A LITTLE ABOUT ME

INTERESTS

I am a third year enthusiastic fashion design student. I love exploring with silhouettes and have a keen interest in prints and thread embroidery. My love for geometricacy is reflected a lot in my work. Two things that I really admire are vintage lifestytle and country side. Something that uplifts me is travelling. It gives me a lot of positivity and motivation. Still finding my place of interest by exploring in different fields. I strongly believe in designing ethically and hard work. Hoping to share the creativity in me to get acknowledged and loved. Here is a little compilation of my work. Hope you like it.

Pattern Making

LI.TRI.GLE Brief: To make a trouser and dress using creative pattern making skills.

v

LI.TRI.GLE Inspired by Principles of Design. A 3D model showing Contrast. I’ve depicted contrast through different thickness of lines and colours; an illusion of radial and triangular shape is also being formed. I’ve made a casual collection in which the garments include two colours when worn in reverse. The cuts in the garment represent the shapes.

2

Pattern Making

TEHRAN Brief: To make a skirt and basic bodice top using creative pattern making skills.

TEHRAN Inspired by the Azadi tower, Iran. I’ve taken the legs of the monument and exaggerated it as a shawl collar. Explored with the lines by creating a texture on the collar using anchor threads. Showing a contrast by playing with lines and print, I’ve used the pattern carved underneath the tower. The silhouette in the garment is a simple hour glass.

Embroidery

THE FROZEN WORLD Brief: To understand the craft of hand embroidery and develop motifs using an inspiration to make a saree.

THE FROZEN WORLD Inspired by different forms of Snow. I’ve created motifs using the shape of snowflake, the texture creatured in a snow cave.

Draping

URBAN CHIC Brief: To make a corset using draping techniques. To understand this we had to make toiles of the basic structures. Thereafter we could variate it.

URBAN CHIC The idea behind this garment was to break the mind sets and idea of corsets as a red carpet look. Usually corsets are worn by the elite. To break this monotony, Ive given a corset a more casual appeal. Something which is acceceptable to a larger society of people.

5

Draping

HAUT MONDE

Brief: To make a jacket using draping techniques. To understand this we had to make toiles of the basic structures. Thereafter we could variate it.

6

Design Process

TOUCHSTONE Brief: To make a collection of garments following a complete design process.

AS YOU LIKE IT WILLIAM SHAKESPEAR

INSPIRATION BOARD

THEME BOARD Inspired by the play “As You Like It by William Shakespear. I studied the main characters in detail and based by theme on the fool Touchstone. He was the motley fool of the court who accompanied Rosalind and Celia along with in the Jungle. He was popular for his outfit and his sense of humour. His personality is interesting as he uses puns in a humurous way to justify most of his statemants.

MOOD BOARD

The mood this garment depicts is perky and colourful. The contrasting colours used give a positive appeal. It will make you feel happy and radiant.

CLIENT BOARD The client segment this collection caters to are young, energetic, edgy women. It is for women who love to explore with colours and silhouettes. Keeping in mind different body shapes, these garments works wonders espicially for pear shaped women. My client is a young 19 year old product design student. She loves wearing colourful prints and expresses her funny, edgy side through her style.

TREND BOARD

Modern and graphic art that plays with light and shadow works as a basis for this bold story. All-over print, print mixing and a resurgence of retro geos form new statement pieces. Silhouettes are pared back to make way for a flurry of pattern and colour. A sleeveless mesh minidress sits on top of a printed silk camisole base. Drape soft checked shirting across the front for a clashing look.

WABI-SABI Brief: An illustration assignment where in we had to make a colection for kids using any age group.

WABI-SABI “Wabi-Sabi” means “to find beauty in imperfection”. In Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of imperfection Inspired by the innocent drawings of kids original artworks from the age 5-8 year olds.

Drawings used to create embroidery and prints

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT To understand the trends better I refered to the WGSN trend forecast. Thereafter I derived the silhoeuttes for my collection from the artwork itself. Image Source- WGSN Forecast

PRINTS

EMBROIDERY

ILLUSTRATIONS All the silhouettes have been deriveed from the drawings itself. The ensembles consist of a print or embroidery developed from the drawing.

Print Development

PRINTS Brief: To make screen and digital prints inspired by our surrounidngs.

Milieu A range of various prints inspired by the surroundings. We had to go out and click pictures of things that we find interesting. Thereafter, we created prints out of the same. Some are used as it is and some were a combination of various elements . The print seen on this page is inspired by dried fallen leaves. Two colour variations have been explored with.

9

Khadi Competition

AAR PAAR Brief: A competition where we had to design a collection of 10 garments using khaadi.

AAR PAAR “Aar Paar” is a semi-formal, winter collection brought together by 11 neophyte yet enthusiastic designers. The collection comprises of a centuary old fabric wearable for the jeans clad and crop top wearers of today. It bridges the gap between conventional and modern aesthetics. It caters to the young professional energetic women of India. Khadi is known for its simplicity and comfort. Thus, we have interpreted khadi as versatile and comfort in a way which is not commonly used, by making our garments structural and giving it an asymmetric look.

We won two awards namely ‘Best Theme Dress of the year’ and ‘Best innovative design of the year’. We personally received a lot of appreaciation from the jury panel and the judges.
