Selling a product is no longer enough, even at a competitive price; the real value is in tying together what you have to offer and wrapping that offering around the customer. In other words, what you offer surrounding and supplementing the actual product is what really matters. A case in point is smartphones, the compelling value proposition of which lies in its apps. Similarly, it is the screen size or business applications for a tablet.

Another important factor is the need for speed, which matters more than ever now. Speed that shaves off hours or days or weeks off the process of selling and delivering products and services. Whether it is from inquiry to order, or order to delivery, or from a customer search to getting results – everything is about instant gratification.

Partners should invest time and efforts to understand these trends better and develop a strategy to enhance the value in products or services they offer, and improve time to market. One way to differentiate your business from the competition is to go the extra mile and add implementation and demo services around your offerings. Think about this: What services does your customer appreciate? What is lacking now? The focus then should be on increasing that value, which will strengthen your relationship with customer and pay rich dividends.

Moto X The latest launch from Motorola is an Android-based smartphone Moto X. The 4.7-inch AMOLED Gorilla glass display is comfortable to use single-handedly and is designed with a water repellant coating.

Aiming to make customers’ lives simpler, Moto X through its ‘OK Google Now’ feature allows users to get directions while driving, set alarm or find out the weather without touching the screen.

Could you elaborate on HP’s plans for printers in the region?

Since the introduction of the first HP LaserJet and HP Inkjet printer in 1984, we have been the market leader for printing. In this region we are also the clear market leader – according to IDC we sell more printers than all other vendors combined.

Our plan is clearly to expand our share even further, particularly with our range of OfficeJet printers and our mid and high-end laser printers.

Our recent product introductions are all fitting those objectives.

HP OfficeJet printers drastically reduce the printing costs for our customers, and have huge environmental benefits compared to laser printers.

Recently we have dramatically improved this technology with our new OfficeJet X-Series, which features unique HP PageWide Technology, which means that the print head doesn’t have to move anymore, only the paper moves in this printer. These OfficeJet X-Series are the fastest desktop colour printers in the world. HP Flow MFP technology, available with laser and inkjet, gives large and

corporate customers clear benefits in managing their workflows. The combination of high performance print technology, with high performance scan technology in one device is unique in this market.

What kind of evolution has this space witnessed over the years?

Hewlett-Packard has evolved laser and inkjet printing technology over the years in various directions. On the one hand, we have evolved by reducing printing costs, energy consumption and environmental impact from a core technology perspective.OfficeJet Pro printers offer half of the printing costs compared to laser printers in the same range, and our high-end laser printers also drastically reduce printing costs by increasing the yield per cartridge up to 40.000 pages in some models.

On the other hand by adding and improving a broad range of security and manageability features, we have evolved with the market. For example, HP FutureSmart firmware, which offers one consistent firmware for all our enterprise laser printers, with easy upgradeability to new features, such as the free upgrade to scan preview and HP WebJet Admin, the leading print fleet management software.

What is the value-addition laser printers bring to business operations? What are the advantages over inkjet ones?

Hewlett-Packard invests heavily in both Inkjet and laser technology, as both technologies have clear advantages. On the one hand, Inkjet technology clearly offers drastically lower printing costs of around 50 percent, and offers dramatically lower environmental impact, because this technology consumes up to 90 percent less energy, and generates up to 90 percent less waste. management of inkjet printers is easier, as there are only small ink cartridges to be replaced. On the other hand for A3 size printing at higher volumes, laser is the leading technology. Also the output of inkjet printers and laser printers is a little bit different. Inkjet printing offers outstanding print quality for office use, but if a customer wants a more glossy output, laser is the technology of choice.

Could you discuss the various products you have within this category?

Hewlett-Packard offers the broadest portfolio of printers in the market. For personal home and home office use, we have our range of HP DeskJet Ink Advantage printers and HP LaserJet 100/200 series. For small business up to corporate and global customers, we offer a broad range of inkjet and laser printers. HP OfficeJet Pro 6800, 7000 and 8600 series offer outstanding performance and low operating costs in A4 and A3 size for small offices. We offer a wide range of printers for small to corporate customers. To make it easy we have grouped them by model series. LaserJet and OfficeJet Pro X 300/400 series are A4 devices in mono or colour for small work teams of typically 2 to 10 users. LaserJet and OfficeJet Enterprise X 500 series are A4 devices in mono or colour for workgroups of typically up to 15 users, they offer Flow MFP technology in selected models. LaserJet 600 series are A4 devices for workgroups up to 25 users, with high paper capacity features, and Flow MFP in selected models. LaserJet 700 series offer the same, with A3 paper capacity.

HP LaserJet 800 series are central office devices for big workgroups, they offer A3 and A4 capacity, large paper input and output trays and finishers, and Flow MFP technology on most models.

How important is market feedback for HP? As Hewlett-Packard is further expanding the market share, it’s obviously important to closely follow market trends and feedback. Based on this feedback, we adapt to local markets. That’s the reason why we have some models in our local offering which are not available in other parts of the world. You can think of our HP DeskJet Ink Advantage offering, but also the HP LaserJet M435 MFP, which offers break through pricing for an A3 Mono laser MFP.

What are some of the market trends in this space? Are there any region-specific trends?

We are experiencing that more corporate customers in our region are now interested in outsourcing their printing fleet to concentrate on their core business. This means they request our partners and us to manage their printing environment. For this reason HP is stepping up the focus and programs for Managed Print Services.

We work closely with partners who specialise in this business. This business offers a huge services opportunity for those partners, which we build together with those partners.

Could you discuss HP›s differentiators in this space?

Hewlett-Packard has a broad range of differentiators, both from a technology and a business perspective.

On the technology front, we have already discussed.

From a business perspective, we can offer our partners and customers the best support, because we have the largest installed base and market shares, which gives us the bandwidth to allocate sufficient resources and programs.

However, there are some disruptive innovations such as 3D printing, interactive printing, cloud printing and Managed Print Services (MPS), which take the industry from a vanilla, box-moving business towards a high-margin, service-oriented business model. The sector has been currently riding on growth, thanks to customized and interactive printing such as QR Codes, and print on demand trends in the recent past. The customized mass production terminology is taking shape in schools and colleges and are bound to grow further in the near future. The business therefore is a thriving one, settling easily in the digital world. This has come as a respite to the printer industry where both digitization and printing exist simultaneously and continue to grow together.

The increasing usage of printing in captive and corporate industry brings out the fresh possibilities of conducive business environment in the market. Today, we see printers as an integral part of households and schools.
