Marlienna Suwito Inspired by Nature

Marlienna Suwito had never planned to breed bird’s nests. Seeing the movements of a flock of swallows flying in her husband’s oil palm plantation in Pontianak, West Kalimantan later changed the course of her destiny. In this wilderness part of Pontianak, she in 2006 set up a swallow house, and it has ever since drawn the birds to roost. “It took me a year to build the house. Drawing swallows to roost into a building is very unpredictable. I believe that everything comes from nature, and with God’s permission I can grow my bird’s nest business,” says Marlienna, who is also known by her nickname Nana. She further says that the wilderness area in West Kalimantan is suitable for breeding bird’s nests. In 2015, she built the second house, which is bigger with more nest production capacity. “Currently, I can produce around 120kg of bird’s nests each month. The business has captured both domestic and international markets, including exporting to the U.S., Hong Kong and Mainland China,” she says.

As the business has flourished, she in 2016 started to branch out the business. Not only breeding the nests, but she also produces healthy drink made from the nest’s concentration. The healthy drink boasts two brands: 7 Stars Bird’s Nest and Heavenly Nest, for export and domestic markets, respectively. The 7 Stars brand is the premium concentrated bird’s nest that comes with different variants, such as with sugar, less sugar and no sugar, as well as the new one with honey. Products under the 7 Stars Bird’s Nest brand are ready-to-drink and have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the U.S., and passed the inspection of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). She says the natural processing, which doesn’t contain chemical and artificial colour, is what led to the approval of these both reputable agencies. The Heavenly Nest is the second line brand, which is also presented as in ready-to-drink bottling package. The products under the second line brand are not the FDA approved, but contain the same quality as the premium ones. This way, her bird’s nest products can reach to not only wealthy individuals, but also those from the middle-class segment. As of today, her bird’s nest products are available from Aceh to Papua. In addition to her network, Marlienna uses social media, such as Instagram and Facebook, to market her products. These social media platforms display testimonials that also reflect how words of mouth play a successful marketing strategy in winning the public trust of her bird’s nest products. Consuming bird’s nest concentration gives many advantages to humankind, she says. “Among others are as an anti-aging nutrient and immune system booster, as well as maintaining and enhancing human’s overall health.” Bird’s nest concentration is also synonymous to beauty drink. “Throughout the history, swallow’s nest is known for its powerful benefits to human skin. The high level of anti-oxidant contained in the drink contributes to the great improvement of skin health,” says Marlienna, who was crowned as Miss Indonesia representing Lampung in 2002 and Miss Lampung in 2002. Providing such healthy and natural product as bird’s

nest relates with Marlienna’s philosophy highlighting her belief that body and mind are integral. Her assertion of nature becomes the foundation of not only her bird’s nest business but also her involvement in various social activities. Body and mind are crucial in manifesting one’s action and behaviour. “Both constitute the essential element of nature in which life has to offer. We need to have the balance between our body and mind. Life is about balance,” she asserts. Her academic background seems to influence her role in social contribution. Currently taking Master of Psychology degree program at Atma Jaya Catholic University, she is a licensed business master practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programme, Orlando, U.S. As an active practitioner of psychological assessment and intervention, she often conducts counselling and hypnosis sessions for self-development purposes, as well as seminar and workshop on parenting and family issues. The mother of two is also currently serving as volunteer and ambassador at Focus on the Family Indonesia, an international foundation established to empower families across the archipelago. Another worth to note is her role in empowering inmates at Woman and Youth Detention Centre, Tangerang. “Each of these inmates has her own strength. My conscience led me to share my blessings with them. They need to be empowered, so they can be economically independent and positively contribute to the society after serving their sentences at the detention centre,” Marlienna remarks. Asked what her long-term goal, she confidently says, “I would like to share more of my blessings with the public, and have my bird’s nest concentration products become more affordable among most Indonesians.” To reach a wider public, Marlienna recently launched a new lounge in BSD area. The lounge boasts a concept that blends office and store functions in BSD area. And another store will be opened in Plaza Indonesia in 2018. In the near future, as she concludes the interview, she will include skin care products from bird’s nest, such as mask and serum. “We’re currently developing the plan. Right now, however, my focus is on bird’s nest concentration products.”

Richard Mille is a man, whose passion and interests may read like a conundrum to some: His fascination with contemporary architecture, whose ultra-modern features serve as one of the sources of inspiration for his watch designs to a degree appears to stand in contrast with his enthusiasm for history and love for “old stones.” Yet, when Mille, after several years of technical and design development, in 2001, released his first timepiece, the RM001, it became an immediate success. The watch hit the high-end market of timepieces with immaculate craftsmanship and provocative design, two characters which become the enduring signatures of Mille’s work. And to this day, Mille continues to produce exceptional timepieces, constantly pushing the envelope defined by creativity and technology. Mille was born and raised in Var region in the town of Draguignan, France. At the age of 20, he travelled to Great Britain, where he studied the language for a year, before enrolling at Besancon School of Technology to study marketing. Finishing his study in 1974, he was immediately hired by the French watchmaking company Finhor as export department manager. And the following acquisition of Finhor by Matra saw Mille landing a position of Director of Export for all wristwatch brands that the group handled. He switched company in the1990’s, joining Mauboussin at Place Vendome. He was later appointed as president of the company’s watchmaking division and CEO of the jewellery division, thus, paving way for his involvement in the creative process of watchmaking. The position also led to his building a close and relationship with top Swiss timepieces craftsmen, including Renaud & Papi/Audemars Piguet, whose collaboration with Maubossin included developing watches and movements for the company. Mille is one to always wanting to be on the creative side of things, and his position in the management with all the confining policy and consideration over business strategies, including production cost and brand strategies, all of which he saw as acting as a limiter to his spurs of creativity. At the age of 50, he made a life-changing decision to create his own brand, championing the idea of pushing watchmaking beyond anything that existed at the time, and adopting as an objective, a new, 21st century approach to horology. His plans were greeted with enthusiasm by his contacts at APR&P and his friend Laurent Picciotto. Another friend of his in Les Breuleux, Dominique Guenat, who was the owner of Montres Valgine, jumped into the bandwagon and agreed to go into business with him, despite it being a risky bet. At the time, Mille planned to develop one product only, the watch of his dreams; an approach that involved operating with little

regard for production costs, which when brought to the table, truly were excessive. Mille has the uncanny knack for blending the trusted watchmaking tradition of old with futuristic materials and highend technology. The results are performance watches that epitomize haute horologie. Hence, his watches are all born of an unyielding belief, with everything seen as a product. All of the watch’s components are manufactured to rigidly defined standards and distinct designs. For instance, a single titanium screw found in RM 002-V2 watch had to undergo more than 20 operations before being used in a Richard Mille watch. Mille is known for his passion for anything mechanics, notably cars and airplanes. He once said, “I’ve always modelled my approach to watch design after the way an engineer designs a Formula One car. My objective is to create a watch that is rigidly constructed using the strongest and lightest materials, performs reliably under extreme circumstances and is able to withstand all kinds of vibrations and shocks.” So, when the RM 001 was released in 2001, with a price tag of €200,000 price tag, the new brand immediately shot to the height of the luxury watch market. And, despite the low sales projections, the first product was a success, securing healthy several hundred confirmed orders for the very sparingly manufactured model. The band’s most famous models, though, are the Tourbillon RM 008, claimed to be one of the most advanced watches in the world and priced from €500,000, and the sapphire split seconds RM 056, which was declared the best watch of 2012 at the Salon Internacional de Alta Relojeria watchmakers’ exhibition in Mexico City in October of 2012. Today, 16 years later, the brand stands atop other famous names in watchmaking; its success remains irrefutable. The Richard Mille watches collection now contains more than sixty watches, each having been designed and produced with the same passion and uncompromising principles that guided the brand’s first pieces. The brand name is one of the most sought after in the world of luxury watches, and Mille’s exclusive partnership with the world’s prominent sports figures and teams, including Rafael Nadal and McLaren, with whom Mille has collaborated for 11 years, are some of the most talked about in the global sports news. Mille’s watches are truly exceptional, promising the ultimate grandeur of what timepieces are capable of bringing to the table. For, they exceed others in the design complexity, punctilious details, and overall presentation, and as the man, Mille himself put it: “The more you look into the details of our products, the more you are seduced and the more you are addicted to them.

Expressing Natural Movement The RM 51-01 Tourbillon Diamond Twister high jewellery takes all of its cues from the swirling form of a twisting spiral, a shape expressed in many organic forms around us in the natural environment. The case of Richard Mille watches is considered as the most difficult to manufacture, thus the new piece further elevates the standard of the horological world. The spray of diamonds emanating outwards in 14 rays from the tourbillon escapement at 6 o’clock can also be associated with the spiralling vortex one perceives in myriad galaxies of the Milky Way, an allusion to a whirlwind – the English translation of the French word tourbillon – or the spirally formed patterns of organic growth found within certain sea creatures, plants, trees and animals.

The baseplate of the manual winding tourbillon has been created of Black Onyx. Onyx varieties with rectilinear black and white parallel stripes are actually a part of the agate family, whereas the fully black type is what one commonly calls true Black Onyx. The black Onyx is said to be able to deflect harmful energy down to the earth while providing stability, thus believed as a charm stone against spells and bad energy. Keeping with the technical nature of all watches created by the brand, the RM 51-02 has a free sprung balance and skeletonized bridges in PVD treated grade 5 titanium. The piece is adorned with various hand finishing techniques such as anglage and black polish used throughout the movement. An additional security system in the form of a torque

limiting crown prevents any possibility of accidental over winding that might damage to the winding stem or exert extreme pressure on the mainspring barrel. Each spiral ray of the RM 51-02 is perfectly set with a single row of diamonds; the case is set with white diamonds, and black sapphires have been added to accentuate case details. As a final flourish and with an eye for detail typical of Richard Milleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s fastidious approach, the crown

has also been set with 3 rows of diamonds to complete the brilliant richness of this shimmering new timepiece. The tripartite case is water resistant to 50 meters, ensured by two Nitril O-ring seals. The case is assembled with 12 spline screws in grade 5 titanium and abrasion resistant washers in 316L stainless steel. Chantilly Arts et Elegance

Richard Mille held the “Art et Elégance Richard Mille” for the fourth time this year, which took place on 9 -10 September 2017 at Château de Chantilly. The event was by far the most spectacular, and was a perfect embodiment of the concept and executed to live up to its name. This year’s event opening was a gift for art-lovers – showcasing the inauguration of an exhibition by Mélanie Treton-Monceyron, the brand’s artistic director, dedicated to Poussin’s world-renowned painting “Le Massacre des Innocents”. In front of the château, guests were treated to a stunning mise en scène of Dali’s Metamorphosis of Narcissus, and inside the Museum itself the highlight was undoubtedly a moving rendition of “Hallelujah” in front of Picasso’s “Charnier”. The work, one of many inspired by Poussin’s original, had been brought back specially to Chantilly, with Richard Mille’s support, from the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

For this fourth time world-class automobile contest attracting over 16,000 visitors, 90 classic cars were competing in the Concours d’Etat and close to 800 in the Grand Prix des Clubs. On display were the most famous electric cars in automobile history, from 1899 to the present: the renowned JamaisContente from 1899, and the avant-garde Porsche Mission E. A highlight

of this edition was the celebration of Ferrari’s 70th anniversary, fêted with a display of around 30 of its creations, all of which participated in the Le Mans 24 Hours. A legendary Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa stood side by side with a 250 GTO. The 330 P4, 312 P and 512 S Spyder were lined up on lawns, which were designed by Le Nôtre.

Eminent Richard Mille’s partners such as Mutaz Barshim, Felipe Massa, Romain Grosjean, Jean Todt, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and Alain Prost were present during the event. Friends of the brand also visited in, among others were Didier Drogba, Eric Boullier and Frédéric Sausset among them, all relaxing in the dedicated Richard Mille lounge around a Delahaye MS 135 coupé CHAPRON 1937 and serenaded by French music from the Belle Epoque. The judges, including FIA president Jean Todt, bestowed the Richard Mille Concours d’Élégance prizes on the Renault Trezor and the Citroën CXPERIENCE & Yang Li. The prize for Best of Show was conferred on the unbelievable Bugatti 57 S Atlantic (1936) in the Pre-War class, and the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa (1958) in the Post-War category.

Omega has been consistently developing the Aqua Terra collection since 2002 as a new member of the Seamaster family. Shiny and Daring Silhouettes For this season’s collection, Anthony Vaccarello explores the paradoxes and tensions of a contemporary Saint Laurent femininity. “I love Monsieur Saint Laurent’s subversive approach to clothes, his dark romanticism with a hint of perversity. I wanted this collection to be like a re-reading, a radical fantasy of this heritage.” In his sophomore show for Saint Laurent, Vaccarello chose to show the new and still under construction Saint Laurent HQ on Rue de Bellechasse, in an enormous theatre with tiered stadium seating, and the raw grit of the construction site: metal risers supporting thick, dark green slabs. Last season’s collection, Vaccarello was inspired by one particular dress, an haute couture number with huge sleeves, which dates back from the early ‘80s. “I always relate YSL to parties, to evening,” he said backstage. “I couldn’t do a show without those golden years, but I wanted to take that further.” So while his show ended with the usual final lap of honour for the models, they were dressed with a new set of looks instead of the ones they had just worn. Shoulders are sharp and structured; a flight-jacket dress in laser cut leather adorned with shearling contrasts the nonchalance of denim worn with slouched leather boots, portraying an effortlessly confident femme de jour. Evening is reinterpreted in intense matte black velvet that flirts with the indecency of way crystal embroidery, accentuating her inherent allure.

Exactly 50 years after, the last of three outright wins by the classic Mini at the Monte Carlo Rally, the new Mini John Cooper Works Countryman now points the way to further success in this discipline. The second generation of the Mini Countryman is the biggest, extremely athletic and the most versatile model in the entire range of the tradition-steeped British brand. Another superlative now applies to the power unit of the Mini John Cooper Works Countryman, with an output of 170kW/231hp – the most powerful engine ever to be fitted in a Mini. Jean-Pierre Diserens The Financial Visionary Indonesia is one of the economies the world has been eyeing on in the last few years. Also worth the mentioning is this world’s largest archipelago is seen as a country with remarkable resilience in the face of crisis. For instance, during the 2008-2009 crisis - which rocked the U.S., many European countries, and some Asia’s major economies, including China and India – the country managed to score presentable annual growth despite the slowdown in some sectors, with 2009 being the worst for the archipelago. Indonesia’s favourable condition has attracted JeanPierre Diserens, who is an important figure in the realm of global economy, financial services and international policies because of his position as the secretary general and one of the founding members of Convention of Independent Financial Advisor (CIFA). Jean-Pierre is also known as the founder and chief executive of Fidurhorne S.A., an asset management and fiduciary trust company licensed by the Swiss Federal Banking Commission. He is considered as a true pioneer in the elite world of Swiss private banking as his firm is the first multi-family office in Geneva, established in 1976. “Multi family office didn’t exist back then. The increasing demand for people seeking a safe place to secure their wealth gradually led to the birth of multy family offices,” Jean-Pierre explains over a coffee chat with Registry Indonesia at a business lounge in a five-star hotel in Jakarta. As the name suggests, multifamily offices work exclusively with high net worth families to manage their assets and investments. And Geneva is very well known as the birthplace of wealth management, and the world’s capital of private wealth management. So, there are reasons why wealthy people consider Geneva as a safe haven to keep their money, diversify their assets; and no less important, to pass on their heritage. Jean-Pierre adds that some of the reasons why people chose Switzerland over other nations in terms of putting their wealth are, among others, the country is known for its tradition of privacy and discretion, the country’s political stability, and the Swiss Franc’s strong and stable currency. No less important is that Switzerland is listed as no. 1 among the top 10 tax haven places in the world. Jean-Pierre often stresses the importance of CIFA, which, since its founding in 2001, has been at work on

reinforcing independent financial advisors (IFAs) at the international level so as to able to represent the interests of investors. CIFA has members coming from 40 national IFAs from 24 countries with combined membership of around 300,000 financial advisors. In Indonesia, the CIFA partners with the Financial Planner Association Indonesia (FPAI) and Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB). In his capacity as the co-founder of CIFA, among other things, Jean-Pierre has been working closely with some of UN agencies, notably the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). With Indonesia, Jean-Pierre is connected to the Jakartabased organization, the Swiss Village. The organisation aims at bridging Indonesia and the Swiss financial community and provides consultation, translation, public relations and communication services. Jean-Pierre is in Jakarta to prospect for new clients and build on existing relations. While peering down at the city’s view from the business lounge on the 21st floor, he further says, “This country is indeed growing fast, with increasing number of high net worth individuals.” He has indeed expressed his interest in Indonesia’s growing economy, as he sees the country is producing more wealthy industries. This means there are vast potentials for providing services to assist these individuals in managing their wealth and assets. Due to this, Jean-Pierre has been fully supporting Indonesia’s rising profile in the global economy. “People need help to protect the safety of their assets, as they are now getting concerned about how to manage their money. So, they need some vision for the future,” says Jean-Pierre, who is a watch lover and has built friendship with some of the top-level figures in the watch industry Besides his active involvement as a financial expert, Jean-Pierre loves to spend time at the Lavaux vineyards. Beautifully situated above the Geneva Lake, the Lavaux region is known as the place to produce good quality wines since the 15th century. When he’s not in his homeland, Jean-Pierre travels to many corners of the world. “I usually travel for business, yet I admire many landscapes and architecture landmarks in places I have visited. Without doubt, Jakarta is one of them.”

Yustinus Mario Tenggara Carrying on a Legacy A chat with Yustinus Mario Tenggara truly creates a jovial mood. Over a drink and light bite at a comfy eatery in Central Jakarta’s area, he recalls his adolescence during which he started to realize his interest in gems. “I wanted to be a gemmologist since I was in junior high school. “That’s because I grew up surrounded by precious stones, such as diamond, sapphire, emerald, and especially pearls,” says Mario, as he is affectionately called. His passion for the precious gems took him to further hone his skills and gain more knowledge in the jewellery industry. Upon his graduate from high school, he went to Hong Kong in his pursuit of the skills and knowledge where he eventually earned his three titles: Graduate Gemmologist (GG), Graduate Pearls (GP) and Accredited Jewellery Professional (AJP) – all from GIA Hong Kong. Just turned 30 last August, Mario is now taking a leadership role at Rosario Mutiara, a pearl farm his father founded and currently operates three South Sea pearl farms in Indonesia; one in Flores and two in Maluku. Mario asserts that Indonesia boasts high quality pearls that have more natural lustre compared to other types of pearls from different parts of the world. The quality, as he adds, can only be found in the southern hemisphere, like in the territories of Indonesia and Australia. “That’s how the term South Sea Pearls originated.” South Sea Pearls are also called the Queen of Pearls, as throughout the history these lustre pieces have been worn and prized by queens and nobles. “The strength of these pearls is that their lustre will not change over time. Having around 9 to 17 diameters, these pearls commonly have two colours, namely white and yellow,” he says, adding that Indonesia has thus far the biggest producer of South Sea Pearls in the world, “supplying around 70 per cent of global market.” Mario asserts that Rosario’s rich experience in the cultivation of South Sea Pearls stretches back to the era of his grandfather. “My grandfather was the first generation in the family who pioneered the pearl business, and my father started carrying the legacy in 1990 even though Rosario Mutiara as the company was officially established in 2002. And I’m now here as another generation that carries the legacy.”

In running his family business, Mario works hand-inhand with his older brother. “I’m the second oldest in the family. I’m more into the operation side while my brother is in charge with the production. In our family, we put respect as the utmost importance. My father still involves with the business yet we as the next generation is the driver to keep the legacy alive.” While sipping his drink, he shares a little secret of what makes the company survive and stay sustainable. “The high quality of breeding standard! You know, this is something that you never compromise in doing pearl business. We also keep up with the use of technological advancement in our production process.” Holding Certificate of Authenticity issued by Gemmological Institute of America (GIA), Rosario has won the hearts of various clients from across the world. “We don’t do store. Our position is as a supplier and we do the partnership in many countries such as the US, Japan, Hong Kong, European countries, including Indonesia,” Mario says. As one of the leaders in his family business, Mario sees collaboration as a crucial factor in ensuring the running of the business. “It is very important that we understand other people’s points of view. Nobody is a superman, and this super hero called superman only exists in fiction. In reality, you have to collaborate with others to make things better.” He adds that one character of a good leader is someone who is aware of what he or she lacks for. This way, this particular person can delegate works he or she’s not capable of doing so to others. He also stresses on the importance of egalitarian leadership. “I don’t like a ‘yes sir’ leadership. Everyone in the team has the right to express their opinions as long as they can contribute to the betterment of the team.” By continuously building a better team in his company while maintaining the high quality of its pearls, Mario is determined to take Rosario to the next level in Indonesia’s jewellery industry. “And I also hope that Indonesian government will be more proactive in promoting our pearls at an international level, as we all know that Indonesia is home to the world’s best pearls.”
