TAVIRA Tavira is a beautifully elegant town which has still managed to stave off the influence of tourism to hold on to its unique tradition and handsome character. The market hall on the river front is ‘home’ to several shops, cafes and restaurants around the edge with the central space available for exhibitions and special events. This stretch of river front along the Gilão River is a great place to sit at one of the cafes and enjoy the very picturesque setting. The beach at Tavira is a fabulous island beach, Ilha de Tavira, a 14km long offshore sandspit. There are lots of delightful places to explore around Tavira starting with the pretty town of Cabanas just to the east. These two beaches offer fine white sand beaches and the average temperature of the sea water is around 22°C. The view across the sheltered lagoon of the Ria Formosa to the ilha beach is idyllic. A short distance to the east of Cabanas is another picturesque spot - the tiny village of Cacela Velha, with great panoramic views across the beaches of Manta Rota and Monte Gordo to Vila Real all set against a backdrop of lush green countryside. To the west of Tavira lies the ‘Octopus Capital’ of the Algarve - Santa Luzia! It’s worth going a little further along to Pedras D’el Rei where you can get a tourist train across to Praia do Barril, a beach in the middle of the long Ilha de Tavira. Tavira itself is a picturesque, relaxed, peaceful town with everything to hand and is a perfect holiday spot and there are also lots of great places to visit if you want to venture a little further afield. Average Weather Temperature In Tavira, average monthly temperatures reach its peak in August and July hanging around 23°C. In the winter months the average monthly temperatures never fall below 11°C, with an average monthly January 11,5°C. The average maximum temperature reaches its highest in July and August, with 29,5°C and 29,7°C, respectively. The average minimum temperature is in January (7,3°C) and in February (7,8°C).

BEACHES Tavira Island
Tavira Island is found South of the city and can only be reached by boat, which departs from the city center and from Quatro-Águas. The Island as 11Km long and varies between 1Km and 150m width. It’s considered to be one of the best beaches in the Algarve Region. The Island belongs to the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, which is popular by it’s birds and flamingos, a delight for bird lovers. The beach has basic support facilities, like restaurants, toilets and showers, and is supervised during the bathing season. This beach holds the blue flag, proof of its environmental quality and superiority.
Barril
Within the area of Ria Formosa, Barril beach was one of the most successful adapting to tourism growth. The old buildings that supported tuna fishing, were transformed in shops, bars and esplanades, allowing visitors to fully enjoy this western europe paradise. Coming from the Pedras d’el rei resort, access to the beach is done through a pedonal bridge then you can catch a local touristic mini-train or you can walk approximately 1 km until the warm waters and fine sand.
Cabanas Island
Facing east of Tavira Island, arises Cabanas Island, a narrow but long strip of sand before the last bar of the estuary to the east. The beach is located opposite the village of Cabanas. The long marginal Cabanas appear humble fishing boats anchored in the lagoon and house dressings. The beach has equipment to support users (bars and wc) and lifeguards during the bathing season. This is also a beach suitable for windsurfing and sailing. The access is done in small fishing boats from the marginal Cabanas (four minutes).
Praia Verde
This wide beach owes its name to the green area of pinewood that surrounds it. Reachable through a wooden bridge, Praia Verde beach is a true paradise in the Algarve that even allows you to explore some Roman ruins. And the sunsets here are absolutely magical. The vast expanse of white sand expands endlessly to all directions. A walk in the forest would be as enthralling as a walk along the stretch of sand. You can park your car in the neighborhood and walk around 300 meters until the beach.

TAX SYSTEM FOR THE NON-REGULAR RESIDENT The Investment Tax Code, created by Decree-Law n.249/2009, approved on September 23rd, implemented a Personal Income tax system for the non-regular resident, with the purpose of attracting to Portugal non resident professionals qualified for activities with high added value intellectual or industrial propriety or knowhow, as well as beneficiaries of pension schemes granted abroad.
Frequently Asked Questions Who may apply for a non-regular resident status? The non-regular resident tax regime is available for citizens meeting the following conditions: • Deemed resident on Portuguese territory for tax purposes, according to any of the criteria defined under Art. 16, paragraph 1 or 2 of the Portuguese Personal Income Tax Code (CIRS), in the year to be taxed as a non-regular resident; • Has not been deemed resident on Portuguese territory during the five years prior to the year pretended to be taxed as a nonregular resident.
When should the citizen apply for the non-regular resident status? Before being deemed non-regular resident, a registration as resident on Portuguese national territory should be made at a local Tax office or Loja do Cidadão. The application for a registration as non-regular resident should be submitted at the moment of the registration as a resident on Portuguese territory or later until March 31st, of the year following the year in which one became resident on Portuguese territory.
How can a citizen register as a non-regular resident? Request the registration by submitting an application to the Director of the Taxable Persons Registration Service (Serviços de Registo de Contribuintes), meeting the delays mentioned above. This application should be presented together with the statement mentioned hereafter and any accompanying documents to any Tax Office, any Loja do Cidadão, or sent by normal mail to the tax registration services at the following address: Direcção de Serviços de Registo de Contribuintes, Avenida João XXI, n.º 76, 6.º, 1049-065 Lisboa.
What statement should a citizen submit when applying for a registration as non-regular resident? When applying for a registration as a non-regular resident, a statement must be submitted proofing the non- fulfilment of the criteria necessary for being considered a resident on Portuguese territory during the five years before the date on which the taxation as non-regularhabitual resident should start, for example: • non-fulfilment of any of the conditions described on Art.16, paragraph 1, 2 or 5 of the CIRS or • based on the Convention for the elimination of double taxation
What rights are granted to the non-regular resident? A citizen deemed non-regular resident has the right to be taxed according to the nonregular resident tax scheme during a period of 10 consecutive years, from the year of the registration as a resident on Portuguese territory, as long as continues to be deemed resident in each of the 10 years.
This period of 10 years is not extendable. Please note that the right to be taxed according to the non-regular resident tax regime in each year of the above mentioned period depends on the fulfillment of the condition of being deemed resident on Portuguese territory. Whenever the citizen has not benefited from right to be taxed according to the tax regime defined for non-regular residents in one or more years of that 10 years period, still may benefit again from that same right in any of the remaining years of that period, provided the citizen still has a resident status for income tax purposes.
