Woven Haus Location: Year: Type :

Cimbeuleuit Cidadap, Bandung, Jawabarat 2018 | 2021 Reworked Competition Entry for “ Desain Rumah Tropis Kontemporer Mitra10 ”

1

Part 1 - Original Competition Entry Weather and geographical condition was always a chalenge in creating a dwelling space that is comfortable and also sustainable especially in countrys with tropical climate. Located in northern part of Bandung, the building design utilize tropical climate passive design technique. Combining the concept of synergy between the outside and inside space, to achive the ideal thermal condition and the penetration of sunlight towards the interior from the east through the west trajectory. The concept for the form of the building was based on the transformation of Julang Ngapak, a Sundanese traditional house in order to uplift the local context and the Sundanese tradition.

Original Competition Entry Design solution The nature of hot air which have the tendency to move upward was exploited by the cross ventilation system to move the air in and out, preventing heat in summer and damp in rainy season.

Passif lighthing solutions for the building consist of the use of brise soleil to soften the east and west light that enters the building, the utilization of the garden and gardens white wall that bounces light inward with the help of the roof shape that optimizes its opening to recive light from the sunrise up until dawn.

Base Form , Julang Ngapak House Part 2 - Rework The goals of the rework were to form find a better geometrical shape for the roof slope and to further perfecting the building joints sytem.

the method of form finding utilize Grasshopper which allows the building form to change even when we are already working on the other detail in a non destructive manner. The base shape itself stems from mathematic equation of a simple paraboloid hyperbolic wich has a great characteristic for water flow to slide down the roof more smoothly than the initial design.

Different a,b,x and y value to generate point distribution for the roof form finding.

The whole structure is parametricaly controled and will adjust to each other when changes are made to any component.

List panel wich indicate each pipe length to make sure that it dosent exceeds the market standard for aluminium pipe wich is 600cm. This function could further be developed as a design constrain that would actualy stop the whole iteration process if the poles length exceed a certain treshold.

Custom joint which will be oriented to each designated pole directional axis using boundingbox and orient component. Admitedly the orientation procedure is still imperfect and would need further research to make the bottom feet adjustable to the beams. Current design solution uses an extra block of timber that autotrimed and fixed in place to the beam it touches.

Sanur Pier Location: Year: Type :

Sanur Beach Street Walk,Denpasar Bali 2018 | 2021 Reworked Team Competition “ Desain Dermaga Sanur “

7

Part 1 - Original Team Competition Entry The ease of access from Sanur beach has made this site to be a great choice as a gate towards the much smaller island around Bali such as Nusa Penida, Nusa Lambongan, and Nusa Ceningan. The issue that the site face from its high visits rate from tourist especially during the peak season stems from the sites condition that was not well organized with a poor management, and uncontrolable spreads of makeshift shopping booth diminishing the hirarchy of the site, giving bad impression to the tourist that comes. Several concrete evidance points out to the trash that keep piling up in the area around the site and the continuouse gradual deterioration of public facility. The poorly maintained public facility were affecting the tourist morale preception of the area leading them to behave poorly, damaging it furthere more by littering and general bad conduct. The design that stems out of the contextual need is a building with a high sense of hirarchy with a straight strong clean presence that will inspire the public morale , whilst also honors the other buildings presence in the area that surrounds it.

the sites existing location on the beach side which has an unsuitable condition for a pier to be built.

Spatial transformation approach using an axis to achive optimal circulation and mass.

Supporting building with modern concept but still within accordance using local material.

Main building were made with traditional theme to balance the harmony between the pier and Le Mayeur museum that mirrors the site.

Part 2 - Rework The main goal from this rework is to replicate the original building structure system in Grasshopper while still be able to dynamically adjust and control each and evry element.

Each of the building elements anchor themselfs to eachother creating strict predefined structural constraint that at the same times remaining dynamic.

Hyang Shelter Location: Year: Type :

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park , East Java 2018 | 2021 Reworked Competition Entry for “ Desain Shelter Pesona Indonesia “

13

Part 1 - Original Competition Entry The design competition brief was to chose and create a shelter at a predefined nature location, and one of them was Mount Semeru in wich i have tracked and personally visit a month prior in 2018. One of the main issue observed through the site visit was the constant gradual destruction of nature due to the constant build and teardown of tents on the site. To combat this issue the design choice was to make a semi permanent construction that is solid whilst also leaves smaller foot print than a tent. The inspiration for the shelter form stems from a “ pura “ at the foot of Mt. Bromo named Pura Luhur Poten, in which ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa that were worshiped by the Hindunese locals reside. Taking in the shape, concept and the name Hyang that was based on Balinese, Javanese, and Sundanese tradition belive that means to be invisible or to blend in and dissapear to its surrounding. The main design solution to the foot print issue was the design for the feet and the foundation of the shelter to be based on “ rumah panggung “ with its feet height that can then be adjusted to the contour of the mountain range. Furthering the shelter practical impact in survival and longevity in a harsh montain environment the shelter design transformation were imbued with trapezoic characterisctic which perform as a wind breaker.

Shape transformation from pura

Part 2 - Rework The goal of the rework of this project is to create an algorithm based tent design which can be further modified to fit in the different condition of the mountain terrain, through the adjustment of the tent feet, shape, and size but remaining consistent in term of design language for each and every itteration.

Taking a simple cube transformation with the main attraction point on the chair feet that was inspired by the forrest shilouette. The slanted orientation of the horizontal chair support was intended to mimic the trees which has its each own different horizontal trunk thickness when viewed as a group. As loong as the chair is not viewed paralel from a straight side angle or front, for each different viewing angle of the chair support it will have different thickness thus replicating the nuance of a forrest.

Hive D Location: Year: Type :

Villa LKS, Padalarang 2021 Divider Ornament Design and Built

27

This project was an experiment on testing the aplication of Grasshopper on an actual real functional design project, and the possible method for the birth of the creation. One of the chalenge in the making proccess was how to physically makes the voronoi cells, a few consideration was through 3D wood carving, 3D printing, laser cutting, and to actualy carve the wood modularly piece by piece. The 3D wood carving method were inaccessable due the tools beeing unavailable localy. Other method in wich the main material were changed to PVC and converting the 3d model to an .Stl were also could not be undertaken because of the possible budget beeing overblown to 3 times the maximum amount allocated, and so the last option was choosen which is the manual wood carving. With the help of some local craftsman the 248 modules were able to be created within the time span of 2 month and now are beeing fitted and assembled to the stainless frame. To combat the possibility of human error within the proccess of making the whole room divider , the stainless steel bracket was intentionally made longger than the initial design, so later it can be trimmed accordingly.
