Publisher’s Note

To me, the New Year is not just a ritual, but a celebration of new hopes and dreams. It is an opportunity to start fresh and offer us an opportunity to introspect deeper. Let us welcome the New Year with new aspirations . In this issue, I present a piece of my personal hopes for 2013 with our business in visual imaging called “The Looop Photography”. Together with the three other owners, we hope that 2013 will bring a new milestone for the company with accelerated growth as we introduce a new technology - CGI - to the market. Read more about my friends and business partners behind the Looop Photography in our cover story. It was indeed a fun experience to do a photo shoot with them as we share our enthusiasm for our business. As economists predict that Indonesia will remain sunny in 2013, it seems most fitting that in this issue we focus on business and investment. Flip the pages to learn about exciting business opportunities in property, arts and other forms of investment. You can also read about Jessica Schwarze, a marketing professional, as she shares her hopes for 2013 where she is given aggressive targets by her employer - software giant SAP. Another elegant girl is Fidela Maidiana Santosa who has been blooming as interior designer, developer and marketing manager. Aside from young marketers, there is Noni Sri Ayati Purnomo, the super lady behind the great success of Blue Bird Group. Hans Nugroho and Raymond Nangoy from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry satisfyingly highlight the prospective business in 2013 and the future. Also, many thanks to Robert Mancini for an inspiring story to boost Alfred Dunhill in Asia. While we welcome the year with optimism, flip through the pages and enjoy the best in lifestyle. Wishing you all a wonderful New Year !

Warm Regards

our gentlemen gathered at The Looop Studio located at SCBD area for this month’s cover shoot, and it is simply palpable that more than business partners, they are close friends. The photo shoot is filled with joy and laughter, as though best friends have gathered after a long absence. “The four of us in one place, is an occasion to celebrate. However, this does not prevent us from keeping tabs on one another via frequent text messages. The phrase “jauh di mata, dekat di hati aptly sums up our relationship” says Setiawan Sudjie laughingly. Setiawan is the initiator of this shoot, and as you know is the publisher at large at Registry Magazine. “This month we would like to highlight our company ‘The Looop’ and the interesting story behind it” explains Setiawan further. The gentlemen presented here-forth – Setiawan Sudjie, Sam Nugroho, Hartono Hosea and Heru Desanto are behind this company, a lucrative digital imaging business which we will discuss further in the article. It is indeed interesting to note that the four gentlemen each have different backgroundsand running successful businesses in different fields on their own. Yet a few years ago, they unite in their love of photography – a passion that has created a strong bond between them. This mutual love of photography has resulted in an exciting joint venture which is quite the phenomenon in the industry. The Looop is a cutting-edge visual imaging company that pushes the boundaries in visual creativity through the seamless combination of talent and technology. With clients that include the most recognizable global and local brands, the company is set to take off to the next level of success in 2013 and beyond.

Sam Nugroho Sam Nugroho, the brainchild behind The Looop, has been in the photography field for over 20 years. In the industry, he is no doubt a name to be reckoned with and has executed prestigious projects across the globe. With his background in architecture, impeccable details, flawless lighting and compelling concepts are his forte. “My goal is to bring forth an emotion from every shot, this way it creates an impact to the audience. At the end, it is always about the impact we create.” He shares. Sam, who has a calm and charismatic disposition, emphasizes that The Looop - contrary to common belief - is not merely a photography but a creative imaging company. “It’s a huge difference!” Sam stresses. “While there are many photography companies that do excellent work, few offer the full range of services.” The Looop is able to offer the full range of services related to creative imaging, thanks to their experienced and highly skilled staff, as well as the company’s aggressive investment in state-of-the-art technology. One of the technologies the company would like to highlight is CGI or Computer Generated Imagery. “This will be the trend in Indonesia starting 2013” says Sam confidently, as globally this technology is already widely used. Sam elaborates “There’s no doubt that CGI is changing the landscape of image creation as we know it. At this day and age it is hard to find an image globally that wasn’t in some way touched by a computer as a way to enhance the end result. CGI offers up new opportunities for creative freedom as well as a way to cut costs and deliver images in a fraction of the time previously required.” But this doesn’t mean that it’s either photography or CGI. “The reality is that good CGI simply isn’t possible without actual photography working behind the scenes. And perhaps even more importantly, the most successful computer generated images are almost always a hybrid of real photography and CGI.” Just a few years ago, Sam decided to open up his business to new investors not only to support his aggressive expansion plans, but also leverage on new networking opportunities. He was particularly cautious in his quest for the right business partners, but luck was on his side as he found them.

Hartono Hosea Hartono Hosea,a hospitality and automotive mogul who is very friendly, kind and downto-earth, sees it as a privilege to be able to work together with Sam. “I’ve met Sam in 2010 and we became fast friends within a year. “ After the friendship materialized and they saw that they would work well together, they formed a partnership under The Looop. This was an exciting moment for Hartono, because photography is his deepest passion; and talent. Although “just” a hobby, Hartono is often sought for commercial projects and has done fashion photo shoots for over ten of the country’s top lifestyle publications. In addition, he has also been appointed as the spokesperson for Nikon Indonesia- the only person being given this post who is not a full time photographer by profession.Hartono has tried numerous hobbies over the years and as a person who easily gets bored, he would abandon a hobby to pursue the next one. “But it is completely different with photography.” says this man who loves to take underwater shots as well. On his partnership with Sam, he says : “Sam and I connect so well not only because we share a love for photography and the arts, but also common beliefs. We both believe in the power of network. We both believe that in order to be successful we have to become a good people first before anything else.” Now with The Looop , Hartono , who owns 60 outlets of the successful Sun Motor Group and over ten hotels in Indonesia , has anoutlet for his hobby. “I am also excited to share that in one of my new hotels, I will dedicate a large space for the most fascinating studio for The Looop Wedding photography, a division we will launch soon.” He continues.

Heru Desanto Heru Desanto, who was introduced to Sam through Hartono, has also invested in the company two years ago. Just like Hartono, Heru runs his own successful business and although photography is “just” his hobby, he has won several accolades for his work. In fact, in a few weeks he will fly to Qatar to receive a global award in landscape photography, the first and only Indonesian to be given such recognition. Heru is very humble and likes to talk down his achievements, yet he is proud and excited about The Looop. His background in auditing, and his background in starting and running a very successful Arowana business, equips him with operational knowhow to contribute to The Looop. “We are trend makers!” says this man who loves adventure and the outdoors. Heru agrees that there are many photographers in the market, but The Looop offers a very strong differentiation with world class skillset and technology. “Having experienced entrepreneurs backing The Looop up also adds additional value- added benefits. We are professionals in the highest sense.” Heru finds it fascinating to be involved in two different worlds- one in business and finance, another in the creative field. “Having these elements in my life is very fulfilling. It provides balance.” he says. A believer in building a business based on solid integrity, Heru connects very well with the other partners. “With good intentions, and doing things the right way, combined with our mutual passion - I am confident we are headed in the right direction.” He concludes.

Setiawan Sudjie Finally, Setiawan Sudjie, our beloved editor at large – and a mining businessman- joins in the conversation. Humorous and always seeming to be in a good mood he says laughing: “I am the only one amongst the four of us who is relatively new in venturing into photography.” But Setiawan certainly understands the creative world, as he has been running Registry for many years now. “The Looop offers a strong differentiation with our aggressive investments in our tools. We even have our own small chopper to enable aerial photography!” Setiawan says proudly. Setiawan is also planning to utilize the services of The Looop to take the most breath taking images of his mines across Indonesia. He is still focused in his lucrative mining business but vehemently enjoys the creative industry. “Being involved in different fields broadens my horizon. Each field provides me with a new way to look at things, and it enables me to ensure each of my endeavors complement each other.” Setiawan, who loves people and socializing, also finds their cooperation couldn’t be any better. “We are similar in so many different ways. We have this business together; but above that we are close friends.” While each of these four individuals have their own unique characteristics and their own field of expertise, there is definitely a common interest shared amongst these four men. It is a deep passion and love for photography and the creative world that has emboldened them to come together and create the finest photography studio in Indonesia. They are excited about the future prospects of their investment in The Looop. Most importantly, despite their commendable achievements in life, and sharp business acumen; these four friends remain disarmingly humble and friendly. These characteristics will bring them to continuous success and a friendship that will last through the ages.

FLOWER DIAMOND An Opulent Garden Once, Sia Furler, Benjamin Levin, Mikkel S. Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen had a project together which was all about diamond and love. ‘Shine bright like a diamond… When you hold me, I am alive. We are like the diamonds in the sky’ is the part lyric they wrote harmoniously to be sung by Rihanna as we often listen to very recently. That’s what diamond is for, to love and loved. And this belief also put in the heart of this latest masterpiece collection from Singapore. Beautifully crafted rings conjure up a fairytale world, where the finest handmade Flower Diamond is perfectly echoed by the charming of greeneries. Inspired by butterflies, flowers and the colors Mother Nature, the favorite secret garden is reflected into the diamond as perfect as Eden. Catch diamond-encrusted butterflies flitting among exotic blooms of rose cut sapphires and diamonds set in 18k gold. This elegant collection offers a beautifully handcrafted cohort of statement rings, dramatic earrings and bangles as well as classic pieces. Pictures elaborate butterfly rings with brown and white as well as black and white diamonds set in 18k gold. Equally spectacular are the cocktail rings shaped like gorgeous flowers studded with colored gemstones.

The sapphire and rose cut diamond ring set in 18k rose gold is a collector’s item in the making. Even more interesting is a pair of blue sapphire hoop earrings which look like dew drops. Nevertheless, the best of all must surely be the centerpiece of this collection: a wide and magnificent filigree cuff bangle delicately woven with brown and white diamond buds set in 18k white gold. Besides Rose cut diamonds, the other fine gemstones in this collection include emeralds and tanzanite. They are cleverly fashioned into bangles, rings and earrings set in 18k white or Rose gold. What makes this particular collection special is the fact that Flower Diamond painstakingly sorted unheated rose cut sapphires to go with the handpicked diamonds. Unheated stones are not easy to find. Hence, the unique handcrafted quality of these fine jewelry pieces. Now step into the secret garden and just prepared to be dazzled. Flowers, Butterflies of both; the choice is yours. The main highlight of an opulent garden, the collection perfectly demonstrates elegance, grace and compassion.

BREITLING Story of The Legend

Pop quiz: what was the first wrist instrument to share in the conquest of space? Answer: None other than the one we have known very well for decades, a chronograph of Breitling Navitimer. It’s the cult pilot’s watch, which was created in 1952 with its famous circular slide rule serving to perform all operations relating to air-bone navigation. The Navitimer naturally asserted itself as the ideal instrument in taking up the challenge. It successfully passed all the required tests, and on May 24th 1962, Lt Commander Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth three times aboard the Aurora 7 capsule. Dating back to the early 1960s, when world citizens concerned were all about the space race. All the ways are to go beyond impossibility at that moment. In the midst, the Americans launched the Mercury program intended to develop manned flights. They were looking for an accurate and reliable chronograph capable of withstanding exceptional conditions and for sure, a precision on the space. With this in mind, they naturally turned to Breitling, the official supplier to world aviation, as a privileged partner of the finest hours in aeronautical history. Its proven quality became an absolute necessity for that extraordinary trip. And mission accomplished. Definitely that date would not be forgotten for Breitling and the history of chronograph forevermore. And to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historical feat, the brand is launching into orbit a new Navitimer Cosmonaute. This limited edition timepiece is distinguished by its 24-hour display, its manual-winding mode (two nods to the original 1962 chronograph) as well as the Aurora 7 mission insignia engraved on the case-back. Also, it’s equipped with a high-performance Manufacture Breitling movement, entirely developed and produced in the company workshops. It was developed by the Breitling engineers and watchmakers based on Caliber 01, the world’s best chronograph movement. It is also endowed with all the assets of this exceptional engine, including an original column-wheel structure, maximum reliability, security and functionality, unfaltering sturdiness and exceptional precision. Furthermore, this marvelous chronograph received a chronometer certificate granted by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute). Issued in a 1,962-piece limited edition, the Navitimer Cosmonaute features a black dial with silver counters. The dial motif is created using the refined “par épargne” process on a sterling silver base, thereby guaranteeing the peerless radiance and readability of the indications. In addition to the vintage design of Navitimer models, the engraved case-back also carries a Celsius/Fahrenheit conversion scale.

To easily recognize, there is silver dial s-shape guilloche dial with silver-tone hands and diamond hour markers. Also, we notice its luminescent hands and deployment clasp with push button release. The most significant change is to the case. The traditional “horned lugs” of the Link has been replaced by the new round case, connecting to the bracelet via a single central lug. This detail alone gives the watch a new character. It both emphasizes the roundness of the case and gives the watch a lighter, more elegant look. The case itself is polished stainless steel on most models, with a 18k Gold/ Steel case also available. Depending on the dial and material combination, you can choose from either a 34.5mm case or a smaller 29mm case. Available in steel and gold, the brand complements you with optional diamonds, a range of colors, and precise quartz mechanisms, TAG Heuer Link ladies watches are the perfect accessory for any modern woman who has perfect desire to look fabulous and classy, at the same time. SAINT LAURENT PARIS Resort 2013

Founded in 1961, it was the result of prefect partnership in fashion by Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre BergĂŠ with expertise in readyto-wear design. Often shorter as YSL, the brand was further renamed as Saint Laurent in 2012. A famous signature of this brand, long before the trend in 90s, was glamorized clothing for women but inspired from the male wardrobe, such as the blazer, the tuxedo, pant suit and leather jacket. Further, it has been moving up and down in the world fashion industry, with the

54

latest issue of a newly-appointed head designer of the house, Hedi Slimane, also in 2012, a year of transformation for YSL. Not as usual fashion house in this world, the designer has been too much secretive. Some said the collection is very tailored and sharp. At least, he takes an exclusive approach to distinguish them from other houses. Even the previous two collections were only shown to buyers, leaving the critics out of all the fun.

The resort collection is said to be inspired by the early days of Saint Laurent, thinking of the famous photo Helmut Newton took for French Vogue in 1975 on Rue Aubriot. It was with a nude woman in stilettos standing next to another woman in a skinny tux with a blouse dripping a bow. For accessories, the collection is said to be significantly more expensive than Stefano Pilati’s era, the previous head designer. Colors range from black, white, and gray to red and fuchsia, with

sequins and animal prints, as well. Initial feedback to the collection was said to be resoundingly positive. Dominantly, the bags are under high-luxury concept of clutch and satchel. They seem fabulous to be with you in glam night party, indeed, but might be not a perfect match to spend your leisure time with cocktails under bright sunshine in the resort. Anyway, that’s what Hedi Slimane exhibits to the public, unique and different as major impression.

EMPORIO ARMANI Cruise 2013

Colors, Glamorous From highlight grey to bronze and fabulous orange, Emporio Armani envisioned the colors and body precision into luxurious attires for Cruise 2013 collection. The calm colors would create the proper effect to attract attention meanwhile on vacation, without being to flashy. Armani satisfyingly interprets this trend with glam accessories into shoes and totes, while for more dazzling style, a few tailored-suits in glam white and chocolate color makes a stunning appearance on the runway and leisure, at the same time. Conceptually, Giorgio Armani went back to the reality of Emporio Armani’s basics. It balances rigorous lines with fluid silhouettes. A pure style is brought to an extreme pitch that reflects a clean attitude, a way of being and expressing natural simplicity but never too affected on another side. Urban, functional outfits dominated the lineup, including cropped soft leather blazers paired with simple cotton and linen parts. Also, there is a fitted linen skirt with a matching double-breasted jacket. Breezier looks included a sleeveless, flowing silk camisole and skirt and a floral silk crepe de chine top in saturated tones with darted silk shorts. Considering the colors, a palette comprised of neutral hues with touches of gold and a range of warmer cinnamon and spice colors emphasizes the soft forms and perfect shapes. The effect is to frame the wearer’s skin as a form of natural make-up. So, no matter skin complexion, all tones offer perfect appearance for look’s sake, even more vibrant.

CHLOÉ

Spring-Summer 2013 Aligned with the fashion luxury of Gaby Aghion, this season Chloé exhibits the bright vintage for this season: Spring-Summer 2013. Clare Waight Keller takes cues of spirit from the house’s founder. And it reflects into the nuances of white, deep navy blue and for sure brightened by luminous touches of powder pink and sunflower ochre run through this collection. Be ready for your fun and sunny cocktail party in the beach-side cottage. The three-piece suit is updated and given the “pull-on and go” treatment, a signature of ready-to-wear design by Chloe. creased pants and asymmetric front fastenings in caddy and natural tussah silk, whilst elongated jackets are layered over tone-on-tone waistcoats. This collection is reminiscent of outfits that wealthy European women wore while having tea, but a youthful edge with ruffled skirts and sleeves are also there. Again, it’s a perfect representation of spring and breezy weather in the mid-year. Airy feel is given by an idea of loose-fitting tops with big sleeves. More, Bermudas and oversized t-shirts in silk jacquard are adorned with oversized hibiscus flowers bringing an element of laid-back attitude. The knitwear is characterized by touches of iridescent-lurex and curved sleeves, giving it a modern feel. No one piece of clothing from the show hugs the body nor does it show off a woman’s figure, but the minimalism and simplicity of the collection compliments the female’s arms and legs.

The fabric that covers the main body is unconstructed and has movement, and even the most formal of designs boast comfort and class. Rounded and soft volumes are played out in transparent organza silks with 0circular cut borders and curved sleeves, silk tailored into fluid pants of appliqué flowers. Flirty sun- pleated dresses in organza and tulle are diaphanous yet structural. Lengths are either cropped, midi or maxi making for easy and effortless layering. In addition to this, Chloé does not forget to present bags with perfect curves, feminine and sophisticated, that come in sumptuous leathers and patchworks of exotic skins. Also, Thin strapped leather sandals and heels in metallic silvers, gold and bronzes, embrace a futuristic spirit with graphic white-edged soles and thick wooden heels.

True, it is a vision of vacation set in the historical framework of the Pellicano Hotel in Porto Ercole – a renowned destination among the international jet-set, as seen through the lens of Slim Aarons and Juergen Teller. As core design, find two-button blazers with half lining, overshirts worn tucked out, safari jackets, turtlenecks. Also, there are hooded jackets and peacoats plus windbreakers for a ride on a scooter. Quality textures is determined by all used materials which here recalling denim and chambray. Vintage-style calfskin is for a lived-in look on jackets, lightweight shirt textiles for outwear and pants. Then, there is cotton jersey for soft safari jackets and fine, also thin cashmere for sweaters. To highlight, suede reminiscent of the Sixties and Seventies comes up again with its corduroy appearance and shaded effects. A new interpretation of the House’s iconic Flora pattern appears as lining for jackets as well as on lightweight muslin shirts and nylon swim trunks. For accessories, it’s definitely on-the-go with seaside essentials. New PVC-free luggage sees the reinterpretation of the interlocking GG pattern with stars for a nautical style. REGISTRY INDONESIA

Introducing luxury at its finest, the Auto One Group presents the Chrysler 300C. With composed handling, powerful engine choices and a luxurious, well-equipped interior, car enthusiasts will agree that the Chrysler 300C is among the most refined of affordable large cars. Applying the Pentastar V6 engine, 3.600 cc and 286 horsepower, it is a prestigiously large five-seated sedan with a quiet but fierce engine. The Chrysler 300C features an elegant but masculine design; a design that has a purpose. A more edgy version would be the Chrysler 300C SRT-8. To differentiate, the SRT version looks particularly mean and sounds monstrous too. This lavish automobile weighs about 2000kg and it feels like it is never going to stop once it gets up to speed. Its 6.4-litre V8 with 6.400 and HEMI-470 horsepower is a fantastic engine and delivers the kind of large-displacement thunder akin to the Mercedes AMG 6.2-litre V8, which is slowly being phased out. “Driving or owning this car will most certainly give you a ‘super star image’,” Wisly Jayadi added. ROLLS ROYCE Phantom Series II Make the Best Better

80

REGISTRY INDONESIA

“We should think of Phantom design as a piece of popular, classical music. Over time this has the possibility of different interpretations without losing the essential melody that we know so well,” tells Ian Cameron, Chief Designer. Since its first official launching in 2003, Rolls-Royce Phantom has been a victorious evolution of super-luxury car that set a new benchmark of excellence in the class. Every Phantom is handbuilt at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, England. It fabulously combines state-of-theart technology and engineering with timeless contemporary design, to express the redefinition of supercar as it is, the Phantom family. Also, from seamstresses to surface finish technicians and French polishers, it takes 60 pairs of hands to design, craft and construct a Rolls-Royce before it’s ready for its owner. Created with the desire to build the best car in the world, Phantom combines compelling charisma with design cues that are unmistakably Rolls-Royce. The Phantom family is the result of complete creative and engineering freedom. In short, it is designed without compromise. Each member of the family displays a unique personality of its own but all continue to share the powerful presence for which Phantom is renowned. It definitely includes the new RollsRoyce Phantom Series II, an artful fusion of traditional restrained British elegance and rigorous German engineering. Introduced worldwide in May 2012, the new one will definitely impress all car lovers in a particular way. Compared to previous series which was good, it is superb and would make anyone driving inside to be standout. It represents a classy-slash-elegant style on the road. There are improvements all round. The series II is even smoother than the old one. Many thanks to a new eight-speed gearbox mated to the twelve-cylinder motor. It is more economical because of the extra gears, but then, most Rolls owners have not been known to care much about fuel bills. The suspension has also been tweaked subtly to make it more sporty but still in aristocratic style.

To highlight, one of new features is a modern front race, that specifying rectangular LED headlamp clusters, indicator strip and new front bumper design. It becomes the first car manufacturer to offer full LED headlamps as standard, incorporating curve light functionality and adaptive headlamps for enhanced road illumination. Also, three new wheels finish across the model range and re-designed Phantom Saloon rear bumper now features a stainless steel highlight. Considering the usage of latest technology, it complements by a fully updated satellite navigation system with 3D views, guided tours, enhanced points of interest and composite route planner function. The new Phantom does do a great job of amplifying comfort levels and that feeling of luxury. Meticulous attention to detail ensures Phantom’s performance is simply a matter of seamless and effortless

progress. There is a new eight speed automatic gearbox and rear differential complement the peerless direct injection V12 engine, improving its personal performance and ride experience. Fuel consumption improves by ten percent across the range and CO2 emissions fall ten percent. The six-and-three-quarter-litre engine makes adequate power, which is a bit of an understatement. The 453bhp and 73.4kgm of torque gets to 100kph in 5.7sec, but it never feels too quick. Overall, what Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II satisfyingly offers is more than just a simple luxury of driving experience. Covered by a timeless classic style and all upgrading details, Rolls-Royce has followed the principle of Sir Henry Royce with the series II: take the best that exists and make it better.

FRANZ COLLECTION INC. Tradition, Nature and Technology

A moment of looking at tiny porcelain on the desk reminds deeply with an old book that stated ‘common clay must go through the heat and fire of the furnace to become porcelain, but once porcelain; it can never become clay again.’ True, to make magnificent masterpiece of porcelain, it should go thorough very long process, indeed. The result is never disappointed though, on which we can enjoy time to time as an artwork. This may have inspired Franz Chen from Taiwan to appreciate its gorgeous beauty. Founded in 2001, Franz Collection Inc. has been sold to 56 countries at more than 6,000 points of sales, including in China, Germany, Japan and absolutely Indonesia. With porcelain, it

carries the mission to deliver cultural values through porcelain and to learn from nature. The little creatures leap on porcelain, which is itself a combination of Eastern and Western aesthetics, based on the charm and beauty of nature. The Chinese humanism of elegance, humbleness and respect for the Earth and the Haven are perfectly carried by its collection. In return, it shows unique, friendly, fashionable, humanistic and artistic features. Aside from appreciating the eco and tradition, Franz Collection also keeps track with modern technology. Let us mention under-cut, a ceramic ornament method, and under-glaze painting techniques make the products more three dimensional.

And for summer 2012, it marks the eleventh anniversary and has been blessed with a third award from the United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization. The devotion to creativity and innovation drives directly the brand to present what must be available in Asia. There a long list of collection: Celebration of Glory and Prosperity (limited edition), Treasure of Charms (Orchid collection), Strength and Will (Blue Poppy collection), Cosmos of Color, Family Fun Elephant and the favorite one, Florissima. It has been another banner year for Franz as they just launched a great exhibition at the National Museum of Porcelain in Selb, Germany with over 1,500 pieces of Franz on display. Bloomingdale’s 59th street store in New York City just introduced the Franz Collection along with Jean Boggio for Franz at a floral design event that attracted an international audience.

ROLEX Gold and Diamond Like the fashion world, the watch industry is susceptible to fickle consumer desires. Sometimes it is about color, material or model. These three are satisfyingly mingled into one by Rolex’s creativity and excellence via a launch of the Oyster Perpetual Datejust. Holding the theme of femininity with spirited reincarnation of the legendary series, this model combines bold aesthetic in pink gold and diamonds. The pink gold dial of this resolutely feminine DATEJUST is finished with a contemporary black lacquer motif and 262 set diamonds, which make for a stunning contrast. Ten diamonds in pink gold settings mark the hours with shimmering splendour. The bezel also pays homage to precious stones. It bears 60 baguette-cut diamonds – one for each second – and, just as delicately set, 120 brilliant-cut diamonds on its edge.

LENOVO ThinkPad X1 Carbon Lenovo comes back with a list of characteristics: weightless, supportive and affordable. And our selection goes to the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, claimed as the world’s lightest 14-inch Ultrabook. It’s 20.8 mm and less than 3.5 pounds with 1.600 x 900 screen, a carbon fiber chassis, an Ivy Bridge chipset. Also, this complemented by built-in 3G and a backlit ThinkPad keyboard, plus that signature red pointing stick. As for battery life, it can stand for more than 8 hours of runtime, with RapidCharge technology by Lenovo for charging effectively. It would be very good news indeed, a touch-screen Ultrabook with decent battery life.

ARBUTUS Open-Dial Skeleton Arbutus, the New York-based mechanical watch brand, expands its collection into open-dial skeleton watches targeted at novice watch collectors in Indonesia. Beautiful, unique and expressive are truly representing the fine art of mechanical watch-making. The fascinating interaction of the watch’s inner mechanical movements in full view through the open-dial indeed makes a real statement for the wearer as an authentic watch lover. Opt for the Arbutus Skeleton AR406 Series which features full Arabic numerals on the watches around an open-work dial that reveal the interiors of the mechanical movement. But the open-work is not completely uncovered here. There is a barrel-shaped detail featuring the Arbutus logo crisscrossing over the open-work dial, making for a unique design twist that will be a great talking point over cocktails.

Actually, the name “Tatou” comes from the French word for Armadillo, yet the inspiration for the lamp’s design were overlapping strips of Japanese armor. Its antique steel cover is a center-stage that brings out both nuances of endurance and strength, complemented by dynamism and flexibility. Further, the luminary concept was initiated by four identical elements that creating a harmonious ambiance of light and shadow through the perforated pattern.

FERRARI FRAGRANCE Passion of the Race

It’s passionate, forceful. Ferrari is launching the latest member of its fragrance family, and together the supercar is going fast and furious with this one. It’s the Ferrari Red Power, a fragrance dedicated to the authentic Ferrari man. The first note is a rush of freshness from Calabrian Bergamot and Sicilian blood orange, shifting up a gear with dashes of lavender and red pepper. It accelerates through meticulously tuned florals and spices, violet and geranium leaves giving way to warm Mediterranean notes of cardamom and rosemary. A spirit of racer is represented by the clear glass bottle embossed with the silver Prancing Horse and the Ferrari logo is classically proportioned for strength and elegance.

DOT MARC JACOBS Collaboration Polka Dots, a classic playful pattern from the United Kingdom today uniquely collaborates two iconic brands, Marc Jacobs and Vespa. CALLAWAY GOLF The Most Adjustable Ever

To be the lowest CG of any adjustable driver delivers fast ball speed, Callaway Golf Company (NYSE:ELY) today introduces Razr Fit Xtreme Driver. Also, it reduces spin for maximum distance. Exhibited in Rowville, Australia, on November 14, 2012, it’s the longest fully adjustable driver Callaway has ever measured. The RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver debuts new technologies to advance overall performance and promote distance gains over its predecessor. “We believe that this is going to be the longest driver around, because Callaway is the only company that could produce an adjustable driver using multi materials,” tells Dr. Alan Hocknell, the senior VP of Research and Development for Callaway. “It has many features which makes it very long and consistent.” There is a powerful new feature to highlight: Speed Frame Face Technology, a result of perfect combination of two previous technologies, VFT (variable face thickness) and Hyperbolic Face Technology. It maximizes stiffness and stress

distribution across the face for more efficient energy transfer. Further, it enables a face that has a larger and more consistent sweet spot and higher ball speeds, even on off-center contact. It also features the lowest Center of Gravity (CG), better fueling distance gains and a new weighting system that offers golfers a greater range of shot shaping options. “The RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver is worthy of its extreme designation,” he recalls. “We worked tirelessly to improve on the best distance characteristics of our longest drivers, and the result is incredibly fast ball speed off the Speed Frame Face, plus the lowest CG of any adjustable driver. It will not be matched.” In addition to these innovative features, the Forged Composite Crown, which has been used for over four years, is an advanced carbon fiber material. It makes the driver weight only 12.1 grams for precise position and to achieve the lightest crown in golf ever. Also returning in the new

RAZR Fit Xtreme driver is the two part OptiFit Technology. This helps improve both accuracy and trajectory while also giving the golfer an opportunity to get their desired look at address. Also, the technology can shift the clubs center of gravity to promote a draw or keep being neutral. One change is with the size of the clubhead. The 8.5°, 9.5°, and 10.5° models will come with a 440cc head with a more open face angle, while the higher lofts will have a slightly closed face angle and a 460cc head. At last, The RAZR Fit Xtreme will feature two tour grade shafts as stock offerings. First shaft is the Aldila Trinity that combines Aldila’s three patented design technologies (RIP, S-Core, Micro Laminate) into a single shaft design. A secondary offering, the Matrix 7M3 Black Tie, is a heavier, lower launching, lower spinning option for higher head speed and higher spin players. Neither shaft will be modified from the product available in the aftermarket. For your information, the new driver will be available in mid- January 2013 and hits the shelves with a retail price of $399.99.

ANUGERAH KEBUDAYAAN & MAESTRO SENI TRADISI 2012 A Journey, Highly Appreciated “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” - Plato Music is not simply short moment of euphoria in heart feeling. Its meaning is deeper and higher than ever, therefore, musical masterpieces should be properly appreciated. To some extent, music is connected to philosophy. It reflects, transforms and expresses the reality we are experiencing, in which they depict the human relation with their surroundings. No matter whatsoever the genre is, they have been impactful shaping the nation’s history and characteristic in such a way. Music is able to unify what previously dismantled; that’s why national anthems composed. For reminder, Indonesia Raya, by Wage Rudolf Supratman, has marked the birth of the all-archipelago nationalist movement in Indonesia. Then, it also initiated an idea of one single entity of Indonesia as successor to the Hindia-Belanda (Dutch East Indies) and ended up with the real independence. Music was there to play its own role.

Along with the government, the foundation of Karya Cipta Indonesia (KCI) celebrated Indonesian music in all its forms on 23 November 2012, whether traditional, anthem and popular songs. All those were and are always well-known to witnessing long musical journey of the country. Also, it created a high profile opportunity to bring the music as well as music industry into the spotlight of media and public attention. When it comes into appreciation, then award is just inseparable. Without willingness to stick on ending celebration, the extravagant event was highlighted by Indonesian Cultural Awards to give and covered under the theme Gebyar Cipta Tembang Nusantara – Karya Anak Bangsa. Conceptually, the stage performance was a snapshot of historical venture from Indonesian copyright songs from time to time which constructed into a single spectacular show of musical artworks.

Long before memorable 17 August 1945, it was a struggle to compose songs into reality and spread out. Nevertheless, they have become the legendaries. Let us say the composer of numerous popular patriotic songs, Ismail Marzuki. Tribute to this legend, his songs came first to be medley performed respectively by Elfa’s Singers (Payung Fantasi), duet Syaharani and Mike Mohede (Sabda Alam), and Harvey Malaiholo (Indonesia Pusaka). That was such an extraordinary opening of the show, definitely looked forward to the center-stage ones.

98

Dating back after the past legendaries, audiences were wholeheartedly brought up to the era 50s by Andi Rianto and his team, Magenta Orchestra. In this time period, there were long list of songwriting competition and festival in the country, from radio to the stage. Therefore, the songs such as Lilin-Lilin Kecil, Berita Kepada Kawan and Panggung Sandiwara have been satisfyingly performed by new singers without completely leaving any memories inside the songs. Following legend by legend, Indonesian music is never disconnected with impactful notes from Malay feelings. It has been the origins

for some genres both in music and culture. With full of effort, Uut Permatasari and Sruti Respati sang these with undoubtedly signature twist, a must-be-there technique of Malay songs. Next segment goes to the concept of multi-ethnicism in Indonesia, songs from Sabang to Merauke. And selected titles wishfully could represent Indonesia in unity, like Stasiun Balapan, Polo Pa Kita Sayang and surely Cinta Papua. As great respect to the President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who has high concern to national music, and even so, he also composed many inspiring songs by himself. Aside from Rio Febrian and Shandy

Sandoro who performed amazingly, there was Yoshiko Samejima, a professional Japanese singer, who flawlessly performed Mr. President’s song of Rinduku Padamu. To highlight, the performance seemed creating a new composition on the stage. Sometimes the music director was as well combining traditional sounds and modern rhythms. Arranged in the flow of musical journey, the transformation has gone through lots of forms and genres, from soul and rock to diva version in ballads, from group band to boy-slash-girl band. All these reflects the real existence of music, and whatever it takes, there should be an appreciation highly and limitlessly.

ROBERT MANCINI

Man behind the Brand

“It is not enough to expect a man to pay for the best, you must also give him what he has paid for…” A mantra he believes in to boost the existing international luxury brand, Alfred Dunhill. Registry Team has been very fortunate to be in contact with one of very important people behind the innovative brand, Robert Mancini.

in Hong Kong in 1966 so we have conversed with our clients here and understood their specific requirements for decades,” shares the classic cars enthusiast. “Every region, market and opportunity comes with challenges. We like to take our time, assess the opportunities, understand our customers and build a business in a careful manner.”

Considering the history-slash-heritage of the brand, it was all started by a full dedication of Alfred Dunhill to creating the very finest men’s apparel and accessories. Today the solid team combines that rich heritage with style, innovation and functionality in the entire world, to create luxury menswear, leather goods, pens and men’s accessories that are without rival.

More exclusively, Alfred Dunhill itself has had a presence in Indonesia since 2006. And for Robert, today is an appropriate time to expand and open another new larger location of more than 135 sqm in Plaza Senayan. “So far, the results have always been positive and often followed by enquiries on where to find a greater range of products,” he recalls. Robert deeply understands that to expand, it’s necessary to differentiate each market in the competition by focusing on opportunities and strategy. Indonesians must be totally different from any market. “And I hope our customers and supporters in Indonesia enjoy what we are trying to build here and let us know how we may be able to better service their requirements.”

“For Alfred Dunhill, innovation & creativity have been at the core of the brand DNA,” says the father of twin sons. “Our philosophy is to create timeless and functional products which are designed for the modern man.” This philosophy seems in line with his one. Having tons of experiences in the US, he was back to the UK in 2000, together to further establish its prestigious standing with considered tactical strategies in sales and marketing. Both heart and mind align him with all partners, and particularly customers, to truthfully reflect what core values of the brand. He made his debut in the retail industry with an American company that focuses on high-end clothes. There he was holding various positions within the brand on both the East and West coasts. It’s a precious experience indeed, but the real culture of fashion brand he surely obtains together with Alfred Dunhill, more than a luxury brand. “For nearly 120 years our culture has always focused on luxury goods for men, we have always understood this arena,” he tells confidently. “It’s our area of expertise.” Following his great success of regional growth and development – Europe and Middle East, he was promoted to be Managing Director Asia Pacific in April 2010. “We have been in Asia for many years, our first regional flagship store opened

100

To emphasize what deemed as right offer for Indonesians, Alfred Dunhill wholeheartedly provides the best of ability reflecting what kind of desire believed by Indonesian supporters & fans desire. “Our offering and assortment is broad but focused toward men so our leather goods and menswear will be most visually apparent to our customers in Indonesia,” shares the UK-born about market in Indonesia. Asking what distinguishes Alfred Dunhill from many others, Robert firmly answers that the profile of clients has remained consistent since Dunhill first opened doors nearly 120 years. They have an appreciation of quality, timeless style and functionality. “We tend not to shout very loud about it through external branding or obvious avenues of communication, we like our product, store experience and service to be discovered and to distinguish us. We focus on and produce only men’s luxury goods which gives us a unique position and message within the wider female & male brands in the market today,” he concludes.

HANS NUGROHO & RAYMOND NANGOY

Support, Accelerate

At the centre of the ever-evolving nation’s industry is a group of inspiring entrepreneurs in business and organization. They are concerned to the policy and regulation that related in business features. They passionately boost anything in industry at best, and definitely never take it for granted. And they are well grouped under the major trade association in the country, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN). It might be a tablespoon of their entire life in business, but we need to see how they discover the pot of gold at another side of the rainbow. “KADIN is not a governmental body that able to directly determine any laws and regulations in Indonesia. Rather, it acts as a bridge and mediator in an attempt to get what favorable to businesses,” opens Hans Nugroho in conversation with the Registry Team. Together with Raymond Nangoy, they explain us everything about KADIN in very recent issues. Not only from private industry, members also the representatives of public corporations, state-owned enterprises and numerous other specialized and professional organizations. For certain issue, KADIN is there to help their interests. “Even for the local entrepreneurs, let say in domestic investment and transportation, they feel thankful for KADIN’s helps in quickly coordinating and negotiating,” speaks the President Director and CEO, PT. First Media News (Berita Satu News Channel). “On the other hand, we’re also thankful for current transformation in our country’s bureaucracy, today they are helpful and faster responding our suggestions.” Regarding the relations among countries, KADIN strategically upholds partnership with lots of chambers of commerce in the world. “Most foreigners have been in contact with our embassies there, but their chamber of commerce will favorably connect any business plans with us, therefore, we can follow up each other more

efficiently,” Hans recalls. “We usually make a conference call with our partners in the United States and it’s common for them to speak up what they feel prior to investment, mostly about complaints.” “Another thing that KADIN consistently endorses is the Small and Medium Enterprises, the latest support is from Singapore and South Korea,” adds Raymond Nangoy, the Vice Chairman, Permanent Committee of Domestic Investment Growth, KADIN. “Also, we have discussed this issue much deeper in our last national meeting on October, 2012, on which President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono showed his support to KADIN annual program, together with all ministers.” In the currently economic stability dominated of Indonesia, both entrepreneurs agreed that agriculture and mining are two that satisfyingly support national income time to time. Yet, infrastructure is still a big deal, particularly for those who live in remote area, where actually rich in natural resources. Here KADIN persistently tries to create a transformation through government’s program of the Masterplan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Economic Development of Indonesia (MP3EI). Not a slow project, but the necessity of business can step by step empower people from long suffering. Also, in last five years, KADIN has been struggling to approach government launching a regulation that added value is a compulsory for semi-finished and finished goods to export. Not just as low as raw materials in value and price. “Here media also plays critical role as source of information for businessmen as well as to control the system avoiding deceitfulness in any projects or tender,” shares Hans who has been more than 20 years working in media and journalism. According to Raymond, KADIN should grab more opportunities which will be provided in the future. “One day, in less than 5 years, we believe that KADIN would be a strong investment reference for both local and overseas,” he concludes confidently.

NONI SRI AYATI PURNOMO

Power of Super Lady

How does a young woman from Indonesia can bring up the family-owned taxi company into the biggest one in Asia Pacific? Noni Sri Ayati Purnomo, Vice President of Blue Bird Group, tells Registry Team that it’s all about team work supported by bright ideas and spirited energy. What immediately surprises on first meeting with her is how enthusiastic and excited she is in person. This spirit belies her physical frame with sheer energy and strength of purpose as a lady in business. We feel it in the firm grip of her handshake and see it in her quick, light steps. Her presence itself flourishes the ambiance of this interview. “I have been very fortunate with whatever I have received and done,” she declares. “It turns out to be a passion to work for this company, more than an obligation. That’s why I have a lot of energy.” One thing to learn from this successful lady is definitely her basic philosophy, and lucky for us to know and follow out, maybe. “First thing first, we need to be much thankful for every single thing in our life, but at the same time we can’t feel better than many others. Keep learning further and deeper from anyone we look up to,” shares the mother of three. Blue Bird Group and her entire life seem inseparable. Her career started by witnessing the dramatic process of her grandmother, Mrs. Mutiara Djokosoetono, initiating this home-based business around 40 years ago. “Even when I was 5-year-old child, I was involved into this family business,” she speaks, smiling. After graduating from the University of Newcastle, Australia, in 1994, she had her own plan to experience something different outside the group, but never able to leave totally. In fact, Noni was recruited to support opening Jakarta Convention Bureau as market research officer, altogether as supervisor in operations of Blue Bird. “For 1,5 years, I worked until 5 pm in Jakarta Convention Bureau, and at night I worked at Blue Bird till around 12 am,” recalls the wife of Klaas Redmer Schukken. “It was tiring but I learned a lot in marketing to be particular. Then, I thought I need to deepen my knowledge more and more again.” Afterwards, she went to the United States for MBA degree, majoring in marketing and finance. All these struggles were her tough steps into the finish line of destiny, a success of Blue Bird Group.

104

“Frankly speaking, again, I wanted to work in the multinational corporation first,” she tells us. Yet, a week before her move from San Fransisco to New York, there was a phone call from her respected grandmother asking her sincere willingness to join Blue Bird Group completely, immediately. “Well, I remembered she said that if that company desired to hire me, it means I’m capable, then, why not you contributing to our family instead?” shares the Muay-Thai enthusiast. “And it strongly changed my decision.” Back in Jakarta since 1997, she was required to think hard facing economic crisis in Indonesia, without prevailing the termination of employment at all. “I always believe that creativity and togetherness will create a breakthrough to face the crisis,” speaks the University of San Fransisco graduate. “Aside from stating vision, mission and renewing our logo to be more dynamic, I proposed to hold employees’ training of economical driving and customer service, in the midst of significant decreasing number of customers due to suffering crisis.” Surprisingly, it could save the cost of spare parts up to 30% and turned Blue Bird Group out to be the most advance taxi company in 2000, right after monetary stability had been achieved. In the professional realm, it’s indisputable that she has soared in a role that would have inspired many others with her innovative strategy and leadership. “Efficiency in process and reliability of data are two things we boost most under business cost re-engineering,” shares Noni about threeyear project she proposed. “Nevertheless, it was really challenging to implement change management internally. Not all employees love transformation, especially those who were in comfort zone.” And turning bright ideas into reality seems to be the meat of what she does as business woman. Her own efficiency has been predicated on understanding the family-owned company and working it altogether with social projects in education and environment. Today, she is also the President of Blue Bird Peduli, a philanthropy division of the group. “Aside from providing scholarships for children of our employees, Blue Bird Group also endorses education facilities for scavengers and orphanage in Jakarta. Further, we are highly concerned to the environmentally-friendly and women empowerment projects to contribute more and more again for Indonesia,” she concludes.

JESSICA SCHWARZE Constantly Challenged

Jessica – wearing a full business suite- rushed into the SAP meeting room, apologizing to the Registry team for being a bit late. “We are planning to hit full gear in the first quarter of 2013, so it gets busy right from the start.” she says, almost out of breath. Jessica, who is the Head of Marketing for SAP Indonesia, is planning to organize an executive dinner next week, targeting the company’s customers and prospects to discuss the economic outlook in 2013 and how to best navigate the changing climate with SAP solutions. “It is my job to create meaningful and relevant campaigns to draw interest in our company’s software solutions.” Jessica explains further. SAP is the world’s largest business software company with revenues of around €12 billion and over 100,000 customers globally. In Indonesia, where the company has been present for fifteen years, the company has nearly 1000 customers. “The majority of large companies in Indonesia already use SAP to manage their business, while an increasing number of midsize and small enterprises are also implementing our solutions to improve business processes and make it world standard.” says the 39 year old fitness enthusiast. As the Head of Marketing, Jessica’s main role is to attract as many potential buyers as possible. “Our performance is measured based on the sales pipeline we generate. Together with my team I realize this through various tactics – from physical events, online campaigns, telemarketing, and direct mail and so on.” During her tenure at SAP, she has never missed her target; in fact, she has always overachieved. As a result, Jessica has been promoted twice since she joined the company in 2004, and was once even awarded the Top Performer’s Award actually

reserved only for Sales people. “I received a full expenses trip for two to Hawaii, where some 2000 top performers from SAP all over the world gathered. It was magnificent!” she shares proudly. Having been with the company for almost ten years, it seems obvious that Jessica loves working for this software giant. “The Information Technology Industry is very dynamic, and we are forced to think on our feet, be adaptive and fast learners.” Jessica, who loves reading inspirational books, explains. As part of her job, Jessica also regularly meets with her counterparts from other countries where they share ideas and best practices. “The company gives me an unparalleled opportunity to be at par with global marketers.” It seems that being a top performer is in her blood. Jessica, who was born in Jakarta on April 13th, was twice awarded the best graduate of the year. First for her Bachelor’s in Education at Atmajaya University and then again for her post graduate diploma in Intercultural Management at the Japan American Institute of Business Science in Honolulu “ I was raised to always do my utmost in any of my undertakings.” she says matter-of-factly. “Even if I hadn’t gotten straight A’s, or did not land my dream job – the fact that I did my best gives me a peace of mind.” So, what’s next for her? “I just feel very fortunate to have this amazing job and career, where I am constantly challenged and growing. Now with Indonesia being set as one of SAP’s fastest growing countries in the world, there are higher targets for me and my team for 2013. This is another challenge that I can’t wait to undertake!” she concludes enthusiastically.

FIDELA MAIDIANA SANTOSA

A Daughter, A Shining Crystal “Aside from selecting the right location and concept for every single project, we need to have an ‘added value’ that makes our project special and always different from others,” she exclusively tells the Registry Team. Her innovative ideas are prominent to re-build what has been a satisfactory to be standout and super-excellent. Elegant, cheerful and engaging are three words to describe Fidela at first meeting. The young entrepreneur talks about her experience as sales and property manager of Plaza Crystal and Furniture, also her future challenges to develop PT. Crystal Land Development. With experience for not less than 20 years, from crystal chandeliers to business architecture, today they are creating a hotel project individually. “PT Crystal Land Development is a synergy between my father and I. He is in charge on most technical and business calculation, while I cover the rest such as the concept of each project,” shares the Raffles Design Institute Singapore graduate. “Our vision is to be amongst the few recognized, preferred and respectable property developer in Indonesia.” She may share the same profession as her father Hauw Santosa, but at such a young age, beautiful Fidela Maidiana Santosa has proven to accomplish what most interior designers never experience in an entire lifetime. Yes, she also seriously does project management, marketing communications, branding concept and now being young developer. Indeed, a passion for art and design is in her DNA. And together with her loving-slash-inspiring father, they enthusiastically continue to bring a family business up to the higher level, keep expanding. “What makes us different is that we put our heart and soul into every project,” speaks the property sales manager of PT. Crystal Land

Development. “We are not just developers, but our team does everything from zero. From the project’s concept, business calculations to such detailed matters, like branding, packaging and marketing strategies.” In her recent project, the 24-year-old boosts the strategic location of The Crystal on the Bay as its high benefits. Covered by pristine beach and mangroves’ surrounding, the concept is completely exceptional compared to other hotels in Bali. Obviously, it offers unique experience for guests to enjoy the island, priceless and breathtaking. “Inspired by nature, I adopted those characters to be deeper contemporary design. And also, the Crystal as brand basically represents elegant and luxurious lifestyle, expressed by high-quality materials and classy furniture inside,” she recalls. With a master degree in Marketing Management from Lasell College Massachusetts, she has a wise thought to counter and to be always leading player in her industry. A fact that is undeniable is the most competitors are her close friends as well. “But it doesn’t really matter. I always focus on market research and try to give the best to our investors,” speaks the travelling enthusiast. “Of course, I learn from my competitors, both their success and mistakes. But, more importantly, we need to build sincere relationship with anyone, customers to be particular.” Great success is not come by easy, and Fidela truly understands it. Yet, her passion is never absence to endorse a vigorous spirit to achieve more, better than previous ones. “My road is still very long but it will be a fun and interesting journey. I’d love to quote what Donald Trump said: without passion you do not have energy, and without energy you have nothing,” she concludes confidently.

They are the Kamoro, a semi-nomadic hunting, gathering and fishing tribe. The principal Kamoro carvings fall into several categories. Lately, the quality of a wide variety of art pieces of both traditional and contemporary forms, as well as women’s plaited products has improved considerably. High appreciation is to PT. Formed by two of the most outstanding virtuosos, violinist Jorge Saade and guitarist Julio Almeida, they exclusively performed at the prestigious stage of Usmar Ismail Hall, Jalan Rasuna Said, Jakarta. The performance was very special for Jakartans, just like the oasis, as it has been a while there is no such duo performance from Latin American countries. SUNARYO SOETONO

Wisdom for Heritage Every creature is better alive than dead, men and moose and pine trees, and he who understands it aright will rather preserve its life than destroy it – Henry David Thoreau From his period of life more than a hundred years ago, an American philosopher-slashauthor was living to struggle what we today understand as sustainable environment. Above is one of his artworks in writing, an inspiring memory to remind us this never ending wisdom. We will never know the destiny of our Earth and life would be in the future. It seems what Sunaryo Soetono has in mind and poured it into the artworks which were displayed on a special private exhibition, Seamless Points – One Vision, Many Perspectives. It presented his latest paintings, mixed-media works and sculptures. Ciptadana Capital, one of Indonesia’s leading securities firms, was the initiator who always proud to announce Sunaryo Soetono as the featured artist of its second annual art program. Founded in 2011, the Ciptadana art program is dedicated to the promotion of a meaningful dialog between the nation’s business community and dynamic art scene, and includes a variety of activities held at the company’s premises located in Plaza Asia, Jakarta.

From November to December 2012, this Banyumas-born artist exhibited the representatives of his core belief which perfectly united with vision and identity to the environmental roots, as well as culture. First declared in 1975 by DECENTA, this philosophy, on which he joined, was a seminal movement of young artists rejecting the mindless aping of foreign art and urging its followers to seek their own paths. It’s always being a company for Sunaryo to mark his name in the future Indonesian art world, youth with a clear vision. Without sentimental critics but telling the truth, he fights the perceptions that living under modernism is not always a sophisticated lifestyle. It destructs the nature of human living and its surroundings in terms of sustainability. Not only affect significantly executed the environment, surprisingly, they change our characteristics, habits and way of thinking. For instance, his artwork about urban city life is depicted by condemnation into both people and living environment. Catastrophe, that’s what he tries to describe if this continues. Not to be pessimistic, but the description is more to remind us to take preventing actions whatever it takes and costs, for the sake of our heritage.
