Publisher’s Note

Dear Readers, Summer is coming. Here in Indonesia, while many of us are observing the fasting month of Ramadhan, everyone is looking forward to having another holiday season. To make the season even more festive, Registry Indonesia unveils the SpringSummer 2017 collections of international fashion brands, such as Kenzo Women, Aigner and Emporio Armani women. In line with the theme of this edition, which is Men’s Issue, we also present the latest masterpieces presented by Versace, Berluti and Canali – all are sophisticatedly designed for men with class. Gracing the cover of our Men’s Issue are four restaurateurs who play crucial roles in Indonesia Café and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association (Apkrindo) for East Java Chapter: Mr. Tjahjono Haryono, Mr. Steven Johnsons Tjan, Mr. Mufid Wahyudi and Mr. Stephen Walla. Just read our cover story, in which they express their opinions on the association and the industry while talking about their F&B businesses. We also feature profile stories on Mr. Eddy Hui, the man who runs the Hong Kong based Edward Chiu Jewellery Art, and the award-winning painter Mr. Sidik W Martowidjojo. Edward Chiu Jewellery Art is known as a brand of precious and timeless jades, and Mr. Hui was recently in Jakarta to hold an exclusive event showcasing the brand’s latest collection. No less interesting is the story of Francisca Prandayani from Aston Martin Jakarta, a charming woman who is taking a leadership role in male-dominated industry. It’s an inspiring piece that is worth reading, indeed. And speaking of the world of sports cars, our publisher’s note this time highlights Rolls-Royce “Sweptail”. As Giles Taylor, director of design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, “Sweptail is the automotive equivalent of haute couture.” As holiday season is nearing, we take you to Hoshinoya Bali. It is the first Hoshinoya brand by the Japanese Hoshino Resorts opened abroad, which is located in the lush green hills of Ubud. If you prefer to go to the island’s southern peninsula, the Westin Resort Nusa Dua can be the ideal one for you and your family. In the world of watches, don’t miss Richard Mille on Board for the 8th Edition of Les Voiles St Barth, Rolex Baselworld 2017, and Hublot Techframe: A Ferrari Design for a Hublot watch in commemorating Ferrari’s 70th Anniversary. Is that it? Just flip through the pages to find more of what this Issue has to offer.

ROLLS-ROYCE

Realisation of a Coachbuilt Dream

When Rolls-Royce presented 103EX to the world in 2016, it invoked its coachbuilding heritage to inspire its future clientele. This Vision Vehicle envisaged a world of completely personal luxury mobility where new technologies would allow every Rolls-Royce to be designed in their owners’ image. Nevertheless, the mere idea of a modern coachbuilt Rolls-Royce was not enough for one Rolls-Royce connoisseur. This individual approached the marque with his own idea of a two-seat Rolls-Royce that he wanted to be created in the here and now. That motorcar is here, now and is christened ‘Sweptail’.

18

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, “Sweptail is a truly magnificent car. It exudes the romance of travel for its own sake, and immediately places ‘Sweptail’ in the pantheon of the world’s great intercontinental tourers. Rolls-Royce’s history as the world’s leading coachbuilder is at the very core of its identity as the world’s leading luxury brand. The arrival of 103EX shone a light on the future of RollsRoyce in this field, and ‘Sweptail’ is a proof that Rolls-Royce is today at the pinnacle of coachbuilding. We are listening carefully to our most special customers and assessing their interest in investing in similar, completely exclusive coachbuilt masterpieces.”

“Sweptail is the automotive equivalent of Haute Couture,” comments Giles Taylor, Director of Design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. “It is a Rolls-Royce designed and hand-tailored to fit a specific customer. This customer came to the House of Rolls-Royce with an idea, shared in the creative process where we advised him on his cloth, and then we tailored that cloth to him. You might say we cut the cloth for the suit of clothes that he will be judged by.” Inspired by the beautiful coachbuilt Rolls-Royces of the 1920s and 1930s, the client’s desire was for a coachbuilt two-seater coupé featuring

a large panoramic glass roof. As a connoisseur of Rolls-Royces, he was inspired by many of his favourite cars from the marque’s golden era of the early 20th Century, as well as many classic and modern yachts. The cleanliness of the surface of ‘Sweptail’ is maintained as the bodywork wraps under the car with no visible boundary to the surfaces, a treatment that is akin to the hull of a yacht. The underside of the motor car was designed to deliver the visual of a progressive upward sweep at the rear departure angle of the car, culminating in the swept-tail that gives ‘Sweptail’ it name.

Generous quantities of polished Macassar Ebony and open-pore Paldao adorn the interior, creating visual and tactile contrasts for the owner, both classical and contemporary. All their forms however are thoroughly modern as they echo the exterior lines of ‘Sweptail’, hand-formed to encircle the occupants with some of the most beautiful natural materials in the world. The personalisation extends further by an entire centre console, which houses a one-off hand-built mechanism that, at the touch of a button, will deploy a bottle of the client’s favourite vintage champagne – the year of his birth – and two crystal champagne flutes.

SeTTinG f&B TrendS

Dedicated with positive business minds, the four figures representing Indonesia Café and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association (Apkrindo) for East Java Chapter talk about the association, their F&B businesses and their views on the industry. Surabaya, as Indonesia’s second largest city and the capital of East Java, is experiencing the popping up of more F&B establishments, from restaurants serving local to international fare as well as coffee shops and hangouts with innovative concepts. In addition to creating the opportunities for human resources and welcoming more diners seeking the latest culinary options, the competition is also there and is getting stiffer with more players outdo each other in the F&B industry. Apkrindo for East Java Chapter has thus far played its function as a platform for restaurateurs to engage in positive competition while building strong relationships among them. The association regularly conducts various events such as information dissemination and promotional activities with the objective of helping to create a better future of Surabaya and East Java’s F&B businesses. In addition, Apkrindo also actively supports the local government to promote the province, especially the city of Surabaya, as a destination for culinary journey. Registry Indonesia recently had the correspondence with four successful restaurateurs who are in charge of Apkrindo for East Java Chapter’s management: Tjahjono Haryono and Steven Tjan who serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman, respectively; and Mufid Wahyudi and Stephen Walla as the association’s Secretary General and Treasurer, respectively.

Tjahjono Haryono The restaurateur and Chairman of Indonesia Café and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association (Apkrindo) for East Java Chapter is determined to contribute his best in scaling Surabaya’s F&B sector at greater heights. At the helm of Apkrindo for East Java Chapter, Tjahjono Haryono is tasked with the coordination of activities involving all the committees and members of the chapter. “We work hand-in-hand to build a strong relationship with the local government, which includes East Java and Surabaya as the capital. One of the activities we regularly conduct is disseminating information on Surabaya as a city that boasts various culinary excitements.” Under Tjahjono’s leadership, Apkrindo has been supportive in helping the local government to promote Surabaya as a culinary destination. “Likewise, we are proud of the local government that has demonstrated their favourable support and corporation. This has been done through various activities, such as organising Tunjungan Festival that features culinary event as one of the main attractions.” Tjahjono has been serving as the chairman of Apkrindo for East Java Chapter for two terms. His first term was during 2010-2014, and he was re-elected in 2014 to serve his second term until 2018. “What motivated me to join the association is its function that gathers various business players in the F&B industry. Apkrindo is not just representing senior business players, but even the start-ups are welcomed to join. It’s a great platform to exchange knowledge and learn from one to another,” he further explains. Tjahjono’s foray into the F&B sector includes managing Wok Restaurant, which is part of Sekar Group. Work Restaurant itself is a group of three establishments namely Wok Noodle, House of Wok and Wok Express. Serving noodle and fried rice as the main food on the menu, each of the three restaurants is designed with the simple and fast concept. Currently, the restaurant group operates 24 outlets in some locations in Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Malang, Batu, Mojokerto, Madiun and Solo. “We are planning to open more outlets in the coming years. Jakarta and other big cities across the country are the targets for our expansion.” Holder of Master’s Degree from National University of San Diego, the 47-year-old says that he has had the passion for culinary world since many years ago. As a restaurateur, Tjahjono surely appreciates different culinary creations from various corners of the world. Yet, he puts Indonesian food, especially Manado and Surabaya cuisines, on the top list. Savouring culinary journey is part of how the father of two appreciates the art of travelling. “I travel twice a year. New Zealand and Taiwan are thus far my overseas favourite travel destinations. Here in the country, I love Manado, Borneo and Bali.” Asked about his opinion on the fashion industry, Tjahjono remarks that today’s fashion scene is evolving with more innovative designs. Among the fashion brands he admire are Mark and Spencer for its easy-to-wear collections, and Hush Puppies for its shoes. Aside from his busy agenda filled with Apkrindo’s activities and his business daily routine, Tjahjono also devotes himself to being a speaker and business coach at some universities. In mentoring youngsters, he always emphasises on the following three keywords: Have the passion, work hard and never give up. “They are the motivational tips developed from my business, organisational and personal activities.”

Steven johnsons Tjan The presence of Apkrindo is very crucial in creating the sustainability of F&B business, says Steven Johnsons Tjan, Vice Chairman of Indonesia Café and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association (Apkrindo) for East Java Chapter. Holding his current position since 2010, Steven is tasked with helping the association solve issues arising from F&B business activities. “We are also here to make sure that the competitiveness is fair and healthy in the industry.” He adds that friendship, community, and business focus are the three main reasons that urged him to join Apkrindo. “We have a strong brotherhood of restaurateurs, and we are here under the umbrella of Apkrindo to strengthen our bonds amidst the competitive F&B market.” Speaking of competitiveness, Steven explains that it’s not easy to survive in a food business in Surabaya. “The city is one of the toughest markets for F&B industry. Surabaya people really know how to value good food. There are many local cooks and restaurateurs, including those running food stall establishments, who have survived their businesses for more than 25 years. To embark on a restaurant business in Surabaya, make sure you can offer something good to the market. Otherwise the business will not survive.” Steven obtained his Bachelor of Business majoring in IT & Finance from University of Technology Sydney in 2002. Now he’s still 36, but Steven has rich culinary experiences under his belt, from being a barista and ran his own coffee shop while in his academic pursuit in Sydney Australia all the way to joining Sushi-Tei upon his graduation. Gaining a valuable experience working with Sushi-Tei group, he then moved to Surabaya and chipped in some capital funds to build F&B business with Boga Group and Sushi-Tei Group. Under the both groups, Steven runs different brands of F&B establishments in the city’s popular malls. Among the F&B brands are Bakerzin that operates three outlets, Sushi-Tei with five outlets, Fish & Co with three outlets, and a Chinese eatery called Paradise Dynasty. No less interesting, he also runs Pasarame in Pakuwon Mall. “The business just opened to the public last February. It’s a new concept of food court in Surabaya. All the F&B items offered here must be transacted using one of the cards we call Kartu Jajan or Kartu Juara.” At his spare time, Steven loves to treasure for new food at new places with his family. “If there is no new place, we usually just chill out at one of our restaurants.” In the list of his favourite food, Steven says he loves Japanese cuisine “because when the Japanese do their food plating, they really use their heart to serve customers.” Traveling is one activity that he loves doing. “I travel twice a year. I love Japan, Bali and the U.S. The reasons are simply because each of these destinations are the homes to good food, good people and good fashion brands.” In relation to the fashion world, Steven asserts that he loves Diesel and G-Star Jeans as the both brands have very dedicated R&D team. “True Religion shirts are great for its accessories. And I kind of falling in love with Japanese street wear brands somehow. They are fantastic. Whether it is just marketing or truly good, their materials and designs are indeed unique.”

Stephen Walla Helping to contribute the growth of the F&B in Indonesia in general and East Java in particular is what motivated Stephen Walla to join Indonesia Café and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association (Apkrindo). Stephen has been the Treasurer of the Apkrindo for East Java Chapter since 2010. In his position, he is responsible for managing the financial cash flows and maintaining the financial soundness of the association. Yet, as part of the core team of Apkrindo for East Java Chapter, Stephen is also involved in most of the association’s activities. “The F&B industry in Surabaya has been growing quite significantly, not only in terms of the number of the establishments, but also the types and variants of the food as well as other elements involved like the F&B production, the technology, the presentation, the service, and also the ambience that includes both interior and exterior designs – all of which have moved up to another level,” he asserts adding, “The presence of Apkrindo can indeed help the growth of F&B industry in Indonesia.” Stephen adds that Apkrindo also functions as the bridge between owners of restaurants and cafés, and the government or policy makers. “The objective is clear, which is to support Indonesia’s economic growth.” As a restaurateur, Stephen first embarked on the F&B industry by involving in a family business. In 1990, he established Ria Indonesian Delicacies, serving Indonesian food and beverages with speciality in East Javanese fare. Stephen in 2010 developed a new concept in Jamu IBOE, a traditional natural herbal drink brand owned by his family since 1910. Featuring an open public space concept, IBOE Herbal Bar or Herbal Kiosk can be found in food courts, shopping malls and other public places. He did not stop there. In 2014, he developed another concept, IBOE Griya Herba which is a herbal house featuring Jamu IBOE Café and Jamu IBOE products gallery. “The development and regeneration of jamu products, jamu drinkers and jamu consumption habits are very important, so what lies behind developing both concepts is that we want to position jamu as culinary & lifestyle healthy beverage products that can be consumed daily everywhere & by everyone from young generations to old generations,” says Stephen whose education background is Decision Information Science and Management Science & Statistics. Asked what his long-term goal as a restaurateur, Stephen replies, “To be able to professionally and continuously grow and expand Indonesian F&B products not only to Indonesian market but also global market.” In creating a balanced life, Stephen does some sport activities like tennis and fun walk, and he is also into travelling and culinary adventure. “I often do sports and hang out at restaurants with my family and friends. I love Indonesian and Chinese cuisines. I really like spicy food. There are so many spices across the archipelago. Different origins have different spices and styles of cooking and presentation. And I travel three to four times a year to escape to recharge my batteries.” He adds that Bali, European countries and China are on the top list of his favourite destinations. “I love those places for their richness in culinary delicacies, cultures, ancient and historic architectural buildings, and beautiful natural sceneries.” In appreciating the world of fashion, Stephen admires Hugo Boss fashion brand and batik. “Hugo Boss is always consistent with its creative design and look. The brand has products with nice fitting and great quality materials. I especially love batik for its authentic, exotic and artistic design. It’s an Indonesian heritage masterpiece crafted with great skills.”

Mufid Wahyudi Having served as Secretary General of Indonesia Café and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association (Apkrindo) for East Java Chapter since 2010, Mufid Wahyudi remarks the high spirit that the association has shared with its members. “Despite the tough competition in the F&B industry, we as restaurateurs are here under the umbrella of Aprkindo to work hand-in-hand in supporting the industry,” Mufid asserts. In his current position, Mufid is tasked with managing association as well as planning activities with all the committees. “The F&B industry in Surabaya is growing fast, with more and more of young entrepreneurs embarking on the business. Many of these youngsters are indeed very innovative and create new opportunities for the industry to move forward. Apkrindo also welcomes the young restaurateurs to join the association, where they can involve in information sharing sessions as well as learning from the senior F&B business players.” Mufid’s first foray into the F&B industry was initially marked with operating his first local store in 1998, and he has since 2006 held a Master Franchise of Indonesia for Black Canyon Coffee, an international brand from Thailand. To date, the business has grown with Black Canyon Coffee outlets opened in major cities across the archipelago. In 2013, Mufid opened a number of F&B outlets at both domestic and international terminals of Bali Ngurah Rai Airport, such as Last Wave, Coffee Club, Made’s Warung, Pizza Hut, Black Canyon Coffee, T/G Food Corner, T/G Lounge, just to name a few. In the same year, he also established a number of F&B outlets at the Terminal 2 of Juanda Airport Surabaya, such as Burger King and Pop’s Chicken. And since 2016 he has operated a number of F&B stores at the Domestic Terminal 3 Ultimate of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, such as Kulinari Food Market, Bakso Afung, Ramen 38, Warung Tekko, Holycow, Liberica, Black Canyon Coffee, Hong Tang, Bekal Dari Ibu just to name a few. Moreover, Mufid also owns some F&B outlets at Makassar and Jambi Airports. With all the F&B businesses that he runs, Mufid, whose academic background is Advertising Studies, says that his long-term goal is to expand his horizon from being a national restaurateur to international player, not only in Indonesia but also overseas. “I’m very confident that I can achieve the goal as long as we are creatively able to make differentiation in the business. Focus and know the business well. That’s the recipe,” he says adding that his long-term goal with Apkrindo is to create sustainable assessment and certification of its members. Life is not all about work. Despite his busy daily schedule, Mufid allocates his weekends for hanging out with his family and friends. “Going to the mall, watching movie, playing golf with my son and friends, those activities are basically what make our weekends happening.” Mufid is also a travel buff and culinary adventurer. “I travel at least three times a year for overseas destinations and I frequently visit other cities in the country. The top three among my favourite travel places are Mecca for my spiritual destination, Sydney as I always regard it as my second home, and Switzerland for its magnificent panorama. As for the food, I love Kobe steak, Japanese and Korean cuisines, and of course Indonesian food.” Asked about his view on fashion, he does not seem to be as enthusiastic as talking about the food, but he appreciates fashion brands that deserve quality recognitions. “I especially like TUMI for luggage and bags, Lacoste for apparel and Tag Heuer for watch.”

TIFFANY & CO. The Art of the Wild

The Tiffany & Co. 2017 Blue Book Collection, the Art of the Wild, captures the unbridled beauty of nature. The collection is the vision of Tiffany’s design team, who travelled on an inspiration trip to a remote tropical island for an immersive journey through nature. The collection is composed of six themes – Whispers of the Rain Forest; Miracle Berry; The Falls; Leaves of the Sun; Feathered Cloak; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. With Whispers of the Rain Forest, Tiffany channels the restlessness of nature and lightness of movement into something wearable. A diamond collier with 200 baguette diamonds set in platinum features a stitch of round pavé diamonds that connect the collar to more than 350 handsculpted 18k yellow gold fronds, evoking the gentle rustle of leaves. sweet, the Miracle Berry designs are truly innovative in both colour and form. The 18k yellow gold fronds are thread throughout the collection speckled with an alternating mix of diamonds and coloured gemstones, appearing like water droplets on leaves. The Falls designs evoke the movement of waterfalls with diamonds appearing to be coming from within and pouring down. The lack of pattern and perfection alludes to water’s constant motion, illustrated with a dazzling necklace made with baguette, pear-shaped and round diamonds with strands in staggering lengths that create the scintillating effect of water cascading over the cliffs. Tiffany recreates the notion of rebirth and the energy to reach the sun in the Leaves of the Sun designs by focusing on the lightness of metal but with a great deal of depth in conceptualization. pair of palm leaf earrings that unfurl over the ear feature brilliant tsavorite and yellow sapphire melee with complementary South Sea black pearls selected for their verdant green hue to create a harmonious design. The striking colours and forms of exotic birds are brought to life in the aptly named Feathered Cloak designs. Gemstone-coated plumes mimic the flutter and movement of actual feather. A hinged cuff captures a moment of a bird resting in its wing, and gemstones of yellow sapphires, blue sapphires and spessartites set in 18k rose gold reflect the colourful iridescence of feathers. The Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow designs draws inspiration from the yesterday, today and tomorrow flower – a plant that changes colour over the course of three days and gently shifts from purple to lilac to white. EDWARD CHIU A Symbol of Love

Jade is an ancient stone that has historically been used to attract love in China, a symbol of successful love. Carved into a butterfly, in Chinese culture it is a powerful symbol used to draw love. This reminds us of the famous Chinese romance “The Butterfly Lovers”, a story about a couple who were in love too much they turned into butterflies flying elegantly and freely under the sun as romantic ending. A butterfly carved from jade holds a special romantic significance. Another ancient Chinese legend tells of a youth who wandered into the garden of a wealthy mandarin in pursuit of a multi-coloured butterfly, as known as inspiration of Edward Chiu’s multicolour jade butterfly combination. Instead of being punished for trespassing, his visit led to marriage with the mandarin’s daughter. The Edward Chiu brand will forever be associated with both contemporary jade jewellery and the man himself, whose love of design was a life-long passion. Edward Chiu Jewellery Art is acclaimed for jewellery of timeless elegance and exquisite museum quality pieces treasured by discerning connoisseurs of fine jewellery throughout the world. Among the many luminaries who follow the brand are renowned socialites, popular celebrities and distinguished members of royalty. The Edward Chiu brand originates with its eponymous founder, Edward Chiu, a

jeweller regarded for his ability to combine traditional materials and innovative design to create the unique look that characterises every Edward Chiu piece. Born into a family that had been dealing in jade for generations, he originally had no desire to pursue a career in the family business. It was only later, when he attended the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York, that he recognised the artistic potential inherent in fine jewellery. This collection incorporates a number of colours such as sapphire blue, white gold yellow jade, white gold green jade amongst other else. An 18K white gold white jade, blue sapphire, pink sapphire, peridot and diamonds brooch is one of the most colourful pieces in the butterfly collection. Bangles are designed resembling double loops, made of 18K white gold green jade, yellow jade, black jade, white jade and diamonds. Edward Chiu’s butterfly jewels symbolises boldness, freedom, success and sophistication of love. Two of the most glorious colour compositions in the collection are the combinations between 18K white gold yellow jade, white jade, black jade, ruby and diamonds brooches.

RICHARD MILLE Nautical World Commitment

When Richard Mille embarks on the development of a new creation, his procedure is uncompromising: at each key moment in the design process, when a choice has to be made, preference will inexorably be given to the solution that is technically the best, to the one that is most in tune with the concept being explored, independent of all other considerations, particularly those concerning financial ramifications. As Main Partner of Les Voiles, Richard Mille was present at the starting line, accompanying the 1,100 sailors who participated throughout the weeklong event. The brand also took this occasion to inaugurate its first boutique in the Caribbean. This year, the poster for Les Voiles was created by renowned street artist and Richard Mille partner Cyril Kongo. Painting on a vintage sail, Kongo approached it as he would any other type of surface, “Because the cloth is more porous than canvas, the colour masses appear a bit worn, more pastel. It’s interesting. So, in fact, you can reconstruct how the work took

shape, because the gestures and movements of the spray can over the sail take on a weathered appearance. It’s as though I had breathed life back into it, simply by inscribing ‘Les Voiles de St Barth’ across it using my graphic vocabulary.” Distributed among 70 crews competing in 9 different classes, the seafarers all set sail under middling conditions, with a wind oscillating between 12 and 15 knots. These weather conditions delighted tacticians, who had a long fight on their hands and technical itinerary imposed by the race route. After two days of exhausting races under weak or unstable wind conditions, the crews came ashore for a wellearned day of rest.

An opportunity to relax for some, while others pursued recreational activities, this day also witnessed the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first Richard Mille Boutique in St Barts. “We couldn’t imagine an island more suited to welcoming our brand. The boutique’s design takes its design cues from its territorial situation — on an island overlooking the shore — and its agreeable patio, where anyone can relax with a glass of Champagne as they discover our watches,” asserts John Simonian, CEO of Richard Mille Americas. Guests at the inauguration enjoyed an opportunity to view some of the most beautiful pieces in the collection, especially the RM 60-01 Flyback

Chronograph Regatta, one of which was conferred on the overall winners of the Maxi Yacht class. ‘Hand-crafted’ is the perfect term for describing the production process at Richard Mille. Every piece and part is unique; the work is executed by hand, five centimetres from the eye of the watchmaker. Although the parts for Richard Mille watches are made with the aid of the most modern and sophisticated machines that exist, with an accuracy of microns, this is only the first step of hundreds that are ultimately and completely reliant on the interaction of human hands, eyes and experience for the achievement of true perfection.

This automatic timepiece in grade 5 titanium supports high-seas navigation, thanks to a specially-designed rotating bezel bearing the four cardinal points and a 360° graduated disk with a 24-hour scale. A partner of Les Voiles from the very first, Richard Mille confirms the significance of the nautical world for the brand. “My commitment to a field like sailing is all the more fervent because the domain encourages full expression of the Richard Mille philosophy. It’s an opportunity to combine extreme performance, cutting-edge technology and a strong artistic component, while respecting the hallowed traditions of a discipline. Thousands of hours of R&D are needed to bring a superyacht into being; the same is true of our watches. To say nothing of the race against time!” The competition became difficult going forward, however, as crews struggled to make the most of ‘gentle breezes’. The conditions were

such that the Racing Committee had no choice but to cancel Saturday’s races. As a result, there was no change to the rankings. While this was a very unusual scenario for the Les Voiles, the event closed following what were nonetheless three intensive and beautiful days of regattas. Peter Harrison, CEO of Richard Mille EMEA, wore his sailor’s cap for the occasion. With his sailboat, Sorcha TP 52 sporting the livery of Richard Mille, he finished 1st in the CSA 0 class, after placing 3rd and 2nd in 2015 and 2016 respectively. Victory in the Maxi Yacht category went to Proteus, belonging to the American George Sakellaris, who also took the top spot in the general rankings, as he did in last year’s regatta. As of now, skippers and sailing enthusiasts can register for the next edition of Les Voiles, set to take place on 9 – 14 April 2018, as always with the unwavering support of Richard Mille.

The dials feature rectangular index hour markers and longer hands, as well as a Chromalight display with long-lasting luminescence that enhances legibility. Like all Rolex watches, the new Sky-Dweller carries the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015 to ensure singular performance on the wrist. Rolex also introduces the latest generation of Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller, a legend among professional divers’ watches created 50 years ago in 1967. The new Sea-Dweller features a larger, 43 mm case and the new calibre 3235, at the forefront of watchmaking technology and employed for the first time in a Rolex Professional category watch. To enhance the reading of the date, it is equipped, also for the first time, with a Cyclops lens on the crystal at 3 o’clock. The dial bears the name Sea-Dweller in red, a reference to the first model. Waterproof today to a depth of 1,220 metres, the Oyster Perpetual Sea-Dweller was originally designed for the pioneers of professional deep-sea diving.

HUBLOT

The Ferrari Design

Designed by Ferrari and crafted by Hublot is the principle that prevailed for the design and perfecting of the new Techframe Ferrari 70 Years Tourbillon Chronograph. To celebrate Ferrari’s 70th anniversary, the Italian marque and its partner Hublot are presenting a new original collection. Conceived with the same approach used for designing a car at the Ferrari Design Centre and integrating Hublot’s watchmaking expertise, the Techframe Ferrari 70 years Tourbillon Chronograph opens a new chapter in the partnership that unites Hublot and Ferrari. The collection is available in three versions: King Gold, PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone) Carbon, and Titanium, each of which is produced in 70 limited editions. This new line in Hublot’s collections is intended to offer a watch that is deeply rooted in Ferrari’s DNA: combining strength, performance and agility while being produced and perfected by the Hublot manufacture. Created and designed by Ferrari, under the leadership of Head of Design Flavio Manzoni, the starting point for the designers was the Hublot movement, the “engine” of the watch, around which they freely designed a high performance chassis. Like that of a Ferrari, its lattice structure is unique in the world of watchmaking and offers maximum strength for minimal weight.

“The styling of the Techframe Ferrari 70 Years Tourbillon Chronograph underlines the performances of the watch and no component is there by chance”, explains Flavio Manzoni. Thus, the black structure on the dial holds the chronograph counters and offers excellent legibility. The crown at 4 o’clock, raised by a black PVD Titanium insert decorated with the famous Prancing Horse, reduces the size of the watch to the greatest possible extent, and increases its aerodynamic look. Beyond its design, Techframe Ferrari 70 Years Tourbillon Chronograph is the epitome of fine watchmaking. Under the bonnet of this thoroughbred is a Tourbillon Chronograph driven by a movement that was designed and developed by Hublot: the new HUB6311 calibre with manual winding – 253 components, offers 5 days of power reserve. The single-button chronograph – one button for the start-stop- reset functions is handled by an original lever in Ferrari red anodised aluminium. The Ferrari logo is clearly visible at the 9 o’clock position whilst the Hublot logo is at 5 o’clock. The sapphire dial reveals the cutting edge mechanics that it shelters, and an external raised section holds the timer. A matt black block designed by Ferrari, affixed to the sapphire holds a race-inspired twin half-second counter at 3 o’clock, the minutes counter at 11 o’clock and the column wheel at 1 o’clock. EMPORIO ARMANI Youthful Exotica

Emporio Armani pulled a successful show in Paris eighteen years after the brand’s last attempt, which was shut down by authorities over safety concerns and moved to Milan fashion show. The Emporio Armani Spring/Summer 2017 show in Paris Fashion Week was opened by a slouchier version of a typical polished Armani suit. The looks are bold and fierce, with dark tones and occasional spring patterns, walked by a cast of youthful models with a couple rough braids and oversized sunglasses. Armani opened his show with a light seersucker pantsuit, as easy as pyjamas, with a loose bow sagging off the blouse, setting the summery tone and the laid-back allure. Light and languid fabrics prevailed: satin for track pants, dusty silk in necktie prints for pyjama suits and tissue-weight jersey and chiffon for long and loose sundresses, as Socha described for WWD. The designer can set narrow themes for his collections — as the clump of ladies in vivid green in the front row attested — but here was an exhilarating panorama, spanning from little-nothing chiffon shorts and plunging silk tops to elaborate, floor-length skirts made of pleated scallops of fabric, printed in colourful motifs.

Colours ran the gamut from dusty greens and sober blues to vivid reds and purples. Armani cast a vote of confidence in Paris with this Emporio show, staged in tandem with the overhaul of his Boulevard Saint-Germain Emporio flagship. It was a classy riposte to the nixed 1998 show, making the designer’s “unfulfilled dream come true,” as he put it. Some of the featured dresses include a dark shiny short jumpsuit with an oversized bow on the front, with a touch of colourful elephant print that brings

up luxurious and exotic vibe. Cotton Jersey dress with lace insert combines youthful energy with elegant aesthetics, which pops up effortlessly to daytime surroundings as well as to evening events. A blend of colours and patterns is playfully displayed in the Pure Silk Chiffon slip dress, a sleeveless, twirl-able dress to welcome the warm season in style. Jersey Tulip dress welcomes the season as well, with a mid-length arm sleeves.

AIGNER Kaleidoscopia

Looking through a kaleidoscope, one will be immediately fascinated by the variety of colours and diverse shapes that arrange themselves in constantly new ways – a new image is created, no matter the perspective. For Aigner Creative Director Christian Beck, this diversity and multifaceted nature represents various possibilities for individuality. In Aigner’s collection of Kaleidoscopia, the kaleidoscope pattern is the highlight and starting point for the collection. In selected models, the collection continues throughout red thread and sometimes reflects a little more or a little less succinctly. The graphic shapes and patterns are depicted in a wide variety of colours, as well as using metal appliqué and in implied forms of fastenings and decorative elements. The mood of the season takes its inspiration from two important eras: the late 70’s for colours and materials and the 90’s with a wink to Disco Flair and Studio 54 as far as silhouettes are concerned. The result is at

52

the same time surprisingly glam and cool yet incredibly chic and feminine. The colours – bold plum, fresh mauve, sober tan and gentle smoke grey – are broken up with coloured spots such as lime, lapis green, pink and cranberry red and give the collection a real feeling of summer. As far as materials are concerned: tulle, jeans, a lot of leathers (velour and nappa) are enriched by embroidery details, finished in ornamental border or frills. Dresses with burn out geometrical pattern in velvet devoré, long fluid dresses, sparkling disco pants and sequins on tops are only a few of the collection’s highlights. Accessories have their word to say this season too: very opulent jewellery, with Swarovski stones in matching colours that invade rings and big hanging and clips earrings. Three different forms of shoes enhance the variety of this collection with flat styles, mules with heels and classic pumps: all have a pointed front either with coloured velvet or cork.

As for every season, Aigner bags are true highlights to fall in love with. Some bags are specially designed for the show like the Tiny Tin bag. Small hanging bags formed like cans in many colour versions feature the kaleidoscope pattern in gold details. Open this can, as one would untwist a can. Another model is a very clean and classy clutch with central and extravagant frill details, which perfectly matches the outfits. KENZO

Reminiscing on Disco Days This season, the Kenzo woman spends her summer on Studio 54’s dance floor. Thanks to her ability to travel through time, she comes hang out in 1977 and gets herself an invitation to Kenzo Takada’s show held at the legendary club. She meets Grace Jones and the two have a chat between two songs; she befriends Pat Cleveland and Jerry Hall, who invite her to walk the runway with her. For this collection, Kenzo wants to celebrate the euphoria of an assembly of cultures. A space filled to the brim with individuals whose style speaks volumes and women who wear distinctiveness as an expression of freedom. Sometimes trends emerge at crossover points – when transitioning from one decade to the next, one moment of the day to the other. This collection unfolds in the late 70’s, as the 80’s are starting to rumble in the near distance. It takes place at night, right when the wild partying is about to begin. Times are changing and so is society, our heroine realises: the past decade’s hippy ideals are starting to fade, and are increasingly being replaced by a new

54

empowerment of women in the workplace. An invitation to work with the archives of renowned artist Antonio Lopez was the starting point for this collection. Antonio’s work documents an iconic time in Paris, of which Kenzo was an integral part. It felt relevant and exciting to pay homage to that, and re-interpret it for the Kenzo woman today. A woman like Donna Jordan or Pat Cleveland: strong, beautiful and unparalleled. Grid-like photo formations, collages and sketches of Polaroid once loaned but never returned. These images are transposed onto varying garments, offering a new lease of life to such beautiful imagery. Ponchos, parkas and military raincoats are reimagined as light,

voluminous dresses and blouses, in technical taffetas with metal snaps or drawstrings. Shiny fabrics – nylons, sequins, lamés are juxtaposed against cotton drills, raw denims or military cottons. Broken camouflage exists alongside classic motifs. Soft pinks are played against bright reds or cherry. Pink and blue lamés wax lyrical to disco anthems. Trousers and skirts are high waisted and with volume. Shoulders are softly rounded. Accessories are worn as jewellery. Clutches become cross bodies through adjustable straps. Glittered and chainmail bags come as shoppers, harnesses or bum bags. Chainmail bandanas accentuate the neckline. Oversized crystal and sequined earrings reflect the light. Stiletto sandals walk with coiled heels.

CANALI

Italian Signature Craftsmanship

Canali has been a paradigm of tailor-made Italian luxury and men’s elegance for more than 80 years. Since 1934, it has been promoting the values of Made in Italy excellence through its artisanal know-how, creating sartorial masterpieces of exceptional wardrobe and comfort. For a truly personalised experience, Canali offers Su Misura service, which combines the expertise of Made to Measure specialists and the artistry of the brand’s master tailors to create distinctive suits, jackets, trousers and shirts from the finest materials, all handcrafted in Italy.

64

A family-run company now in its third generation, Canali is a modern-day design and manufacturing group with its own production centres in Italy, with more than 1,800 employees worldwide. In addition to its 250 boutiques, a number that continues to grow, the brand can also be found in over 1,000 retail stores in more than 100 countries around the world. Canali Spring Summer 2017 signals the beginning of a new chapter in a story spanning 8 decades. A new chapter where material takes centre-stage, where

single threads meet and intertwine, weaving a narrative that grows, building upon itself. Motifs appear and recur as markers on a path, leading to an end that is in itself another beginning. Craftsmanship, exceptional materials and distinctive details – pillars of a storied heritage – emerge as the central themes this season, giving life to a collection of refined contemporary tailoring. This season, Canali pays homage to the iconic Kei jacket and its signature deconstructed softness presented in suits and pants characterised by a modern silhouette. Luxurious linen-silk blends in block colours sit alongside pieces crafted in this season’s signature malfilé fabric; where the texture and weave of the cloth is accentuated highlighting the principal theme of the

collection, echoed also in the design of the runway space. Iconic sportswear pieces such as blousons, parkas and bombers are cut in the softest deer, calf and lambskin while over-length trench coats in feather light technical fabrics add a sense of drama and fluidity. The mood of unstructured elegance permeates the accessories: neck scarves take the place of ties, pocket squares are doubled-up and small belt bags are worn at the waist. The palette oscillates between steel blue and burnt sienna, taking inspiration from another kind of warp and weft – the sky and the earth – two infinite planes that greet and fade into each other along a seamless horizon, together defining the ethos of an Italian summer.

VERSACE

Vision of Masculinity

The gentlemen of Versace are the men of the world, men of character and individual attitude. Lightweight, layered, fluid, functional: for the way men live their lives today. Tailoring is about functionality, whether it’s the unstructured jersey suit jacket that keeps its shape, or the tailored pants with elasticated waist and cuff. Versace’s Empire bag is worn across the body, carried as a large weekender, or transformed into a backpack. “I love change. I want to push Versace forwards, and capture the spirit of individuality and creativity in the men whom I love.” As Donatella Versace put into words her passion for Versace men. This passion of constant change is shown in this season with a new chief executive officer, Jonathan Akeroyd, joining the team for a new take on the Versace man this spring 2017 collection.

Versace, as Conti described for WWD, dressed them in roomy silhouettes, including long, billowing parkas done in parachute nylon; a black trench with sexy sheer sleeves; belted topcoats as languid as silk bathrobes, and silk blouson shirts. The designer, who took her bow dressed in a deep purple frothy blouse – homage to her late pal Prince — also played with layering and proportion. At the finale, a selection of female and male models walked out in frilled, sparkly outfits paying tribute to Prince – a personal touch from Donatella herself that further reinforced the collection’s relevance to today’s society. She paired long shirts or hoodies with leggings and cycle shorts while silk sweaters were tied loosely around waists and worn with jackets and tops. Structure came

in the form of tailored leather jackets, while bombers were slashed at the back into abstract diamond shapes and dotted with small, signature Versace studs. This season features earthy tones, and a look represents the theme with an all beige and gold wardrobe, from gold sandals to long beige parachute outer and matching trousers. A backpack with Versace’s iconic logo in front, in mixed materials of leather and fabric. Long, messy looking outerwears heavily enhance the looks, with a fabric waist belt giving them a touch of bathrobe vibe. Outerwears are the highlight of this season, shown in various materials and colours including organza, which differ one texture to another thus making each of them unique.

Berluti has crafted myriad collections of shoes, in which every pair has its own story since 1895. For many years, Berluti’s customers have been looking for a truly exceptional experience, with designs created to rise to every occasion with flair. Fast-track sneakers, drawing its design credentials from running shoes and the shoemaking tradition, are available in pure white Vitello Unico leather. Graduated sunset blue injects a fresh touch to the shoemaker’s emblematic Playtime sneaker, in addition to the fact that all the fabrics used in this collection as light and even as weightless as possible technical possibilities. For example, the jacket and the shirt have the same weight, both of which are very light, and with a mixture of light fabrics and soft texture .The lining has been removed from all the jackets. For the silk and woolen garments, they were printed with horizontal lines. The dyeing aerosol has been used to spray additional lines before applying the enzyme to dilute the dye and give a final matte touch. LA PRAIRIE

Illuminating Pearl Infusion

Recapture the luminosity of younger-looking, healthier skin with White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion. The scientists at La Prairie have developed a new proprietary breakthrough in the complex science of brightening skin, namely White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion, with its exclusive Illuminating formulation. Targeting the three chromatic light-barriers to a luminous complexion, White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion brightens and lifts skin – with visible results in just four weeks. At the heart of White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion is a cutting-edge scientific advancement. Through their research, La

78

Prairie scientists have discovered that skin’s uneven tone and loss of luminosity are due not only to melanin-induced spots but also to redness and dullness. La Prairie therefore developed a formula – the first of its kind – that works to fight not one but all three types of skin chromatic disorders. An exquisite pearly infusion encapsulates a concentrated formula containing golden caviar extract and a stable, oil soluble form of vitamin C. Combined with innovative Diglucosyl Gallic Acid (DGA), the product targets three major types of skin chromatic disorders. Everyday stress can lead to permanently irritated skin

expressing signs of inflammation and redness. Stress factors include lifestyle-induced cortisol, UV light, pollutants and chemicals that damage the skin’s natural protective barrier. The DGA in White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion’s new Illuminating Complex is a potent anti-irritant that inhibits the formation of prostaglandin E2, a mediator of skin irritation that contributes to skin redness. The shell of the caviar pearls in White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion shield the skin from harmful particles that often found in atmospheric and domestic pollution within urban areas. The pearls’ matrix itself consists of different polysaccharides. One of these polysaccharides offers a strong anti-pollution action by forming a protective “second skin”. Its unique structure allows active ingredients to penetrate the skin while shielding it from particles and heavy metals that can damage cells and contribute to a dull appearance. White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion lightens and firms, returning skin to its youthful, clear self. Skin tone is brightened, dark spots fade and the development of future spots is impeded before it begins. Firmness and elasticity are restored. Encapsulated in iridescent white caviar pearls that remain intact until the very last drop, White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion is as beautiful as it is effective. For the first time, the three key barriers to a bright, glowing even complexion are targeted in one breakthrough formula, revealing luminous, healthy skin.

PORSCHE DESIGN A Sporty Interplay

The world of Porsche Design is a world where new quality materials, technologies, and finest functional elegance blend into a truly exclusive and iconic contemporary design. It challenges traditions with a clear purpose, which is to enhance the performance, comfort and health of today’s sophisticated professionals and tomorrow’s successful leaders - during business, leisure, sports and at home. UK-based SA Designer Parfums Limited obtained the license to market Porsche Design Fragrances in April 2014. Since the first fragrance “The Essence“, followed by “Porsche Design Sport“, all the way through to the strikingly fresh “Titan“, the luxury lifestyle brand has been creating scents for the discerning man of today. With the launch of the new “Palladium“ fragrance, Porsche Design is focussing on an exciting fresh, aromatic spicy and unmistakable powerful scent – precious, distinctive and futuristic. A dynamic symbiosis of the unmistakable Porsche Design racing DNA combined with the hi-tech sheen of Palladium metallic colour. The fragrance will be available in Indonesia from May 2017. The Australian racing driver Mark Webber is the new face of the Porsche Design Fragrances campaign. After ending his 12-year Formula One career at the end of 2013, Webber returned to endurance racing in the LMP1 class.

80

Webber embodies sportiness, masculinity and style – attributes that also best describe the Porsche Design products. It is a composition of fresh sporty citrus aromas with aromatic spicy elements and a unique component ensuring that it is nothing less than electrifying: Polygonum. As a non-synthetic aldehyde, it has the capacity to combine natural aromatic substances with the hi-tech fragrance of the molecule. Forming the prelude is crystal clear fruity tangerine, powerful aromatic cardamom and radiant floral Polygonum, culminating in a long lingering spiciness leading into the heart of the fragrance. It now strikes an aromatic crescendo of sweet-smelling lavender, sunny geranium and urbane ozone notes. Dynamic and at the cutting edge – the base notes of bitter cedar wood, alluring patchouli and Amber Xtreme bring the creation to a dynamic close. Packaged in a purist hi-tech flacon, designed by the legendary Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See from Austria, melding into its shape and functionality, lifestyle par excellence. With its sporty elegance, functionality and design clarity, it reflects the unique Porsche Design DNA. Manufactured from a precious Zamac metal alloy, which protects the fragrance from the effects of light, the Porsche Design Palladium flacon is the ideal accessory for men. Precious and provocative, the flacon is resplendent in its palladium sheen.

RICHARD MILLE Vivid and Sporty Since 2010, Richard Mille and Rafael Nadal have developed remarkable watches through a unique collaboration in the history of watchmaking. The latest of the collaboration resulted in another successful model limited to 50 pieces – in terms of shock resistance, the tourbillon movement expands the horizons of technical performance. The timepiece reconciles innovations at the level of materials with a testament to horological architecture. Clay courts are known for amplified effect, whilst the striking red and yellow hues case pays homage to Rafa’s native Spain. The finishing of the RM 27-03 calibre presents hand-polished tapered anglage and graceful satin surfaces that set off the sparkle of finely microblasted elements.

ROGER DUBUIS The Quest of Excellence Like the electric blue lava bursting from certain volcanoes, the Excalibur Essential 36 Automatic appears with an arresting aesthetic black DLC-treated titanium case topped by a bezel set with 48 blue sapphires. Simultaneously evoking fire and ice, the sparkling gems reflect and accentuate the cool gleam of the blue PVD-coated dial with sun-brushed finish. The versatile 36 mm diameter makes it suitable for both masculine and feminine wrists of the lucky few whom will grab one of the 28 pieces of the limited edition. Setting an elegant finishing touch, a matching blue alligator leather strap is fitted with DLC-treated titanium folding buckle.

BELL & ROSS Wheel to Wrist In February 2016, Bell & Ross made its first foray into the racetracks by joining the highly exclusive world of Formula 1 and becoming the official watch partner of the Renault Sport Formula One Team. In 2017, Bell & Ross is strengthening its partnership by releasing a series of three new high-performance limited edition watches inspired by the steering wheel of the new Renault RS 17 F1 car: BR 03-94 RS17, BR X1 RS17 Skeleton Chronograph and BR X1 RS17 Tourbillon Chronograph. The principle evokes that of an F1 steering wheel, on which each piece of information is paired with a different colour.

Intelligent Performance

Monegasque yacht builder Dynamiq has a joint force with Studio F.A. Porsche to create an exclusive series of all-aluminium superyachts imbued with Porsche DNA. The world famous industrial and transport design studio, led by Managing Director Roland Heiler (a Member of the Board at Porsche Design Group), has created both the exterior and interior styling of the entire range. The first 35-metre Dynamiq GTT 115 Hybrid is already under construction in Viareggio, Italy, while 100- and 85-foot models are in development and will be presented later this year. The sporty exterior design by Studio F.A. Porsche matches the yacht’s noteworthy performance, even the name brings the thrill: GTT stands for Grand Turismo Transatlantic.

Two world leaders in hydrodynamics, both from the Netherlands, were commissioned to create efficient hulls for the new series. Vripack developed the hull lines of the GTT 115, while Van Oossanen is responsible for the naval architecture of the GTT 100 and GTT 85 models. The GTT 115, the first in the series, features a round bilge aluminium hull and a specially engineered stabilisation system from Humphree with four electric fins and interceptors. Powered by twin 1213kW MAN engines paired with the latest Fortjes 5000 pods, the versatile superyacht can exceed a maximum speed of 21 knots and is capable of crossing the Atlantic with a range of 3,400nm. With a shallow draft of just 1.45 metres, the yacht is ideal for the Mediterranean, Caribbean or Southeast Asia. Technical features include two technical compartments or engine rooms, with twin 45kW Fischer Panda variable-speed generators located in the bow. This

smart layout ensures a silent ambience at night and avoids smoke and fumes at anchor while the owner and guests are swimming or sunbathing on the aft platform. Available in the signature Porsche Carrara white, Rhodium Silver, Chalk or custom Monte-Carlo Blue exterior colours, the GTT 115 boasts refined lines with signature Porsche elements. The deck cushions feature fabric centres with a classic Pepita houndstooth pattern, similar to the latest 991 R edition. “Our target clients are already accustomed to the highest standards, but are ready to leave behind the hassle and huge costs of owning large vessels so they can enjoy the fun side of yacht ownership. The Dynamiq GTT 115 is the perfect realisation of utmost comfort and a sporty lifestyle in a practical and relatively compact package.” A limited edition of just seven GTT 115 yachts will be manufactured, making the model a truly unique collector’s edition.

LAND ROVER

Where Technology Meets Comfort Land Rover has been serving over 1.2 million people across the world for 27 years since its first establishment in May 1990. Recently, in May 2017, the Jaguar Land Rover Authorized Distributor Indonesia PT Wahana Auto Ekamarga (WAE) launched the All New Discovery. This latest variant of family Discovery is the fifth generation to have been officially introduced thus far in global market since last September.

86

Roland Staehler, PT WAE’s Chief Operating Officer, commented, “All New Discovery – The World’s Most Capable and Versatile Luxury SUV – is the best SUV offering revolutionary design and technical engineering. Not only that, the SUV with three-row, seven seats capacity can fulfil the needs of customers in Indonesia, and also offer the ultimate performance under various circumstances thanks to its high flexibility.”

All innovation aside, the design maintains some of Land Rover SUV’s preferred characteristics, such as level roof, which has been a key feature since the last 4 generations. The roof design has been the answer of cabin practicality problem, significantly seen on the third row of the Discovery – the stadium-like seating design resulting in bigger headroom. The All New Discovery is measured at 4.970 m in length, highly capable of bringing seven adults in comfort. While most SUVs offer 5+2-seating chart, the All New Discovery is thoroughly designed for spacious seating of seven adults, while still having the flexibility of cabin area. All three rows feature ISOFIX hook, thus children car seat could be put in any row of their choosing. Incorporating advanced technology, the All New Discovery

introduces the smartest car folding technology feature, thus allowing users to set seat configurations on second and third row through a touch button in the back, or through touch screen control panel in the front area. Even more, the brand developed InControl Touch Pro, a smart phone application for users to adjust their seat through. Its ability and flexibility through many grounds are unquestionable. With 283mm ground clearance, the All New Discovery could effortlessly pass through 900mm water puddle. Land Rover Terrain Response 2 features allow the model to go through various road conditions. For example, the All Terrain Progress Control (ATPC) feature allows the vehicle to be automatically programmed in adjusting the speed to different ground conditions. This advanced technology helps the driver focus more on the wheel and less on gas and brake.

PT Eurokars Artha Utama (Eurokars), the official importer and distributor of Porsche in Indonesia launched the new Panamera and 718 Cayman on February 27, 2017 at The Pallas, witnessed by the media, VIPs and Porsche enthusiasts. Porsche Indonesia presented its new four doors sports saloon, the new Panamera. Born from courage, it reconciles two contrasting characteristics more than ever before: the performance of genuine sports car and the comfort of a luxury saloon. Its engines and transmissions have been redesigned, its chassis perfected, and its display and control concept reinterpreted for the future, with key features such as Porsche Advanced Cockpit an active roll compensation and optional features as rear axle steering and three-chamber air suspension. It is a sports car and luxury saloon in one – Gran Turismo rethought and realigned. The second generation Panamera is the performance icon of the luxury class. Visually, the unique concept of the Gran Turismo is reflected in a new expressive design: unmistakably a Panamera, unmistakably a sports car – with long, dynamic proportions, pronounced shoulders, athletic flanks and a very dynamic roof line that is 20 mm lower at the rear. This “flyline” that is typical of Porsche cars forges a stylistic link to the 911 design icon. To make the new Panamera even more efficient, all of the second-generation engines have been redesigned. The engines were made more powerful while improving their fuel economy and reducing emissions. One new twin-turbo direct injection engine is being introduced at the local market launch: the Panamera 4S. The model is equipped with a permanent, fully variable all-wheel drive system (Porsche Traction Management / PTM) and a new eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK). The chassis combines the ride comfort of a luxury saloon and the performance of a genuine sports car, made possible by a perfectly tuned suspension concept, innovative mechatronic systems such as an adaptive air suspension with new three-chamber technology and electronic damper control (Porsche Active Suspension Management PASM), the further developed Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) system including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) and a new electromechanical steering system. The Panamera is also equipped with next generation assistance systems. The key new systems include Night Vision Assist, which utilizes a thermal imaging camera to detect people and larger animals while displays a color highlighted warning indicator in the cockpit. At the same event, Porsche Indonesia also presented the new mid-engine 718 Cayman, balances being a highest performance sports car while being the most efficient at the same time, with all-new four-cylinder flat engines. Assisted by a turbocharger with Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG), a technology hitherto used exclusively in the 911 Turbo, the 718 Cayman S delivers 350 hp. The 718 Cayman also turbocharged, delivers an impressive 300 hp. Both models with NEDC fuel consumption of 6.9 to 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers. The latest generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is available as standard feature; Apple Car Play and the optional High-End Burmester Surround Sound System. Porsche Centre Jakarta PT. FENDI’S MEN EYEWEAR Wandering with Hopper Penn To celebrate the launch of its first Men’s Eyewear Collection, Fendi presents the new Spring/Summer 2017 Collection with a new exciting video starring Hopper Penn, renowned actor and son of Sean Pen and Robin Wright. Featuring Hopper’s amazing journey in Milan, from his arrival in Italy to his attendance at the Fendi Men’s Fashion Show, the video tells of an amazing day in the city, discovered through the lenses of the new Fendi Men’s sunglasses. The city welcomes Hopper with its urban and international vibes in the most elegant and influential palaces for fashion and design.

FERRARI MUSEUM Maranello Exhibition The Ferrari Museums enjoyed a record year in 2016 with more than 478,000 visitors, of whom 344,000 came to Maranello. So also in order to cope with a growing public, the Museum’s spaces have been extended by more than 600 square metres to a total of 4,100 square metres. In addition, a multifunctional space of about 300 square metres has been built, which can host up to 250 people for events, conventions and educational activities. Two new exhibitions, “Under the Skin” and Infinite Red”, celebrate Ferrari on its 70th anniversary. The former recalls the founder and the evolution of the company’s innovation and style, while the latter covers the company’s history through its models.

MASERATI Italian Excellence Massimo Bottura, the renowned three-Michelin-starred chef and Maserati brand ambassador, joined the first Press Day of the International Motor Show at this year’s Geneva Autoshow. Fast cars and slow food were at the heart of the experience, with Bottura’s special rice dish inspired by and named after the SUV Levante. The dish brings unexpected aromatic ingredients in the form of citrus infused rice served on top of fresh water fish marinated in fennel and orange. Maserati and Bottura have been partners since 2015, and, in November, the Modena-based chef received his new Levante, the first SUV in more than 100 years of the brand’s existence.

Quartzite is an extremely strong and long-lasting material with a variety of subtle colours. While travertine is warmly elegant in a range of hues from white to beige and black, a favoured choice for both interior and exterior. Fagetti Group, in collaboration with Indonesia’s famous interior

designers, bring the forest of stone ambience to the “Stone Forest” exhibition, held on 17-21 May 2017 in ICE BSD City Hall 8-9. “Stone Forest” is combining two synergised concepts of stone and forest. The former implies solidity that could actually be as soft, even liquid as water.

Fagetti takes the opportunity to display its inventions, ideas, and latest fabrication for stones. “Stone Forest” unfolds new materials and solution for each stone. Together with Alex Bayusaputro, Hadi Komara, and Amalya Hasibuan, the exhibition features their phenomenal works with stone and forest as their main inspiration. Fagetti Group and Bika also feature their special collaboration to complement the concept. Alex Bayusaputro, principal architect from The Genius Loci, displays his works that tells the beauty of stone and their special characteristics. Granite, marble, onyx, among many others, does not look as solid with his

touch. “The concept of combining stone with forest to represent that stone is not as hard as it seems. It can be soft like fabric and liquid like water. The forest symbolises the softer side of the stone.” Alex commented on his work. “As the marble trendsetter in Indonesia, this exhibition is a media to communicate with our clients, and people in general, to comply the message that Ferdinand Gumanti and Fagetti will keep giving innovations in our business.” Said Helen Gumanti, the Executive Director of Fagetti Group on the night of Fagetti gala night, 18 May 2017.

HOSHINOYA BALI

Luxurious Living amongst Authentic Nature The leading Japanese hotel management company, Hoshino Resorts is opening its first Hoshinoya brand hotel abroad in Bali, Indonesia. Hoshinoya Bali is enveloped by the lush green hills of Ubud, known as the centre for Balinese traditional crafts and dance, surrounded by an environment of untouched rich nature. Hoshinoya Bali overlooks the Pakerisan river, with sacred water canals running through the property, part of the island’s age-old water temple network recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Landscape. The surrounding dense rainforest and terraced rice paddies as well as the

102

extended mountain range are among one of Bali’s most famous landscapes. The beautiful land provides the ultimate fresh air for the ideal vacation, while the landscape dotted with Bali Hindu temples and shrines offers a spiritual atmosphere to the visitor. The Subak irrigation system, which was the first to be nominated in Bali as a UNESCO World Heritage site, has supported the rice terraced field and Ubud’s water network system for over 1,000 years. Hoshinoya Bali provides the perfect relaxation experience, allowing guests to feel in true harmony among the nature, people and Gods of Bali.

Hoshinoya Bali offers an exclusive and comfortable alternative to hotels. The villas provide privacy within luxury residences for guests. Three alternatives of luxury villas offered are Villa Bulan, Villa Soka and Villa Jalak – all equipped with semi-private pool area allowing guests to descend from the terrace of their villa. The villas range from 187sqm to 208sqm, each enveloped in the lush green and mystical river valley. This special location takes full advantage of the surrounding nature and preserves Bali’s true form of natural culture. The architecture of the villas represents Bali’s traditional beauty and ancient wisdom. In the town of Ubud, carving techniques have traditionally

been inherited and conveyed as the traditional culture, and as a result it continually influences Ubud’s arts and crafts style. Visible on the inside of the villa are many beautiful walls and furniture covered with carvings. By including natural materials and ornaments into the interior design, an impressive illumination effect appears. Throughout the stay, guests’ comfort is ensured by the harmony of nature complemented by Bali’s characteristic arts. Each villa features a gazebo with a roof made of alang-alang – a grass family that mostly found in Indonesia. The thick shade provided by these gazebos — in addition to the soothing breeze that comes in from the Pakerisan — allows guests to cool off at any time of the day.

TOP GOLF

World Class Collection

Top Golf has been providing luxurious golfer essentials made of only premium quality materials the world has to offer. Top Golf stores are widely spread throughout the country, at eight major cities in Indonesia including Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Reflecting a brilliant blend of golf’s inspiring past with its innovative present, the elegantly detailed driver glows with a 24k gold-plated 510 clubhead and a 24k gold-plated Fujikura shaft, crafted in Japan. In celebrating Grand Golf’s growing international reputation for premium, precision-made drivers, the brand introduces the all-new Chairman’s Choice 24k Gold Driver – the limited edition Honors 510. Meticulously designed and handcrafted by Grand Golf’s President and Co-Founder, Lane Peterson, the Chairman’s choice of 24k Gold Driver lets one’s best

106

performance and presence come shining through. Golfers searching for a driver that delivers a powerful, more stable long flight trajectory with ultimate control, will find all they seek in the new Grand Chairman’s Choice Honors 510. The Chairman’s Choice is specifically engineered to generate the kind of powerful, long-trajectory drives that promote pinpoint accuracy and longer ball flights onto the fairway. Its distinctive 6-gram star weight at the rear of the sole helps focus the clubhead’s centre of gravity to provide better overall control and facilitate a consistent, powerful flight trajectory. The Honors 510 also features two dampening medallions to absorb impact vibrations. Grand Golf has patented Seamless Technology works by allowing greater clubface deflection at the moment of impact. Greater deflection

significantly increases the trampoline effect and launch angle to produce drivers that allow the ball to carry longer, even on offcentre hits. While Grand Golf’s exclusive Ray-Face Technology utilizes advanced clubface geometry to generate greater power and accuracy. By dividing the clubface into a six rays of section modulus, then optimising the specific thickness of each tapered ray section, Grand Golf has created a design that complements its Seamless Technology for a greater spring effect. Another featured driver available in Top Golf is the new TAG PA510 by Grand Tag – a 510cc oversized, non-conforming driver that features a 69-degree lie angle and an ultra-thin clubface. TAG PA510 driver enables golfers to easily hit accurate, long-carrying drives or long carrying drives with a powerful draw. It features a rear heal-weighted side panel shape that repositions the centre of gravity (Cg) deep heal-side and lower within the clubhead. The innovative feature makes it a lot easier to impact the ball squarely and also to produce power draw flight drives.

Francisca Prandayani Leading Lifestyle Conversing with Francisca Prandayani, the stunning General Manager Sales and Marketing of Aston Martin Jakarta, everyone surely will catch the confident and elegant atmosphere she brings into the room. Joining the high-end sports cars team in May 2015, just a month after its launching, Francisca or affectionately known as Cisca as she’s affectionately known describes her job as “assisting Aston Martin Jakarta to obtain the trust from our target market.” She notices that competing in high-end market, the challenge of the business isn’t winning the market share. It’s all about gaining trust and confidence from the Indonesian market, she says. “We noted that before Aston Martin Jakarta was established as the Authorized General Distributor, there are already 30 owners of Aston Martins that bought the car from Pararel Importer. Thus that shows that this brand has already gained a special place in the heart of Indonesia’s automotive lovers.” Yet, that doesn’t mean business is always smooth. The luxurious automotive brand opened its fantastic showroom at Jl. HOS Cokroaminoto No. 70, Menteng, Jakarta in May 2015 and has ever since been strategically taking careful steps to expand the business. “We have already had a showroom in Menteng, a comprehensive service centre in Pondok Indah and a customer-based program such as “Trade in Guarantee”, and many more,” she says. As a woman leader in automobile industry, Cisca is aware of the challenge. Lucky for her, at Aston Martin, with its international root and standard, gender is considered a nonissue. She believes in Aston Martin and its sustainable future in Indonesia. “When you saw an Aston Martin, you will immediately notice that quality is of the upmost importance. All of our cars are handcrafted and handmade by craftspeople. Since the new era of Aston Martin, we have a lot of cutting-edge technologies to go with our cars,” she explains. As the brand of hand-built cars, “you will find only few robots in the entire factory. Most parts of the cars contain a piece of someone’s soul,” she says referring to the brand’s tagline “Power, Beauty and Soul”. Cisca loves observing people and that aptitude has earned her valuable leadership lessons. She has learned from her former bosses from her previous companies the

110

dos and don’ts in leadership. She came up with the concept of patience and flexibility as the key that suits her leadership. “Leaders aren’t born, they are made, and it is important to lead by example. What it takes to develop great leaders is their own willingness to develop. This includes making the most of their opportunities to grow through challenging job assignments, and support through mentoring and coaching from their senior leaders,” she explains. “Patience is one important thing in leadership, as it brings you through tough time,” she adds. “Based on my hands-on experience, patience inspires your team to have a positive attitude during difficult times.” Cisca is the believer that great teamwork is gained by positioning “We”, “Our” and “Us” forward. So, she leads by helping her team understand the concept of selling the Aston Martin lifestyle to its prominent clients, confident people with nothing to prove. Working in high-end industry, it’s only a nature that above average benchmark is set as goals. So, the pacesetting manager says that her primary objective is to accomplish tasks to a high standard of excellence. The Javanese Cisca eases up a little bit as we switch the conversation to her hobby and family. “Since we were young, my brother and I have been taught to be financially independent,” she recalls. She thanks her mother who inspired her to be a strong woman. Cisca also admires Indonesia’s fashion scene. Despite listing Prada, Aspinal of London, and Burberry as her favourite international brands; she remarks that there are genius local pieces from Indonesian designers such as Denny Wirawan, Raden Sirait, Angela Prisa and Arturro Ego, as well as few cult fashion brands from the country’s young designers. Appreciating the beauty of life, she says that travel and photography are what she treasures the most at her spare time. “England, Scotland and Wales are my favourites. They all are parts of Great Britain. I travel to Britain every year, yet I want to explore more places there, including the country’s off-the-beaten-track destinations,” she says with a smile, adding “I always pair travel with photography for unforgettable memories.” When she’s not exploring the world and taking snaps, her spare time includes staying home and playing with her dogs. “I especially love my five-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Win-Win.”

Eddy Hui

Guarding the Family Treasure Eponymous founder of Hong Kong based Edward Chiu Jewellery Art started as a jeweller with expertise of combining traditional materials and innovative designs. His name eventually became the brand of his business. When he passed away five years ago, his family took over the business and continues the legacy. Artistic Director Eddy Hui, Edward’s nephew, passionately took us back in time, telling stories about the business which has been passed on for generations. “I’m more like a Creative Director. I give my design idea to my creative team, and they draw the design and I give remarks. Most of the design ideas come from me. I’ve been with the brand for more than 15 years,” says Eddy, who is actually the third generation in his family business. His grandfather started his jade business on Canton Road in Hong Kong. It was just another jade business without any concern or need of branding, Eddy explains further. “My grandfather designed, crafted and sold the precious stones, and then taught his skills to his sons and daughters. Soon later, his entire family was involved in the business. My uncle, Edward went to New York to study jewellery design and then established his eponymous brand.” Edward Chiu is one of the pioneers in jade jewellery business in Hong Kong and arguably in the world. The brand has positioned itself at the peak of the market. Jade is a special stone in the Chinese culture. It’s thought to be the material form that most completely embodies both the Ying and Yang qualities of Heaven and Earth. Edward Chiu’s jade creations are inspired by his hometown, Hong Kong, a blend of East and West, as a result of refined old-world craftsmanship and contemporary sophistication. However, despite being popular among socialites, celebrities and distinguished members of royalty, the brand is deemed to stay humble and traditional. Eddy mentioned that it’s necessary to keep the business traditional because jade jewellery is naturally traditional. “Internationally everyone wants to work with us. People, especially women, want to wear Edward Chiu for the precious craftsmanship. So our status is very high. But we only have four workshops and one store because we want to maintain the uniqueness of our one-of-a-kind pieces. All of our jewelleries are handmade, so it takes a

long time to make one.” Eddy explains. “Our company is small. We are not a big company. Yet, in terms of jewellery design, we are an important company.” The contemporary jade jewellery brand is turning 25 next year, a milestone to celebrate. With that, Eddy plans a new business expansion to other countries including Indonesia. He is told that people in Indonesia, Jakarta in particular, are big on appreciating beautiful jewellery and familiar with the Edward Chiu brand. So he is excited to come and explore the opportunity, as well as what the local culture has to offer. “I’m a newbie in Jakarta, but we plan to do business in Jakarta. I also love the culture of Indonesia. I like to wear Batik, I love spicy food, so I really like Indonesian food. I hope later I can create a series of Indonesian jewellery in Edward Chiu’s style.” As a start, he was hosting a joint exhibition last month in Jakarta with Sidik W Martowidjojo, a Yogyakartabased artist well known for his “east meets west” painting style. While showing Registry Indonesia the Edward Chiu’s pieces displayed in the exhibition, Eddy points at a collection called Autonomy. “I’m inspired by the meaning of the word autonomy, namely ‘chosen by him or herself’. In other words, the collection features various pieces where you can freely wear them in different functions.” Eddy is determined to bring Edward Chiu brand to the next level. Edward Chiu is the founder and he invented the brand. He is the brand. So, when he passed away, new approaches are taken to ensure that everything lives on. Eddy seeks to promote the brand beyond jewellery world. “After Edward passed away I do many things on branding. So I hold a lot of exhibitions to promote the brand. And now I start a new “try” to cooperate with different artists; we want to tell everybody that jewellery can be art.” He says he won’t stop on paintings. “Jewellery is different business. Different country has different policy about imported jewellery. In some countries, it is very difficult to hold jewellery show. I plan to hold more art shows in the near future. To cooperate with all kinds of different artists, including fashion, painting, everything. Not only in Hong Kong but all over the world, and of course I look forward to holding more exhibitions in Indonesia.”

Sidik W Martowidjojo Painting and Philosophy Meeting this unique, yet well-known, personality at an exhibition is surely unforgettable. Sidik W Martowidjojo is an award-winning painter, capturing recognitions from different institutions around the world including Louvre International Art and National Art Museum of China. But one would only catch humble tone on his voice as he recollected his story. An avid-reader, this Yogyakarta-based painter infuses a lot of philosophical thoughts onto his painting. His style is self-invented. “I have my own style, a combination of East and West,” he explains. “I want to show that East and West have their own characteristics. If combined, the result can be something magnificent.” The Western style puts its emphasis on the aesthetic while the Eastern style fills in its soul. For example, the Western style would focus on the shape, the sunlight and the colours. On the other hand, Eastern style will place the tranquillity and the spirit of a shape into the centre of attention. “My paintings are where I express the emotions of both east and west. What’s lacking from both Eastern and Western styles are combined into one painting, resulting in one peculiar painting. That’s my painting.” Historically, he says, the east and west combination isn’t far from the fact that during the New Order under the late President Soeharto, eastern-influence painting had had a hard time to fit in. Sidik recalled the days when he decided to be a merchant instead of an artist due to this limitation. Many of the painters then turn their approach to the West. “That was why Indonesian painting lost its characteristics. Many of them are copying the western style. Starting from Raden Saleh’s era up until now, most of the paintings are leaning towards the Western characteristics.” Based on this fact, Sidik stepped into the world of his own, creating paintings that merge into the best of both worlds. This philosopher has crafted over 700 watercolour paintings. His favourites are the ones that can bring peace to humanity through silence. “You know silence can incite fighting spirit because life is about overcoming challenges,” he explains. Sidik has been brought up with Chinese influences on his paintings. He expresses different socio-cultural issues in Indonesia through the strokes and colours. Sidik recently held a joint exhibition with Hong Kong jewellery brand Edward Chiu in an upscale hotel in Jakarta. Many of his paintings displayed at this exclusive exhibition features east meets west designs and have the silence and

114

fighting spirit elements. His philosophical background and his book collection, which include names like Lautze, have shaped his inspiration on canvas. “My paintings have tranquillity of heaven elements, how we surrender ourselves to the will of God. How we are thankful with what we have, and how we don’t just give up and let Gid do everything for us. God gives freedom to human being, a freedom to fight for the nature, and not to destroy it.” Nevertheless, as he speaks from an artist and a humanist point of view, “My paintings talk about returning to God, thanking God for the beautiful nature he has created. Nature is not to be destroyed nor for war or chaos, but for submission and peace,” he explains, adding that Indonesia’s beautiful nature and culture is also a gift from God. “We learn about God and its meaning from our culture. How we praise and how we thank God are parts of Indonesian culture. Indonesia has a deep root when it comes to culture. If we keep on digging then we’ll find that culture is the base of knowledge. Barbaric people know no culture. Religion will be useless if the person is barbaric.” Peace and tranquillity are two significant elements on his paintings, so coming from Yogyakarta, how does Sidik view Jakarta as the capital city? “Everything is tangled. Everyone feels they are right, while the only one truth is God. Yogyakarta is a lot more quiet place,” he comments. Sidik has been a Yogyakarta resident for the past 27 years. At the end of 2016, a museum at Ndalem Kraton Ngayogyakata area started showcasing his works. In 2014, Sidik became the first Indonesian painter to exhibit his masterpieces at Carrousel du Louvre, Paris; and the following year, he continued on touring around the world with his paintings. Earlier this year, his paintings made it to the National Museum as a part of Art Exhibition Road Shows supported by Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). Sidik sees travelling as part of how he appreciates life. “I don’t have any particular favourite travel destination. God has created many places in all corners of the world that boast beautiful sceneries; and each place has its own beauty to offer, including culture and food.” Speaking of food, he ends the conversation saying, “ I can enjoy different types of cuisines whenever I travel, but nothing can beat the various delicious dishes of Indonesian food.”

LABUAN BAJO LAND An Opportunity to Invest

Labuan Bajo Land is currently a growing tourism site in Indonesia, with all the beauty this destination has to offer. Located at Batu Gosok Beach in Labuan Bajo, Flores, with high tourism demand and easy access, the land spans fifteen hectares, with coastline of 450m up cliff and 250m direct access to the beach. It has earned legal permit by the local governor as a commercial tourism area. Position-wise, the area is ideal for a hotel or resort development, owing to beach access, road access and terraced hills for views of sunset and sunrise. The land is located about five kilometres away from Komodo Labuan Bajo International Airport, which was officially opened in December 2015. As the location is growing, the airport is set to be one of the busiest in the country, with more new facilities under development to cater and meet the needs

for larger domestic and international flights. It is also the gateway airport for travellers visiting the renowned Komodo Park. Another access is through Labuan Bajo Jetty, the busiest transportation port connecting travellers to its surrounding islands. It takes ten to fifteen minutes to Tanjung Batu Gosok by boat, and approximately thirty minutes to Komodo Park. Even more, the location is easily accessible to and from Tanjung Batu Gosok (Batu Gosok Peninsula), in the North West of East Nusa Tenggara at Labuan Bajo City. The hill allows travellers to enjoy white sand beach with green and blue coloured seawater. The left side faces Komodo Park and Komodo Sunset View, the front and right side faces the colourful seawater, while the back road leads to Labuan Bajo City and Airport. Price IDR 580.000/sqm.

The Allegory of Women Lalique recently expanded its 1873 square feet Paragon Boutique, which warm ambience is further enhanced to welcome guests for the cocktail launching event of the Lalique Muses Collection on 12 April 2017, with pastry chef Benjamin Siwek. He created the feminine form coated with chocolate to display the pralines in highlighting the beauty of women. Indeed, women have been both the object and the subject of René Lalique’s masterpieces. The brand gives a fresh vision of historical designs: the Bacchantes vase of the Naïades pattern is transfigured through new sizes, colours, shapes or uses. SOTHEBY’S

Jewels of Noble Provenance

Sotheby’s has been uniting collectors with world-class works of art since 1744, and became the first international auction house when it expanded from London to New York (1955) - the first to conduct sales in Hong Kong (1973), India (1992) and France (2001), and the first to hold an international fine art auction house in China (2012). Today, Sotheby’s presents auctions in 10 different salesrooms, including New York, London, Hong Kong and Paris. In addition, Sotheby’s BidNow program allows visitors to view all auctions live online and place bids from anywhere in the world. Sotheby’s latest auction held in the Mandarin Oriental, Geneva on 16 May 2017. This event set a new world record for selling earrings at auction. The record was accredited to leading highlights from the sale of Magnificent Jewels and Nobel Jewels, the ‘Apollo & Artemis Diamonds’. Sold separately as individual lots, the Apollo Blue is categorised as Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid Blue diamond weighing 14.54 carats while the Artemis Pink is categorised as Fancy Intense Pink diamond weighing 16 carats. Both were purchased by the same anonymous buyer, who renamed them ‘The Memory of Autumn Leaves’ and ‘The Dream of Autumn Leaves’ respectively. Speaking after the sale, David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of

150

Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division and Chairman of Switzerland commented, “It has been a privilege for Sotheby’s to be entrusted with the superb ‘Apollo Blue’ and ‘Artemis Pink’, which have now been renamed. The results from today’s sale – which saw more than 90 per cent of lots sold and three new world auction records – yet again underline the strong demand for top quality diamonds, gemstones and jewels. I am delighted that the stones will remain together as earrings. This has been a wonderful inaugural jewellery sale at Mandarin Oriental, Geneva, which far exceeded expectations, with a total of over $150 million.” The auction night set records in three different categories including the mentioned world auction record price for a pair of earrings. The other two categories were world auction record price for a Fancy Intense Purplish Pink diamond, won by the Fancy Intense Purplish Pink diamond ring weighing 7.04 carats from Piaget, and world auction record price per carat for a Fancy Intense Purplish Pink diamond won by the same Piaget ring. The auction also included a very fine selection of coloured diamonds and gemstones, as well as jewels bearing the signature of some of the world’s most important and sought-after jewellery houses: Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Bulgari, among many others.
