How the Town Voted

Special Town Meeting Wrap-up By Laura Calverley

Residents at the special town meeting last month approved a solar power production facility, new public safety vehicles, and reinstatement of the Emergency Management Agency budget, among many other articles. The meeting took place over two nights, starting on November 8 and concluding on its second night November 22. Turnout was about 4 percent of registered voters the first night and 3 percent the second night. The following articles were approved: • Several amendments to the Fiscal Year 2011 budget, totaling $27,489.00 that included increasing Highway Department and Board of Health wages and purchasing new computer equipment for town offices. • The payment of prior year bills totaling about $22,800.

• Articles requesting three new police vehicles - two patrol cruisers and one supervisor’s vehicle - and a fire department command vehicle. The vehicles being replaced were between 7 and 10 years old. The police cars had about 140,000 to 170,000 miles and the fire department vehicle had more than 175,000 miles on it. continued on page 4

Pick a snowflake and donate the gift inscribed –wrap the gift and affix the snowflake securely to the outside! (Snowflakes are wishes of a Rehoboth family).
