Purple Rain

The color purple can be a spectacular addition to the interior of a home, if the correct shades and dimensions are used. The color has become more popular in modern times.

Home furnishings, décor and paint or wallpaper is available in a myriad of purple options for homeowners to choose from.

Purple and its shades can offer a glamorous feel to your living spaces and in some cultures it is seen as a symbol of bravery, wisdom and spirituality. The color is also associated with soothing migraine relief, easing depression and assisting those cope with addictions. Some also claim purple inspires and stimulates creativity. Therefore, incorporating purple into the home is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it can possibly improve the way you, your family and guests will feel.

Sid Nama, executive director of Vertex Guam, a general contractor, told The Real Estate Journal that, “for hundreds of years, the color purple has been associated with royalty and power. Purple is a good choice for many versatile modern, vintage and earthy furniture and other items in a room.”

There are countless beautiful ways to incorporate purple in your home’s interior. Bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, home offices and family rooms can be painted or covered with wall paper in shades of purple on accent walls along with some added décor so the color really pops. You might find an accent piece that inspires you to use purple on your wall or floor coverings and you can go from there.

The color should be used sparingly if a room is painted purple. Just a few décor items will tie the room together. Walls painted purple or covered in purple wallpaper can be dramatic and a good option if done so tastefully, so that décor can be added. Décor including a statement chair, throw pillows, tablecloths, dining sets, bed coverings, rugs, and accent pieces are fabulous ways to add purple to complete a room’s look. In a dining room, a dramatic dark purple tablecloth can be a lovely way to feature silver dining pieces and tableware with some flecks of the color involved to make an impact. In the bedroom, a deep purple bed cover piece along with a lighter shade on the wall or walls can be an elegant way to incorporate the color. In a home office, a backdrop of a lighter shade of purple on walls can be soothing to the eyes. In the living room or family room, bold choices like a purple sofa can be inviting when darker and lighter shades are used throughout the space. Purple items like candles, flowers, window coverings, a statement light fixture and rugs are good ways to begin a purple spectrum in the living room, bedroom or family room.

The popular television show “Friends” featured a purple walled living room and accent pieces that inspired purple walls the world over. The use of purple can easily be made more glamorous and elegant with some of the suggested uses and a quick search on ways to use the color. If you have a home bar, adding purple would be a terrific way to give it some attention and flair. p
