The 20,000-seat FTX Arena, home to the NBA, Miami Heat, is nested on the majestic Biscayne Bay. Besides its sports accommodation, the FTX Arena hosts world class concerts and shows from Adele to Jennifer Lopez.

With its dramatic sweeping array of six arches rising from a central origin point, the Fountain Bridge forms a dramatic gateway to downtown Miami - literally rising above the roadway to announce your arrival to this magic city. Designed and executed by a join venture between MDX and FDOT, this new double story highway is designed to avoid the congestion and traffic that is irreversible in areas like Brickell as new areas like Miami Worldcenter become the epicenter of restaurants, luxury retail and entertainment. As part of the project, the roads were lifted high leaving minimum spaces that would allow the City of Miami to participate in the green beautification of these areas where you will find meandering pedestrian and bike paths that wrap through lush landscaping and green terrain that is an expected break in an urban area like this.

With expected completion in 2025 this project will bring a spotlight to Miami Worldcenter while accommodating the density and desirability of this neighborhood.


33+ ACRES OF NEW GREEN SPACE The Underdeck will be a new 33-acre public open space under a reconstructed I-395, restitching neighborhoods divided by the original Interstate. The new I-395 will create a more accessible pedestrian experience under the deck structure by reducing columns and raising clearances. The Underdeck will be a place with strong identity to strengthen adjacent communities and create value. EMBRACE ‘MIAMI HERITAGE TRAIL’ CONCEPT Build on the JV Plan concept of a “Miami Heritage Trail”, linking neighborhoods from Biscayne Bay to Overtown and celebrating Miami’s historic and contemporary culture through integrated public art, feature lighting, and open space enhancements. MORE PLANTING, LESS PAVING Landscape is foregrounded as a defining urban framework that will last for generations, highlighting Miami’s ecological heritage and establishing an iconic amenity to support the economic and cultural vitality of adjacent communities. SIGNATURE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE A wider bridge design and enhanced materials transform this structure into a destination and experience, overlooking the “Active Heart” of the Underdeck, as well as a vital east-west connection. Partial street closures of NW 1st Ave and NW 1st Court facilitate a seamless flow of users to programming on both sides of the FEC Railway. CENTER ACTIVATION Elimination of an embankment through coordination with FDOT dramatically improves safety, connectivity and opportunities for programming, not parking at the core of the project – the “Active Heart”. ENHANCED PROGRAMMING Expanded programming adds social and cultural value, as well as opportunities for revenue generation. Event lawns/ plazas, café/ concessions, active recreation, and rental opportunities may contribute to funding for open space operations, maintenance and programming. Design of flexible spaces with distributed infrastructure ensure adaptability over time, as programming needs evolve.
