Dear friends and Eurovision Song Contest fans, please accept my heartfelt greetings to all participants, guests and fans of the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, a tremendous musicial festival bringing together once again millions of people from different countries, cultures, religions and backgrounds - solely through music and entertainment. Being a milestone event in the history of music the Eurovision Song Contest is recognized not only as one of the world’s most popular shows, but also as an important intercultural dialogue. Last year Denmark won the Eurovision Song Contest, as the charming Emmelie De Forest captured the hearts of millions television viewers worldwide with her song “Only Teardrops”. So this time this worldwide recognized event will be held in Copenhagen. Originally founded in the 12th Century, Copenhagen started as a harbor town and has grown considerably since then. Denmark's capital is listed as one of the environmentally friendly cities in the world, and is filled with historic palaces, immaculate waterfronts and high-end shopping streets. Beautifully manicured gardens and 17th-century buildings stand next to pieces of innovative modern architecture, and give the city a distinct charm. If you add the Tivoli amusement park and the freetown of Christiania to your itinerary, you'll find that Copenhagen is the perfect destination for tourists and other kinds of travellers alike. After 2012 and 2013 this is our third special ESC edition of our GOLD Webzine where you'll be able to find interesting informations on all participants of the two semi-final rounds and the finals (the "Big Five" consisting of Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom and the host Denmark are already set) with lyrics of their songs, a brief biography with pictures, links to their Facebook pages and to their official video. In the table of contents on the opposite page 2 all participating countries are listed alphabetically with direct links to their pages in this webzine. There is a Home Icon included on the left page of every participant. Clicking on this icon takes you back to the alphabetical index on page 2. Apart from that you will find an interesting links to the ESC issues from 2012 and 2013 and a special feature on Scandinavia’s most successful female singer Veronica Maggio. Although not directly connected to the ESC we think that Veronica’s musical style is very prominently featured in some of this year’s ESC songs and will remain a strong influence in the years to come. Aram Sargsyan was born in Armenia's capital Yerevan. He attended the Yerevan State Medical University and graduated in 2006. During his study at the YSMU, he played in the KVNcomedy show, first among Armenian universities and later in the Armenian team Ararat in Moscow. In 2006, Aram joined several other comedians-largely unknown to the public-to form 32 Atam (32 Teeth) stand-up comedy show. During his first years in 32 Atam he often performed humorous covers of popular songs earning the nickname "Aram Mp3", referring the common audio format MP3.

In 2007 he became the winner of Armenian First Channel's 2 Astgher (2 Stars) program. During this time Aram started to perform live in jazz and blues clubs, record songs and shoot music videos. Famous TV formats such as X Factor, Armenian Idol, My Name Is..., Power Of 10 were hosted by him and brought him more fame. In 2010 Aram and his friends creating Vitamin Club. He has since also several shows in Armenia TV. On 31 December 2013, Aram Mp3 was selected by Armenian First Channel to represent Armenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Denmark. On 14 March 2014 it was announced that Aram will perform his song Not Alone in Copenhagen.

The story behind the Aarzemnieki group’s name is quite precise due to Joran’s status in Latvia. The word’s complicated pronunciation reflects each foreigner’s struggle to integrate into the local society. In the summer of 2013, Joran Steinhauer, whilst in his home in Bochum, Germany, wrote a farewell song to the Lat currency, aptly naming the song Paldies latiņam! (Thank You, Lat) Later, the video became a Youtube sensation with more than 100,000 views in one week. The popularity and enthusiasm surrounding the song was so large that Joran decided to pack his bags and make his way to Latvia with one thing in mind; “let’s see what happens next!” But Joran has stepped on the Eurovision stage before, having performed in the national Latvian selection in 2008 with his former group Axlina performing the song More Than 27. In the fall of 2013, the group Aarzemnieki grew from a solo act with three new members- violinist and vocalist Katrina Dimanta, drummer Raitis Vilumovs and Guntis Veilands, pianist, and the author of the song Cake To Bake. Winning the Latvian selection contest, Dziesma 2014, has been their biggest accomplishment until now. Although the group is best known for the songs Paldies Latiņam and Cake To Bake (which they are going to perform at the ESC) their repertoire is full of many original songs.

Tanja started singing at a very young age, participating in numerous contests and song festivals in Estonia, Russia and Ukraine. In 1998 she won the contest "Utrennaja zvezda" in Jurmala, Latvia and in 2002 she took part of "Fizz superstar 2002" Baltic singing competition. As a musical actress, she has played the lead roles in "Fame" (Carmen Diaz), "Kiss of the Spider Woman" (Spider Woman) and "Cabaret" (Sally Bowles). With the Estonian producer Sven Lõhmus and together with Estonian singer Ly Lumiste, the girls formed the techno duo band Nightlight Duo in 2001. The band released two albums and competed twice in Eurolaul, Estonia's selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2002, their song Another Country Song got second place in Eurolaul and a year later their song I can b the 1 came fourth. Both songs were produced and written by Sven Lõhmus. The band disbanded in 2004 due Lumiste's pregnancy and Tanja continued with her musical career. With the producer and composer Timo Vendt, Tanja created the band Jz Belle in 2005. After this project Tanja also starred in the band Sunday Mood with Timo Vendt and the Canadian guitarist Alex Pier Federici, with whom they released an album in English called "Something more" in 2009, with great success in the Baltic countries. In this period Tanja performed in the show "Queen - The doors of Time" in Theatre Vanemuine in Tartu, together with Broadway artist Tony Vincent and Estonian singer Rolf Roosalu. She had also participated in a few Estonian television contests (TV3), such as "Laulud tähtedega" (Estonian version of Just the Two of Us) in 2011, obtaining second place; and in "Laulupealinn" in November 2011, obtaining second place too.

Pollapönk have recorded two subsequent albums and played countless gigs all over Iceland. In everyday life Haraldur Freyr is chairman of the Association of pre-school Teachers. Heidar Orn is a pre-school teacher and drummer Arnar Thor and bassplayer Gudni Finnsson are professional musicians. Pollapönk have had a few big hits, including Leyniskapurinn (Secret Closet), Thor og Jon eru hjon (Thor and John are a couple) and 113 vaelubillinn (113 Wailing Car), which has had many thousands of hits on Youtube. In 2011 the Icelandic national newspaper Frettabladid nominated Pollapönk for the Fellowship Award in the category “Fighting against prejudice”, which is a cause they have been promoting heavily both on their albums and when playing live. That same year Pollapönk received the Icelandic Ibby Award (International Board of Books for Young People) for their contribution to children's culture. This year Pollapönk will represent Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, with their song No prejudice.

In 2002 Hersi participated in the Children Festival of Shkodra with the song Zogu dhe djali, and she won the prize “Violeta Filaj” in the competition “Ëndërra për muzikën”.

Her first major TV success came in 2005, when she took part in the talent show “Ethet e së premtes”, reaching the top 10 finalists. One year later she took part in the Albanian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Festivali i Këngës, youth category, and won the first prize in this category and thus qualified to the final. Hersi kept up her ambition to represent her home country in the Eurovision Song Contet: In 2010 and 2011 she participated again in Festivali i Këngës, and in 2012 she ranked 3rd with the song Kush ta dha këtë emër. On her fifth attempt, she finally won Festivali i Këngës and will thus represent Albania in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with One Night‘s Anger.

Anastasia and Maria Tolmachevy are twins and child singers from the Russian city of Kursk. At the age of nine, they won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Bucharest, Romania, with their song Vesenniy jazz. Their song was selected from amongst the 200 singers and bands around Russia that participated in the national selection competition. In the national final held on 4 June 2006 they were finally chosen from 20 acts to represent their country in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which they won clearly. They received 154 points, beating Belarus that got 129 points. The twins released an album called Polovinki in 2007, and have appeared in a made-for-TV documentary film about their success in the 2006 Junior Eurovision Song Contest "The Phenomenal Twin Sisters". In the same year, Anastasia and Maria stared in the New Year`s Eve television musical Kingdom Of Crooked Mirrors where they sang together with Alla Pugacheva, the Russian participant of the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest. The sisters also released their album Polovinki (The Halves). The twins appeared in the opening act of the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 on 12 May on homeland. The Tolmachevy Sisters will represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with their song Shine after being internally selected by Russian television.

Born in Baku, Dilara Kazimova studied vocal arts at the Baku Academy of Music. Dilara began to sing professionally at age of 14. After graduating, she briefly performed as part of an opera troupe. For the last 15 years, she has been experimenting with variety of styles and training her versatile voice. She was introduced to music professionally at the U. Hajibekov Baku Academy of Music. Later on she graduated as an opera singer from Baku Conservatory.

From the early 2000s, she was a member of the rock band Unformal and later the lead singer for the duo Milk & Kisses. Mariya Yaremchuk was born in Chernivtsi in and is the daughter of actor and People's Artist of Ukraine Nazar Yaremchuk. Yaremchuk's father died of stomach cancer when she was two years old. Yaremchuk has an older half-sister Vera from her mother's first marriage and two brothers by her father's side, Dmitry and Nazarov.

Mariya considers herself an apolitical person, but in December 2013 she declared that she "in the elections and in general, morally, and as a singer" supported (the political party) Party of Regions. She was a finalist of the TV project Voice of the Country. In 2012 she represented Ukraine at the international contest of young singers "New Wave 2012", where she came in third. Mariya was sponsored by Rinat Akhmetov during this festival. Akhmetov is friends with, one of the organizers of "New Wave", Igor Krutoy. Mariya also participated in Evrobachennya 2013 - Natsionalyni vidbir, the national final used for finding Ukraine's representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, where Mariya came fifth with the song "Imagine". In 2001 he first took part in a singing contest. One year after he met his vocal coach Nell, who took his vocal performance to a higher level and even today he is still working with her. At the age of 23 he registered for the Star Academy in France where he just missed out on being selected. But Axel did not give up. In 2007 he sang Vivo per lei to an audience of 1500 people with the French star Hélène Segara.

Meanwhile, he regularly performed with an amateur group in a performance of the famous musical Notre Dame de Paris. In 2013 he made his debut in the Walloon version of The Voice. He ended up in the team of Natasha Saint-Pier but had to say goodbye after the battles. His love for the Eurovision Song Contest encouraged him to enrol in the Flemish national selection show, Eurosong 2014. The song Mother is a powerful classic ballad with a simple and understated mise en scene, beautifully executed by eminent choreographer Isabelle Beernaert.

The Common Linnets are a Dutch band comprising Ilse DeLange and Waylon. started her career at age 8 although it wasn’t initially for her actual singing skills but as a lip-synching artist. She was introduced to country musice years ago when she formed a duo with guitarist Joop Liefland and performed at the Dutch Country Music Awards. In 1996 Ilse switched back to Pop when joining the groupWij releasing but was unable to enter the charts. It wasn’t until 1998 when she released her album “World of Hurt” produced in Nashville, U.S. It sold 450,000 copies and Ilse received multipl awards . Overall she released seven studio albums and five live albums and there is no end in sight. Her songs ‘So inredible’ & ‘Miracle” both peaked at Number 1 in the Dutch charts. Waylon rose to fame in 2008 on the reality television show “Holland’s Got Talent” prior to making his Top Five hit album debut “Wicked Ways”. He named himself after the late Waylon Jennings, an American country music singer. Around the turn of the century, Waylon had a short stint at EMI and was given the opportunity to join his idol on tour. After Jennings unexpected death Waylon returned home. After finishing second in the Dutch installment of popular talent show he found sucess with his retro soul- and rock influenced style. Ilse and Waylon formed the band The Common Linnets for a one time concert in De Grolsch Veste and now extend it for their participation at the Eurovisison Song Contest where they will perform their song Calm After The Storm.

He started his career as a singer in 1998 at the well known festival called Sunčane skale with the song Bila si ruža (You were a rose). Two years after his solo debut, he published his first CD called Kristina in December 2000. The CD was big success and young publishing company Goraton bought the copyrights from Pogorica's Hi-Fi centre and reprinted the CD with new label and started to sell it in all territories of former Yugoslavia. Exactly two years after his first CD, he published his second CD called Budi mi voda (Be my water) in December 2002 with 12 new songs with the company Goraton. In 2003 he participated at Budva's festival (Budvanski festival) with the song Postojim i ja which won the best arrangement award. In 2005, Goraton published his The Best Of compilation. After this, Sergej presented to the media his third CD called Kad ti zatreba with 10 new songs. The most popular song from this last album is called Pogledi u tami. In year 2007, he had an extremely successful tour throughout Serbia and Montenegro, which was completely sold out, and for every town, additional evenings had to be scheduled. Such success was unexpected by, perhaps, everyone. The biggest hit of the tour was the song Pogledi u tami. On 19 November 2013, Sergej Ćetković was chosen to represent Montenegro at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen with his song Moj Svijet .

In 2011 Kállay decided to visit Hungary to spend time with his grandmother who was ill at the time. During his visit in Hungary he noticed a TV commercial urging talented singers to audition for the nations talent competition Megasztár. Kállay ended up finishing fourth in the contest and shortly after signed to Universal and permanently moved to Hungary. Kállay released two singles under Universal, "Csak Veled" "I Love You" both of which became smash hits in Hungary, peaking respectively #7 and #2 on the Top 40 Hungarian Billboards. In December 20, 2012, he released the single "My Baby" which catapulted to #1 on iTunes (Hungary) and charted #1 on the Hungarian Top 40 Radio Charts on April 11, 2013. After enjoying great success in 2013 Kállay still had the desire to represent Hungary in the ESC . While having many songs to his arsenal, Kállay felt it was time to show Hungary a deeper song and chose to send “Running”, a song inspired by a childhood friend, who grew up dealing with domestic violence and child abuse. After winning the Hungarian preselection Kállay wants to give children and people in this situation hope, and there isn’t a bigger stage to showcase that than by representing Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen.

Firelight is a relatively new Maltese country folk pop band formed in June 2013. The driving force of Firelight is Richard Edwards. He’s the lead singer, author and composer. Music is in his blood. His father is a well-known singer in Malta and just about all his family are entertainers. Richard plays the Appalachian mountain dulcimer, acoustic guitar, and percussion. He is joined in Firelight by his sister, Michelle Mifsud, on the piano, and brothers Wayne William, as backing vocalist, and Daniel Micallef on the acoustic guitar. Additional band members are Tony Polidano, on the upright bass, and Leslie Decesare on the drums and harmonica. In 2005, Richard took a step away from home to venture in the UK music industry. While in England he got the chance to perform alongside Leona Lewis, Ray Quinn and other X Factor contestants. He got the thumbs up from the legendary Simon Cowell on the judge’s panel and made it to the final 80. In Malta he has coproduced a number of singles with his brother, Wayne William. These include “Busking in Baghdad”, “Allowed To Cry”, “You’re Gonna Thank Me”, “My Mistake”, “Change” and “Finally”. His music made it to the local charts hitting the top spot for a number of weeks. Richard entered the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and 2005 as part of the group “The Mics”. Since 2010, Richard took part as Richard Edwards and came as close as first runner up in 2011 with the song “Finally”. Firelight’s song “Coming Home” is a mix of pop, rock and folk rolled into one. Richard believes people will be able to relate to “Coming Home” in many different situations and thinks it should be especially poignant for the thousands of emigrants who travel across Europe for work, spending months away from their families. The new album by Firelight is also called “Coming Home”. The album contains nine new songs. All the songs on the album are a collective effort, representing band members’ inspirations and ideas.

In 2009, when Mei was 26 years old, she entered the 7th season of the successful TV talent show A Star Is Born. Right from start, Mei's Avant-garde vocal abilities and extremely wild performances were the talk of the show. Eventually, she reached the season finale, came in 3rd place and became the most talked about person on the Israeli scene. During her pregnancy in 2011, Mei joined the electronic pop rock group Limozina Express as their lead singer. The members of the band have been very well known and extremely respected musicians in Israel for decades. Together they perform on the largest stages across the country. In 2012 Mei was cast once again in a musical production at the Cameri theatre. This time it was Kazablan, a classic Israeli musical. In May 2013 at the annual Israeli Theatre Awards, Mei was nominated for and won the prestigious award "Best Supporting Actress Of The Year" for her role as Roza. Now her career has taken another step, as Mei will be representing Israel at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with the song Same Heart.

Carl Espen had entered a local music competition on Osterøy, and Josefin was standing with her aunt in the audience. Carl performed «Wild World» by Cat Stevens, and ended up winning the whole competition.

The music has always been a big part of Carl’s life, and he has carried his dream with him all along. His cousin Josefin Winther – a musician herself - has always thought that more people should hear his beautiful and unique voice, and August 2013 she finally sat down a wrote a song for Carl. She saw that he had so much inside of him that needed to be expressed, and she wanted to give him the opportunity to express it through a song that was truly his own. The result was «Silent Storm». She played it for him and he knew instantly that this was his song. They decided to enter the Eurovision Song Contest, and the song was chosen for the Norwegian finals. The steps onto the Eurovision stage on the 9th of March will not be big or many. But for Carl they will be crucial. Time has come for him to show the people that he has a dream. And he feels that it's now or never. He knows that to perform Silent Storm properly, he needs to be 100% present in the words he is singing, and really dare to show that he is still hoping that «Someday I’ll be calm».

Mariko Ebralidze was born in Tbilisi, and studied at the Zakaria Paliashvili music college and the Pedagogical Institute of Music Arts, and received a Bachelor's degree as a soloist and teacher in 2008. She had gained popularity in Georgia as a jazz singer. Since 2008, Ebralidze has been a soloist at the Tbilisi Municipality orchestra Big Band. Until 2013, Mariko participated in several high-ranked festivals in Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Germany.

Before taking up a drag persona, Tom Neuwirth - better known under his drag persona Conchita Wurst, worked as a shop window decorator. Competing under his birth name, he made it to the final of the 2007 version of Starmania. He first appeared in public in an advertisement in 2006, then entered the 2007 Austrian casting show Starmania, after which he disappeared until 2011. He returned to television in drag as 'Conchita Wurst'. More recently, Conchita Wurst participated in the ORF production The hardest jobs of Austria, where she worked in a fish factory, and in Wild Girls, where a group of candidates had to survive in the deserts of Namibia together with native tribes. In 2011 Tom participated in his debut as Conchita Wurst in the ORF's show Die große Chance. She got the second place in the Austrian preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

On 10 September 2013, it was announced that Conchita Wurst would represent Austria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark, after being selected by the Austrian national broadcaster ORF. Wurst's selection sparked controversy in Austria. Four days after ORF announced its decision, more than 31,000 people liked an "Anti-Wurst" Facebook page. In October, the Ministry of Information in Belarus received a petition calling on BTRC, Belarus' state broadcaster, to edit Wurst's performance out of its Eurovision broadcast. The petition claimed that the performance would turn Eurovision "into a hotbed of sodomy". In December, a similar petition surfaced in Russia. In March 2014 Conchitas song was revealed as Rise Like a Phoenix.

Kasey Smith - born in Dublin/Ireland – is best known for being a former member of the Irish girl group Wonderland. Yuriy Vaschuk - better known under his stage name Teo - started playing music aged four with the accordion. He was the winner of the contest Snowdrops and also participated in the TV show Star Placer. He undertook professional musical education in the Grodno College of Art (vocal class). In 2000 he was invited to work at the National Concert Orchestra of Belarus. In 2008 he graduated from the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts. He co-operates with many Belarusian and foreign artists as arranger and composer, and is the co-author of music for two Russian films. He also leads on a programme called Forward to the Past on the Belarus 3 tv channel, where the authors go on Belarusian regions and write Belarusian folklore whilst looking at the story of the area – about the work of folk songs , rituals and crafts . The programme ends with a new version of folk songs performed by contemporary artists. Teo had previously participated in the Belarusian national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 as Yuriy Vaschuk in a duet with singer Anna Blagova called ‘Behind‘. Yuriy, along with Anna, hosted Belarus’ Song For Eurovision in October, which was the selection programme for last year’s Junior Eurovision. He had also previously been the composer for national selection songs, and even in this year’s selection was the co-composer of Tasha Odi’s song, which was written with Leonid Shirin. He was responsible for 3+2′s ‘Far Away‘ in 2010, Alyona Lanskaya’s ‘All My Life‘ in 2012 and Alyona Lanskaya’s ‘Rhythm of Love‘ in 2013. He only managed to submit his own entry Cheesecake 1.5 hours before the closing date for the Eurovision Song Contest this year.

Tijana Dapčević was born to a Macedonian father Velko Todevski and a Serbian mother from Bosnia and Herzegovina Branka and started to play cello when she was seven years old. She graduated from the faculty of Music in Skopje where she got profession of a cello teacher. Tijana played in the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra and in the international orchestra of Leipzig. Her career began in 1993 when she started her work on the F.Y.R. Macedonian Radio and TV. She won the "Sunčane skale" festival in Herceg Novi in 2002 with the song "Negativ" composed by Darko Dimitrov, included on her second studio album with the same title. She has also won first place on the "Serbian Radio FestivalFeras" in 2006 with the song "Julijana". During Evropesma 2006 (The Song for Europe in the former Serbia and Montenegro), Tijana was placed in 8th place receiving 27 points with the song "Greh" ("Sin"). "Greh" was included on her nest album Žute minute, which was released in the summer of 2007. On 28 August 2013, Tijana Dapčević was selected by Macedonian Radio Television to represent Macedonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Denmark with the song To the Sky.

Sebalter (born Sebastiano Paù-Lessi) played the bass in a Swiss hard rock band called "The Stalkers“ from 2000 to 2002, specialized in covers of early '70s groups as Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, etc. From 2002 to 2012, Sebalter played the fiddle in a Swiss folk rock band The Vad Vuc. He left the band in 2012 to pursue a solo career. After four albums, more than three hundred live performances, and playing in front of crowds of more than 10,000 people - Sebalter felt his teenage songwriting itch coming back with a vengeance. He decided to close one wonderful career chapter and open a new one as a solo artist. He immediately started writing and recording songs, searching for the perfect sound that would provide a balance between his folk roots, his poetic sensibilities and his live-on-stage energy. After a year of intense work, he knew he had found it - and he decided to put it to the test by entering the Eurovision Song Contest. His song Hunter Of Stars, which is also the lead single off his forthcoming debut album, was selected as the winner and thus Switzerland’s official entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen.

The Greek music duo Freaky Fortune are the vocalist Nicolas "Nick" Raptakis and the producer Theofilos Pouzbouris. Both studied music since their early years. Tinkara Kovač‘s professional career as a singer started in 1997, when she won "Most promising singer award" at the Portorož festival. Her appearance was encouraged by known local composer Danilo Kocjančič, which together with lyrics writer Drago Mislej - Mef and Marino Legovič wrote the winning song and later the whole material for her first album.

In 2004, at the time of her fourth concert in Ljubljana's Cankarjev dom hall, she invited Ian Anderson (singer of the group Jethro Tull, which greatly contributed to her decision to start playing flute). At Anderson's reverse invitation she participated as a guest during the band's tour in Croatia, Italy, Austria and Germany. Tinkara Kovač had made three previous attempts to represent Slovenia at the ESC. In Slovenia's 1999 national final, she won the televote but finished second after the jury vote was given. She also finished fifth in 2001 and 10th in 1997. On 8 March 2014 Tinkara was announced as the winner of EMA 2014 with her bilingual song "Spet/Round and Round" meaning she will represent Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Paula Seling - a romanian singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, performer,TV personality and entertainer - started to play piano at the age of six and won few awards as a classical piano player. When she was ten years old she had her first solo vocal performance in the school choir. Since then she won almost all the trophies in the romanian music festivals. In 1998 she recorded her first album and since then has released more than fifteen. Over the years she had many collaboration with great names from the music industry such as: Al Bano, Anita Doth (2 Unlimited), Alexander Rybak. She was invited to open the concerts for Beyonce (2007), Michael Bolton (2007), Chick Corea (1998), Joan Baez (1997). In 2010 Paula and OVI represented Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, with the song Playing With Fire and they finished third in the final.

After X Factor, Basim released his debut album in 2008 entitled Alt det jeg ville have sagt (meaning "Everything I would have said"). For the album, he collaborated with Danish X Factor judge Remee and engaged on a tour in the country. The album reached #8 in the Danish Albums Chart going gold. There were three singles from the album, "Alt det jeg ville have sagt", "Jeg vil" and "Baby, jeg savner dig". In October 2009, he released his second album Befri dig selv (in Danish "Free yourself"). The album reached #21 on the Danish Albums Chart and saw release of two singles "Lad ikke solen gå ned" (reaching #15 in the Danish Singles Chart) and title track "Befri dig selv". Basim has also participated in the 2009 edition of Vild med dans, the Danish edition of Dancing with the Stars, where he danced with Claudia Rex, finishing 9th. On March 8, 2014, Basim won the Danish "Melody Grand Prix" (the Danish qualification for Eurovision) with Cliche Love Song. Basim will represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. EBU announced on 17 March Basim is placed 23rd in the running order of the final.

The leader of the group Elaiza is Ela (Elżbieta Steinmetz), where the band's name refers to. She was born in Ukraine and is of mixed Polish and Ukrainian origin as her mother comes from Poland and her father is from Ukraine. This cultural background reflects in the sound of the songs she is writing. At the age of 16 Ela began to work as a singer-songwriter at Valicon-Studios, Berlin. At the recording studio she met accordionist Yvonne Grünwald. At some event Grünwald saw a photo of Natalie Plöger with her string bass, and Plöger was invited to play with them. Early in 2013 the three women founded the band Elaiza. At Emil-Berliner-Studios Elaiza produced the LP "March 28" via direct-to-disk recording in March 2013. The record was named after the date of recording and was published by the label Berliner Meister Schallplatten. Since then the band applied itself to the production of its debut album, which is in progress in collaboration with the Valicon-producer team at Berlin. In 2013 the band won the newcomer award at the famous Women-of-the-World-Festival. In January 2014 Elaiza released an EP with the songs Is It Right, Fight Against Mysel and Without. With their song Is It Right written together with Mesanic Music headwriter Adam Kesselhaut, Elaiza applied via Youtube for the so called wild card for the German preselection, where the broadcaster had seeded seven acts. Elaiza were chosen to perform among the ten best entries at a club concert at Edelfettwerk, Hamburg. The trio won the televoting what qualified them to start at the German preselection Unser Song für Dänemark at März 13, 2014 at Lanxess-Arena, Cologne, with seven other contenders. In the third and final round Elaiza won the televoting with Is It Right and 55 percent against the band Unheilig, which is very popular in Germany. So Elaiza will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song in Copenhagen.

Emma Marone - born in Florence - acquired her passion for music from her father Rosario, guitarist of a band from Aradeo called "Karadreon" which was formed when Marrone was about 9–10 years old, performing in festivals and in clubs. Then Emma has been in the band H2O (always the Father), requiring the same group of a singer more. Both bands in their evenings is proposed cover Italy and foreign. She graduated from Classical High School, writing a thesis on music. After several musical experiences with several bands, in March 2010, she won the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi and signed a contract with record label Universal Music. On February 18, 2012, she achieved first place at the annual televised Sanremo Music Festival 2012 with her song Non è l'inferno. She has published, so far, 1 EP, 3 albums and 15 singles music and to date, between albums and singles, has received 2 Multiplatinum, 14 Platinum disc and 2 Gold disc. Emma Marrone will represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark with her self composed song La mia città.

Ruth Lorenzo Pascual, better known as Ruth Lorenzo, so far is best known for coming fifth in the fifth series of the British TV talent show The X Factor in 2008 and for composing for artists such as Auryn and Dannii Minogue, who have included compositions of her in their albums. At the age of 12, Lorenzo's family moved to America and this was the first time she had the opportunity to be involved in music at school. After much encouragement from her teachers, Lorenzo was entered into competitions and played lead roles in musical productions such as The Phantom of the Opera and My Fair Lady. When Ruth turned 16 the family returned to Spain and although having had singing lessons by this time, she had to cancel these lessons due to family financial difficulty and as a result Lorenzo gave up on her dream of becoming a recording artist. When Ruth was 19 she joined a rock band, which was a challenge for her as she had only sung opera music. In 2002, she auditioned for the second series of Operación Triunfo, the Spanish version of Star Academy, where she was rejected in the first rounds of auditions. After a successful European tour (over 200 concerts) Ruth has published various singles such as Burn (2011) and The Night (2013). Her debut single "Burn" entered the Spanish Singles Charts and reached number 16 when she released the single on 27 June 2011. She released her first UK single "The Night" on 15 June 2013, featuring a club remix by Almighty.

She will represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song Dancing in the Rain, after winning the national final called Mira quién va a Eurovisión on 22 February

Molly Smitten-Downes (known by her mononym Molly) attended “Our Lady's Convent School in Loughborough”, began starring in stage productions from the age of eight. She studied music at Leicester College and at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, Surrey and is an accomplished pianist. An acoustic EP Fly Away with Me was released on 18 December 2011. EP track "Shadows" was sampled by grime artist Marger and has been released on iTunes through 360 Records. Molly was the winner of 'Urban/Pop' at Live and Unsigned 2012 and also received a separate award for 'Best Song' at The Best Of British Unsigned Music Awards with her song "Lost Generation" in 2013. "Beneath The Lights", her collaboration with Swedish producer Anders Hansson, was released in April 2013 with Anders' project Dream Beats. "Never Forget", her collaboration with hardcore producer Darren Styles, was written and recorded in 2012. On 3 March 2014 the BBC announced that Molly would be representing the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the song Children of the Universe , writen by herself which described her ambition to write music that breaks down political barriers.
