Readings, workshops & events around Intown

If you appreciate poetry and spoken word, there will be plenty of verse-related events to keep you busy all month long as Intown observes National Poetry Month.

Word is Born at Apache Café

Apache Café, which is moving into an interim space at 880 Woodrow St. SW, presents its poetry and music open mic every Sunday. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit apachecafe.info.

Poetry Workshop at The Arts Exchange

Award-winning poets Theresa Davis, Andrea Jurjevic and Collin Kelley will give a free poetry workshop and discussion on April 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Arts Exchange, 2148 Newnan St. in East Point. The workshop, presented by the Broadleaf Writers Association, is open to adults of all poetry experience levels and will include creating new work. For more information, visit broadleafwriters.com.

Poetry Atlanta Presents… Sibling Rivalry Press

Poetry Atlanta, the nonprofit that promotes live poetry events, is marking its 35th anniversary this year and will celebrate National Poetry Month with a special edition of its Poetry Atlanta Presents… reading series featuring poets from award-winning Sibling Rivalry Press. Featured poets will include Robert Siek, Charlie Bondhus, Theresa Davis, Juie E. Bloemeke, Megan Volpert, Brent Calderwood and host Collin Kelley. The free reading, presented in association with Georgia Center for the Book, will be held April 8, 7:15 p.m., at the Decatur Library, 215 Sycamore St. More at facebook.com/poetryatlanta.

Poetry at Callanwolde: Cecilia Woloch and Eve Hoffman

Poets Cecilia Woloch and Eve Hoffman will read from their latest work at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, 980 Briarcliff Road, on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. For more details, visit callanwolde.org.

Java Speaks at The Pinewood

Java Monkey Coffee House is still closed for repairs after last year’s arson attack, but the long-running open mic is returning to Decatur on April 14 at its new home – The Pinewood, 254 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. The sign-up list for the open mic is available beginning at 7:30 p.m. and readings begin at 8 p.m. Award-winning poet Theresa Davis is the host. Facebook.com/thepinewoodtr.

Kodac Harrison & Friends
