The Regis REview
Connecting Ranger families to the Regis community
September Issue
How to stay healthy and well during the first part of the school year As students return to school, there is always talk about the “freshman 15” or better ways to manage the stress of transitioning into college or returning after a summer of fun. Regis University has services and activities to foster holistic wellness in the Regis community, including: • fitness and recreation opportunities • health education and wellness programming • leadership opportunities, engagement and personal development outside of the classroom • opportunities for wellness service learning Upcoming newsletters will highlight how Regis is helping students stay healthy.
The Fitness Center is open seven days a week during the school year, with hours to accommodate anyone’s schedule.
Ways Regis is fostering healthy habits and wellness - The Fitness Center is open seven days a week during the school year, with hours to accommodate anyone’s schedule. Whether your student wants to complete a rotation on our weightlifting equipment, hop on a treadmill or climb our rock wall, there is something for every ability and skill level. - Regis averages 15 group fitness classes a week during the school year, with offerings such as yoga, Pilates, core and spinning. It is a great way for your student and his/her friends to get involved in healthy fun! -Does your student enjoy sports, but doesn’t want the commitment of joining a Regis athletic team? Intramural sports offer students a way to join a team such as basketball or soccer and meet new friends. - Club sports offer competition with other schools in the Colorado area and a way to try a new sport that you may have no experience in. These teams include rugby, lacrosse, dance and cheer teams. - Our Outdoor Adventure Program is great for all students who want to gain a deeper appreciation and a better understanding of what the Denver area and Colorado have to offer. All trips include gear necessary for the outing. No experience is required.
Family weekend Didn’t get enough of Regis during welcome and movein weekend? We understand your first experience here can be hectic and busy, so Regis invites you back for a better feel of campus during Family Weekend. Regis will welcome back parents and extended family Sept. 26-29 for a better look into the traditions and activities that involve our students. Family members can choose from several activities to get a taste of what Regis has to offer. Here’s a sampling of some of the fun planned for this year’s event: -Interested in Ranger athletics? Catch a soccer or volleyball game and cheer on the home team. You’re also invited to the tailgate party Friday, Sept. 27, when the men’s soccer team takes on Adams State University. -Students still have class on Friday, but with one special addition – you! This is a chance to meet the individuals who are helping your student achieve
success in the classroom and ask any questions you may have about your student’s educational experience. -As a University committed to service, we offer an opportunity to experience serving the community we live in with our current president, Father John Fitzgibbons, S.J. Whether you are painting walls at an innercity school or packing sack lunches for the homeless, everything we do to give back to our community makes a difference! Whether you want to come for just the day or the entire weekend, it is our hope that as family of a Regis student, you can enjoy a weekend in our beautiful city of Denver while learning about life here at the University. 4

3
Be patient. Remind your student that it took him/ her a while to make friends as a child and the same is to be said in adult life.
