Bringing UC to the SMB
13 SIEMENS: Bringing UC to the SMB
from the director: Dear Partner
W
e all need to optimize and innovate our business model to ensure growth and long term sustainability of our organizations. While doing this, some fundamental questions need to be answered. One such question could be to ask about prospective competitors for the business. We are all aware of our existing competition, but there may be a
potential competitor who could evolve from a different market or industry and take the market and the business by surprise. The key enabler for this to happen is technology. Technology is making boundaries between industries more porous and providing opportunities for businesses to enter different industries. For example, Telecom providers have become a medium for selling music besides the traditional CD’s. Similar opportunities may exist across
industries and it takes one idea for an organization to enter a new business. Please write to me at valueplus@ redingtongulf.com to share your views on how organizations can utilize technology to identify new business opportunities. Your Sincerely

HP FlexFabric The industry’s most complete softwaredefined networks fabric.
S
imple, scalable and automated – data centre networks are reaching a breaking point. Cloud, virtualisation, mobility, and big data are placing unprecedented demands on the data center and accelerating the evolution of new application architectures. What is needed is a new solution that reduces network complexity, improves application performance and scale, and increases network and business agility. This is precisely what HP is delivering with the biggest and most comprehensive data center networking announcement in our history. We are announcing the future of data center networking—HP FlexFabric—the industry’s most complete software-defined data centre network fabric.
HP FlexFabric HP FlexFabric redefines how customers architect and implement
data centre network fabrics. The open, standards-based approach of HP FlexFabric delivers three important customer benefits: • Reduces operational complexity up to 75 percent compared to legacy solutions. • Delivers two times the scale of the leading competitor. • Accelerates application deployment—cutting provisioning time from months to minutes. HP FlexFabric is focused on reducing complexity in the data centre by leveraging a number of different technologies and services. HP Intelligent Resilient Fabric (IRF) HP FlexFabric allows data centre operators to simplify large-scale fabric design and operations by interconnecting multiple core or access layer switches—and managing these devices using a single IP address. New innovations to HP IRF increase network resiliency, performance, and availability, while reducing operational complexity. In fact, HP FlexFabric with IRF can deliver up to double the fabric scaling of existing solutions, while reducing operational complexity by up to 75 percent. For those organisations with multiple data centres, HP’s Ethernet Virtual Interconnect (EVI) provides Layer 2 VLAN extensions between data centres. This encapsulation and routing technology simplifies the process
of extending geographically dispersed data centres. In addition, when used in conjunction with IRF, these links are load balanced, and Multitenant Device Context ensures true multi-tenancy across multiple data centres. New HP FlexFabric innovations simplify the data centre access layer by unifying the management of virtual and physical fabrics with the new HP FlexFabric Virtual Switch

Hot-Swappable UPS Systems
ELIMINATE DOWNTIME You wouldn’t buy a blade server or network switch that requires a lengthy service outage and costly repair specialist to replace a power supply. Why should your UPS system be any different? Unlike traditional UPS systems, Tripp Lite’s SmartOnline® Hot Swappable UPS Systems can be serviced by almost anyone without requiring any downtime.
ASK THE UPS EXPERT How does a hot-swappable UPS system work? Most network-grade UPS systems have hot-swappable batteries, but SmartOnline Hot-Swappable UPS Systems also have hot-swappable power modules and a detachable bypass PDU. The bypass PDU houses all the AC input and output connections. When you turn the bypass switch, you can remove the power module without disrupting the operation of connected equipment, making it a true Uninterruptible Power Supply. The detachable bypass PDU is a feature exclusive to Tripp Lite.
Why do I need a hot-swappable UPS? If you want to avoid downtime, a hot-swappable UPS is essential. Repairing a traditional UPS above 5 kVA typically requires 1 to 2 hours of downtime while connected systems are powered down, the new UPS is wired into the circuit and systems are started up, tested and returned to service. Performing the same repair with a SmartOnline Hot-Swappable UPS System doesn’t require any downtime.
Is a hot-swappable UPS expensive? SmartOnline Hot-Swappable UPS Systems are typically priced at or below the level of traditional UPS systems that lack a bypass PDU, and adding one will add hundreds of dollars to the cost of a traditional UPS. Traditional UPS systems above 5 kVA also require expensive service contracts or specialists for repairs. And don’t overlook the high cost of downtime. A recent Aberdeen Group survey found that data center downtime cost businesses an average of USD 138 000 per hour, so a hotswappable UPS can pay for itself very quickly.
