Walkers and runners were recognized last month for achieving Team Decatur Grand Slam Fitness Champion status at the annual Run With the Dogs 5k (pictured right). To become a GSFC they participated in three of the qualifying races held in Decatur as well as the Kaiser Permanente Corporate Run Walk held in Atlanta last September. The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) will host a Get Fit Open House and Launch Party at the Fitness Center located on the Zaban Park campus, 5342 Tilly Mill Road in Dunwoody. The event will be held Feb. 1-7 during regular Fitness Center hours, from 5:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. During the open house, a new roster of specialty classes will be introduced. The Cedar Club of Atlanta Foundation, along with the Cedar Club of Atlanta, will host the 3rd annual Magic Carpet Ride Gala benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on Feb. 15 at the Westin Buckhead on Peachtree. This black tie optional event will offer an entertaining program including live entertainment, dancing and both silent and live auctions. Cyc, the indoor cycling method which combines cardio and strength training, is now open at The Forum Athletic Club in Buckhead. The Cyc Method offers a beatbased 45-minute ride that activates the whole body, the whole time. Weights are incorporated into sectors inspired by more than 20 different sports moves such as boxing, volleyball and swimming. UnitedHealthcare donated 250 laptop computers to community organizations in Georgia last month, including the Latin American Association, Action Ministries, Antioch Urban Ministries, The Luke Project and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta. The donated computers help people gain access to health information, assistance programs and other online resources.

2015 marks 50 years for Meals On Wheels Atlanta providing critical services to local seniors and a major meal delivery milestone – 3.4 million meals delivered. Founded in 1965 as Senior Citizen Services, the meals program has grown from delivering 75 meals in its first year to delivering more than 130,000 meals annually. In addition, the organization runs seven senior centers, an adult day care center and completes more than 1,200 home repairs annually.

Metro Atlanta customers and associates contributed more than $316,000 in just six weeks to Kroger’s 2014 Can Hunger campaign and $95,000 to a second initiative benefitting the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
