This year’s Kids Day is dedicated to our Events Coordinator Nancy Bove! Nancy Bove has worked at Burlington Parks and Recreation as a Special Events Coordinator for nineteen years! Though not a native Vermonter, Nancy has found the city of Burlington is now home. As a City of Burlington employee, she began her management of Kids Day in 1993. Kids Day was created in 1986 by Mayor Bernie Sanders and Jane Driscoll as part of a Mayor’s Office Youth Initiative. Through Nancy’s vision, creativity, and community partnership, the event has grown enormously in popularity and size. The event has switched locations several times in order to be able to accommodate this increasing demand, and now includes a large parade, children’s stage performances, hands on crafts and games, and community demonstrations. The newest additions
to the event include free admission and free lunch for all children. Through management of Kids Day and other events, Nancy was responsible for cultivating a variety of relationships with community organizations and local businesses, helping to boost Burlington’s visibility and provide partners with invaluable opportunities for advancement. After seeing the amazing talent represented at a Young Tradition Vermont showcase, she worked with them to present at Kids Day, where they have performed for ten years. This partnership has allowed young performers an opportunity to showcase their talent and gain experience as performers, while allowing the public an opportunity to learn about Young Tradition. Young Tradition has also been instrumental in bringing the spirit of Kids
Day to those who are unable to attend, by sending performers to Baird at Fletcher Allen Hospital. Nancy has made a wonderfully positive impact in the Burlington community in her almost two decades of public service, and her presence in the community and the department of Parks and Recreation will be sorely missed! She has truly made Burlington better!

Admission is FREE. Young Tradition Vermont (YTV) is dedicated to promoting, supporting & celebrating children, youth, & young adults singing, playing, & dancing traditional styles. Linda Peck Come & light up the day with Linda Peck as she brings Starry Night to Kids Day! Children can help her spin starry tops on sticks, as she orbits a ball around a Saturn parasol!
