Speech Language Pathology Background initiative, the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, in concert with the Campus Saint-Jean at the University of Alberta, As part of the post-professional program

will offer a Postgraduate Certiflcate in Francophone Practice for Speech-Language Pathologists. The program was developed as a response to several years of discussion among various Alberta government portfolios and service providers about how to meet the needs of individuals with communication disorders in school and hospital programs who have a Francophone heritage. There is a tremendous need to support the speech-language pathologists who are working with dual-language Francophone populations in Alberta and other areas where French is a minority language. This initiative is directed at accomplishing this goal. In combination with assessed French conversational ability and professional preparation (MSc in SLP, or equivalent), Certiflcate courses have been developed to provide clinicians with a university-level post-professional educational opportunity to acquire information about normal and disordered speech and language, and become familiar with assessment and intervention materials for child and adult Francophone populations. Courses will be offered in the summer months on the Campus Saint-Jean

with some distance components. One course

is open

to

individuals from other professions. Funding for this program, including individual student bursaries, has been generously provided by Health Canada through th.e Consortiumnational de formation en santd project (CNFS) and through Campus Saint-Jean.

Certificate Courses The three-credit graduate level courses are described below. All courses will be taught in French. As formal French language testing will not be required, it is the responsibility of each student to determine whether her level of proflciency in French is adequate for undertaking the courses.
