at Hjørdis Sørensen Landskab type: different phases of different projects sketches, illustrations proposals planting and paving plans detailed drawings 2012 - current copenhagen
My career at Hjørdis Sørensen Landskab started as a student worker parallel to my urban design studies. After my graduation in october 2013 I continued in the office as a landscape architect. During the time with Hjørdis I had a chance to participate in a wide spectrum of landscape architectural tasks, working for clients both in the private and public sector. I had been producing sketches for our proposals, provided illustrations needed in the communication with our clients, and prepared drawings for the different phases of project realisation in the fields of designing urban areas, streets, courtyards, offices, housing, daycare centres, institutions, religious facilities etc. Projects, of which I had been an active participant: - 2014. Ellebjergvej 50-52. Corporate headquarters Renovation of the external areas connected to the building-renovation. - 2012-2014. Munkeporten 2-30. Hillerød.New building complex with mixed use. Refurbishing of courtyards, playground, planting. - 2014. Top Danmark. Borupvang 4. Ballerup. Canteen garden. - 2012. Købmagergade. Fountain. Working drawings of the fountain for the general contractor. - 2013-2014. Cemetery of Kirke Værløse. Common area with small fountain. Renovation of entrance, parking area and material-space. - 2014. Virginiavej. Midgården Daycare Centre, Frederiksberg Municipality - 2013-2014. Tinderhøj Skole. Rødovre Municipality - 2012. Børneuniversitet. Child daycare. Frederiksberg Municipality - 2014. Ringstedvej 29-31. Roskilde. New housing areas. - 2013-2014. AB Valbyparken. 140 flats. Renovation of the courtyards and gardens. - 2013. AB Bogbindergården 9-17. Renovation of entrance areas and courtyard.

office garden type: exhibition project design initiative partner-communication team: adrienn angyal rĂŠka nĂŠmeth roberta tok 2007 budapest (bce)
This project was possible to visit as a part of a garden expo on the campus of Corvinus University of Budapest. The team of students had to take the initiative and start a communication with the partners, who provided the materials for the realisation of the proposal, therefore experiencing a sort of collaboration between designers and other participants during a realisation process. Our team decided to work with a visionary proposal for an office garden, where workers of the complexes could relax on their break. Characteristicly different-looking herbs and aromatic plants were chosen to reduce stress and mental fatigue. The design materials were adapted to the contemporary appearance (2007) of these office buildings and were complemented by some softer materials and etherial-looking plants to make the stay at the resting area more pleasant. The garden was considered to have high maintenance and irrigation system, and due to the small and light plants, possible to be placed on a roof.

Dunacity (Duna = Danube) was a brownfield development by the river branch of Danube. As a reminiscent of the past industrial era there stands a great market hall, which was left for transformation as a part of the development plans published in 2007. The architectural concept of the development was reviewed and the thesis has been worked out accordingly. As a part of the thesis, after the analyses of the problems and values, overall concept for the infrastructure, open space typology and treeplanting scheme has been suggested for the 32 ha of the area.

proposal for the waterfront section, visuals
The proposal of the thesis deals with the valueable waterfront areas, where the goal has been to ensure a direct and versatile connection with the river inhabited by urban areas (dense closer to the centre and less intense towards residential areas), which gives opportunities for both passive and active recreation, and possibility to move along the riverside uninterruptedly. Doing so by giving special focus to the varied appearance of the river walls, taking into account the different intensity of the areas, and the accessibility for everyone.

During my Erasmus studies I got to know and practice the use of AutoCAD Civil3D. By the help of the program, we have produced terrain analysis on a digital model of the site, which then provided information of the elevations, slopes and earthwork etc. We used the tool also for working with stormwater management by means of producing information of the water-runoff i. e. watershed and waterdrop analyses. The project site at Flintholm station was an under utilised area (in 2008). The proposal was to connect the neighbourhood with the station in an accessible way keeping the openness of the area in mind. In the design of the ramp the existing self-made path was taken into consideration, and a smoothened surface was created for the green areas. Color by elevation - existing terrain

at Polyform Arkitekter type: internship model building visuals competition 2009 copenhagen
After half a year of Erasmus studies, I have signed up for an Erasmus internship. I have spent 5 months working at Polyform, which at the time was a smaller, but rapidly developing company. It was my first experience of working in a drawing office, and the very first of working in a (for me) foreign office with all native speakers. I have learnt a lot both professionally and culturally about how an architectural studio works in Denmark. I have had an insight in building, planning, master planning and design processes, and helped to build detailed, presentation- and site models, prepare collages and visuals, and work with proposals for a competition. Projects I have been involved in: - Market hall, Bergen - visuals - Nordhavnen, Copenhagen - presentation model, space syntax analysis - Købmagergade, Copenhagen - visuals, collages, analysis - Hauser Plads - terrain model - Cleaning Facilities Centre - sketching models - Bridge in inner harbour, Copenhagen - competition materials, plan - Greve midtby - section-visuals

Transect 2011 was a summer school to explore the water resources of Denmark, and how water plays a role in forming the danish landscape. On the excursions we studied coastlines, urban waterscapes and rivers in order to see how water as a driver changed the landscape and dominated the practice of landscape architecture. - www.transect2011.dk During the trips, I have taken a handbook and drawn 5 minute-sketches on site. Leaving the background informations behind, I decided to try to “see and feel the site instead. In order to grab the essence of the place a great deal of simplification was needed, but at the same time emotions, intuitions and thoughts were added and reflected. This resulted in being able to analyse and find the significant and valued elements for me as a person, a landscape architect on the site and I managed to call back on-site memories. This method has become important to me when starting a project, and eversince I try to learn something from every site, and believe that all sites have something to offer. www.transect2011.dk/presentations (pdf) - water4denmark - reka nemeth

amager strandpark type: uni. project ‘competition brief’ modells, analysis description team: ana santini, chris moir, ida schnoor, réka németh, peter overgaard 2011 copenhagen (ku)
Urbanism Studio was a very influential course I followed at the University of Copenhagen. In 2008 I participated also in the predecessor of it, called All You Need is Architecture, which at the time was a facultative individual study. During the weeks we were pushed to extend our limits, try to overstep boundaries and experiment on our views on urbanism. Doing so in a supportive studio environment with intense communication and “extended working hours”. In the first part of the course we were asked to create a competition brief for Amager Strandpark by raising questions for future planning practises and development of this artificial beach. We used different media to research what are the strengths of the site, what makes it unique. We have found that the site has a really strong identity coming from it’s context, therefore in the brief we asked to give the beach own identity or play with this relation. www.2012.urbanisme.dk
focus your attention ... focus on your spirit
how to improve the site’s own identity from the unique experience of the site and context? - how can a distorted experience inforce the relation to context and the site´s own values? - how does a temporary escape from context improve the sites own identity? - how can framing/staging the site make you reflect upon the sites relation to context?

vestskoven resort type: uni. project ‘competition entry’ concept development planning collage 2012 copenhagen (ku)
As the second part of the Urbanism Studio course, we were asked to provide an individual entry to the ´competition briefs´ created by other groups of the course. The groups provided information, expectations, models and videos to serve as a base for the future entries. Vestskoven is a manmade forest, which people visit to get natural experiences. The brief was asking - besides others - for a ´new entrance´. The proposal was focusing on when and how do we really feel like entering the forest, and built upon the connection between man and forest by adding urban elements melted into the woods. The resort became a transitional place to experience growing architecture in the controlled nature. Each plantation facilitated a different way of experiencing the forest (below, within and above canopy), and they were connected by common areas (cuts, moving platform). In these people could gather and get educated about natural processes, while in the zones they got to know the forest by personal touch. As time goes by production could still operate and more entities could be placed in the forest.

team: rĂŠka nĂŠmeth, sandra bilotaite helgason 2012 copenhagen (ku) - usa
The international competition was organised by the James Rose Center for Landscape Architectural Design and Research, in New Jersey. It was looking for built and visionary projects, which provides residential designs that go beyong green by exploring the ĂŚsthetics of landscape experience in the age of sustainability. Our entry was a proposal for a transformed suburban foothpath in a residential area in Greve. The footpath lay between private residences and connected the school with the lakeside. Greve was currently facing stormwater management problems, therefore we aimed to provide a new spatial experience along the footpath with the use of water conveyor and retention systems. This new open space would serve also for modifying the relationship between the private and public realm by changing the perception of ownership through providing a common area in the net of the private suburban fabric. The proposal was a strategic idea of how an enclosed footpath could become an open journey between public and private areas, neighbouring gardens; and create a community while building upon the existing topography and recycling currently used materials.

I have spent my second internship in Copenhagen at 1:1 Landskab, where my main task was to carry out the graphics and supporting materials of a prequalified competition of Realdania about the future´s suburbs. Besides working with the visual presentation of the plans, I have provided the visuals, references and diagrams for the 3 conceptual themes of the entry: “the ´detour´, the ´local road´and the ´shortcut´”. (1:1 Landskab´s website.) After the competition was submitted, I have worked with the graphics of several other projects, and helped them as a freelance for a short period. In my thesis project I´d have liked to reflect on the freedom I have experienced during being educated in Copenhagen. Therefore I decided to finish my studies with an “urban experiment” on a suburban transformation project in Brøndby. I have combined several theories and current practices with self-developed methods, and strived for handling open and built-up spaces with equal weight. Taken a starting point in a belief that every site has something to offer, I have used the concept of porosity to manage the complexity of the subject. “The project proposes to shape the existing terrain to a PLATFORM, which can facilitate the flow of materials, people, ongoing and future processes, providing physical and emotional continuity. It attempts to take the first step to create an overall base on which many small interventions can happen in different forms and times.” (thesis)
Transformation and goals
“It is a base, which is not only a ´plate´, but influences the whole of the ´meal´.”
Inside the edge type: master thesis project analysis concept development toolset terrain modification
As part of getting to understand the area and it´s conditions, different, visually not represented borders and resources were investigated. These informations were combined with the research of the documentation and on-site experiences. All of this analysis resulted a modified terrain, where the decisions about moving of the soil (and water) were based on historical tracks, existing values and future challenges. The evolving soil formations established a new structural narrative , which was based on existing spatial situations and enabled accessibility, permeability and isotropy.

The second booklet of the thesis was further explaining how to dissolve a barrier by creating multiple borders using the created soil formations of the modified terrain.
type: master thesis project
“In order to achieve the transformation of the site to become a part of the whole (´citypart´), a continous connection is needed. This connection is provided through the landscape by creating multiple borders formed by the existing landscape elements, the new constructed elements and a series of internal borders formed by soil. The physical and visual connections defined and guided by these borders restructure the place and constantly change the perception of ´here´and ´there´, this way dissolving the clear distinction and merging the whole of the environment to a system with multiple belongings.” (thesis)
