ILLUSTRATION: FASHION AND COSTUME 19 JUNE

Now this is an uber-cool art event that will have all members of the family feeling inspired! Newcastle Arts Centre is back with another fabulous event this June and this time, they’re bringing the vibrant world of fashion illustrations to the forefront. The magazine-lovers and book connoisseurs among you will have noticed that household names such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar have recently returned to using fashion illustrations for their front covers. With this art form at the height of popularity at the minute, NAC has put together a brilliant workshop that will welcome all abilities (thank god!) to get involved making pencil sketches from photographs and actual fashion items, as well as finished works in ink and acrylic paints. CHILDREN’S YOGA 26 JUNE

It’s time to stretch! Roll out the mat and let your little ones fall in love with yoga at this brilliant children’s class at Yoga Therapies. Yoga comes with a wealth of benefits for both physical and mental health and the younger they can start, the better! Children’s yoga classes at Yoga Therapies are aimed at youngsters between the ages of 5 and 10 and sessions include storytelling and games, movements and meditation - a fun and exciting way to teach the importance of wellbeing. A parent or responsible adult must be present for the duration of the class, however they can choose to remain in the session and join in on the stretching fun, or relax in the adjacent cafe. ART SCHOOL @ LAING ART GALLERY

Laing Art Gallery is pulling out all of the stops for creative makers this summer with several art schools for different age groups throughout July and August. 7-10-year-olds can enjoy various three-day academy sessions and 11-16-year-olds can take part in a fantastic four-day offering. The popular Art Academy sessions for 7-10-year-olds run over three days in the school holidays. Young people will have the opportunity to explore the galleries and try out a range of art techniques which may include painting with acrylics and watercolours, drawing and illustrating, sculpting with clay and experimenting with printmaking. Participants aged 11-16 will work with a professional arts educator to experiment with a variety of materials and create a portfolio of paintings, illustrations and prints.
