“Hot Fun In The Summertime”

Official Heritage Festival Program Inside This Issue

By Gina Wesley-Silva In 1969, when R&B music legends Sly and the Family Stone released their hit song “Hot Fun In The Summertime,” it marked the beginning of a personal tradition of mine, which was, and still is, to have as much fun in the summertime as possible. As a kid, that meant hanging out at the park, swinging on swings, seeing cool fireworks on the 4th of July, riding bikes around in the neighborhood, drinking Kool-aid with my friends in my backyard, and raiding the neighbors’ grapevine whenever they weren’t looking. Ah, life was great! Then, as an adult it still meant July 4th st fireworks of course, and hanging out with my friends, but now we went to the beach on weekends, and attended the Heritage Festival. In fact, summer fun became in a large way, going to as many outdoor concerts, and groovin’ to as much live music as I could. And, thanks to the E.P. Parks and Recreation Department it looks like Summer 2011 will continue to offer us kids, younger and older, another great summer all the way around! The fun begins on Thursdays at Rose Larisa Memorial Park, in E. Providence, with ium tad S great outdoor music concerts featuring all l ria types of music. These concerts are free, emo M and are for the whole family to enjoy. Bring ce Pier lawn chairs and blankets. Concerts begin at 6pm, and run for about 90 minutes. In case of inclement weather, or for more information on the concerts, call 401-435-7511. This years’ line up is as follows:
