Renew units have been designed to maximize the internal collection volume whist minimizing the space occupied on pavements. The unit is no wider than current waste receptacles and its design and placement allow the platform to be introduced with minimal impact to pedestrian ‘desire lines’. The recycling units are best placed in accordance with other streetscene items such as trees or bollards. Careful consideration needs to be given to the size of the placement zone taking account of other pressures on the footway such as the volume of pedestrians and vehicular parking provisions.
The pavement widths of the proposal locations have: i. a minimum width of 3,000mm ii. a maximum width of 14,000mm iii. an average width of 5,500mm
