■Name: Chip ■ Perfect ■Age: 56 ■ ■Address: ■ 20760 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Lawrenceburg, IN 47025 ■Political ■ Party: Republican ■Office ■ Sought: Indiana State Senate – District 43 ■Incumbent: ■ No ■Employment: Perfect ■ North Slopes, Entrepreneur ■Education: Bachelor’ ■ s Degree, Purdue University ’79 – Ag Education ■Family ■ Status: Married to Ellen for 29 years, 3 Children: Alex, Paige, Grace ■Public ■ Office Experience: First Time Candidate ■Public ■ Service Experience: I have been a board member of the Dearborn Co. Chamber of Commerce and am a past President. I have been a board member of the Dearborn County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and am a past President. I have served on the Dearborn Co. 4-H Fair Board and am currently serving on the Dearborn County Hospital Board of Directors. I have served on the Midwest Ski Areas Association Board of Directors for 18 years and have held every office including President. ■Awards/Achievements: ■ I am currently serving as Chairman of the National Ski Areas Association and am the first operator of a Midwestern Ski area to hold that office. I have been selected as a distinguished Ag Alumni by Purdue University and was one of eight alumni selected in 2012 to participate in the long standing Purdue Old Masters Program. I am also a past recipient of the Dearborn County Businessman of the Year Award ■Interests/Hobbies: ■ I truly enjoy creating opportunities through new business ventures especially when I can help match young talented people with an opportunity. Ellen and I enjoy traveling, especially when we get the opportunity to travel with our kids. I also enjoy working on my farm. 1. I grew up in southeastern Indiana. I have been able to live my whole life here, work here, and raise my family here. It is who I am. I now
have the opportunity to give back to the area that has been the center of my life, by serving in the State House as your State Senator. I was honored when Senator Nugent asked me if I would run. It is a responsibility I take very seriously and one for which I am well prepared. 2. As a small business owner, I feel this is one of the most important questions! When I consider hiring someone for a position, the top priorities are their qualifications and how they will perform given the parameters of the job. My skill set matches up with the job of being a State Senator very well. There is an incredible amount of information that comes at you as a legislator; it will be new territory for all of the candidates. I have the experience of starting up 12 different businesses, most of them were new ventures where I had virtually no experience. When we started Perfect North Slopes Ski area on our family farm 34 years ago, I had only been to another ski area once! I learn on the fly and have proven that over and over again. I was also an Ag Teacher early in my career which helped me become comfortable in front of a group. I have had the opportunity to give a lot of presentations and motivational speeches to a variety of different associations and students. I have the most public speaking experience of the three candidates. I have never been one to be hesitant to speak up. This district is going from the most experienced State Senator in Johnny Nugent who served 36 years, to a freshman Senator no matter which candidate is elected. I am not intimidated. I am the first Ski Area

We have well maintained roads/ bridges, county law enforcement and a judicial system all second to none. All County Departments are in a constant state of change to make access easier for taxpayers. 1. I feel I am very qualified and experinced to continue to serve the residents of Dearborn County. I am very conservative with allocating the tax monies of the voters, but will almost always vote for highway improvements. As a forward thinking conservative, I also believe in solving problems as they occur. What we don’t fix today will not go away, but will continue to worsen and more costly to repair. 2. My experience on Council and the experience of 30 years of
manufacturing management. Many of requirements are the same such leadership, budgets and the most important containing costs for the County. I feel I have good working relationships with other county employees that allows progress. 3. I believe one of the issues is a tighting of our budget spending for the next four years. Gaming boat monies will continue to decline, but we are still fortunate to still have help in that area. We must face facts that a third courtroom must be provided for and to not let upkeep slip on the campus. To keep taxes at the current level or less, the only viable way to hold the line on any tax increases is to bring in either new business’ or expansions of current ones. County Council must support and encourage the efforts of the Dearborn County Redevelopment Board.

I would like to retain the office of Clay Township Trustee since I have a proven record of performing the duties well. 2. Over the past 11 years, I have put processes in place that have
improved the efficiency of the office duties, for example, implementation of pledging township assistance funds via telephone to utility companies on behalf of township assistance recipients has expedited payments to those customer accounts and prevented disconnection of services and related charges. 3. Fair and responsible disbursement of township assistance funds and timely disbursement of fire protection funds in conjunction with the unique contractual 60/40 split with the town of Dillsboro regarding payment of fire department expenses.
parency and eliminate the backroom deals that create unfair advantages for some while leaving behind others. Those in the statehouse should never be in a position to help choose whose businesses win and who lose; it should be the free market. If elected, I will not abuse my position in the statehouse and will swiftly eliminate any environment where connections and knowing the right people win out over ideas and competition. That is not what Indiana is about and that is not what I am about. On the state level, I will introduce legislation making Personal Finance a required class to graduate high school in Indiana. Too many people learn financial lessons the hard way in life. By teaching concepts like debt, investing, mortgages, credit cards, etc… students will discover skills that they will immediately use in the real world. Each Hoosier will save thousands in their life with that knowledge. When fiscally viable, funding Pre-K and full-day kindergarten must become one of the highest priorities for Indiana. The earlier we invest in our kids, the more the results will grow and compound upon themselves. Lastly, Indiana needs to maintain its position as the best place for business in the Midwest. If specific taxes exist that can cause businesses to look elsewhere, then we must focus on how to mitigate that tax on businesses without causing debilitating losses in revenue to the state and local municipalities.
