T
hank you to everyone who attended our Spring Classic and made it our BIGGEST ever Classic show!!! And it is looking like the Summer Classic is on pace to be a record breaker as well!
The Board has been very busy preparing our bid package to host the NRHA Western Canadian Affiliate Finals for 2015 & 2016. The bid was submitted on June 10, and we look forward to hearing whether we were successful by mid-August. We are very excited about The North Branch is hosting their next show and the prospect of hosting this event and think it would clinic on July 19&20 at Highthorn Arena, Stony Plain. mean great things for our Association and members Amanda Antifaev will be judging. T
he 2014 Canadian Interprovincial Equestrian Championships (CIEC) will be held in Blainville, QC, October 3-5 2014. The Alberta Equestrian Federation is very excited to be sending Team Alberta to Blainville in the Fall.
The Technical Package, the Declaration of Intent for interested reining as well as thequalification process document can all be found on the Reining Alberta website. Last year team Alberta won the Gold Medal in the Team Championship, as well as Gold in the Jr. and Sr. individual Medals. This is a great event to participate in and represent your province in this inter-provinical challenge. For more information regarding the event go to the official CIEC website.

Affiliate Finals
T
he NRHA created an Affiliate system where each area can create a regional club (Affiliate) that acts as the main organizer in the area for that regions NRHA shows and events. Reining Alberta is the Affiliate for Alberta. While the Affiliates do a great deal of work as part of the Affiliate designation, part of that system is the Affiliate Finals. There will be three Reining Alberta sanctioned Affiliate Qualifiers in 2014. The Reining Alberta Spring & Summer Classic, and the Silver Slate Spring Slide.
This gives competitors three opportunities to try to qualify to compete at the Western Canadian Affiliate Finals (hosted by the Central Canada Reining Horse Association in 2014). Reiners compete at one of the qualifiers in their regular NRHA classes to qualify for that show. There is no special entry fee associated, you just need to specify on your Reining Alberta membership that you wish to designate Reining Alberta as your affiliate. Based on the qualifiers the top 10 riders in each class qualify to compete at the Western Canadian Affiliate Finals. Based on the results of the Western Canadian Affiliate Finals the top three riders get the opportunity to travel to Oklahoma City to compete at the Affiliate Finals there.

on Barnes attended the NRHA Derby Affiliate Summit via conference call. He reported a lot of great discussion about the challenges different Affiliates are facing. Some great ideas and suggestions were shared from different Affiliates as ways they have met these challenges. Some different ideas for getting more people to volunteer at shows, and increase sponsorship. There was also discussion on getting more entry level involvement in reining, through non-NRHA shows like 4H, Breed, and Open Shows to increase awareness and participation in Reining.
The NRHA presented its long term plans for the Association: – Try to do improve the lives of the equine athlete (Drug testing etc) – Improve Government structure to help drive member value – Help members be more productive (Every member will be different) Financial Report: All financial reports are posed on the members only page, NRHA is in great financial Page 20
status and you can review all report on members only page. Fiscal year is July1st to June 30. NRHA has done very well with investments. Not for Profit status has been filed and done on time. Rule Change discussion: A question was ask why the BOD votes on rule changes not the General Membership, it is in the bylaws that the BOD vote and make the final ruling on rule changes. For the general membership to vote on rule changes there would have to be a change in the by laws. Also a question on how the new drug policy differs from the present policy, which was answered by Tom McCutcheon. Tom stated that the new policy is that only FDA approved drugs can be administered to our horses, and must be prescribed by a registered veterinarian. They still have to look into the drug testing penalty phase.

he NAJYRC is the premier equestrian competition This year Canada is sending 7 riders to compete on in North America for junior and young riders, behalf of Canada: age 14-21. They are offering to pre-bed your stalls prior to arrival at the start of the show for a donation of $10/stall. They will also be offering a song fundraiser ($5/song) for the duration of the show. They will also be hosting a silent auction, they are looking for items to add to the auction - and be sure to stop by and bid on the great items already offered. Alberta has sent riders to compete in the Reining We are also in the process of planning an information Championship since it was added to the schedule in session for any parent or young rider who might be interested in attending the competition in 2015. 2008. ummer Classic is just around the corner and we just thought we’d post a few last minute tips and reminders.
» Stall maps have been posted on the website and will be posted on the grounds on move in day » Ring Smart bookings have been posted online. They will also be posted on the back wall of the show pen. » Reining Alberta is introducing a new 4, 5 & 6 Year Old Derby at the 2014 Summer Classic, be sure to come out and cheer on all our riders on Friday and Saturday night!!! » Show packages & Draw Sheets will be available on arrival at the show » Post entries will close two hours before scheduled classes except for the first class of the day which will close at 6pm the day BEFORE the scheduled class. $50 late fee will be applied to all classes except for Aged Category classes where it will be 35% of the entry fee. » HD2 Sports is our photographer & videographer at all our Classic shows in 2014 so please contact Dave at the show (or after) if you would like to order photos or videos of your runs. Be sure to pop by the wash bay in the agricenter after your run for a delay feed where you can review your run right after your class! » Thanks to HD2 Sports a live feed will be available to watch the show please keep an eye on the Reining Alberta website for the link. Peace Branch Chairperson’s Greetings

June was a successful month for Reining Alberta Peace Country. The feedback on the Cheryl Mitchell reining clinic was excellent with many participants saying they would happily take another one. The show was super with a significant increase in entries. Again we held the jog/trot class and it had two new entries. We also saw a few participants from just across the BC border, both in the youth and the non pro. All the extra help for both the clinic and show day was greatly appreciated as there were a few board members that couldn’t be there to assist. In particular Barb Letourneau stepped up to take on the show secretary duties for the weekend as our regular secretary wasn’t available. So a big THANK YOU to Barb.

June Results We had a phenomenal turnout at our June show, and some rather large classes! It was great to see so many new faces at the show, especially some of our cow horse friends who were able to attend. Morgan found us some great Tom Balding prizes to award our class winners, which I think were a big hit! The Tom Balding Longest slide was one of the highlights of the show! We had a great turn out for that class and were able to raise a lot of funds for the Branch. So thank you to everyone who participated! And congratulations to Morgan Girletz on his win, and Lachlan Bell for a close second. July Show The July show is sneaking up on us, it will be held on July 19th at Silver Slate Arena in Nanton. Big thanks to Austin Seelhof who is donating his time to come out and judge this show for us!!! Our Premier Class for this show is the Dynamic Duo Partner Challenge! Sure to be a great competition! South Branch Committee Positions for 2015 The members on the South Branch Committee are stepping down at the end of the season. The Branch needs a minimum of 3 committee members to continue. We are asking that anyone interested in applying for a position send Megan an e-mail prior to August 15th along with a short paragraph on why you are interested in running. All applicants and write-ups will be posted in the September Rundown so members can make an informed decision on who they would like to elect to the committee. Our AGM and voting will take place at the September Show. Positions: » Mandated: Chairperson » Mandated: Vice Chairperson » Mandated: Secretary-Treasurer » Requirement: Show Secretary » Requirement: Sponsorship Coordinator » Optional: Ring Smart Coordinator Chairperson: The Branch Chairperson will be responsible for representing the needs of the Branch membership at Board meetings, submitting a budget for the Branch to the Board for approval on or before December 15, and updating the Board on branch activities on at least a monthly basis. Additional duties include: booking facilities, clinicians, and judges for events, providing a write up on monthly Branch activities and events for The Rundown newsletter, updating the South Branch webpage on the Reining Alberta website, attend Reining Alberta AGM, attend Reining Alberta High Point Awards Banquet, chair Branch committee meetings, and act as point of contact for all Branch general inquiries. This position can be combined with any position except Secretary and Vice Chairperson. Approximate Time Commitment: 10-20 hours/month + time at events Vice Chairperson: The Branch Vice Chairperson will act as the Branch Chairperson in any situation where the elected Branch Chairperson is absent or otherwise unavailable. Approximate Time Commitment: 3 hours/month Secretary-Treasurer: The Branch Secretary-Treasurer will be responsible for the Branch bank account. If the positions of Branch Secretary and Branch Treasurer are separate, the Branch Committee will assign responsibility for the Branch bank account to one of these positions. This role can be combined with Show Secretary position. Approximate Time Commitment: 2 hours/per event Page 38
Show Secretary: The South Branch Show Secretary will be responsible for the South Branch Shows, accepting entries, running the show office, choosing patterns and determining the class schedule, creating draw sheets, preparing score sheets for the judge, and entry reconciliation. There is a $125/show honorarium payable for this position. This position can be combined with SecretaryTreasurer and Ring Smart Coordinator if desired. Approximate Time Commitment: 8 hours/per show + time at the show Sponsorship Coordinator: The South Branch Sponsorship Coordinator is responsible for being a main point of contact for potential South Branch Sponsors, ensuring Sponsors receive all promised benefits, and acquiring prizes for the South Branch Shows and Awards. This position can be combined with any position. Approximate Time Commitment: 5-10 hours/ month + time at the events Ring Smart Coordinator: The South Branch Ring Smart Coordinator is responsible for the South Branch Ring Smart bookings, creating draw sheets, and Ring Smart reconciliation. This position can be combined with Show Secretary if desired. Approximate Time Commitment: 4 hours/per event + time at event
