MONTBLANC Van Gogh Limited Edition Collection

The inaugural Montblanc Masters of Art Collection shifts spotlight to the revolutionary virtuosos themselves after its preceding collection highlighted the patrons, specifically the illustrious 19th century Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh, in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. As tribute to his groundbreaking self-expression, the pioneering painter was inducted through five limited edition writing instruments that pay homage to his most famous works, distinctive art style, and insightful personal life periods - available from April 2023 at Montblanc boutiques and online.

Every instrument is unique in how exuberant color strokes lyrically fuse into a transmuted living artwork. All proportions are underscored by the golden ratio and will be featured in future collections. Each carry an embossed Phi symbol on its handcrafted solid Au 750 gold nib, Van Gogh’s signature and a key year on the barrel ring, and a gold Montblanc emblem on the wooden cap top with an inscription significant to his life. Deferring to his fondness of traditional Japanese woodblock prints and smoking, the overall shape is based on a Japanese woodcutting knife, and the clip is pipe-shaped.

The Limited Editions 4810 and 90 commemorate Van Gogh’s Arles stint by evoking the Provençal wheatfields and his famous “Sunflowers” piece; via yellow-orange barrel rings, impasto knifeinspired platinum clips, and yellow or blue lacquer cap tops. Moreover, the 888, 161 and 8 editions emphasize his rekindled creativity from natural Saint-Rémy and Auvers-sur-Oise, through powerful sky-blue and brushstroke-swirling details akin to “Wheatfield with Crows”, an “Almond Blossom”-embossed gold nib, sterling silver barrel “Tree Roots” decorations, handmade “Self Portrait with Straw Hat” etchings, and a quote that celebrates his transformative genius.

Accompanying them is a selection of fine writing instruments that take their cover and outer design from the sunny Wheatfield landscape with Van Gogh’s signature and an impasto-esque 3D printed Reaper. Meanwhile, the soothing Turquoise shade of Montblanc ink was inspired by his work “Almond Blossom.” The collection comes complete with Cufflinks, crafted in stainless steel, blue lacquer and sapphire glass that reflects the visionary’s trademark mesmerizing skies.
