The story of the Mayflower Pilgrims and the Native Wampanoag nation is told in colorful detail at Plimoth Patuxet Museums, Pilgrim Hall, and numerous historic houses. Plimoth Patuxet Museums includes a re-creation of the Pilgrims’ English settlement in the early 1620s, the historic Patuxet settlement, and in-

In Downtown Plymouth you will find a reproduction 1636–era working Grist Mill, a replica of the ship Mayflower in Plymouth Bay as well as the nation’s oldest public museum, Pilgrim Hall. A variety of free and guided walking tours are available on these quaint streets. Dining and shopping are located around every corner, while walking the waterfront or strolling the sidewalks of Main Street. The advantages of
RV TRAVEL I
ndividuals who are approaching retirement or those who already have said goodbye to the working world may find they are ready to make some life changes. Travel is something many older adults enjoy when they have much more free time to see the sights. There have been more RVs on the road in recent years, and there are now more facilities to accommodate them. RVIA says there are now roughly 18,000 campgrounds around the country, and certain facilities are pushing to improve and upgrade campgrounds in national parks and on federal lands.
INDIVIDUALS CONSIDERING IF THE RV LIFESTYLE IS FOR THEM CAN REFER TO THIS LIST OF RVING BENEFITS. · INEXPENSIVE TRAVEL (OR LIVING)
EXPLORE HUNDREDS of MILES of BACK COUNTRY TRAILS
RVers may be attracted by the idea of low-cost travel that doesn’t involve hotels and airfare and greatly reduces their reliance on restaurants while traveling. RVs can be rented for roughly $100 to $500 per day, and RV parks usually run between $35 and $50 per night, according to Allianz Travel Insurance. To keep the costs down even more, certain truck stops, big box retailers, churches, hotels, movie theaters, casinos, rest stops and other roadside locations will allow free overnight parking. Just verify before staying to avoid being ticketed.

& countless other hidden gems.
· FREEDOM TO COME AND GO 3157666-01
®NYSDED
When traveling in an RV, there are no set checkin-/check-out times to
follow or boarding times to meet. RV travel can be strictly on your schedule.
· PLENTY OF HELP
Others who have embraced the RV lifestyle tend to be very friendly and ready to make new acquaintances at campgrounds and other stops. Those with more experience may be willing to share their expertise and pitch in to offer tips for better excursions.
· CREATURE COMFORTS
People who vacation or choose to live in their RVs tend to keep familiar items and essentials on hand. Those can include preferred linens, clothing, toiletries, books, games, and more. When taking such items along, there’s no need to pack and unpack much for any trip.
· FOLLOW THE WEATHER
If desired, RVers can pick up and follow the jet stream. If 70-degree days are your thing, then follow those temperatures coast-to-coast. If you like skiing or snowboarding, you can head to colder climates.
· DOWNSIZE
The RVIA says that RVs are available across a wide range of price points. So if the idea is to trade in a stationary house for an RV, you may be able to do so for as little as $6,000 to as much as $500,000.
The RV lifestyle may attract soon-to-be retirees. There are various advantages to getting on board.

Additionally, says Berger, “Ulster is home to some of the best fly fishing in the United States.” Fall wouldn’t be complete without the barrage of apple and pumpkin scents, flavored beverages or treats, and Halloween prep; so no trip to Ulster would be complete without visiting one of the area’s local farms. “Pluck the freshest fruits for pie making, pumpkins for carving, veggies for feasting. Most farms also offer family friendly activities, craft beer, live music, and food,” says Berger, who adds that Ulster County has “U-Pick farms galore.” Moreover, for visitors seeking Halloween fun, look no further than Headless Horseman Haunted Attractions, which was named the “No. 1 Haunted Attraction in America”. Adds Berger, there is a “new theme each season. Ten attractions, four gift shops and four food cafes.” While reservations for Headless Horseman Haunted Attractions, which is open to ages 13 and up, is not required, they are strongly recommended. For those who choose to embrace Ulster’s “scenic glory” from the comfort of the great indoors will enjoy the variety of restaurants, wineries, breweries, distilleries and cideries. “Feast on fresh fall flavors,” says Berger. Ulster County boasts “exceptional cuisine and renowned chefs; be sure to
bring your appetite and experience a true farm-to-table meal.” In addition to the wineries, breweries, distilleries and cideries, some of which offer tours and live music, Ulster also has numerous maple sugar farms, a great fit the whole family. For those who prefer to shop until they drop; Berger shares, “Our quaint downtowns are ripe with unique boutiques stock full of handcrafted jewelry, pottery, furniture, clothing, recreational equipment.” In terms of lodging, Ulster County features a diverse array of accommodations ranging from “all-inclusive dude ranches”, where guests can relax and learn “the basics of cowboy horsemanship” to indulgent and luxurious stays at high-end resorts and spas. “Set against the scenic beauty of the Hudson River Valley, Catskills, and historic Gunks,’” Berger says these resorts and spas are “the perfect romantic getaway.” Of Ulster County, Berger says, “Nowhere else can you travel the width and breadth of a 750,000-acre playground – through diverse arts and culture, world-class accommodations and the rugged outdoors.” Ultimately, she concludes, “Ulster County is an indoor/outdoor playground of scenic glory and winding trails, award-winning vineyards/ breweries/distilleries and celebrations.” As Ulster County’s motto suggests, all that’s left for prospective visitors to do is “Come Seek for Yourself ”.

For the 21 and over crowd, Saratoga has a variety of wineries, breweries and distilleries throughout the area including The Saratoga Winery, which Bellantoni says “is a popular destination for locals and tourists, with a tasting room offering handcrafted wine and local beer, as well as wood-fired pizzas and live music on the weekends.” Music lovers can also get their melodious fix from Caffe Lena— which “is widely recognized as the longest continuously operating folk music venue in the country.” With history being a through line for many of Saratoga’s pastimes, The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame is no different. Says Bellantoni, the museum, “shares the history of thoroughbred racing in America and honors the sport’s most accomplished participants.” Fall and Halloween go hand in hand, and in Saratoga the options and scares are endless. For those wanting a more casual dining experience, Bellantoni recommends, “Dizzy Chicken Wood Fired Rotisserie— a more casual setting for those who like their BBQ with a twist, and Comfort Kitchen— Saratoga’s favorite lunch spot, serving all the comfort foods you crave, made with local and seasonal ingredients.” With its rich history and wide array of activities, attractions and events, Saratoga Springs, NY is a great escape to jumpstart the Fall season. SPECIAL TO THE REPUBLICAN
Come snow season, there is more to do than ski at Smugglers’ Notch Resort in Jeffersonville, Vermont. Try snowshoeing, tubing, cross-country skiing, swimming, Fun Zone 2.0 or ice skating. How about Cat Trax rides, a snowcat equipped with an 8 person carrier, that takes you to the top of the mountain for a better view of the fireworks on Thursday nights? In fact, there is so much to do that does not include skiing, “Smuggs” — as the resort is known — offers a Winter Experience Package for those
who don’t want to ski. “Smugglers’ Notch Resort is called ‘America’s Family Resort’ because we focus on the entire family experience and creating memories that will last a lifetime,” said Stephanie Gorin, Communications Director. “So much of what we offer involves activities that have families working together as a team or playing together.” The resort has been named the #1 Family Resort in Ski Magazine in the readers’ choice award for 20-years running, she added. For those who want to ski, Smuggs has 78 trails, eight lifts, the highest vertical
drop in Northern Vermont at 2,610 feet and more than 300 inches of natural snow annually. There are multiple terrain parks and 1,000 acres of skiing and riding. For those staying at the resort, it’s a wide- open space, and they don’t have to drive to get to the lifts; the mountain is right outside their door and there are resort wide “on demand” shuttle services. Weather permitting, lift service begins the day after Thanksgiving and continues through mid-April. A day pass is $84 for adults and $68 for youth. Packages complete with lodging, amenities, activities, and entertainment are
available. Guests at Smugglers’ Notch come from throughout the world as it hosts national, international and local guests regularly. “The Boston metro area is one of the larger contributors to our guest base,” Gorin said. “Guests come from all over to enjoy mountainside lodging and a wide array of activities.” And after dark, night life lights up at Smuggs. Among the offerings are glow tubing, Bingo, Family Feud, nightly hot chocolate by the bonfire and fireworks every Thursday night. There’s a Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop for those who want ice cream after dinner at
