SAtya Widya YudHa & Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri A Greater Calling

s the age old adage states, that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, we, get a firsthand l o o k at both the sturdy, distinguished and grand tree which Mr. Satya Widya Yudha is in this literary comparison and how his daughter, the apple of his eye, Miss Esti Widya Putri (Esti) is doing as she continues to carve and create a bright and gleaming future for herself in her own right. With more than 23 years of experience in the oil and gas industry both locally and abroad all whilst also being an important member of parliament under the renowned Golkar party, Mr. Satya W. Yudha successfully secured a seat as a member in the House of Representatives in the recent legislative elections held in April 2014. His resounding win in his regency enabled him to secure back to back terms (2014-2019) adding to his previous tenure (2009-2014) as the Member of Parliament for the East Java districts of Bojonegoro and Tuban. The secret Mr. Satya states to his acceptance by the constituents in Bojonegoro and Tuban, is due to his willingness and desire to engage with his constituents as closely as possible, with Mr. Satya citing that he is ‘on call 24 hours a day’. Mr. Satya also mentions of the plans he has put in place where locals living in Bojonegoro, a hotbed for foreign oil and gas companies, can get employment opportunities and other benefits involved with having big oil and gas companies operating in Bojonegoro. As the designated Member of Parliament (DPR) for his constituents, Mr. Satya advocates that a DPR has to have a close relationship with his constituents. Given this principle, Mr. Satya usually hosts ‘pengajian’ events and spends time eating at local ‘warungs’, during his impromptu visits (blusukan) thus allowing him to meet and get to know his constituents at a more personal level. In doing so Mr. Satya is able to find out what can be done to improve their overall standard of living. Another element that is vital and which is espoused wholeheartedly by Mr. Satya is the need for better and further education for the people within Bojonegoro and Tuban. “With increased educational levels, there will be a gradual and constant transition whereby we will see more white collar workers instead of blue collar labourers”, states Mr. Satya. Within the present framework of parliament Mr.
Satya has earned a much valued reputation as being one of the foremost authorities on the energy and oil and gas sectors in Indonesia. This is due to the wealth of experience Mr. Satya accumulated prior to entering public service. Mr Satya has served at the head of organisations that are synonymous with the oil and gas industry such as Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), British Petroleum (BP), and VICO Indonesia. His career has allowed Mr. Satya to spend a significant amount of time in Washington DC, United States, London, England, Vietnam, China and Indonesia. Currently, Mr. Satya is a Member of Commission VII overseeing Energy, Mineral Resources, Environment, Research and Technology sectors and also a member of the Budgeting Committee at the House of Representatives, of the Republic of Indonesia. He was also a Deputy for the Energy and Finance sector for the Golkar party fraction. He also occupies the position of Deputy Secretary General of the Golkar Party. Throughout his stint as a member of parliament, Mr. Satya has emerged as a highly respected specialist on matters pertaining to energy, geopolitics and economics with a special focus on Indonesia, China and Vietnam. He has adroitly displayed his ability to combine his knowledge of the energy market and industrial sectors with his expertise on the geopolitics and economics of global and asian energy sectors. He specializes in work on energy security, energy subsidy, US – Indonesia energy and strategic relations, national oil companies, climate change, and oil company country risks. Amongst some of the landmark initiatives that Mr. Satya has supported in the House of Parliament is for lifting the subsidies on fuel and electricity. The aim was to reduce the unfairness of the subsidy system where everyone, whether rich or poor, benefitted and in turn he introduced targeted subsidies which were specifically implemented for those unable to afford the prices of these basic necessities without the subsidies. “The three crucial roles which are a prerequisite for a DPR is to oversee the government, look into the budgeting and legislation,” states Mr. Satya. Some of the landmark legislation which have been passed under Mr. Satya’s watch have been the space law, the geothermal law and the geospacial law.

Away from the rigours of work, Mr. Satya is a happily married man with two children, and a loving wife. It is his 21-year-old daughter the aforementioned Miss Esti, who catches the eye with her charm and wit. Currently finishing her masters in Social Change from the University of Manchester, Miss Esti also reveals her patriotic nature similar to that of her father when she mentions that her thesis for her Masters degree is about Indonesia, more specifically, about the impact of green infrastructure on social well being. A highly affluent, graceful and intellectual individual, Miss Esti reveals that it is her keen ambition “to make a positive impact on society at large”. On the other hand, her self-professed love for singing has allowed her to win in a talent show competition hosted by her university, which led to her interview with BBC Manchester in 2013. Miss Esti also shows that she has a good head on her shoulders when she reveals the importance of family. She further explains that, “sometimes gratefulness stems from deprivation; I started my undergraduate studies abroad when I was 17, thus having to part with my family at an early age, but it was from this experience alone was I able to appreciate them more”.

LES PERLES DE CHANEL
Madness Over Pearls CHANEL’s fundamental themes are created by Mademoiselle Chanel’s fondness of pearls. On all social function she would wear them both day and night, whether with gowns or sportswear, and even a sweater paired with men’s trousers. Pearls never parted from her, except when she was sleeping. As if it was a talisman, Mademoiselle Chanel wore pearls, turning it into a mystical complement to her more feminine side. Today, in the House of Chanel, pearls are associated and inextricably tied to the Mademoiselle as they have included them in accessories, such as earrings, a choker, in a simple strand or as a cascade of sautoirs. As Renaissance painting, especially a court portrait by Veronese, the beauty of pearls overwhelms the Mademoiselle, it is probable that her fondness over pearls is moved by a secret emotion. She casually plays with them, as an irresistable card for seduction. She knows full well how the pearls capture light and illuminate her face, bringing out the sparkle in her eyes and smile. The Mademoiselle’s possession at the end of her days were three beige suits and her pearls. They are the essential’s of the Mademoiselle, and has since become the essentials of CHANEL. CHANEL’s new High Jewelry collection “Les Perles de CHANEL” is a set of exceptional pieces, exalting the beauty and diversity of pearls. CHANEL Fine Jewellery has chosen of the most extraordinary cultured pearls in a variety of dimensions, shapes, colors and orients from the South Seas, fresh water, Tahiti, Japan and even Indonesia. Together with gold and pinks, the pearls’ whites and blacks make a perfect combination; while diamonds, yellow diamonds, sapphires, tourmalines, aquamarines and amethysts highlight the pearls in subtle shades and tones.

A stunning fall of Indonesian pearls in spectacular sizes, punctuated with an 8 carat diamond is the “Perles de Jour” necklace. The gray Tahitian pearls are magnificent version - “Perles de Nuit”. A combination of gold, pearls with yellow and white diamonds on platinum is designed into the “Perles Royales”. A subtle play of gradation using white and gold South Sea pearls enhanced with white and yellow diamonds is the “Envolée Solaire” parure. A set of multicolored pearls that set alight the diamond camellias with their sapphire centers in the delicate tones of the pearls composes the “Printemps de Camélia”. An exquisite blend of white, black and gold pearls is found on the “Lion Baroque” with a lion’s head, paved with sapphires. The High Jewellery collection “Les Perles de CHANEL” are sumptuous and surprising, with its inspiration firmly anchored in Mademoiselle’s madness over pearls and the House’s constantly reaffirmed creativity.

lalique Soulmates
The pioneer of exquisite French crystals, Lalique, unveiled their new jewelry collection - the Soulmates, a mythological butterfly range, drawing on the origins of air and love, personified in gold, diamonds, pearls, sapphires and exceptional precious stones. René Lalique abundantly used the butterfly motif during the Art Nouveau period. Butterfly was the genuine source of inspiration for René Lalique, who was always interested and loved to observe and study wildlife, especially winged insects. It is now most widely depicted insect in Lalique fine jewelry. The Lalique House created a collection that would tell the mythical love story through different chapters in it. The myth being evoked for the Soulmate collection pays tribute to the character in a Greek myth, Psyché, the Butterfly-Woman who was loved by Eros, the God of Love. After a long struggle through difficult tasks given by the jealous Goddess Aphrodite, Psyché
28

was able to be reunited with her Soulmate and was made immortal by Zeus, so they could be together forever. This beautiful Greek myth of Psyché and Eros, inspired the Lalique Soulmates collection. The Ailes de Psyché is an ode to finely chiselled, lace-like gold, creating openwork in which the metal discreetly highlights a palette of colorful gemstones. Rounder, sensual, feminine motif proposes a line in red gold evoking the stunning pinkish-orange coat of the butterfly by day and in white gold, recalling its bluish hue by night. Its Art Déco heritage is celebrated with the Psyché’s Wings collection, which features glowing red reflections and heavenly radiance. The aquamarine, mother-of-pearl and sapphire cabochons and paving take flight in a
rustle of wings borne on the airs of time. Another collection, which is a tribute to René Lalique is the Muguet Lily of the Valley, as the lily of the valley was often chosen by Lalique to adorn his designs. The tiny white bell of the flower announces the freshness of spring while its unique scent recalls a world of subtle fragrances, a perfect package to quickly make this motif an emblematic House design. The story of two Soulmates, captured by Lalique’s new Soulmate collection is formed by Eros, the God of Love and creative power, the hunter armed with bow and arrows, along with Psyché the Butterfly-Woman -- the arrow and butterfly soar with the rebirth of Lalique fine jewelry after The Sacred Fire Odyssey.

Barely one per cent of worldwide diamond production meets the Rolex quality criteria – exacting standards upheld by Rolex’s own gemmology specialists. Precious stones that are deemed worthy are then entrusted to the in-house master gem-setters, experts in the art of exalting their natural lustre. Its Oyster case, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres, is a paragon of robustness, proportion and elegance. The characteristically shaped middle case is crafted from a solid block of 18 ct gold. The new Oyster Perpetual Datejust Pearlmaster 34 is the first model equipped with calibre 2236 and the new Syloxi hairspring in silicon developed by Rolex, which endows it with a level of chronometric performance rarely seen on a woman’s watch. With delightfully rounded solid links in 18 ct gold, the Pearlmaster bracelet contributes to the watch’s individual character and offers the wearer maximum comfort. It is equipped with a concealed Crownclasp that is both elegant and functional. On certain versions, the intermediate bracelet links are sublimely set with diamonds of only the highest quality. A subtle echo of the bezel, this superb gem setting on the bezel provides the finishing touch to an authentic and very feminine archetype of watchmaking.

MAURICE LACROIX Untold Mystery and Gravity
The luxury brand of Swiss watches based in the Canton of Jura and headquarted in Zurich was founded in 1975 as a part of the Desco von Schulthess of Zurich. The Masterpiece watches they have produced include “Masterpiece” which also presents limited edition models based on “historic” or “heritage” movements, purchased during the height of quartz crisis and refinished to the highest standards. Two of its successful watches are the Masterpiece Mystery and the Masterpiece Gravity. MASTERPIECE MYSTERY The mystery of every watch is its micro-mechanics which is revealed in the Masterpiece Mystery models, housed within the case, as a courtesy of an open-worked area of the dial. The location of both the hour hand and the minute hand is off-centre at 2 o’clock, with the thought provoking seconds display at 6 o’clock, showing no physical connection between the novel seconds hand and the movement beneath. The Masterpiece Mystery was first released in 2013 in limited edition of 125 pieces only. This year, however, Maurice Lacroix decided to present
42

two new versions of Masterpiece Mystery, “Contemporary” and “Classic”, in limited numbers of only 250 pieces each model. The difference between both models of the Mystery lies in its background of the off-centre hours and minutes display, and the details of the seconds display. “Contemporary” employs Arabic numbers set against a black background, with a black dial on the seconds display and a twin-tipped second hand, red at one end and white at the other, making it appear more modern and highly legible. “Classic” employs Arabic numerals set against dark blue scale, while the seconds display are set against a pearl-white dial and a twin-tipped second hand, blue at one end and white at the
other, making it appear distinctly more traditional than the former model. How the wristwatch, with off-centre hour-minute and seconds displays, works, remains a mystery that many will want to uncover, but is carefully guarded by Maurice Lacroix, who playfully retains the secret in teases curious minds. Both Masterpiece Mystery models are cased in a stainless steel, with satin and polished finishing, domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, and comes with a genuine black large-scale crocodile-skin, hand-stitched strap, with folding steel clasp and push buttons.

Masterpiece Gravity
The concept of gravity - the phenomenon of two objects being attracted to each other, and the reason why objects are drawn to the earth’s surface - is the inspiration of Maurice Lacroix behind Masterpiece Gravity. The spectacle of seeing the oscillator beating, and assortment centre stage on the dial side of the watch, along with the pallet lever moving, the Gravity is very entertaining and emits an attractive force. The latest model of the Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Gravity also is one of the first timepieces to feature an all-silicon assortment. It was Maurice Lacroix’s Head of Movement Construction, Michel Vermont, in collaboration with Haute Ecole Arc, based in Le Locle, who first developed this. Silicon is a self-lubricating, glass-like material and three times lighter than steel. As it is low mass, it consumes less energy, is more accurate and does not require regular lubrication. The complete assortment made of silicon includes the balance staff, pallet lever, pallet staff, escapement wheel and escapement wheel pinion. By using silicon assortment to complete the Maurice Lacroix automatic manufacture Calibre ML230, the brand managed to minimise the number of components, avoiding unnecessary parts and thus, providing a clean appearance and enhanced reliability.

The Masterpiece Gravity has two models, “Classical” and “Contemporary”. “Classical” is presented in a stainless steel case, while “Contemporary” is delivered in a sultry anthracite PVD finish. For both models of the Gravity, the “glass-box” sapphire crystal, domed and magnifying the oscillator and assortment is the key element, as it makes them appear to sit high within the case and appear in a sublime three dimensional characteristic. As with Masterpiece Mystery, the hour and minute display is off-centre at 2 o’clock but has the seconds display at 5 o’clock. The “Contemporary” includes diamond-cut indexes and the “Classical” Roman numerals. The small seconds display of “Contemporary” at 4 o’clock is circular brushed with red Arabic numerals printed on second track. The spectacle of the balance and silicon assortment is magnified between 6 o’clock and 8 o’clock. It comes with genuine crocodile skin strap with black calf skin lining and black overstitching. The buckle is made of folding steel clasp with push buttons. The small seconds display of “Classical” is also located at 4 o’clock with thermally blued seconds hand. As with “Contemporary” the spectacle of the balance and silicon assortment is magnified between 6 o’clock and 8 o’clock. It comes with genuine crocodile skin strap with black calf skin lining and black overstitching. The buckle is made of folding steel clasp with push buttons. www.mauricelacroix.com

HYT watch Hybrid Timepiece
Following the success of the launch of H1 in 2012, HYT continues to push the limits of hydro mechanics further. The new watch is called the H2, breaking new grounds even more in terms of mechanical and visual interest and not merely adding more complication to the timepiece. The difference between HYT H1, the H2 was a part of a limited edition of just 50 in 2013 and now in reproduced to only 20 pieces. HYT makes it clear that H2 is all about high-end appeal and experimental technical style. The movement was not only designed to be exquisite to look at but also an excellent innovation. The exclusive model was designed using the guiding principle of integrating fluidics into mechanical watchmaking. HYT combined the perfect alliance between high-end watchmaking and fluid mechanics, and out of this innovation, the H2 was born, with the collaborated vision of the hydro mechanical horologists and the APRP team (Audemars Piguet Renaud et Papi), overseen by Giulio Papi. Through innovation and creativity such as this, HYT earned its place in the sphere of high-end watchmaking, as they always successfully turns utopia into reality.

H2 Black DLC & Pink Gold Side
The timepiece has a hybrid movement whose entire architecture has been redesigned as it is deconstructed, integrating and enclosing the bellows, the system of feelers, cams and pistons - they are not just aesthetic elements in a hydro mechanical watch. They are key components. The bellows is positioned at 6 o’clock in “V” and rising, which optimizes the integration of the interface, connecting the watch mechanism with the fluidic system. This not only benefits mechanically but it also evokes the most outstanding achievements of automotive and aeronautical
engineering. The bellows are made from an incredibly strong and supple electro-deposited alloy, and moved by a piston. When one of the two bellows is compressed, the other is extended, driving the movement of the fluids in the capillary. The “H-N-R” crown position indicator is located at 3 o’clock, reminding us of the gearstick of a racing car. Another hand, also original and exclusive to HYT, is a counterbalanced to the “H-N-R” crown position indicator. The other hand is the temperature range. Once worn, this function enables the user to accurately find out

when the retrograde green fluidic hours has reached the optimum temperature range. In the centre of the dial is a minute hand, made of pink gold (5N), designed in stages to perfectly fit the structure of the fluidic system, jumping after 30 minutes to avoid the bellows. The visibility of the barrel spring is displayed in a clever and innovative fashion. The movement is housed in a Titanium black DLC and pink gold (5N) with polished, micro blasted and satin finishes, with a diameter of 48.8 mm and thickness of 17.9 mm, and a domed sapphire crystal box with anti-reflection coating, through which the movement is fully visible, accentuating the threedimensional depth which is characteristic of the brand. At 6 o’clock is the Titanium Black DLC dome, matching the fully seen HYT calibre 21,600 vph which offers a 192-hour (8-day) power reserve. The double barrel is visible from the back of the watch.

H2 Titanium & White Gold Blue_Side
The driving force behind the idea to introduce hydro mechanical technology in 2012 is the two flexible reservoirs with a capillary attached at each end. In one end is the green aqueous liquid containing fluorescent. In the other end, is a viscous transparent liquid. Keeping them apart is the repulsion force of the molecules in each fluid. There is a meniscus that marks the separation of the fluids in the tubes, displaying the
time. When it reaches 6 pm, the fluorescent liquid returns to the original position using a retrograde movement. Produced in a limited number, the HYT is an incredibly exciting piece, much more than a watch, which has a design ensuring its powerful, bold and assertive nature. The design imposes its own codes, underlining the extraordinary character and creativity that this piece offers.

Omega
8 Pieces of Orange Ceramics
In a glance, orange ceramics do not sound luxurious at all, but it is. The Orange Ceramics are Omega’s latest limited edition of the Seamaster Planet Ocean GMT dive watches, and the world’s first orange ceramic material-based bezel. A growing interest in coloured ceramic materials beyond the typical black and white colour of wristwatches has moved Omega to debut their orangecoloured innovation, and launched its limited edition of eight pieces of the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic. Ceramics may not sound as though it is a proper high-end watch material, but producing it is a complex matter, as each ceramic
50
Registry Indonesia
piece goes through a compressing and baking process to shrink it, which causes each piece to be more scratch resistant than steel, and adding an unfading colour to it, other than black and white, is also troublesome. The platinum dial completes Omega’s success in creating the Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic and a debut of a great new high-end model. Omega produced the unique dial to match with the platinum case and orange accents on the hands and hour markers. On the sand-blasted 950-grade platinum dial are the facetted 18k white gold indexes and central hour-minute-
seconds hands, with the 6-9-12 numerals in 850-grade platinum Liquidmetal, GMT applique and the central GMT hand that rotates once every 24 hours in orange aluminium to enable keeping track of the time in a second and third time zone, with the help of the rotating bezel. Platinum is once again used for the numerals and triangle on the orange bezel, division lines and inner rings. On the caseback along with the limited edition number, the words “World Premiere” is engraved, confirming the
timepiece’s unique status. The in-house made Omega CoAxial calibre 8615 motor, fitted with a Si14 silicon balance spring, at the heart of the Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic, can be viewed through the sapphire crystal on the caseback. The timepiece has 600 meters of water resistance, as the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Orange Ceramic is indeed a regular dive watch. The only uniqueness to the watch is that it is used as a tool of debuting the new orange bezel material.

A Glamorous Juxtaposition
An innovative collection of heavily textured wools mixed with haute tailoring and technology used to come up with a glamorous juxtaposition of the masculine and feminine is presented at Milan’s fashion week, concentrating on the craftsmanship of MaxMara. The season’s collection also paid homage to the influence of classic British male outer wear trends - tweed and leather. In contrast to the last season’s theme which, exercised in minimalism, this fall is all about texture with ultra-luxe cardigans, tweed coats and metallic gold skirts. Simply the nicest surprise, however, was not to be found in fabrics, but in the shapes and technique. MaxMara is indeed an Italian innovative house where fabrics are the greatest concern. We have seen shearling and alpaca coats before, only this season MaxMara presented them in a rather surprising way - they came quilted or printed in plaid, offering a sporty edge to look.

MaxMara Fall/ Winter 2014 collection features a moody color palette of London fog gray, black and brown, as well as the iconic camel, casha, rust and crocodile stamped gold. The black patent came in more and more as an accent, helping the entire collection to modernize. Besides playful innovation in fabric, and color, other contrasts at play included rural versus urban, grunge versus elegance and even masculine versus feminine. Contrasts are the major role in this season, you can sense a grunge vibe, but also establish an elegant vibe, like the oversized tweed balon sleeveless vests, were combined with golden leather skirts. The collection was flooded by knits, coats, jackets in tweed prints and other outer wears conveying a sense of male elegance. To emphasize even
more on the masculinity, MaxMara matched a trench coat with a gentleman’s tie. However, despite the boyish, metropolitan feeling that this entire collection so strongly oozed, it was completely void of trousers, and instead, relied on ultra-feminine form-fitting pencil skirts with mock seam stockings. The focus of MaxMara was squarely on rigorously cut midi skirts. Coats, jackets and other outer wears are the bread and butter of MaxMara’s business, and customers looking for them will find plenty of pleasing options in this collection. But the peak of tailoring was the waistcoat, a long-line sleeveless jacket. This particular one is proposed as the ultimate layering device in Max Mara’s Fall/ Winter 2014 collection.

BALENCIAGA The Marriage of Techno Couture Balenciaga’s pre fall collection 2014 is a marriage between the Cristobal Balenciaga codes with the Creative Director’s own language from his years at his own label, and thus has been the most confident collection to date of Alexander Wang, Creative Director of Balenciaga. This is the collection of “Techno Couture”, as he put it. The most obvious production of the marriage, is the sporty and modern feel of the gabardine cocoon coat accented with waterproof aqua zips at the cuffs borrowed from scuba diving and polyurethane patches at the shoulders lifted from uniforms. Alexander Wang is a young American fashion designer who began his career by pursuing the launch of his own label in 2005, which predominantly began with a knitwear collection. He even spread his first flagship store in SoHo, New York on February 17, 2011. It was only in November 2012 that Wang was nominated the new Creative Director at Balenciaga, after Nicolas Ghesquiere left the French house. His debut would be Balenciaga’s FallWinter 2013 collection which took place in February 2013. Wang’s own label’s early signature, knitwear, was present in this collection and became the very instant that the designer
56

hit his stride with his inventive and technologically advanced ways of manipulating the humble art of knitting. Knit was molded and sculpted to arc and flow around the body, slicked with latex and embroidered with rhinestones and pearls give the effect of a sea anemone. Wang even revealed that this had to be done by massaging it in by hand. The knits kept coming throughout the show, although not all of them came in the most obvious manner. A gorgeous green anorak had a stitch that looked like a tire track. Chunky cable-knit wool were seen in traditional outerwear, such as
the parka, the fisherman’s rain jacket and others, in colors of olive green or canary yellow. Wang’s collection also includes plenty of accessories. Each model had with them plenty of those, clutching three bags at once, practical tote shapes interpreted in crocodile, beaver, calfskin and patent leather. Wang’s bags suspended from metal handles made to look like tension wires. A nice change from all the knitted wool celebration of the collection.

Ted Baker’s Menswear and Womenswear Fall-Winter 2014 collections are dancing cheek to cheek to create a thrilling display of rhythm and electric blues. His theme literally rose out from the dance floor. For this season, Ted Baker combined vintage-inspired floral prints in a layered and lavish palette of pinks, with a touch of the 1950s an ultra-feminine look is choreographed into the luxurious womenswear clothing and accessories collection. The Langley womenswear enchanted the audience with rich autumnal shades of burnt orange and deep purple clashing with pastels and pale green. The glamour of the season lies in the couture-inspired silhouettes and luxurious fabrications, along with cashmere knits and silk organza. On the other side, Ted’s menswear is full of thrilling precision and rhythmic wit, inspired by a recent boat trip along the Nile and other exotic destinations. Ted Baker’s

Phormal suits were inspired by traditional techniques with a modern cut, featuring stand-out sophisticated metallics of sonic blue and emperor purple in slim, sharp suiting. The opulence of the season lies in the Italian fabrications, mother of pearl buttons and 1920s-style cocktail bar linings. In contrast to the feminine look of flowery clothing, the sportswear influences up the pace with an urban, futuristic style, moving across neoprene sweat shapes, lux joggers and bomber jacket silhouettes. Playfully, Ted Baker matches contrasting texture as well: from embossed snakeskin and sparkling sequins to metallic graphic jacquards. Every piece of the collection is adorned with embellishment - jewelled collars on coats, or heavily encrusted tunic style dresses. The entire collection is alive with a colour palette of jewel tones of burgundy, teal, emerald green and vibrant orange, with color blocks on blazers which has contrast lapels, pockets and sleeves, bold blocks of aubergine, burnt orange and green on knitwear. Ted Baker is a fashion house, especially renowned for his charming prints. A robust collection of prints and jacquards can be found this season, with Ted’s geos, dogtooth and paisleys standing out. An exotic flair of his classic brogue, camouflage and leopard print is also available. Ted’s engineered prints are themed around reflected landscapes, and colors (body) pop in electric blues, acid yellows and fresh neon pinks. The strikingly stylish collections for Fall-Winter 2014, will only take the lead to prove that under a spotlight, you have got to dance as if everybody was watching. ted baker Grand Indonesia, 1st Floor #30A, Jakarta. AIGNER WOMAN BAG Urban and Exotic
The Aigner Leather Collection Spring Summer 2014 has the goal of bringing you on a journey into the heart of Brazil, to the metropolis Rio de Janeiro, as the inspiration of the luxurious bag was the leather fiery samba rhythms, the sweeping exuberance of the famous Brazilian carnival and Rio’s urban exotic flair. The design also interprets the beauty and power of South American women. The embossing patterns on the leather reflects the country’s lush flora and fauna, as its surface structures are of the crocodile and lizard skin, the use of raffia texture, and the handcrafted braided elements and Saffiano leather, symbolizing the richness of the rainforest. The taste of South America is also echoed in the colours of the leather divided into three themes of colour ranges: Birds of The Amazon which consists of the exotic, fresh world of the Amazon rainforest: Palm Green, Rio Blue and Toucan Yellow paired with White and Raffia hues; Sublime Nature which covers the soft, clean natural shades of Amazon Green, Apricot, Terra and Bahia Brown; Copa Carnival which has the strong, feminine and intense colours representing joy, dance and driving rhythms: Heliconia, Pitaya Red and Gold, anchored by Acacia Brown. As the Munich-based leather lifestyle brand remains true to classic craftsmanship and focussing on the finest leather qualities, careful finishing and modern design, Aigner revives classic models such as “All In”, “Icon Cover” and “Cavalline” by adding

a new, elegant twist with creative elements such as leopard prints and innovative textural embossing. Milan, January 13, 2014 - Arigato. Grazie. One word, two worlds. A collection that stems from a timeworn diary that creative director Brendan Mullane found in the Brioni archives, a detailed travel journal penned by co-founder Gaetano Savini in 1963, during his first trip to Japan. Hence, a contemporary East-meets-West inspiration, infused with Caravaggio’s dramatic and moody chiaroscuro hues found in his works created whilst in Rome. Sparked by a trip Mullane and the Brioni creative team took to Japan, the collection effortlessly and innovatively blends multicultural contrasts and expertise through kimono artisans, Brioni’s Italian heritage, the streamlined architecture of Tadao Ando, evoked in knitted metal inlays, and the artworks at the Biennale of Naoshima. A message full of prosperity, happiness and strength that transcends the seasons. In Japan, Mullane also visited the renowned kimono artists of “Chiso”, commissioning them an exclusive print used on silk shirts and the Kyoto

A sartorial version consists of kimono revers on belted silhouettes in sartorial checked wools that inject a contemporary vibe to Brioni’s bespoke tradition while preserving its longstanding identity and integrity. The color palette includes Caravaggio’s renaissance tones, silk navy, midnight smoke, giusquiamo green, cherry brandy, cherry blossom, dry bougainvillea and geisha red-in either solid colorings or discreetly woven, dyed or superimposed into high-density Japanese wools, mohair and silk blends and
double-faced cashmere, often with 3D effects. Also of note is a sheared mink coat with a handsculpted Prince of Wales effect. Week-end bags, cabin styles and holdalls in embossed chevron wools, grained calfskin, cashmere and shaved mink complete each look, while the footwear revolves around double monks, brogues and fringed tasseled loafers with hand-crafted winter soles, all featuring a discreet hand-polished brass plate on the sole. At Milan’s Museo della Permanente space, the emotional multi-roomed presentation reflects a Japanese mood, complete with typical screens and projections of soothing cherry tree blooms counterpointed by Collier Schorr’s floating prints on canvas.

HERMES Stealth Wealth For Fall-Winter Menswear collection 2014, Hermes once again proved to be ahead compared to the rest in menswear fashion. This season they are able to keep their formal, chic and elegant look, with the calfskin coats and crocodile varsity jackets with leather sleeves. In general Hermes is recognized as one of the most conservative fashion houses and tends to gracefully glide through the snail pace in changing its menswear fashion. That is why there is very little in this collection that is new here. Stealth wealth is what the House of Hermes understands very well, and it is in fact a function of the label’s DNA. The main focus Fall-Winter 2014 Menswear collection is quality and craftsmanship. The house’s signature is being able to take the best quality and most beautiful fabrics and elevate them into exquisite designs, without much

Bottega Veneta Fall - Winter 2014/2015 Men collection is filled with the juxtaposition of attitudes, mixing proper uniform and effortless athletic wear. This collection is marked by ease and informality, although each piece has a distinct sophistication which is brought out of the house using luxurious fabrics, detailed construction and refined yet softly tailored silhouette. The warm, luxurious and sensual materials of this collection include calf suede, lambskin, shearling, making itself into various incarnations. Various gauges are made of woollen and knits, including cashmere, camel hair, flannels and English double-faced wools. Some of the clothes use patterned woollen, custom made in the form of checks, including a Glen plaid. The mixture of informal and uniform is seen in this season’s coat and jacket,in variety of shapes and sizes, from the classic three-button jacket to the double-breasted one, including pea coats and cloth jackets,

which are completely reversible, one side patterned, and the other side solid - making them adaptable enough to go from weekday to weekend. The pants had tapered leg and ribbed cuffs, constructed in either leather, flannel, suede or double-faced wool. Bottega Veneta plays with its new technique throughout the collection by unusually inserting leather and suede, combining pattern on another pattern, including colored edging and dip-dyed elements. Even the crafted accessories are in line with the informal tone and mixture of ease and sophistication. The bags are in either waxed leather or washed ostrich skin. “The collection is about versatility and ease, continuing the exploration of how a look can take you both here and there,” says Creative Director Tomas Maier, “I am always thinking about what a man would need and what would work for him, whether in the city or the country - these are the questions we answered. bottega veneta Senayan City Mall #G01, G09 &G87, Jakarta. Dunhill Discreet Elegance
The British luxury goods brand, specializing in readyto-wear for men, luxury leather goods and accessories, is based in London where it also owns and operates a leather workshop. Known today for its rich heritage and premium leather goods and accessories, the first collection of Alfred Dunhill, after inheriting it from his father, responded to the growing demand for automobiles which developed a line of accessories called “Dunhill’s Motorities”, including car horns, lamps, leather overcoats and others. Alfred Dunhill himself was always devoted to creating the finest male luxury goods with appreciation of classic design and attention to details, combined with modern functionality and contemporary style. The Dunhill leather family recently welcomes the Belgrave Blue addition, offering a luxurious combination of a mini Franzini pattern onto an exquisite, supple and full grain Italian calf hide. The elegant and discreet midnight blue option is an extension of the original Belgrave collection which was in black and oxblood. The name Belgrave Blue

The collection is clean and meticulously crafted and arrives in varying shapes and sizes that are both compact and functional; included in the collection are: a 10cc zip around coat wallet, 9cc and 6cc billfold wallet and 4cc billfold, coin purse, simple card case and 7 hook key case. The Belgrave Blue collection in navy and contrasting mustard is made of soft and supple full grain calf hide leather, printed with a Mini Franzi fine textured pattern. The Alfred Dunhill badge is constructed from Stainless Steel and covered in gold coloured PVD, offering a uniform finish and helps to make it scratch resistant during daily use. Chanel Poetic Perfection
CHANEL’s Autumn Make-up Collection 2014 was inspired by the art of poetry, where beyond verses, lays the idea of absolute perfection which is invisible to the eye. The color palette of this season is expressed in poetic tenderness: pink, in a spectrum of shades, intense and fragile. Between tenderness and passion, Chanel presents a poetic and romantic collection to enhance the beauty of the eyes, lips, nails, and complexion. The palette of Chanel’s eye shadows brings tenderness or passion in infinite variations. Ombre Essential, the monochrome eye shadows, presents assertive, vibrant and uncompromising color to adorn the eyelids, with 6 different shades of intensity; while Les 4 Ombres Poesie brings in the gradation of shadows for a palette of light and dark tones for contrasting eye makeup, wavering between softness and intensity. The four shades included in Les 4 Ombres Poesie are two medium shades of beige; pure, light rosewood; reddish brown and violet-plum. While the eyes are naturally at the very heart of Chanel’s poetic and romantic collection, the smile is still the one that lights up with shiny lipstick or scintillating gloss. The eyeshadows and nail colors of the same collection are matched by each shade of Chanel’s two lines of product: ROUGE COCO and LÈVRES SCINTILLANTES. ROUGE COCO SHINE presents two semi-sheer shades of romantic freshness - universal pink (INTIME) and intense rosewood

(CONFIDENT). VIVA and AURA, a raspberry and deep black-currant shade, are the two most striking shades with higher concentration of pigments, displaying assertive seduction. LÈVRES SCINTILLANTES illuminates the smile with sparkling gloss. The three shades matching nail colors of the same collection are ROSE RÊVÉ, a soft milky pink, SECRET, a romantic boudoir, SONGE, a pearly multi-colored shimmers. The nail colors consist of three shades betraying every emotion to the
tips of the fingers: SECRET, a soft milky pink, ATMOSPHERE, a pearly nail color with unique multiple shimmers, and ORAGE an anthracite gray mixed with blue, which brings turbulence. Chanel’s Autumn Make-up 2014 Collection also has shades for the complexion. JOUES CONTRASTE subtly expresses itself with INNOCENCE, a shade of warm rosewood. Using the shade, the cheekbones are slightly embraced, like the fleeting shadow of a hidden emotion.

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER PARFUMS
On the Docks The well-known fact on Jean Paul Gaultier’s vision regarding Masculinity and Femininity has always been clear – Gaultier girls are strong and have a take on a masculine attitude, expressed in the ostentatious lingerie of emancipated femininity, while Gaultier boys are proud with their sensitive and feminine side, which is rendered in the first skirts created for men and the possibility of wearing makeup. The playful role inversion and gender blending illustrate Gaultier’s unique vision of Woman and Man, captured in the 20 year series of narrating advertisements – The Kiss (1997), The Date (2000), The Apartment (2009) and On the Docks (2013). The role inversion in The Kiss (1997) was presented through the scene of Classique the woman, in flesh-colored corset and leather skirt, who makes love to her sailor, greedily and shamelessly, overturning codes to assuage her cravings, while the man, being faced with this conquering will, lets himself be devoured with caresses, embraces and kisses. The Date (2000) starts the scene with pure eroticism – a silhouette walking confidently, and a pair of lips
84

Jean Paul Gaultier.indd 84

approaching the sleeping sailor. Roles was once again inversed – she is he, and he is the Sleeping Beauty. The Apartment (2009) reveals the sensitivity of the sailor, as he emerges from his slumber and is powerless to stop her from leaving. As he buries his head in the pillow, still warm with her fragrance, he reveals his vulnerable femininity in him – he is no longer the tough guy who leaves behind a mistress in each port. The continuation of Gaultier’s narrative advertising is On the Docks (2013) where Classique the woman is not Juliet, who waited patiently and passively for her Romeo. As the sailor slices through the tarmac and runs onto the bridge of his freighter, Classique makes a manly grab for him when he comes to her balcony. It is a new
carefree chapter in Gaultier-style femininity and masculinity, rid of all the hang-ups. 1993 marks the birth of Classique, Jean Paul Gaultier’s first perfume, a true Amazon laced up in a metal corset, sensual and spellbinding with a mixture of rose, orange blossom, vanilla and amber wood. Classique the woman is a fearless conqueror, afraid of nothing and proud of her seductive powers and femininity. She is the symbol of a sophisticated femme fatale. “Jean Paul Gaultier mirrors what has become of feminine seduction. The roles have been reversed, the man has become an object. But there is neither aggressiveness nor castration, it is just a new way to play the game,” says Pascal Beucler.

AZIMUT YACHTS
A New Pearl
A brand new pearl of further innovation to the sporty motoryacht sector was added to the S Collection of Azimut - the 55S. The 55S is a revolution in changing the traditional and layout, where the three cabins dedicated to the owner and guests are located amidships, offering comfort and larger volumes, and the crew cabin positioned in the bows. The 55S also has new spaces on the deck: a seating corner with the sofa facing forward and separated from the large sun deck.
92
Registry Indonesia
The revolution itself is not only limited in spaces, it started from below the waterline, down in the engine room, where a triple Vovo ISP-2 system: three 435 HP engines with a pod, and double counter-rotating propellers placed at the front. The machines produce a total power output of 1,305 HP and is accompanied by limited overall weight. The Azimut 55S uses glass-carbon composite for large areas of the deck and deckhouse and also carbon fibre to make structural parts. This innovation reduce the weight of these structures by 37% and of the usage of glass-carbon reduce the weight by 10%. The Azimut 55S has excellent sporty performance with a top speed of over 36 knots. Moreover, using three engines instead of only two, would give even more benefits: at comparable horsepower (HP) three engines weighs less than two, consume less, and produce fewer emissions; three turbo-charged engines have less inertia than two and respond more quickly, therefore, increases
reactivity and the sense of sportiness. The new layout optimizes and innovates all the spaces aboard, starting with the stern. Azimut’s long-standing designer, Stefano Righini, causes the bathing platform to appear at first sight to be a normal teak platform jutting out about a metre over the sea. With a wholly new and original idea, a simple press of the button changes the zone completely: the garage door, fixed to the bathing platform in an L shape, opens and bends towards the sea, dipping the original bathing platform into the sea and disappears underwater, replaced by a new bathing platform. Righini moved around the crew accommodation, the VIP cabin, third cabin for guests and Master cabin, so that the cabins may benefit from greater volumes, the widest point of the yacht and also the greatest stability. The strong contrasts between the use of zebrawood, and the magnolia tone of the buffalo grain capitonnÊ leather, assures a perfect form and brings out a sporty character of the yacht.

The piece had a removable bezel made of polycarbonate, transparent and with small luminescent or black dot markers. Panerai watches were created to military order between 1936-1950 and never produced for sale to the public until 1993.
BELL & ROSS Rocket on The Streets Watchmaker Bell & Ross once again commissioned Saw HarleyDavidson to design a concept bike, inspired by aeronautical design of the very first American jet aircraft, with sleek and powerful look of extreme modernity. They did not ask for a motorcycle. They asked for a legend - a legend of an airplane-motorcycle: B-Rocket. B-Rocket is a concept bike with a neo-retro look and lines encapsulating the essential principles of aeronautical design, which cuts through the air using its striking conical jet nose, its cabin, its fin and its propulsion turbines. This exceptional motorcycle is designed to represent a watchmaking firm that believes in the authenticity of its designs and functions and aims to perfect the modernity.

MEIKE SAHALA GRAND TOUR
Day 1
The Heritage of Semarang In an age where cultural heritage of a society is blurred by modern lifestyle and globalization, Meike Sahala appears as the heroin of Indonesian cultural heritage who revives and reinterprets it in her modern crafts as a jewellery designer and curator of precious metal, such as eternalizing batik motifs in gold. Her masterpiece, Megrania, is the synonym of avant grande jewellery of Indonesia. Her love towards Indonesian culture and art grew in her teenage years, as well as her admiration for Indonesia’s female hero, R.A. Kartini, who inspired her even more to perpetuate Indonesian cultural heritage.
112
From the 16th-17th May 2014, the mayor of Semarang, Mr. Hendrar Prihadi, in collaboration with Meike Sahala, the Indonesian artisan and curator of precious metal, originated from Semarang, initiated an event to celebrate the 467th anniversary of the city Semarang, which focused on the heritage, art and show of the city. The event was named Grand Tour Semarang Heritage Art Show of Meike Sahala. Semarang is the capital city of Central Jawa, first founded by Raden Kaji Kasepuhan, also known as Ki Pandang Arang II, on May the 2nd, 1547 and was inaugerated by the king at the time, Sultan Hadiwijaya. The name ‘Semarang’ is derived
Registry Indonesia
Megrania Semarang.indd 112

from the words ‘asam’, which is the Indonesian term for tamarind, and ‘arang-arang’ which is a Javanese term for seldom or rare. The name was given by Ki Pandan Arang II, the founder of the city, who -in his journey towards this place- saw a row of tamarind trees, standing far from each other, making each tree appear rarely along the journey. Though the story of how the name of the city came to be may be interesting, the Grand Tour of Semarang Heritage did not start here. It started at a legendary and iconic building of Semarang - Lawang Sewu. Together with Tugu Muda, the building is located in the center of Semarang’s historical heritage, Simpang Lima, where the city of Semarang started its development. Lawang Sewu was also a historical building as it was once used for the headquarters for the biggest three railway companies in Indonesia. It became the city’s icon of prosperity as it commemorates the time when railway first made its way to Semarang. The choice to hold an art event in Lawang Sewu, to begin the Grand Tour, is to revive the building’s historical value.

Meike Sahala successfully combined cultural and art show with cultural heritage tourist destinations of Semarang. Fashion shows and jewellery exhibition were not the only attraction in the event that Meike Sahala wanted to present. On the contrary, she digged deeper into the cultural background and heritage of the city and reinterpreted them into the show, with the collaboration of Museum Kartini, Museum Ranggawarsita and Museum Rembang. Collections of Museum Ranggawarsita were showcased to represent the prosperity of the ancient Hindu Kingdom of Mataram, while various noble relics stored in the Museum Rembang and Museum Kartini, representing the spirit of change that R.A. Kartini spread among Indonesian women of her time, were installed as an important part of the event. Seen in the background, stained glass artwork, created in the 18th century, was emblazoned. At the top of the stairs, an old traditional musical instrument, a Gamelan of Kanjengan, which is the oldest artifact owned by the

Museum Ranggawarsita, was displayed. Several other artifacts can bee found throughout the venue, among others, the sculpture of the Vishnu god, which is a part of the triune god, who symbolizing the custodian of the world, the sculpture of Durga, the goddess in Hindu mythology, knows as the horrifying godddes. There were also the Lingga and Yoni, relics founod on the Sukuh Temple in the Mount of Lawu, which are symbols of femininity and masculinity. In order to present the art and culture show held throughout the Grand Tour event of Semarang heritage, Meike Sahala strived to trace back the old stories of the times when traders from Gujarat, Persia
and China harboured on Semarang shores and interpreted them into artistic jewellery. The traders brought with them their cultural heritage into Semarang which then gave colour to the local culture as we can see today. But the colour of Semarang’s culture was not only painted by the traveling traders, but mostly by the ancient kingdom of Mataram which was greatly influenced by the Hindu religion. The culture grew and became richer as Laksamana Chengho came not only to trade but also to spread his Islamic belief. The cultural heritage was interpreted in different cultural and art show such as in the traditional music Warak Ngendong or Gambang Semarang, and in batik motifs unique to the

area of Mega Mendung, Banji, and Burung Hong. The Grand Tour of Semarang’s heritage was held on the 467th anniversary of Semarang and the birthday of RA Kartini. Thus the spirit of reviving R.A. Kartini’s ideas was integrated in the Grand Tour. The event also featured an exhibition of Meike Sahala’s jewellery with fashion shows, presenting exquisite collections of traditional batik, offering a broad variety of culinary delights, a city tour by the traditional transportation known as the becak, and a photography exhibition and book launch of the Indonesia Press Photo Service (IPPHOS) at the Semarang Contemporary Art Gallery. A luncheon was held at the Ikan Bakar Cianjur Restaurant, which was once the Landraad office (city council) during the Dutch colonial
116
era, and the banquet was sponsored by the Semarang Heritage Condotel, the first of its kind four star hotel located in the old city. Travelling by the vintage coal fired train from the Ambarawa train station and whilst sipping on hot coffee, participants were also invited to enjoy the hilly landscape of the coffee and cocoa plantations. The cultural journey was then wrapped up with a visit to the house of craft, a centre of craft and art training, where children could learn to paint their own batik and make carvings on metal for example. Finally, the entire event could not have been successful with the support and sponsorship of the Semarang City Government, PT Kereta Api Indonesia, Museum Rangga Warsita, Lions Club International and Lions Club Jakarta Pelita Sejati, as well as the Semarang Heritage Condotel.

PHOENIX ART gallery Nature’s Wild Phoenix Art Gallery features the paintings of Indonesia’s finest artists, one of whom is Tio Tjay, who started his career at a very young age in Chinese painting and calligraphy. The couple of decades that he spent in Brazil and Paraguay during his younger years, led him to develop his painting skills and shifted his interest from Chinese art to a strong attraction towards nature’s wild, through his fascination on the exotic Amazon rainforest. It is in this period that Tio Tjay started fixating his inspiration on themes that convey the message of nature’s preservation. The object of his paintings are the wildlife found in the rainforest of Amazon as well as Borneo with odd additions of details such as empty soft-drinks plastic bottles, and other signs of garbage pollution. The paintings conveys a message to humanity in regards to the exploitation of rainforest without any efforts of reforestation, despite of law. The message conveyed in his paintings of Nature’s Wildlife was what interested the French cultural center who then opened the opportunity for Tio Tjay to have his own exhibition in Balikpakan, Kalimantan, sponsored by the French oil Company, Total E&P Indonesia, in the 1980’s. 100 YEARS TUGU KUNSTKRING PALEIS
The Dark Treasures of Tugu On the 17 April 2014, a building that has been standing for 100 years at Jalan Teuku Umar 1 was filled with lights, joy and celebration. Tugu Kunstkring Paleis, the name of the building, was inaugurated as the canter of art and culture for Nederlandsch-Indische Kunstkring 100 years ago, on 17 April 1914, by General Governor of Batavia in the era, Alexander Willem Frederik Idenburg. Today, besides serving as an art gallery, it also functions as a restaurant, run by the Tugu Hotels and Restaurants Group. The 100th year commemoration of the Kunstring building features a specific art exhibition of the private collection belonging to Tugu

Hotels and Restaurants Group -- The Dark Treasures. The collection once belonged to a high society class named Babah Peranakan, descendants of the 15th through 17th century Chinese immigrants to the Indonesian archipelago and British Malaya (now Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore). Due to the inequality of information dissemination and the domination of media from Europe, Eurasia and Indigenous groups for 200 years, the highly valuable art collections have never been published. The private collection of Tugu Hotels and Restaurants Group are surviving works from this era which have been hidden away for the past 53 years in the darkest chambers of

a Babah Peranakan family, to avoid the 1961 Economic Court decision that led to the order of confiscation. Hundreds were saved, put away in silence, sealed and untouched. It is the collection of these Dark Treasures that were publicly exhibited for the first time to Indonesian and international community’s during the event. Some of the masterpieces had been owned once by tycoons of Indonesia during the Dutch colonial times, including the family of (Mrs) Raden Ajeng Kasinem, the first wife of Oei Tiong Ham, known as the Sugar Baron, the richest man in Asia in the early 1900s. Many of these tycoons were married to native women of Java and Bali, who played a
critical role in the process of collecting the masterpieces. One of the paintings collected by Tugu Hotels and Restaurants family was a museum masterpiece, Tiger, to remember the Tycoon who was born under the Chinese sign Tiger. The painting was made by the famous painter Zang Daqian in the summer of 1944. Part of the collection were from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty who ruled China between 1644 and 1911 and again in the 1930s. Paintings were gained from English, French and Russian soldiers when they seized, ransacked and burned the Summer Palace in Beijing.
