Remi/Rough Selected paintings 2008 - 2011
As yet untitled 2011 Detail
Being primarily a sculptor, I’m really into texture, tone and physical form. As a rule I’m not usually that inspired by bright colours and bold shapes - to the extent that I once got into an argument with a Mexican artist over the use of colour (we no-longer speak). Remi however, is the exception to this rule. I don’t know why but I can’t help but admire his work. The boy’s got a distinctive style and pallet. He didn’t create the colours he uses – he just stole them and made them his own. It’s got to the point now that whenever I see another artist using certain colours I think ‘oh, that’s a Remi colour’. Yves Klein might have his blue but Remi’s got his blue and his orange. And he’s very good with orange. Written by my friend and fellow artist Wayne Chisnall
