What do you recommend for a bride to do in preparation for her appointment at Wedding World? Is there a typical Wedding World bride?

Definitely not! Because we all come in different shapes and sizes and our tastes are all very different there is always plenty of choice for every bride, whatever her personal style, and whatever the budget. We believe that you don’t have to spend a fortune to receive a great service. We love to play with accessories to show exactly what can be done to make the most of the gowns and really begin to create the perfect and unique look.

Has social media had an effect on the business?

It certainly has. When Wedding World opened in Telford in 1983 the internet didn’t exist, never mind social media! As well as being a good marketing tool, social media is a great way for visitors to the boutique to get to know a little about us before they even walk through the doors. It’s a good way to showcase new gown arrivals, events and “special moments”. It’s also lovely that a high proportion of our new “Mrs” stay in touch with us via Facebook and we even get to follow the progress of the new additions to their families!

Finally, in one sentence, what would you like visitors to the boutique to say after their visit? That’s easy, “They more than lived up to their slogan – Experience Shropshire’s Premier Bridal Boutique, Experience the Difference”!

WHEN DO I PAY FOR MY DRESS?

QUESTIONS

Yes. We have dresses of all different styles, colours and sizes to suit your age, personality and the style of wedding you wish to have.

Once you have decided on the gown we will take your measurements and you will be required to sign a copy of our terms and conditions which we will discuss with you to advise on all key points.

ASKED DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?

It is advisable to make an appointment as we only accept one bridal party at a time in order to dedicate time and attention to you. HOW LONG DO I GET TO TRY DRESSES ON? We allocate 1¼ hours for first appointments with us. If subsequent visits are required, it is usually around 45 minutes as your dress selection will be narrower than on your first visit. HOW MANY DRESSES CAN I TRY ON? As many as you like and can fit into your appointment time! It is normally possible to try on around five dresses in your appointment but this can depend on how many people you bring with you. We would advise that you try to restrict your party size to no more than three others as this will help you to decide more easily. WHAT SIZES ARE YOUR SAMPLE GOWNS? Mainly sizes 8-18, but we do have some dresses up to size 30. However, depending on your choice of designer, we can order sizes from 4-32.

WHAT PRICE RANGE ARE YOUR DRESSES? Our current selection is priced from around £295 to £2,900. Approximately 80% have price tags between £850 and £1500. Also, we usually have some samples on sale and at amazing prices. WHEN SHOULD I ORDER MY DRESS? We have to give most designers at least four months’ notice from order date. So, we do recommend making sure your dress is on order at least five and a half /six months before your wedding date. This gives you good time for fittings, etc. However, in some circumstances and with some of our designers we can work to a shorter time frame. Our most common lead time is 1218 months. DO YOU STORE MY WEDDING DRESS? Yes we do, it is a service we provide for a small one off fee. We usually arrange for your gown to be delivered from the designer approximately 10/12 weeks before your wedding and then around 6 weeks before the wedding we will arrange a fitting so we can agree and start alterations required. Once fittings are completed your gown will be professionally steamed and bagged ready for collection usually sometime in the week of your wedding.

You will then pay a 50% deposit to secure your order and enable us to place your gown on order with the designer. We will then arrange for your dress to be delivered into the boutique approximately 10-12 weeks prior to your wedding date. The balance must be paid within 30 days of delivery to the shop. DO YOU OFFER PAYMENT TERMS? We are always willing to be flexible to your requirements. Providing time allows, you can pay your dress off on a regular (weekly/monthly) basis. DO YOU OFFER ALTERATION SERVICES AND IF SO, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Yes, we do! We have a workroom on our premises. We do not operate a fixed charge policy, we only charge for the alterations required. You will be given a price list as part of your information pack when you order your gown. DO YOU SELL SECOND HAND DRESSES? No. We do, however, regularly sell end of season sample gowns with at least 50% off the original sales price.

o the love of your life has “popped THE question” and after you have recovered enough to say “yes” your next reaction is probably to buy a pile of bridal magazines and reach for the keyboard to search the internet to start the hunt for the perfect dress. But stop, take a minute to reconsider…

f you type ‘wedding dress’ into Google over 48 million results come up, with the ‘top’ hits offering ‘up to 70% off’ and ‘dresses from as little as £81.99’. Sound too good to be true? It usually is.

£1000 designer dress that you fell in love with at your local bridal boutique for just £100 you would feel tempted - who wouldn’t want to ‘save’ £900? But give into that temptation and part with your hard earned cash and you may realise, too late, that you have been duped.

“Having looked through a lot of websites, at various wedding dresses, I discovered the same photographs reappearing on numerous sites, with the wording ‘direct from my factory’. I decided to purchase online. The price was £24.99 with £70.00 p& p. The photograph showed a very expensive-looking designer dress but when it arrived it came in a A3 size envelope, with a veil and stole. The veil had a paper edging like you would find on a paper doily and the dress did not resemble the photo in any way. I could have wept, the zip was badly put in and the material was substandard…”

veryone wants value for money and is on the hunt for what seems to be a good deal. It is easy to be so seduced by the promise of a wedding gown supposedly designed by a top bridal designer, for a ridiculous price. Some websites that sell “copy” dresses show photos of the gowns taken straight from the designer’s website but their version of the dress can look very different. They offer reassurances that the reason their prices are so low is because they are selling directly from the factory and do not have large overheads to pay like many UK bridal stores. The reality is that they are using inferior materials to the high quality fabrics and workmanship the designer would use. Without this knowledge it is easy to see why, when faced with the opportunity to purchase that
