REPORTER
T
his spring semester began like most others: weekly meetings in the Reporter office, magazines being published monthly and assignments being churned out online. Meanwhile, a novel coronavirus began spreading around the globe. None of us saw the abrupt end of the semester coming so soon. We certainly couldn’t have known what it would feel like to have complete change in our day-to-day schedules, to say goodbye to our campus community or to be distant from the organization we love most. For a time, it seemed almost impossible to keep going. We scrambled to find ways to keep providing RIT students with content that was relevant and important to them. We tried to stay on track with our print schedule despite everyone’s different circumstances. Reporter has carried on, but our pace is different. Being together looks different now, but the sentiment is still the same. Amid all of this uncertainty, we have found the strength to persist. As creatives, we have a fire in us that demands to be set free. The fire may grow dim — once in a while only its embers still glow — but it never fully extinguishes. It’s just waiting for the next thing to feed it. The Reporter team has found some solace in our creativity. We’ve worked to document, share our stories and make something beautiful out of this devastating time. We hope this work reminds you that creativity has a way of connecting us and inspiring hope for the future.
