PRESENTER BIOS Asiel Design

Known for their “out of the box” thinking, Jonathan & Linnae of Asiel Design are innovators and leaders in the event Industry. In the last 10 years, they have been popularizing and bringing styles to brides that had not yet been thought of. Today many of those ideas are considered mainstream such as rich and colorful bouquets, sparkling Manzanita trees as centerpieces, succulents as a cut flower, and broaches and feathers in bouquets. They are also leaders in styles such as steampunk, gothic, rustic, contemporary Indian, vintage, and old Hollywood glamour. Their work has been published in countless magazines and blogs, and today they are the style and trend directors for Today’s Bride Magazine. A few of the trends that they are bringing in now are: residential design, sustainable events, botanical beakers and prohibition romance. Asiel Design’s ability to create their own design elements sets them apart from the crowd. As Event and Floral Designers they are creating one of a kind parties that are turning heads and making conversation.

David Beahm

David Beahm is one of America’s prominent event designers. Known for his inventive work and trademark over-the-top flower creations, he has designed countless events for society, high profile and discerning clients, including Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas (referred to by the press as the Wedding of the Century), as well as a host of celebrity and Fortune 500 corporate events. He includes among his diverse corporate client base such well-known names as: Target, The Discovery Channel, Champagne PerrierJouët, Van Cleef & Arpels, Victoria’s Secret Beauty, Christian Dior, McDonald’s and Louis Vuitton. He has also designed some of the most talked-about parties for New York’s top non-profit institutions including: The Whitney, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Hackensack University Medical Center and Lincoln Center, to name a few. An expert at transforming venues here in the United States, David also designs events for clients around the globe. His destinations collection features some of the most luxurious and exclusive properties in the world, setting the stage for any event a client can imagine. Whether they want a beautiful wedding, a fabulous honeymoon, or a relaxing corporate retreat, David can make any client’s dream a reality. David’s insights and designs have been featured in The New York Times, New York Magazine, In Style, The Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Town & Country, People, Brides, TheKnot.com, as well as a number of appearances on television and on the web. He is a well-known speaker in the field of luxury events, and maintains a witty and entertaining repartee on Facebook and Twitter.

Philippe Lee

With over 10 years of experience in wedding, fashion, portrait, and commercial photography, Philippe Lee has an unparalleled knowledge of the art behind taking a striking image. His keen sense of composition and lighting serves as the foundation for his bold, cinematic, and high fashion style of photography. Philippe’s international background, which includes growing up on four continents and being fluent in four languages, significantly influences his perspective on the world and photography; “Beauty can arise anywhere and in anything. From comic books to vintage black and white films to classic paintings found in museums, I am inspired by everything.” Prior to his career behind the lens, Philippe worked for 2 years in journalism and 10 years in executive management for various international 5-star hotels including the Ritz in Paris and the St. Regis and the Four Seasons in New York City. During this time, he was responsible for large-scale event planning and management. Because of his creative impulses, Philippe also took part in many of the aesthetic aspects of each hotel, including staging, interior decoration, and photo shoots. This flair for the visual led to his transition to photography.

Robert Fountain

Multi-talented event designer Robert Fountain is an artistic master who thinks on a mega scale. His clients include high profile Silicon Valley game changers and the international social set. He charters yachts and planes, contracts islands, palaces and castles, and layers his brilliant designs with top shelf amenities all for the sake of continually exceeding his clients’ expectation…..but never quite meeting his own. His enthusiasm is contagious and complemented by his visionary staff, all rock stars in their specialized fields. From over the top design and decor, venue selection, transportation, lodging, graphics, catering, floral and entertainment… Robert Fountain International offers the complete event experience. Sasha Souza

Sasha Souza is one of the premiere event designers and a top innovator in the wedding industry. She is one of only a handful of wedding designers who have been named a Master Bridal Consultant, the highest designation given by the Association of Bridal Consultants. Souza is the recipient of numerous awards including the Special Events Magazine Gala Award winner for “Best Dining Tabletop Design”, Event Solutions Magazine “Designer of the Year” and three ISES Westie Awards and was named by Modern Bride magazine as a “Top 25 Trendsetters” in the wedding design industry. She has accepted the honor of serving as an Event Solutions Advisory Board member for 2011-2013. Beginning in November 2011, Souza will be a regular contributor to Bridal Guide magazine.

Marcy Blum

Marcy has created the weddings of Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, Padma Lakshmi and Salman Rushdie, and Colin Hanks and Samantha Bryant as well as those of Billy Joel and Tom Clancy. Over the years, she has produced events for Comedy Central, as well as events for Regis and Joy Philbin, members of the Rockefeller family, and many, many, lovely brides, grooms, corporations, and bar/bat mitzvahs kids. She co-authored Wedding Planning for Dummies and The Wedding Kit for Dummies, and has written columns on entertaining for The Huffington Post, Town and Country and In Style Weddings. She has been a guest on Oprah, The Today Show, Live with Regis and Kelly and CNBC Reports and is often a speaker at industry conferences. She has branded herself an “eventiste”, originally somewhat tongue in cheek, because all of the traditional terms for event planners, didn’t quite fit the range of what she does.

Believing strongly in giving back, Sasha is the Founding President of Wish Upon a Wedding, the only national wedding wish granting non-profit for couples facing terminal illness or other life altering circumstances, and Events Chair of the Search Foundation, which helps planners in the events industry faced catastrophic loss and illness. 9

Workshops for Brides

Workshops for Event Professionals FRIDAY, JANUARY 4, 2013

SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 2013

SATURDAY, January 5, 2013

9:00 am: Keynote by Marcy Blum and Introduction of Symposium Presenters: David Beahm, Robert Fountain, Philippe Lee, Sasha Souza & Karen Tran

9:00 am - 10:30 am: Great! We Have a Venue, Now What? by David Beahm

12:00 pm: Trendsetting Weddings by Asiel Design

Finding the perfect venue for an event can be “half the battle” or it can just be the start of a long process when conceiving of how you are going to tell the story of your event. David will discuss different venues from tents to ballrooms and the different approaches he has taken to arrive at the final design.

Asiel Design has been on the cutting edge of trendsetting events for 10 years. They are working as the Style and Trend Directors for Today’s Bride Magazine. Learn how to lead in a trend for our event. We will tackle which trends are coming up and how to set yourself apart with your trend of choice. Each bride deserves to have a unique and personalized event. We will help yours stand out.

10:00 am - 11:30 am: Making a Living and Retaining Your Sanity in Special Events by David Beahm In a recent Forbes article, the career path of Party Planner was listed in the top ten most stressful jobs, alongside fire fighter and soldier. Every day we are asked to take on the role of entrepreneur, business genius, accountant, creative director, artist, logistics manager, psychologist, ring master, florist, and moving company – in his talk, David discusses approaches to business and personal life that appeal to him and how he tries to practice it in his every-day life. 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm: Designing for Today’s Modern Bride: Keeping Up with Today’s Trends by Karen Tran Brides today have many options. They are inundated with bridal magazines, ads and social media with latest trends. In this workshop, Karen Tran will show you how to appeal to today’s fashion forward bride. Learn how to speak their language and know what they want. 2:15 pm - 3:45 pm: Event Design by the Numbers: Where Does the Budget Go? by Sasha Souza What does it take to create a show stopping wedding? It’s more than just the $$$ being spent. Sasha will breakdown what it took to create a beautiful event down to the amount of ice needed and the amount of staff hours.

10:45 am - 12:15 pm: Musing on Becoming (and hopefully staying) a Respected Wedding Planner by Marcy Blum This workshop will encompass all sorts of subjects that are on the list such as: Mistakes not to make in the beginning; Selective, laser-focused Marketing; Social Media and much more! 2:15 pm - 3:45 pm: How to Create a Design… AND Get Paid For It by Robert Fountain Getting paid for event planning is logical; you put everything together and execute the event. It is clear what the client is paying for. Designing on the other hand, is not as tangible and therefore, sometimes harder to get paid for (even though it can take more effort). Robert Fountain has created the solution. His detailed design decks allow the client to visually see every aspect of the event from the hard goods, to the feel, look and taste of the whole event. It is a story board that walks the client through the whole event, leaving them feeling even more confident in your services and creating a step-by-step instruction manual for your production team. Get ready to be educated and inspired!

4:00 pm - 5:30 pm: Design and Plan the “Un” Wedding by Robert Fountain While weddings are a magical celebration and so special to be a part of, sometimes there is more to an event than the wedding. Robert Fountain will share his secrets of designing and planning the “un”wedding, where the event is based around the guests having an unforgettable and marvelous weekend and the wedding is just another event component. After sharing his expertise, and listening to great antidotes, Robert will leave you desiring to have a “un”wedding (even if you are already married!). 10

Explore using the talents you already have to branch out and become successful in the Fashion, Commercial, Corporate and Merchandising Fields. 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm: Event Design Roundtable: Getting Your Questions Answered with David Beahm, Marcy Blum, Sasha Souza, Karen Tran & Robert Fountain The final Symposium session will be an informal roundtable style event.
