THE WIND CHIMES by EL VIENTO
A structure that is close to the people and is used in a daily basis. Demonstrating the guests of Valldaura the use of renewable energy that is possible to be built even in their ‘own balcony’.
The wind chimes use vertical windmill structure to capture wind energy from various directions. They generate off grid electricity directly from the windy environmnet in Valldaura. The fabrication of the wind chimes uses material can easily be harvested in Valldaura and the simple elements of the structure can be made on site at the carpentry in the main building. The structure can collaborate with the existing local programs on the terrace which is an active platform for various activities involving Valldaura’s guests and residents. With the application of a productive gear system that increases the rotation of the dynamo, the wind chimes not only light the in built LED lights, but also produce excessive electricity for more usage. The wind chimes hangs high as a part of a tensigrity structure. With such height they create quite a poetic shading effect. The intention of the wind chimes is to keep close to the people, so that they create a more influential impression and hopefully an inspiration into an ‘achievable renewable energy’
