President's Report

THE IMPACT OF GIVING 2019-20

Our Mission Regis Jesuit High School —a Catholic educational community— engages the gifts of young men and women in a single-gender environment, fosters faith in Jesus Christ and promotes justice and mercy, develops critical minds and nurtures compassionate hearts to serve others – all for the greater glory of God.

class of 2020 graduates on Mcnicholas green in July 2020, Regis Jesuit held a Baccalaureate Mass and commencement ceremonies for the 379 members of the class of 2020. They joined a network of more than 12,000 Regis Jesuit alumni who distinguish themselves in their communities as Men and Women with and for Others.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

GRATITUDE FOR THE ANGELS AMONG US It is probably getting to be a bit trite to say that the year 2020 is one like no other, but this has certainly been true for Regis Jesuit. We will regard it as memorable without a doubt. Words like fluid, flexible and adaptable are wellworn these days, as are the people charged with embodying them. Underlying these truths, however, remains a vibrance about Regis Jesuit that simply refuses to be quarantined. This has been especially true among our community of support, for whom we are profoundly grateful. Some of the most poignant moments of the 2019-20 school year included the reinvented presentation of Virtual LARK and the funding of our Guardian Angel appeal. These efforts provided testimony to our community’s commitment to ensure the Regis Jesuit community would stay together during the tumultuous spring months and into the new school year. On that night, as we watched the results of the paddle raiser continue to ascend on the then novel Zoom channel, we were overcome with gratitude for the remarkable belief in and support of Regis Jesuit, even if we couldn’t gather together. Guardian Angels continued to step forward with gifts of appreciation for our faculty who quickly transitioned instructional delivery to online and hybrid platforms. We are grateful to them and to our faculty members who, day-by-day, defined what an Ignatian educational approach must include, emphasizing relationship and

perseverance along with excellence. And we were especially inspired by the resilience and hopefulness of our Class of 2020 graduates who joined together to deliver to our community a video montage of their gratitude for their Regis Jesuit experience. More recently, our alumni reminded us of the impact of the lifelong friendships forged at Regis Jesuit. We were humbled by the Class of 1988 and friends and family of Tony Mangus ’88 who stepped forward to fund a scholarship in his honor and memory in record time following his passing in September. Tony’s classmates brought into vivid relief what it means to be Men and Women with and for Others. Despite all the challenges we collectively have faced this year, our community of support has risen to the occasion time and time again to provide sparks of hope, lighting the way for each other and for the enduring mission and spirit of Regis Jesuit. So yes, it has been memorable. Memorable for the generosity and other-centeredness demonstrated to us in so many remarkable ways. With our growing community of support, we confidently forge ahead envisioning greater opportunities for our future and our students. Thank you for your investment in the mission of Regis Jesuit. Sincerely,

David Card '87 President

My wife, cynthia, and i have included Regis Jesuit High school in our estate plans for a simple reason: my education there made a significant difference in my following life, and we wish to see that impact continue for others.” "Upon graduation from Regis, I was fortunate enough to have won an Appointment to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis. During my first year there in an English class, I found that I had already covered most of the course at Regis High. In math and science classes, I found that what I had learned at Regis had me much better prepared for these more advanced courses than were most of my fellow Navy classmates. And perhaps most importantly, I quickly adjusted to the disciplined environment of the Academy, with its time pressures and need to focus on multiple tasks at hand. The Jesuit system had prepared me well for this intense scholastic experience, which was most often quite new to my Midshipman classmates. With Regis, I was blessed with a very successful life and career, carrying forward not only its educational impact, but also guided by the ethic of service to others." – James Defrancia ’59, sJfR legacy society Member

GIVING IMPACT: ACCESS & AFFORDABILIT Y

A ONE-NOTE PIANO

CHARACTER FORMATION AT THE HEART OF THE RJ EXPERIENCE A former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and current grandparent, Drayton Nabers, has developed a fond love of Regis Jesuit and its students. Nabers remains genuinely moved as he reflects on his first experience stepping onto Regis Jesuit’s campus, “I remember the first time I walked onto campus with my daughter who was at the time considering RJ for my grandson,” he recalls. “We arrived just after lunch and what really struck me was suddenly everyone around us got quiet and a staff member kindly asked us to pause and take a seat. A reflection by a student came over the campus-wide PA, which I later learned was The Daily Examen. I sat there overwhelmed by the power of that moment and I thought, ‘this school has it right.’” A Birmingham native, Nabers grew up in a middleclass family and his parents knew the value of education and were committed to ensuring he experienced one that would provide endless opportunities to him. Their personal sacrifices and encouragement, mixed with his strong work ethic and character, took him to Princeton University, then to Yale Law School, followed by an 18-year career practicing law until his retirement in 2002. A defining experience early on in Nabers’ life was when he served as a clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black. Justice Black was someone whose character and integrity was influential in Nabers’ formative years and taught him the importance of faith-based character.

“When I came to Regis Jesuit four years ago, I was just a timid boy who thought he could not be heard. During my time at Regis, I grew as a person and my teachers and friends helped me know that I am heard and loved, and I can love others as well. After Regis, I aspire to become a Spanish teacher and hopefully come back to Regis and teach students. My time at Regis has helped me to realize how much I love serving and helping people. I am so grateful for my teachers, friends and the many people that have helped me through my journey, including the Nabers family.” – Abraham Cruz ’21

“I am a one-note piano when it comes to the importance of character,” remarks Nabers. “And no one gets character better than the Catholics.” Nabers believes faith-based character is more important in the life development of a human being than just academics. “Strong character will help you live a successful life—one that is other-centered,” said Nabers. “I'm interested in Regis Jesuit because they get character formation right. When this is at the heart of what you do, then you will be a better academic program—and from there, the opportunities are infinite. I want this opportunity for every young person.” After that first visit to campus, Nabers became a donor to Regis Jesuit’s Sponsor-aStudent Scholarship program and now, four years later, he is genuinely proud of the two scholarship students who are currently seniors and who have been the recipients of his scholarship since their freshman year. “We just love to help—my wife Fairfax is very much a part of it, too,” said Nabers. “It is fulfilling for us to help young people like Abraham and Sofia realize their full potential through an educational experience that forms such strong, Christian character.” The Nabers family has charitable foundation with a focus on serving youth who are economically disadvantaged. Along with Regis Jesuit, their philanthropy reaches across the world to Rwanda where they are building an African university, as well as to their hometown of Birmingham where he has served for the past 12 years as Chairman of the Board of an inner-city, Christian K-12 school. “Money should be like a river—it needs to keep moving. It brings me joy to be able to support charities close to my heart,” Nabers states. “That is what philanthropy is about—if I can make other people happy by what the Lord has given me, then that is true happiness and living out the heart of Jesus.” Though Nabers lives out of state, he continues to witness firsthand the power of character formation at Regis Jesuit, not only by watching his scholarship students thrive, but through the growth of his grandson who is an RJ sophomore. “Already I can see the transformation happening to him. He’s a really good human being and I’m so proud of him,” reflects Nabers. “What is happening at Regis Jesuit is extraordinary and I’m grateful to be a part of it.”

GIVING IMPACT: Access & Affordability

“My four years at Regis Jesuit have taught me so much about myself and what it means to serve others. I have grown as a person through retreats, spiritual activities and community service. I have achieved my high school success with support from the Sponsor-a-Student Scholarship program and the Nabers family, which I am truly privileged and humbled to have received. Next fall in college, I plan to study computer science and biomedical engineering and go into a field that can help people through technological advances. I am most grateful to my mother for her love and unconditional support. She has inspired me to be strong, kind and chase after my dreams.”

GIFTS OF OPPORTUNITY Regis Jesuit aims to be affordable and accessible to all students across the metro area who desire a Catholic, Jesuit education. We believe that neither the cost of tuition nor a family’s background should prevent students from reaching their full potential at Regis Jesuit. Our commitment to removing economic and cultural barriers is enabling us to build a diverse student body which in turn provides an enriched and more rewarding experience for every student that better prepares them to be an empathetic, global citizen. We are grateful to our mission partners who continue to help us remove economic barriers to entry and full participation in the life of the school with a financial aid program that strives to meet the needs of our community. Thank you for providing our young men and women with the opportunity of a Regis Jesuit education!

2020-21 PARENT LEADERSHIP

I volunteer at RJ because I want to give back to a wonderful place that has given so much to my kids and set them up for success as students and thoughtful, giving individuals. Volunteering is a way for me to exemplify being with and for others on a daily basis in our home.” – Stephanie Clouatre (parent of Jack ’19 and Caroline ’22)

The entire Regis Jesuit community benefits from the leadership and volunteer opportunities provided by the Raider Parent Association (RPA). The core of a Jesuit education, ‘we are men and women in service of others finding God in all things,’ has significant meaning and I consider it an important part of my children's education. Volunteering at Regis Jesuit gives me an opportunity to share in this tradition and also allows me to lead by example for my four past and present students at RJHS.” – Brian Storey (parent of Lucy ’20, Sam ’21, Sophie ’22 and Libby ’23) 2019-20 PRESIDENT'S REPORT

GIVING IMPACT: HOLISTIC EDUCATION

INNOVATION IN THE CLASSROOM:

Creating Hands-On Learning Experiences for Students Last school year, math teachers Tina Janelle, Matthew Ortiz and Kelli Mattacchione undertook a different approach to teaching geometry. Rather than have their students work traditionally to learn geometric concepts from a textbook, they opted to have them apply what they were learning to build what they termed a ‘tiny, tiny house.’

During the construction process, students learned key concepts needed including how to keep the houses parallel and plumb by using measurements to be sure that the walls were straight and true. Building also required measuring and the placement of nails to be sure they did not split the floor. They used framing squares to check for perpendicular floors and walls.

The idea was born out of curriculum training Janelle and Ortiz participated in the summer of 2019 called Geometry in Construction. The teachers believed that a mini construction project would be ideal to incorporate geometric concepts into a hands-on project in their classes. Teams of seven to nine students each worked to build their house over the course of the school year. All told, 22 houses were built, including a model built by the teachers.

Along with building the house, each team also put together a portfolio to document their ideas and decisions about themes and design. The portfolio included geometric tasks that were integrated into the project, such as: The volume of the house was calculated and scaled to full size using a scale of one inch = one foot to calculate the volume of a similar full-sized house. Then the students researched the size and cost of an HVAC system that would be required to heat and cool the house.

Regis Jesuit accompanies students in the formation of the whole person—mind, body and spirit. Investing in Holistic Education through the Inspire & Ignite Fund supports academic and formative programs that enrich the educational journey, leading students to become conscious, competent and compassionate individuals. The idea of the tiny, tiny house project is a great example of this. 24

REGIS JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL

Additionally, the students explored the ideas of tessellations, a mathematical concept where transformations including slides, reflections and rotations were used to design different shapes that

could fill a surface without gaps or overlaps. Each student designed an original tessellation. In many cases, the tessellations were used as flooring or wallpaper, but they were also produced in pillows, tabletops, rugs, placemats and artwork. Finally, the students incorporated the concept of 'scale' to design and 3D-print an object for their houses using the scale of one inch = one foot. While most of the 3D printed items were furniture, there were some unique pieces created including a disco ball, a swing, an indoor sand volleyball court, a turtle in an aquarium, a rocket ship, a Christmas tree, a hot tub, two penguins holding shelves and an igloo. Janelle estimates that the 3D printers in the libraries were utilized for a combined total of approximately 1000 hours to create all the objects made for the houses. The intent from the beginning was to donate the finished projects. Two of the winning houses—the Beach House and Galaxy House—were a part of the 2020 LARK Virtual Auction.

At the end of the building process, I couldn’t wait to send off our house to children who needed new toys. It made my heart so warm to know that a kid would soon be playing with this house that we all worked so hard on. I’m so excited for the kids to play with the 3D printed hot tub that I designed. I wish I could see the smile on their faces, but I know in my heart that they will love and cherish our creation, and I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.” – RJ Student

Regis Jesuit is and always has been a strong, loving and generous community that shows up for each other. The spring of 2020 was no exception. The RJ Guardian Angel Appeal, Regis Jesuit High School’s response to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, launched from March-June 2020 and ensured the RJ community was able to stay together during a time of crisis. We remain forever grateful to hundreds of Guardian Angels in the RJ community that showed up in miraculous ways.

With so many institutions cutting back on financial aid due to the challenges with cOViD, i'm proud we are still able to offer scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year. i applaud Regis Jesuit as an institution with its efforts in doubling down on its fundraising energies to preserve the financial lifelines in place for those students who struggle to afford tuition.”

i just wanted to thank you and your team of volunteers for bringing food to not only my family, but many others as well. i’m sure that if it weren’t for your kind help, we would have gone hungry for at least a couple days a week. With many people losing their jobs and experiencing pay cuts, it’s really a miracle that we got help when we needed it the most. it really is true that not all heroes wear capes, and angels really do live among us. This act has even inspired me to go with my church to hand out food for the homeless on weekends! it makes me proud to be part of the Regis Jesuit community, because who knows if my family would have gotten the help we needed anywhere else. from the depths of my heart and soul, thank you very much.”

Jim Doyle ’60 has a family legacy at Regis Jesuit that spans more than 40 years. When his father was killed in World War II in 1944, Jim was just two years old. Two years later, his mom, Bernie, married Al Langfield and together they had a total of 11 children including five Regis Jesuit High School graduates (Jim ’60 and William† ’62 Doyle; Bob ’65, Rick ’79 and scott ’82 langfield). Jim’s Regis Jesuit journey began as a daily Mass server for the Jesuits while he was still in grade school. He remembers the donuts he received as a delicious reward (a tradition which still takes places after First Friday Mass today!). Handball games with Fr. Al Hahn, SJ and fellowship in the classroom with his Regis classmates are some of Jim’s treasured memories. After high school, Jim discerned becoming a Jesuit, but continued his education at Regis University (then Regis College), where he earned a degree in accounting and marketing. Jim later married Karen Bullard, and they have four children including three Regis Jesuit graduates (Brion ’90, Kevin ’92 and Barry ’98 Doyle). Karen also had three RJ alumni brothers (steve ’71, Mark ’78 and Rob ’83 Bullard). 30

Professionally, Jim spent his career in sales and owns Lake Dillon Mortgage Services along with his son, Kevin ’92. He has been also been a deacon for 15 years and serves in the Breckenridge/Silverthorne area. Serving God as a deacon is Jim’s favorite ministry.

Jim has a soft spot for Catholic education in his heart and continues to give back to Regis Jesuit. The motto Men and Women with and for Others resonates with him as he appreciates service with an emphasis based on faith in Jesus. Jim saw his sons become leaders spiritually and academically at Regis Jesuit and believes they were well-prepared as they began their college careers and next stages in life. Currently, one of Jim’s grandsons (Jack Doyle ’22) attends Regis Jesuit with two more grandchildren applying to join the Class of 2025.

Richard A. Schierburg t

Jim believes dedicated teachers, like Fr. Hahn, SJ who taught him Latin and guy gibbs ’47 who taught math, gave him a terrific foundation and modeled incredible values. This dedication and formation are what he counts on for his grandchildren. Jim is pleased with the ways Regis Jesuit teachers and staff continue to make the RJ experience the best it can be. We look forward to the next generation of Doyle graduates at Regis Jesuit.

When it comes to service, it is important that we not only receive but give as well. Regis Jesuit has invested in me and my future success. Recognizing this while I was a student, I told myself I would come back and return the favor in the form of service to future students and the school's mission. The Board of Trustees gives me an opportunity to help serve the mission of the school and programs like RJ Connect allow me to mentor students to help them achieve growth after Regis. The student experience at Regis is a unique one that our alumni understand on a deep level and it is our duty as men and women for others to guide and mentor our young Raiders. -Kenneth Stable ’05, Member of the Board of Trustees

FAMILY AND CLASSMATES ENDOW A SCHOLARSHIP IN HONOR OF TONY MANGUS ’88

On September 25, 2020, the Class of 1988 lost an icon and friend in Anthony (Tony) Vincent Mangus. Tony was an avid golfer, rugby player and coach, a pilot and, as he called it, a “sportsologist.” Most of all, he was a wonderful son, loving brother and an engaging uncle. As his classmates will attest, he was a loyal and passionate friend to countless people, a positive force with an amazing smile. “Tony was an integral leader of our class. A Raiderman, an athlete and all-around great individual that will be sorely missed by his friends and family,” recalled former classmate Bob Reich ’88. “The Class of 1988 has been a tight-knit class since walking through the Regis doors over 30 years ago. Tony’s passing has reminded us all about what an important part Regis was to our individual development and the development of these lifelong friendships.” In honor of Tony and to celebrate the tremendous impact he had on those who knew him, his family and RJ classmates came together to ensure that Tony will be remembered at Regis Jesuit in perpetuity through the Tony Mangus ’88 Memorial scholarship. “Starting the scholarship in Tony's name was a way for his legacy to live on and that was very important to his family,” said Annie McBournie, Tony's cousin. "He had very close relationships that grew from high school and were an integral part of his life. Regis gave him a family beyond his own to grow up with and cherish.” The endowed scholarship will enshrine Tony’s memory in a permanent way, as year after year it will provide necessary tuition assistance for students to receive a Regis Jesuit education. “Honoring Tony through a scholarship to help others have the opportunity to develop their own lifelong friendships resonated with all of us. We could think of no better way to honor Tony than to help fund a scholarship in his name,” said Reich.

Cale Woodley '16, son of Hockey Coach and RJ teacher Dan Woodley, passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2020, in Palm Coast, Florida. Cale graduated from Regis Jesuit in 2016 where he participated in numerous service projects and played hockey for three seasons. He won many championships and was most proud of being part of the Regis Jesuit teams that won the 2015 National title and the 2016 Colorado State Championship title. Behind his tough exterior, Cale was a beautiful young man who pursued life with an artistic soul. His sense of humor was pure wit and when you eventually caught the joke, his telling smile made it to his eyes and lit up the room. He was a fun-loving charmer who lived life to the fullest. Cale treasured his time at Regis Jesuit High School, especially his time on the Kairos retreat, where he experienced and learned to put “love in action.” Cale’s scholarship name indicates this beautiful tribute to his faith. Thanks to contributions made in honor of Cale, the funds from the Cale Woodley ’16 “Love in Action” Scholarship will be used to provide financial aid to deserving RJ students who will also benefit from this faith experience. 2019-20 PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Giving Impact: RJ Momentum Match

THE CIRCLE OF GRACE: Karyn Errington Memorial Scholarship Lights the Way for Future Female Leaders By Gerry Kratz

As a family, we started on the Regis Jesuit High School journey on February 15, 2014 when my granddaughter Emily (Wrede ’18) received her acceptance notice. We celebrated her achievement! Over the course of the next four years, we learned that this acceptance notice was an invitation to her to walk into "an invisible circle of grace," provided by the Regis Jesuit community. Emily received not only an academic education, but inspiration and strength and encouragement when needed. A Jesuit experience allows and encourages students to know what is going on in the world, what is good and what is not. By being educated, productive and inspired, RJ students can widen the "circle of grace" to initiate and encourage ways that make their world better. They develop self-confidence, self-esteem and a strong faith in God. Retreats, especially Kairos and service immersion trips, plant seeds that grow. In summer 2019, my sister, Karyn Errington, passed away from cancer. The ability to establish an endowed scholarship in my sister's name to benefit young women at Regis Jesuit provided me with the opportunity to continue Karyn's presence and her belief that the world is open to women to inspire, create and impact events. It also allowed me to open the opportunity for young women otherwise constrained by finances to have the RJ educational and spiritual experience. Karyn’s scholarship is opening the way. 38

REGIS JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL

My sister had a "pioneering spirit" and quietly moved through life's journey gently "ploughing" the road for other women to follow. She was a rescuer by nature, many times providing a safe haven in her own home for young women in need. In her role as a legal professional, she was a champion, an advocate and a protector of the hurt, the frightened, the lost. She spread her "circle of grace.” As we just paused to remember 9/11, I remember my sister being on the front lines nearly 19 years ago providing care for the search and rescue dogs working in the ruins of the Twin Towers. There was not a dog she did not love. I now have three grandchildren who have benefitted from the RJ experience and another anticipating being a participant when the time comes. Emily (Wrede ’18) is now a junior at Colorado State University and has carried with her the "circle of grace" that lights her way. After graduation, she would like to return to a Jesuit environment to continue her education. I am blessed and delighted now to watch my two grandsons, Chris and Nick (Occhipinti ’22) and Eric (Wrede '22) develop self-esteem, awareness of others and commit to things beyond themselves. They are motivated and challenged. We are blessed to share in the RJ community that is there to embrace and prepare them for their next step. Gerry Kratz is a grandparent of one alumna, two current students and one future Raider. In 2019, she established the Karyn Errington Memorial Scholarship utilizing matching funds from the RJ Momentum Match Endowed Scholarship Program.

RJ Momentum Match Inspires Donors In order to help increase Regis Jesuit's endowment, the Board made $1M available beginning December 1, 2019 with a 1:1 matching program for gifts to named endowed scholarships. The program has been so successful that only $400,000 remain to match gifts through June 30, 2021, or until the matching funds are exhausted. To learn more about the program that is spurring our donors and Regis Jesuit families to create new named endowed scholarships and/or grow existing scholarships, visit www.regisjesuit.com/ MomentumMatch

Jim and Kathy Jo Toole Receive St. John Francis Regis Award for Outstanding Service Jim and Kathy Jo Toole Toole have had an amazing impact at Regis Jesuit. While their five children (JT ’14, Kellyn ’15, lauryn ’16, Kevin ’18 and Mauryn ’20) were busy learning and enjoying RJ activities, Jim and Kathy Jo served in many different capacities during their 10 years as parents at Regis Jesuit. Kathy Jo was a leader in the Moms Club and chaired events such as Mom Prom, Father-Daughter Dance and held many important positions including treasurer and president. As vice president of the RPCA (now Raider Parent Association), Kathy Jo was a key part of unifying the efforts of the various parent clubs. She also served as a lead volunteer for many of their children’s sports teams. Jim has served on the capital projects committee and spends numerous hours helping their neighbors at the Jesuit Residence. According to fr. Tom Rochford ’64, “Jim contributes his expertise, often without us even asking. When it snows, I wait to hear the scrape of his Bobcat tractor clearing the snow off our driveway. He doesn’t disappoint.” Jim has also been very generous with his construction expertise. He helped renovate and expand the Jesuit community chapel, where daily Masses and many retreat planning sessions take place.

VOLUNTEERS:

The Heart of the RJ Community The support of parents, alumni and friends through volunteer assistance at Regis Jesuit is at the heart of what the Regis Jesuit community is all about - serving one another by acting as Men and Women with and for Others. We extend our gratitude to all of the dedicated parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, alumni and friends of the school who dedicate their time, treasure and talent to supporting our students and mission!

i volunteer at RJ because it keeps me connected to the great people at the school and it makes me feel like i am contributing something back to the place that was so important to our daughter’s moral and educational formation during four critical years. i started volunteering when our daughter entered RJ and it just felt like something i could not give up even after she graduated.” – frank Deluca (parent of sarah ’14)

i volunteer at RJHs to give back!” – Khela Dody (parent of David ’21)

When i volunteer at RJ, i not only get to meet new people, but i also feel like it's one big family all while helping out the school. it's a great place!” – Denise estep (parent of Mikey ’21)

Jim and Kathy Jo Toole received the St. John Francis Regis Award in recognition of their outstanding service for Regis Jesuit at the President’s Reception on December 6, 2019. We are grateful for all they have done and continue to do for the RJ community! The St. John Francis Regis Award for Outstanding Service is bestowed annually in commemoration of the namesake of Regis Jesuit High School. Jean-Francois Regis, a Jesuit priest who lived in the early 1600s, ministered to villagers in the mountains of southern France. Well-known for the accessibility of his heartfelt sermons, he focused his ministry around those at the margins—the homeless, unemployed and hungry—and was particularly devoted to ensuring the health and safety of young women. This award is given to those in our community, who, like Regis, seek the greater good for all and have provided exemplary service and support the mission and life of Regis Jesuit High School. 40

REGIS JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL

i like volunteering at RJ because the student body and the staff encapsulate such a diverse array of voices, talents and gifts. By participating alongside them or supporting their efforts in the background, i feel that i can help elevate and support this dynamic group to reach new heights.” – Katy Truitt (parent of Taylor ’21 and Hunter ’24)

NEW POOL STRUCTURE

HONORS EXCELLENCE OF RJ SWIM & DIVE PROGRAM For more than 20 years, the Regis Jesuit Swim & Dive teams have called the “bubble” their home. Along the walls of the structure, visitors see large banners hanging in recognition of the 26 State Championship titles.

2008 2009 2011 2012 2013 2014 2018

In the summer of 2020, as part of ongoing campus master planning efforts, GIRLS enhancements were made 2006 2013 to the pool facility including 2011 2014 the replacement of the pool cover, improved air quality and filtration, increased deck space and the installation of a new scoreboard, visitor stands and starting blocks. A new pool patio was also installed, and the new structure is starting to be informally referred to as the “hangar.” Students like Catherine Bradac ’21, are eagerly awaiting the upcoming season. “As a senior, this will be my fourth-year swimming for Regis Jesuit. I am super excited for this new structure. Seeing it in person, it looks so different! I think the air quality and environment of practices and competitions will be so improved. I am excited for the season to begin!” Gio Aguirre ’22 adds, “The new starting blocks have better grip and allow me to improve my diving off the blocks. I am inspired and grateful for the new structure.” Replacing the bubble with a Sprung structure was a $3 million campus renewal and innovation investment. Though this was a stretch for the school financially, the Board of Trustees, Planning & Major Projects Committee and school administration recognized the opportunity to address the air quality and overall experience for

users in a manner that aligns with our commitment to excellence and sustainability without excess. John Schmidt, a member of the Board of Trustees and chair of the Planning & Major Committee said, “Replacing the pool bubble was a strategic and pivotal piece in the Regis Jesuit master plan. I am very grateful to Ben Teeples, Director of Facilities & Grounds, for his research and discovering the new structure and to Mike Zoellner '74 of the Planning & Major Projects Committee for managing the project. A special thanks to the Board of Trustees in their never-ending belief in our future and to always moving forward, and the entire Planning & Major Projects Committee for their vision and service to making this excellent, new structure a reality for our Regis Jesuit championship Swim & Dive Program.” Designed by High Country Aquatics and constructed in 1999, the pool itself is in excellent condition and considered fast. Our facilities crew employs state-ofthe-art methods daily to ensure optimal water quality for swimmers and divers. The new Sprung structure makes this level of care more sustainable and affordable. Head Swim & Dive Coach Nick Frasersmith has already begun to see the benefits, stating, “I am so excited for the new structure. It is truly a breath of fresh air compared to the ‘bubble’ which will allow us to run quality training sessions. With the added room and bleachers on the west side, it will add new options for running swim meets and the possibility of hosting the Continental League meet. We are so fortunate and thankful to the Regis community who helped make this achievement a reality. I can't wait for the high school season to start!" Proud to be one of the only private high schools in metro Denver with a swimming facility, Regis Jesuit is excited to provide a better home for our thriving Swim & Dive Program and for them to start utilizing the new structure for the 2020-21 season.

On November 1, 2020 RJ community members gathered for a small Mass & Blessing of the New Pool Structure. 2019-20 PRESIDENT'S REPORT

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

A RESILIENT MISSION Dear Regis Jesuit Community, On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am grateful for the enduring mission of Regis Jesuit and the vibrant community committed to its success. Not only would I like to express deep gratitude for those mission partners listed in this report, but also to those who work relentlessly behind the scenes to serve our students, families and alumni community. I am humbled and inspired by passionate faculty, staff and volunteers for the care and leadership they demonstrate daily to Regis Jesuit. I would like to welcome new board members Kelly Millen and Scott Fisher. We also thank our dedicated and long-standing members who completed their terms with us this summer: Emily Ballinger, Michael McDonald, and Tony Naes '80. They generously contributed their time, talent and treasure to stewarding the organization and advancing the mission of Regis Jesuit. The experience, wisdom and passion that my fellow trustees bring to the institution is extraordinary. I am grateful to each of them for their ongoing leadership. Because of healthy financial management practices by the school, philanthropic gifts and sustained enrollment, even in uncertain times, we were able to remain stable and flexible—both today and for the future. This was evident by the school’s commitment at the onset of the pandemic to fulfill its financial aid awards to its families and meet emergent needs of those directly affected by the economic impacts of 48

REGIS JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL

the pandemic. With the help of our donor community, strong enrollment and a robust financial aid program, this commitment to mission continues into the current school year with $6.7 million in financial aid serving more than 560 students, a 50% increase over last year. Additionally, during a time of little visibility, the expertise and guidance of our board committees helped the school to take the necessary steps for mission permanency including developing contingency plans amid uncertainty during the pandemic in the spring and summer of 2020; stewarding the school’s growing endowment; and investing in the renewal of campus facilities to provide safety and excellence to our students. As a proud alum, parent of alums and Board chair, I am encouraged by our past experiences and hopeful for Regis Jesuit’s bright future. Knowing how fragile life can be, I commend and appreciate our community of Men and Women with and for Others who bring resilience, generosity and love to the mission of Regis Jesuit. There is no community I would rather go through a pandemic with than you. Thank you for your continued support of Regis Jesuit and our ongoing pursuit of the magis. AMDG,
