You have been an important part of this journey with us, making a difference in the community in your own unique ways. My sincere appreciation to you. In the last two years, you have gone through many changes and most of the activities you participated in have transformed greatly – this includes your learning in RP. We made many adjustments in the way we teach, learn, and interact with one another. Staying united as one-RP, you have grown stronger and gotten closer. You went on a journey of self-discovery and made countless transformations to achieve your goals. I’m very proud of you as you have persevered to complete your studies.
YEO LI PHEOW Principal/CEO Republic Polytechnic
Adapting to hybrid learning was not easy but you adapted quickly and also guided your juniors to organise online events and CCA activities creatively. I am also heartened to hear how some of you were sensitive to your classmates who were struggling and encouraged with a helping hand. You learnt to look after one another. I am grateful to you, staff, and alumni who came together, navigating through the new normal to support one another. The world is changing rapidly, but the rigour of Problem-based Learning (PBL) has shaped you to become resourceful, analytical, and an effective communicator and collaborator – skillsets which are highly valued in the workforce. While the polytechnic graduates continue to be in demand, please remember that you should never stop learning and learning should be part of your lifelong journey. I encourage you to explore the various programmes and courses offered by RP Academy for Continuing Education (RP ACE), and stay connected with RP. As RP alumni, you are welcome to engage our Education and Career Guidance counsellors to receive the support you need for your future education and career aspiration. As you embark on the next phase of your life, I urge you to stay connected with the RP family by joining Club Republic and following our social media platforms so that we can continue to celebrate and share your achievements. Please consider yourselves as RP ambassadors and share your positive RP stories with others. I am happy that RP has been part of your transformation journey. On behalf of your lecturers and the RP management team, I wish you the very best for your future endeavours!

SAS OUTSTANDING GRADUATES
As we are nearing graduation, I reflect on the valuable experiences we’ve built and the lessons learnt. My four-year journey in Republic Polytechnic (RP) was tough, but rewarding and unforgettable. It allowed me to develop as an individual and equipped me with in-depth knowledge on Material Science and its industry, along with vital interpersonal skills.
During my three years in RP, the polytechnic’s Problem-based Learning (PBL) approach provided me with a practical and realistic environment of the workplace. It taught me to interact and work in teams with different personalities, both positive and negative, to solve problems. From this experience, I was able to develop my communication skills to enhance cohesion within the team. It also taught me to be independent as a self-directed learner. I was inducted into the Director’s Roll of Honour for four consecutive semesters (AY2019 to AY2020), received the Diploma Prize in AY2020, and the A*STAR Science Award in AY2020 and AY2021. I attribute my academic success to my peers and lecturers who have supported me throughout my RP journey.
In retrospect, I remember applying into RP through the Polytechnic Foundation Programme as RP was offering the diploma that I was interested in. On the first day of school, I was introduced to Problem-based-Learning (PBL) pedagogy. The approach has allowed me to hone my problem-solving and communication skills, which I can apply when faced with practical and realistic issues. Additionally, it has shaped me into a more self-motivated and self-directed learner, and strengthened my presentation skills.
Apart from pursuing academic excellence, my involvement in the Aquatics Interest Group also allowed me to further hone my leadership and organisational skills. As the Team Captain, I was proud to stand alongside my team to represent RP in swimming competitions such as POL-ITE AY2019 where the team achieved the Team-Bronze Award. At the AY2020 Sports Excellence Award Ceremony, I received the Meritorious Silver, Captain of the Year (Male) Merit Award and Team Republic Applause Award (Individual Category). Outside the pool, I was involved in RP Open House 2022 and participated in Maven IG activities where I learnt more about the human body.
Although academic growth and achievements are important, RP also emphasises on non-academic skills and holistic growth. As the Head of Logistics of the Archery Interest Group (AIG), I was given the opportunity to work with student leaders in AIG to plan events such as recruitment drives and online orientations. I represented RP in the WorldSkills Singapore National Competition 2021 (Chemical Laboratory Technology Skill Area) and received the Bronze Award. The intense and eye-opening experience taught me to be more confident in my laboratory skills.

My sincere gratitude goes out to the lecturers for their devotion and assistance in facilitating my learning, the friends that I have made and helped in making lessons fun, and my family for their unwavering support and encouragement. I am also appreciative to RP for giving me opportunities to gain valuable skills, experience and knowledge.
In all, RP has provided me with the necessary skills, knowledge, experience and attitude for the workforce. I am eternally grateful to my mentor, Dr Esther Chng, lecturers, friends and family for the continuous support with which I was showered throughout my RP journey.

Dear SEG’s Graduating Class of 2022, Today marks a new chapter of your life as a graduating polytechnic student. My heartiest congratulations to all of you for reaching this important milestone! I am confident that the three years you have spent in Republic Polytechnic School of Engineering have prepared you well to be resourceful and adaptable individuals with the head-start needed to contribute your engineering knowledge and skills to both Singapore and the global economy. You have achieved a lot in the past three years, both in academic and non-academic areas. Many of you have brought great honour to RP by winning awards and medals in national and international competitions, such as WorldSkills Singapore, the Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award and the International Building Design Competition. However, your future jobs will evolve rapidly in tandem with technological advancements. Hence, it is important that you embrace lifelong learning. I welcome you to return to RP to pursue Continuing Education & Training courses to deepen or broaden your skills, as well as to build a strong network to support the growth of your career. Besides gaining academic knowledge and technical skills, you have also forged great friendships and built a strong network of contacts. These are important takeaways that will stay with you for a long time to come. COVID-19 is an unprecedented event of our generation and you have adapted to the pandemic well, staying resilient to graduate successfully. The strong engineering foundation that you have gained will enable you to remain versatile and employable during uncertain times. You should also be flexible to apply your skills and knowledge to adjacent industry sectors, as well as to serve the community, just like what many of you have done in our Engineering in Community projects. Do continue to empathise with others and help those in need. On behalf of SEG, I welcome all of you to the RP and SEG alumni family. I wish you success in your future endeavours and look forward to your contributions as our alumni and ambassador.

At RP, I am thankful to be acquainted with great people who have guided and supported me during my three years of learning.
RP has taught me that the journey towards one’s goal is not about waiting for opportunities to come, and it is not about putting a halt to your aspirations when you fall. It is about learning how to build a door if the opportunities do not come knocking, picking yourself back up where you fall, and always working towards your goal.
Through RP’s Problem-based Learning (PBL) approach, I have been equipped with essential soft skills, such as leadership, critical thinking and selfdirectedness. In addition, RP has provided opportunities for me to apply my skills through competitions. I represented the School of Engineering (SEG) to compete in WorldSkills Singapore 2021, in the Digital Construction skills area, achieving a silver medal. For my Final Year Project, my team and I took part in the International Building Design Competition (iBDC) 2021, where skills identified under the Industry Transformation Map for the Built Environment Sector came in useful, and clinched us first place.
RP’s Problem-based Learning (PBL) pedagogy has helped me to develop effective communication skills and positively influenced my critical thinking skills. These have shaped me to be more efficient and self-reliant as a Peer Support Leader in the School of Engineering (SEG), as well as during my internship with a multinational company. Beyond academics, RP also emphasises on non-academic pursuits. During my three years, I volunteered in service learnings such as Local Service-Learning Projects (LSLP) and Make a Difference, and obtained a Service-Learning Leader Award in 2021. I participated in conferences like Youth Model ASEAN Conference (YMAC) which taught me how traits like gratitude and forgiveness could be used to strengthen our regional bonds. I was also honoured to have received the REPUBLIC Award in 2020.
In these three years, I also received two scholarships in 2020 and 2021, two module prize awards in 2020 and the Director’s Roll of Honour for five consecutive semesters from 2019 to 2021. Beyond RP’s classroom, I was appointed as the Dance Captain for my Interest Group (IG) in 2020. I led the dance team in practices and performances in various school events, such as the Colourpop Run in 2019 and RP’s Open House in 2020. I would like to wish everyone in my cohort a blessed and fulfilling future.

Dear Graduates, My heartiest congratulations to each one of you for completing the polytechnic chapter of your academic journey, which culminated in Graduation Ceremony 2021. For most male graduates, your next lap will be National Service. For the female graduates, yours may be to the workforce or the pursuit of further studies. Whatever route you may take, I would like to leave you some food for thought to sustain you through uncertain times or stressful moments. • Armed with a Plan – In Sports Psychology, we talk about goal-setting plans. What it means is that you have a clear plan of how you intend to reach your goal. Specific and clear goals with a realistic timeline will lead you to greater output and better performance, which in turn will give you a sense of pride and triumph. Thereafter, it propels you forward to seek out your next immediate goal. The small steps of success that you achieve along the way will surely go a long way in building your self-esteem and self-confidence, especially when dealing with setbacks along the way. • Armed with the Ability to View Life in Perspective – I recall listening to 93.8FM deejay Eugene Loh’s frequently articulated statement: “If you change your perspective, you will change in life.” Upon reflection, I realised the deep wisdom that comes with this phrase. Too often, we are caught up with our daily lives, only to lose sight of what is really important to us. This is especially true at your age where you perceive the world to be your oyster and you are busy accumulating material gains – an indication to your peers that you have “arrived”. It would be all too easy if everything goes smoothly in life. However, life was never meant to be a bed of roses. Above all things, it is through trials and tribulations that you will perceive the fragility of life, which in turn warms your heart to cherish life and all it has to offer. • Armed with an Attitude of Gratitude – When life gets hectic and you begin to feel overwhelmed, take a moment to focus on the people and things that you are grateful for in life. When you are grateful, one of the impacts on yourself is a positive emotional state, which in turn energises your overall emotional wellbeing and helps maintains a positive outlook. Inevitably, the people around you will be influenced by your little acts of gratitude and change for the better. In your three years with the School of Sports, Health and Leisure (SHL), we have worked hard together and have shared much joy and laughter. Together with your lecturers, we have prepared you to the best of our ability and equipped you with relevant skillsets for the workplace. We have confidence that each one of you will become good ambassadors for RP as well as SHL.
47
On behalf of SHL, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours and look forward to your contribution as our alumni henceforth.

I would like to thank RP for my all-rounded education.
When I started my first semester in RP, I was rather lost because everything was new to me. Whether it was understanding the concept of Problem-based Learning (PBL), or taking judo as my CCA, nothing seemed to be going smoothly. Fortunately, I did not give up. Through my time in RP, PBL has instilled in me a new method for dealing with issues, by seeing things in a more holistic manner. This mentality has helped me to retain my motivation to do well in my course, by observing how the various modules come together in training us to be wellequipped healthcare professionals.
During my academic years with RP, I was given many opportunities to contribute back to society as well as to pick up new skills to improve myself as an individual. This included representing RP in Swing Singapore Challenge 2019, where not only was I able to showcase my creative skills, but I was also able to learn new leadership and communication skills from my mentor, Mr James, from Made of Brilliance, and my team.
I am truly humbled by the awards and prizes I have attained in my time at RP. Certainly, these aren’t meant to be self-glorifying, but serves as a reminder of how I have benefitted from my lecturers’ meticulous supervision and the support of my friends. As a young individual stepping out into the working world, RP has shown me that there’s nothing too great that can’t be overcome with a resilient mentality and receptivity to constructive criticism. These three years in RP have instilled in me a keen perspective, coupled with relevant skills that are integral to fulfilling my aspirations!
Apart from representing the school, I also had opportunities to be a student volunteer as part of our Health Promotion and Inclusive Physical Activity modules. I had the chance to create a Health Educational game for the students of Association for Person with Special Needs (APSN) Tanglin School, and the chance to promote inclusivity in physical activity to the public during Inclusive Sports Festival. Crucially, RP helped me in finding and exploring my career interest in allied health through an internship with Singapore Heart Foundation as a Therapist Assistant. This experience certainly helped me to gain new insight and knowledge in the allied health industry.

Director School of Management and Communication
To the SMC Graduating Class of 2022, Let me first congratulate all of you on this special day. The journey the last three years has not been an easy one due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I know there were many challenges from going HBL and that some of you faced challenges at home too. I would urge you all to give yourselves a pat on your back; as you have demonstrated tremendous resilience and strength. I am certain each and every one of you will never forget the last three years of mask donning, safe distancing and other safe management measures. Today, you begin a new chapter in your life as you move on to fulfil your dreams and aspirations; be it through entering the workforce or going on to university. Whichever path you choose, remember we will always be here to welcome you back as our alumni or to continue your learning journey. I just want to share some thoughts with you here today. EMBRACE CHANGE We all know it is a different world out there today; very different from the one when you started your journey with RP. The world has changed and so have you. Make the most of it. The pandemic has made you adaptable and flexible, and many of you have had to think out of the box and change the way you used to do things. Whichever diploma you have done, these skill-sets will form the backbone of the path that you choose. As the pandemic has shown us, change is the only constant in this world. CAREER CHOICE As the world has changed, so have the different careers in the world. You may have come to RP with a set career choice in mind. However, in the changing landscape, that job may not exist anymore. But do not fret, always remember that the curriculum here has prepared you with skills that can adapt to many other jobs. If you have always wanted to be a journalist or writer, why not start with writing for digital platforms. More and more writing jobs are becoming platform agnostic. So are many other jobs. Have an open mind and you will be surprised at the opportunities out there; grab them. PAVE YOUR OWN PATH Each one of you is an individual with your own mind and passion. You do not have to do what everyone else is doing. Go with your passion and it will bear fruit for you. As I look back on my own personal journey, I am often amazed at the different paths and experiences that I personally went through to find my inner calling; one that truly motivates me as an educator today. LIFE IS NEVER A BED OF ROSES Trust me as you leave Republic Polytechnic today and chart your future forward, sometimes things may not go your way or life may throw you a curve ball. Do not give up, persevere and you will get there. That is the circle of life. Always remember that and never give up. NO MAN IS AN ISLAND You all have demonstrated teamwork, and even the lone rangers among you have been working in teams at RP over the last three years. I am sure it was not always smooth sailing but you all had a common objective: to complete the team assignments. I am sure there were times there was unhappiness or small squabbles within the teams. However, by the end, you all came together and collaborated. Teamwork is imperative to both team and individual success, be it at work or higher education. Do take this skill with you as your soar higher. PAY IT FORWARD Always remember how very fortunate we are in this society and remember to pay it forward. Pursuit of excellence in work and education is not wrong. I sincerely want you all to move up the ladder and reach the highest echelons of work and education. However, always remember to have a care for those left behind. This is not new to you. Many of you have given back to society during your inservice learning. Do continue and you will find true happiness and satisfaction. Remember, a little deed goes a long way. Personally, I tell myself to try and do one good deed a day. Last but not least, stay in touch with us! Share your successes and experiences with your juniors as you are now their role models. I look forward to hearing all your exciting and interesting experiences as you embark on this new adventure.

Back in 2019, I was among those scrambling to memorise scripts just before presentations and receiving the “please speak up” comments. Three years down the road, RP’s Problem-based Learning pedagogy has taught me to be continuously self-reflective, curious and daring.
I am grateful for the opportunities that RP has provided me with. Not only was I given the opportunity to lead the publicity team for Freshmen Orientation Programme 2020, I also had the chance to represent my school during Open House 2020.
Beyond the walls of the classroom, RP inculcates a holistic mindset for growing in areas of leadership, volunteerism, and entrepreneurship. This contributes towards a well-balanced school life that prepares us for the real world.
At RP, I was able to push myself to greater heights – achieving the REPUBLIC Award 2019 and receiving first place for a qualitative research project with industry partner, Nielsen.
I was privileged to join the Student Council Executive Committee and partake in programmes such as Harvard Business School Club of Singapore Mentorship Programme, National Youth Achievement Award (Gold) and Youth Corps Leaders’ Programme. Such exposures allowed me to learn with people from all walks of life and pay-it-forward to my school and community. Seeing smiles on faces gave us affirmation to continue serving and leading!
RP has contributed to my educational journey by equipping me with knowledge that is highly relevant and valued in the industry. Furthermore, I was also given many opportunities to connect with key individuals through the Industry Immersion Programme as well as various networking platforms. I enjoyed RP’s Problem-based Learning (PBL) approach because it constantly challenged me to think out of the box and collaborate with people from all walks of life. Because of RP’s PBL, I was able to solve problems, as well as learn how to work as a team.
Participating in competitions like iDARE Challenge opened new doors for me to explore entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneurial Immersion Programme was a rewarding experience in unlearning and relearning through failure while embarking on my own tech startup – Job Beacon.
As I progress to the next stage in life, I would like to thank RP, my lecturers, my mentor, my family and friends for their help and support.
I am grateful for the unwavering support and opportunities my mentors and lecturers provided me throughout my journey. Congratulations to the graduating 2022 cohort and as the name ‘iDARE’ suggests, be daring in your future endeavours!

Dear Graduating Class of 2022, On behalf of the School of Hospitality (SOH) family, I would like to extend my heartiest congratulations to each and every one of you! Every end is a new beginning. You have done exceptionally well in school and I am confident you will continue the good work. Hospitality is one of the most dynamic sectors in this modern economy, providing not only jobs but also a wide range of opportunities. To equip our graduates with relevant skillsets to thrive in an ever-changing industry, we constantly refresh and add to the resources in our continuing education space. These skills and knowledge are accessible to you, whenever you need it. Technology has disrupted and changed the nature of work. Job roles are evolving constantly and new skillsets are critical to unlock a world of opportunities. Therefore, it is important for you to embrace learning as part of life, and not just learning for work only. I would also like to take this opportunity to share a quote by Brian Herbert, an American author: “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” When making choices, always ensure that they are aligned and congruent with your goals. In the coming years, I hope you will continue to stay in touch with your RP lecturers. Do keep us updated on your achievements and experiences as you progress in your career as well as personal life. Congratulations once again, the SOH faculty is very proud of you.

Throughout my journey in RP, I have grown and developed myself in ways that I did not expect.
My time at RP has been a journey of personal growth and development. As an introvert, I have always felt apprehensive of speaking in front of large crowds and breaking out of my comfort zone. However, while in RP, I had the opportunity to represent the school in the 2021 STR Global Market Study Competition, where we emerged as champions! I also acquired leadership skills through my role as Vice-President of the Student Council, and did countless presentations with Problem-based Learning. All these have contributed towards my gradual character development and built my confidence as a person.
As Overall-in-Charge for service-learning initiatives including Touch of Joy with Care Corner and Project CompassioNATION, I have had the opportunities to work with and help people from all walks of life while honing my leadership and management skills. I also learnt to lead and develop the next batch of service learners. As an introvert, I have always been hesitant when it comes to presentations. However, the learning format in RP has stretched my critical thinking skills, and I gained the confidence to speak up in class. Through this, I discovered my love for leading, guiding and nurturing my teammates to the next level. This prompted me to join the Academic Peer Programme as an Academic Peer Tutor to coach SOH juniors in modules such as Microeconomics.
During my time in the Student Council, I led my team in two important projects – Inclusion Project and Project Share-a-Smile. I was also involved with the Defining Interest Group (IG) and performed song signings for the hearing impaired. These projects and performances made me understand the importance of harmony, compassion and gratitude more deeply. My journey in RP would not have been possible without my close friends, my best friend Natasha, my family and lecturers. Special thanks to Mr Darren Tan, Mr Al Thair Muchtar, and Ms Jasmine Choo for providing me with constant support and guidance.
Lastly, I would like to thank my family, peers, and the lovely lecturers from the SOH Diploma in Customer Experience Management with Business (DCXB) faculty who have supported and nurtured me throughout my RP journey. I would also like to give a shout-out to Ms Mandy Low for her faith and never-ending support to push me to be the best version of myself. Thank you RP and DCXB for this chapter of my life.
Lastly, hats off to those in the graduating class of 2022. Here’s to celebrating this wonderful achievement together. Happy graduating and Peace Out!

SOI OUTSTANDING GRADUATES
Thanks to RP’s Diploma in Information Technology programme, I have finally found my passion for IT and discovered what I want for my future.
Has it really been three years? I’m sure all of us can still fondly remember many of the precious memories we’ve gained since Year 1. From meeting up with friends at the Lawn to finishing our Reflection Journals just before 2359hrs, there have been just so many memorable moments.
Through RP’s Problem-based Learning methodology, I have been equipped with valuable problem-solving skills. This greatly benefited me during my internship as I was able to respond quickly to issues and I am confident that it will also help me later on in my working life. Lecturers here are genuinely understanding and patient. They go the extra mile to help students in need to overcome challenges they face in their studies. I am very grateful to them.
I remember running the Freshmen Orientation Program as a VP in the SOI Club, and having a blast with friends while doing so. I also made great memories in the Tabletop Games Club, setting up chess tournaments and introducing people to board games. It culminated in me receiving the REPUBLIC Award and RP Service Excellence Awards. I am greatly thankful to the advisors who nominated me for them.
Many of the highlights of my time in RP have been with the SOI Club. Through this Club, I was able to enjoy study sessions with SOI alumni, as well as bonding sessions as a Peer Support Leader during the Year 1 Orientation programme.
The lecturers in RP were some of the most inspiring people I’ve met. Through their guidance, I got the opportunity to join competitions, make friends in my C200 group, and even win a Lee Hsien Loong Smart Nation Award.
SOI Club has given me opportunities to hone my leadership skills in areas such as people and event management. The soft skills that I have learned will definitely come to good use when I join the IT industry.
Even though it is sad that my time at RP has come to an end, this marks the beginning of a new chapter in our lives, so stay resilient everyone!
RP has prepared me well, and I am ready to embark on my life journey confidently. I am a proud student of RP!

Three years ago, we walked into RP as freshmen not knowing what lay ahead.
The ability to create content in this digital age is a great gift. No matter the platform or medium, the stories we tell can be creative, impactful, empowering and a catalyst for the changes we wish to see in the world. Through RP’s boundless learning opportunities, I was able to pursue my passions in content creation.
In the blink of an eye, we are now leaving RP as graduates with our diploma! RP’s Problem-based Learning approach has assisted me in honing the skillsets and knowledge needed to navigate the working world, whilst also remaining industry-ready.
By simulating real-world challenges in assignments, my relentlessly supportive lecturers in the Diploma in Media Production and Design not only honed my technical skills, but also moulded me into a resourceful and resilient team-player who is unafraid to explore unconventional solutions.
RP has also given me the privilege to be part of a compassionate family. Together with the wonderful members of STA Club, I enjoyed a very vibrant polytechnic life. During my time, I managed events such as Halloween Camp 2019 and Freshman Orientation Programme 2021. The memories of executing these events with my club members and forging friendships with participants is something that will remain close to me.
In PhotoRepublic, I was the photographer for several events including IGNITE! 2019, StyleGroovazCrew’s Emergence 2019, BeatsEncore’s Resonance 2020 and Open House 2020. In Write IG, I wrote two articles for The Republican Post. I also designed graphics for my school’s social media.
RP encouraged me to reach my full potential as I achieved the Director’s Roll of Honour, Outstanding Student Award 2020, Republic Award 2020, and RP Scholarship 2021.
Along the journey, I have received multiple awards, including the Lee Foundation Scholarship, Rose Marie Khoo Foundation Scholarship, Director’s Roll of Honour (3x), STA Award and Youth Corps Leaders Programme Certificate.
Our three years have been a roller-coaster ride filled with emotions, reflection journals, presentations, quizzes and exams. Today we have finally reached the end, with many fulfilling and meaningful memories to show for it.
As my story in RP comes to an end, I am eternally grateful to the staff and fellow students who have created an environment of holistic growth, cherished moments and lasting friendships.
RP has given me much, but the most valuable are the lecturers who have continuously supported me, and the friends-for-life that I have made.

To honour and celebrate the contributions of our alumni, RP has constructed the Alumni Family Tree. It is located at the Mound, next to the driveway at Republic Polytechnic Centre (RPC). The Mound’s peak represents our alumni’s aspirations to reach for greater heights. At its prominent position at the polytechnic’s entrance, it is visible from all levels within RPC, thus serving as a reminder for students to achieve their best. The Alumni Family Tree was officially launched by the RP Board of Governors on 4 May 2015. It symbolises RP’s growing alumni Family – firmly rooted in the values of RP, resplendently branching outwards to new challenges and aspirations. Every leaf represents a cohort of graduates embodying the moral values and strong affiliations forged during their time of learning, friendship and life in RP. From the Class of 2006 to the Class of 2022, RP is proud of you.
