 6 October will see around a thousand people embark on either a 10k or half marathon night walk through the city streets in support of Sheffield’s only hospice. This will be the first time the Bluebird care team have taken part in Night Strider, which is now entering its fourth year. “We work closely with St Luke’s and would like to help out as much as we can as it is a very worthy cause,” said Lynne Mellody of Bluebird Care. “We are walking in memory of all of our customers and lots of family and friends and together we aim to raise at least £1,000. “We are really looking forward to the event and the great atmosphere and camaraderie.” Anne Brundell and Rosie Charlton are another two people taking part. This will be the fourth time the pair have volunteered to provide refreshments. “It is great to be able to support such a wonderful local charity,” said Anne, a solicitor with city law firm, Irwin Mitchell LLP. The company sponsors and manages one of the pit stops – right outside the Millhouses pub in Abbeydale Road – as part of the October challenge event which sees a thousand people heading out onto on either a 10k or half marathon walking fundraiser. “It is great to be at the pit stop each year as we encounter so many people and everyone is always grateful for a drink and a snack and some Irwin Mitchell goodies as they are going round,” she continued. “The people at the pub are also really supportive and they bring out hot drinks for us to keep us going before the walkers arrive!” Rosie will admit that being a Night Strider volunteer means a very late night finish but she insists that’s a small price to pay. “It’s fun, colourful and busy!” she added. “It is a great event because of the atmosphere and everyone is always really friendly. I certainly plan to keep volunteering!” To support the Bluebird Care team, visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bluebirdcaresheffield. Visitors to Bakewell’s 900-year-old Haddon Hall will be able to get a flavour for the fear of witches and evil spirits that gripped the country during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries on special Halloween tours. Haddon Hall has numerous apotropaic marks, created as protection against evil spirits during the Reformation With the Act Against Conjurations, Enchantments and Witchcrafts during Elizabeth I’s reign in 1563 and the Witchcraft Act in 1604, following James I’s accession to the throne, witches became figures of fear, with the populace taking measures to protect their families and homes from any evil spirits, during the 16th and 17th centuries, when England went through the religious, political and intellectual upheaval of The Reformation. Visitors on these special evening Halloween tours will be encouraged to search for the marks, such as the ‘daisy wheel’, looking like a flower drawn with a compass, and circular designs, which were drawn to trap evil within them. There will also be an accompanying, knowledgeable talk about the history of the Hall and its times, and how apotropaic graffiti is being interpreted today as an understanding of belief and superstition in the past. The unique tours will take place on 25, 29, 30 and 31 October and will last approximately an hour and a half, starting at 6pm with a Halloween cocktail and cake before the tour itself at 6.30pm. The tour is intended for those over 14 and costs £29 per person. Booking is essential online at www.haddonhall.co.uk.

Nonnas shortlisted for prestigious award
Sainsbury’s Archer Road gives its backing to the Weston Park Cancer Charity Shoppers and staff at Sainsbury’s Sheffield Archer Road branch have kindly pledged to support Weston Park Cancer Charity by adopting the non-profit organisation as Local Partner Charity of the Year. Various charitable organisations were considered, but Weston Park, which helps and supports people of all ages that have developed cancer, topped the poll. Weston Park Hospital is one of just four specialist cancer hospitals in England, and the only one in Yorkshire, and is home to the only radiotherapy department in South Yorkshire - meaning patients from across the region are required to attend for radiotherapy treatment. Over 18,000 patients are currently under the care of Weston Park Hospital, which equates to over 150,000 individual patient visits each year. The partnership means staff from the Archer Road supermarket will spend 12 months helping raise awareness and funds, to help create a better life for patients and their families living with, and beyond, cancer. Jade Hearsum, Community Fundraiser for Weston Park Cancer Charity, said: “We’re delighted to be named the new local charity partner for Sainsbury’s Archer Road. “We’d like to thank everyone who voted for us. This partnership will make a huge difference to the lives of people living with cancer.”
On 4 August, Weston Park Cancer Charity kicked off their fundraising stint with a tombola and bucket collection, raising £688. Danny Powell, store manager for Sainsbury's Archer Road, said: "It is fantastic to be working in partnership with our new charity of the year - Weston Park Cancer Charity, who were voted for by our customers and our colleagues. The work that Weston Park does is amazing, and it is vital to our local community, and beyond. “On our first day of fundraising we managed to raise nearly £700, which was a great start, but I know by working closely together we can achieve so much more. Everyone in our store is fully behind Weston Park Cancer Charity, ensuring we make this partnership a real success, and I believe that through dedication and hard work over the next year, we can help raise even more much needed funds so that Weston Park can continue their fantastic work." Over the years, Weston Park Cancer Charity has played a pivotal role in bringing world-class treatments and research to Weston Park Hospital, giving patients access to the latest advances in the treatment of cancer. Not only does this improve the quality of cancer services across the board, but it helps Weston Park’s world-leading clinicians better understand the disease, paving the way for the hope of one day finding a cure.

The Italian Awards are held in particular high esteem by the industry as it's down to the public to vote for the nation's favourites. smaller plates (£5.20 each). My two tucked into chicken skewers (him) and spit roast pork (her) and loved every bit. With so much to choose from, my wife and I needed a little nudge in the right direction and appetisers of pitted kalamata olives (£4.10), fried halloumi cheese (£5.60) and Spanakotyropita (£5.30), a type of feta and spinach samosa, gave us plenty of food for thought. For mains, my Greek chorizo and chicken wrap, served in a pitta bread with mixed salad, tzatziki and strofilia dip (£7.45), and with some extra spit roast pork thrown in for good measure, was substantial to say the least. The Greedy Greek Deli clearly don’t believe in small portions. My wife, meanwhile, tucked into a tomato stuffed with beef mince, rice and feta (£5.20) and stuffed aubergines (£5.20). Wholesome and delicious, the latter was definitely the stand-out of the two. Greek lemon potatoes (£4.60) provided a citrusy contrast. Drinks are mainly of the soft variety; we shared apple, orange and blood orange varieties (£2.50 each) but the deli operates a
‘bring your own’ policy should you prefer something a bit stronger. Don’t expect to make an evening of it; the service is prompt and the portions are big but my goodness they’re tasty. If, like us, you’ve had more than your fill and can’t make room for dessert, you can take advantage of the fact that it’s a deli and take it home with you. We enjoyed some deliciously sweet baklava (£5.10) the next day with a strong cup of coffee and were all the better for it. The art of good food PHOEBE SEYMOUR ENJOYS A FEAST FOR THE SENSES AT MADE BY JONTY. here’s something bohemian and arty about Sharrowvale Road... Just think of places like Pete McKee’s gallery, Month of Sundays, and the picture framing and art print gallery, The Framery, here. Nestled directly between them is a café that fits right in – Made By Jonty. It’s a gallery in its own right, with the walls covered in everything from a huge charcoal picture of the Yorkshire Moors and small oil paintings by little-known talent, to bold and modern masterpieces by street artist Phlegm, and a sketch of owner Jonty by McKee. Made By Jonty gives customers the chance to appreciate the strength and variety of the Sheffield art scene, while they enjoy some of the best food and coffee the city has to offer. As my friend, Shauna, and I turned up on a Wednesday lunchtime, we found that three other parties were waiting to be seated - a testament to how popular this café is even on a weekday. We were happy to sit on a bench out front and chat as I sipped on a refreshing rhubarb tea (£1.80) and Shauna enjoyed a silky flat white with almond milk (£2.90). Before we knew it, we were upstairs admiring the huge Phlegm artwork and watching the world go by through the

window. Though the exposed brickwork wall and cacti on the window sill are admittedly hipster, the décor is simple and doesn’t come across as trying hard. The food is similarly balanced, with traditional all-day breakfasts on the main menu and more experimental concoctions on the specials menu. Shauna chose The Full Jonty (£9) and as the café is known for its egg-factor, she added an extra fried egg (50p) for good measure. The eggs were perfectly runny, and along with the succulent sausages, crisp bacon, hash browns, beans, juicy tomatoes and a mushroom, did not disappoint. But it was the sourdough toast – a small, yet noticeable detail – that grabbed her attention. I had a twist on a classic – a masala spiced potato omelette (£7.50). The spices gave the omelette an earthy depth of flavour and came with a fried patra, a patty made up of arbi/colocasia leaves. Abundant in Malaysia, India and Thailand, they are often called elephant ears because of their size and shape, but rolled, sliced and fried, the texture was like a soft wedge of red cabbage. Sweet yet spicy, the side of cherry tomatoes had a cooling effect and amplified the sweetness of the patra.
Shauna had a classic Victoria sponge, while I had a slice of Guinness and chocolate cake (both £2.80) for dessert. The Victoria sponge was gluten-free, but was somehow delightfully moist, while the butter cream was a perfect match for the decadent Guinness and chocolate cake, and mirrored the pint’s iconic look. Made by Jonty truly offers a feast for all of the senses. Whether you want to indulge in a British breakfast or discover delicacies inspired by other cultures, you’ll find them all cooked to perfection on Sharrowvale Road. Help when you need it the most AS A FORMER VICTIM HERSELF, LAURA RILEY DEDICATES HER TIME TO HELPING SURVIVORS OF EMOTIONAL ABUSE THROUGH HER CHARITY, MUMS IN NEED. SHE SPEAKS TO HANNAH SANDERS. aura Riley is a healthcare professional in mental health who suffered years of emotional and financial abuse at the hands of her son’s father. Following her legal battles and after reestablishing her life in Sheffield, Laura decided to set up an online support group – Mums In Need (MIN) – to help other mothers who have had or are facing similar experiences. Laura founded the organisation in 2013, and since then MIN has continued to grow with help from volunteers, grants, family and mums themselves, becoming a registered charity in February this year.

“I met my son’s father when I was 26. On the surface he was kind, charming, funny and very caring and I thought I was in love. After I became pregnant, cracks started to appear and he began manipulating our financial situation and isolated me from friends and family. “When my son turned one and I stopped breastfeeding, he asked me to leave and the problems continued. Sometimes when I would go to pick my son up he wouldn’t be there, he refused to take him to nursery and was harassing me for money. “I removed my son from the environment as I was terrified he would take his anger out on him, and then came an arduous legal
battle. The fact that my ex was an emotional abuser wasn’t recognised by the courts and I felt like my child’s and my own emotional needs weren’t being met. The whole court process was utterly soul destroying. “The original court case started in 2009 and ended in 2011 but because of the physical and emotional safety concerns I had the matter returned to court in 2013. It stopped and started again in 2015 for a year – so it was a painstakingly long process. Although I had to go through the family courts numerous times, I learnt to understand that no matter how hard things get and how difficult the battle is, it’s worth fighting. “It’s been a difficult process, but I have
WESTSIDE HEROES
been able to rebuild my life and both my son and I are now in a place where we are happy. I’ve married a man who is the true definition of unconditional love and has supported me 100 per cent with MIN. Now that I am on the other side, I feel so strongly about supporting other mums who have/are going through this too.” Sheffield-based MIN offers women face-toface support to help them get the help they need to overcome their fears and ultimately rebuild their lives. Unlike other organisations, there’s no time limit to how long you can use MIN services – whether it’s a few weeks, months or years, Laura, her staff and the volunteers are simply there to help in any way possible. Now that the charity has grown, the online support service is no longer needed, as they conduct face-to-face assessments in their office. What’s great about this service, is as some of the women have children they’re able to bring them along and one of the team will look after them whilst having a session. “It’s a really easy referral process for the mums. They can either call the helpline or email us, and someone will be in touch to get them booked in for an assessment within a couple of days. Our service isn’t clinical at all, we have such a relaxed atmosphere, making sure that the mums feel at home when they come to us. “Before a mum comes to us we ask them to complete a pre-assessment form just to
check that we are the right place for them. More often than not we are, but in some cases if we think another organisation would provide them with the correct help and care we will point them in the right direction.” Not only do the wonderful team at MIN provide much-needed support through weekly phone calls, face-to-face visits, coffee mornings, holistic therapies or counselling but they’re able to help provide legal service for family court. “We were given some funding from the National Lottery and used this to bring in trained counsellors and legal support – McKenzie Friends. The McKenzie Friends help those mums who can’t afford solicitors themselves. “When a mum needs to go to court, we can help fill in all the paperwork and the legal support taught us how to do this. Then a member of the McKenzie Friends will go to court with the mum, and if she would like, one of us is always able to go along too and provide moral support.” To help keep the funds coming in, MIN have a shop on site which they hold regular sales in. And they frequently run raffles, coffee mornings and have over 45 charity pots dotted across Sheffield and Rotherham. “When I look back at what I have done with MIN, it’s amazing and I do feel incredibly proud. It’s hard to think sometimes that if I hadn’t gone through such a horrendous experience, I wouldn’t be where I
am today providing women with security, a sense of worth, help and support through difficult times. “I pour my heart and soul into everything I do with MIN – I just love it. I can get quite choked up when I hear what the charity does for the mums. We’ve created a real sense of family, and I just want to continue providing that for these women. “This year we’re going to continue applying for grants, so we can get some more funding and increase the service we provide. “For all those mums out there that are suffering from emotional abuse – you aren’t alone. Please don’t be afraid to come forward and ask for help. At MIN we provide a safe, warm, homely place where you can come with your child and get the support that you need.” For more information on Mums In Need or how to refer yourself call 0800 852 7414, email enquiries@mumsinneed.com or visit www.mumsinneed.com. EATING OUT
Stop! Feast ahead CHRIS WILSON FINALLY PULLS UP IN BASLOW AND IS REWARDED WITH SOME GUTSY ITALIAN COOKING AT IL LUPO. t least once a week someone will approach the owner of Il Lupo In Baslow and say: “I’ve been driving past this place for years and this is the first time I’ve come in.” So, I’m sorry Gabriele, my opening gambit was not exactly original. It’s not as if this charming, old-school trattoria is hidden away. Perched on a corner opposite Baslow Village Hall and a large car park, it’s visible enough; you might even say it’s hiding in plain sight. Nevertheless if you like generous portions of gutsy Italian food, cooked with passion and served by waiters who are clearly delighted that you stopped by, don’t do as I did for 20odd years... stop the car and step inside. At first glance it looks like a restaurant where time stood still with a large sootblackened fireplace, soft lighting from Tiffany lamps, original stone walls and bare wooden floors. In fact, those floors are new after a recent flood. But the values imposed by Gabriele’s father Luigi when he took over the restaurant in 1998 are very much intact. Sadly Luigi died last year but his spirit is definitely present. Gabriele was head chef for many years. He’s front of house these days but was back in the kitchen when we stopped by for Sunday lunch, so the new boy could have a days off. There are no surprises on a lengthy menu covering most of the mainstream pasta, pizza,

meat and seafood dishes. Perhaps it’s not strictly classical, but experience has shown that in this part of the world customers like a ‘British’ take on Italian cuisine. So while you may search in vain for a pasta dish with chicken, or a carbonara made with cream in any Italian cook book, you’ll get it here...and if it’s up to the standard of our meal it’ll be delicious. So, park your food snobbery outside and prepare to be bowled over. Our meal started with bruschetta with tomato and pesto (£3.95), a simple enough dish transformed by a gorgeous fresh salad served with a dash of balsamic and a zingy mustard dressing. Our starters and mains both came from a tantalising selection of daily specials. Tender, deep-fried calamari (£8.99) with tartare sauce and mussels in a Marsala wine and cream sauce (£8.50) both delivered great, strong flavours; that wine and cream sauce was particularly fine with every last drop being hungrily mopped up. For mains my wild boar filled pasta ravioli (£14.50) was surprisingly delicate, cooked to perfection and swimming in butter and sage. The chunks of spicy sausage sprinkled over the top and a handful of extremely savoury borlotti beans provided the finishing touches on a great dish. My companion went down the seafood route with a generous serving of shell-on king prawns (£19.95) pan-fried with garlic,
lemon and white wine. Beautifully cooked spinach, rice and potatoes provided the perfect accompaniment for those fragrant, juicy prawns. There’s very reasonable wine list, heavily Italian (of course) including some great selections by the glass. A small glass of Verdeca (£5.20) from the family’s home region of Puglia offset the seafood perfectly and a big, fruity glass of Nero D’Avola (£7.20) was ideal for that meaty pasta main. For me the perfect way to end a hearty, old-fashioned Italian feast is with some top class gelato and Il Lupo delivers the goods. Scoops of pistachio, coconut, coffee and banana (£5.50) cooled things off nicely and that wonderful Italian mix of strong coffee and ice-cream was well presented by the tartufo nero affogato (£6.50). CHRISTMAS
Get that festive feeling IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START PLANNING THE OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY… SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? ith the warm weather drawing to the close and summer holidays a distant memory, it can only mean one thing the countdown to Christmas and the festive party season is on. This December, across the Sheffield City Region work colleagues will be putting on their glad rags and enjoying a drink – or two together. A well organised party in a quality, popular venue can give dedicated, hard-working staff something fun to look forward to as the year draws to a close. It is not only good for team morale but a great bonding experience for all. The key to a really good, memorable Christmas work ‘do’ is to make sure it is booked well in advance, so you’re not left to find out every venue is fully booked, leaving the only option to be an office party, telling cheesy Christmas cracker jokes whilst dancing around the photocopier to Bowie.

It doesn’t have to be the manager who is tasked with the booking of the party either. Hand the party planning over to the one in the office who loves to socialise, as they will relish the task of getting everyone on board and booking a fantastic Christmas party. So whether it’s a lavish five-course spread at a top restaurant, a dinner and dance evening or a traditional turkey meal with all the trimmings at a cosy pub, there are plenty of venues to choose from that can accommodate your festive plans, whether you are a small business with a handful of staff, or a huge organisation with hundreds of employees. So, no matter what the budget or scale of your party get into the Christmas spirit and get your party booked now. If you’re short of ideas of what to do and where to host your Christmas party this year, take a look at some of the fabulous venues showcased here.

Havana good time… TAPAS AT CUBANA COMES WITH COCKTAILS, MUSIC AND MAYBE A LITTLE DANCING AFTERWARDS, SAYS RHIANA HUGHES. y partner Ben, and I are no strangers to Cubana, having visited multiple times for a drink and a dance with friends in their downstairs bar. We’d never quite made it to the restaurant upstairs though, something we’re kicking ourselves for now. Hungry from long days at work on this Thursday evening, we walked up the stairs not entirely sure what to expect but wholly optimistic. Cubana demands the attention of all of your senses, the amazing smells coming from the kitchen hit you before you reach the top of the stairs, and their walls are brightly painted to make you feel like you could actually be in Cuba. We were told a live band was about to start, and were seated in a great position to see them play. We decided to start the night off with some cocktails as Thursday is the new Friday, right? We couldn’t visit a Cuban restaurant and not give some of their rums a try, so Ben went for the Cuba Libre (£6.25) and I chose the fruitier Verry Berry Jerry (£7.25) – not a typo, I promise. As our drinks arrived the live band started to play, and we immediately felt like we were sat on the beach on holiday, just without the heat and the sand making its mark on

everything we own. We were given some time to look over their tapas menu, and we definitely needed it. There was nothing on the menu we didn’t want to try, which of course means we’re going to have to head back for the things we missed out on. It may have taken us a while, but we eventually settled on five dishes to share. We chose the trusty Spanish dish patatas bravas (£3.45) which came with a perfectly tangy tomato sauce and the Costillas (£5.45), tender pork ribs covered in a fruity barbeque sauce that melted away in the mouth. A no brainer for us was the chorizo (£5.20), which had been pan fried in La Rioja and had a wonderful smoky but sweet taste. With two more to decide on, Ben spotted the Gambas Pil Pil (£5.95), tiger prawns pan fried in garlic and olive oil, with roasted peppers and a touch of chilli. The two of us can’t get enough of garlic so this was great, and the hint of chilli made the dish even better. Lastly, I chose the Mozzarella Y Jamon (£5.95), fresh melted mozzarella wrapped in crispy Serrano ham. If I had to pick a favourite, this would be it. On top of this, we were brought some complomentary garlic bread which came fresh, still warm, and with the perfect amount
of oil and garlic. With a tableful of food to get through we found ourselves thirsty again, and decided to treat ourselves to cocktail number two. This time Ben chose the Black Pearl (£8.50), another rum based cocktail, while I went for the Fresita (£7.50), a tart and refreshing choice. Defeated by the tapas but with full and happy bellies, we went to leave. As we walked down the stairs though, we could hear more live music calling our names and realised our night wasn’t over, staying for another drink and a dance. RENEGADE CHOICE The emergence of the SUV has taken the market by storm, and who better to buy from than a company with excellent 4x4 credentials – Jeep. Jeep has announced the arrival of their all-new Renegade SUV. Starting from £19,200, the Renegade is amongst the most competitive when it comes to value for money. Available with a choice of diesel and brand-new petrol engines, the Renegade has been built to suit everybody’s needs. A 120hp 1.0-litre turbo and 150hp 1.3-litre are the petrol choices and 1.6-litre and 2.0litre for diesel options. Can be paired with a six-speed manual, DDCT (Dual Dry Clutch Transmission) or a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Renegade has been made to look more sophisticated with a smarter and more expensive look. The new Jeep Renegade
New Fabia makes its debut Say hello to the newly updated Skoda Fabia. Out now, the car has a start price of just £12,840. With a host of new safety systems, boosted specifications and a sharp new, this is the most advanced Skoda Fabia in history. Each Fabia now features daytime LED running lights, front assist and a multifunction trip computer as standard. The revised Fabia will be petrol powered only in the form of a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit in three power guises: 74hp; 94hp; and 108hp. The most powerful version comes with the option of a seven-speed DSG gearbox. Available in estate and hatchback form from launch, the Fabia is available in five trim levels: Fabia S; SE; SE L; Monte Carlo; and Colour edition.
JORDAN CUTFORTH HAS THE PICK OF THE NEW AND UPDATED MODELS IN THIS MONTH’S MOTORING ROUND-UP.
Fresh outlook Honda has revealed updates to its much-loved subcompact SUV, the HR-V. Upgrades include a new, highgloss dark chrome panel above the grille, deeper air intake sections that house circular fog lights, and the headlights now have projector lenses with redesigned LED daytime running lights as standard. More expensive trims come with a new 17-inch alloy design, and the exhaust tailpipe has a unique chrome finisher. Under the skin, Honda has added extra sound insulation throughout the interior. The HR-V will be powered only by a 128hp, 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated petrol. Figures are 53.2mpg and 121g/km of CO2. Customer deliveries will start from October. A more powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit and a 1.6-litre diesel unit will be available in 2019. Manual and CVT options available.
New MG adds a touch of class MG – synonymous for building British sports cars a few decades ago – has built a new version of their current best-selling model, the MG3. Back when the MG3 was first released, it was a supermini for those wanting to stand out from the supermini crowd, wanting to not conform to the usual Polo, Fabia, Fiesta gang. But now, this is a car definitely worth considering. Every MG3 comes with a seven-year/80,000-mile warranty, showing us that MG believes in the quality of its products. It’s also one of the most spacious superminis on the market, with boot space measuring at 285-litres. A fresh looking exterior and interior gives the MG3 a very classy feel making it a very appealing proposition. Prices starting from £9,495. Available now. 128 Westside | www.sheffieldvibe.com
