A Night for Scout
By Bob Rodericks In a community in which the term Townie Pride is often hard to describe, the recent fundraiser for 11 year old Scout Lyons of East Providence is being credited by many with providing a clear and vibrant description of this famous slogan. “Townie Pride is alive and well”, event chairperson Stephanie Vinhateiro would say with a big smile. It was a comment that was echoed throughout the evening by many of the over 700 people in attendance. East Providence High School teacher, Angelo Pizzi, of Cranston, was amazed. “I’m not a Townie and while I’ve always supported Townie Pride, I haven’t experienced it so close. This event has done that for me. I really feel and see the community pride tonight. It’s great”, said Pizzi. The organization called “A Wish Come True”, has also been involved with helping Scout. Earlier this year Scout and her family were treated to a guest appearance on the television set of “Victorious”, in California. An official from ‘A Wish Come True’ also came to the fundraiser at EPHS and posted this message on Facebook the next day: “You all did such a great job on the fundraiser for Scout last night. I have never seen so many people at an event - and I have been to many events. It truly touched my heart to see everyone working together for Scout and her wonderful family. I now know why they say Townie Pride. You all deserve a round of applause!” continued on page 6...
