REINVENT CORPORATE RETREATS

TIRED OF THE SAME OLD CARROT & STICK? We believe that the most rewarding experiences are the ones earned by a little sweat upon the brow, that the most piquant meals are prepared with our own hands and that the most enduring loyalties are born out of a sense of being a part of something exclusive and out of the ordinary. Delivering experiences like these which resonate and endure is not simply about entertainment but rather about engaging participants in an experiential program that finds the sweet spot across four different realms: entertainment, imagination, education and value. Horizon & Co’s trips are carefully choreographed to leverage the power of experiential travel as a catalyst to ignite the imagination and engage the emotions to create powerful associations and lifelong memories. Our corporate clients use these experiences to motivate, rejuvenate and innovate. In the pages ahead you will see a small sampling of our corporate portfolio and the experiences we custom design to fit the strategic goals of forward thinking organizations -- from emergent innovators to fortune 500s. We’ve separated these experiences into three streams:

REWARD: EMPLOYEE INCENTIVES RECOGNIZE: CLIENT HOSPITALITY & LOYALTY REINVENT: CORPORATE RETREATS

Jackson Hole - Winter Playground

16

An Epic Peruvian Adventure

17

Sedona, Arizona Desert Retreat

18

The 7th Continent, Antarctica

19

In practice however, our experiences can be tailored to fit across categories. Take for example our flagship Masters Golf experiences. First designed as an extraordinary hospitality opportunity, the power and pull of this exclusive experience had clients clamoring for more. We now regularly design powerful incentive programs built around the lure of Augusta National as well as marry this experience with meeting and training opportunities for corporate retreats.

20-23

Regardless of which experiences are right for your organization, the key to a successful program, whether the goal is employee retention, management team-building or client loyalty, is a laser-like focus on Return on Investment. To achieve this, we keep our approach dead simple - we work with companies to assess needs; we articulate those into a simple brief (or program spec); we then design, stage & execute against the brief.

REINVENT CORPORATE RETREATS QUESTION: How to cultivate creativity, innovation and leadership development within your organization? Gary Hamel, the world’s reigning strategy guru, identified the most important issue of our time as building organizations “where innovation is both radical and systemic”.

ANSWER: Horizon designs unique travel experiences that acts as a catalyst for unlocking creative potential and innovative thinking. We achieve this goal by taking people to challenging environments where their conventional thinking simply won’t work. In our experience, environments that challenge people to think are the only environments capable of effecting real, sustainable change. They do this by shifting people’s perspective, something that occurs when the theatre of travel is staged in a truly innovative, unique and holistic way. Our executive retreats are intentionally designed to take people “comfortably” out of their comfort zones in order to shift their perspective, thereby liberating them to explore complex business challenges in new and creative ways.

CASE STUDY MADE TO MEASURE TRAVEL

BESPOKE TAILORING

OUR PHILOSOPHY:

THE TAILORS:

The prceeding ideas are meant as just a sample of what we can do. Every Horizon experience is completely customizable and more often than not you’ll find a great reward trip is easily tweaked to build an equally stunning recognition program. Let your imagination and your expectations run wild – Horizon will do the rest.

Our team of global nomads, regional cognoscenti and logistical gurus will craft a private trip to fit the unique needs and interests of your incentive, hospitality or corporate retreat group. Our equally impressive team of local guides will ensure that the journey is executed seamlessly, leveraging local relationships, mining insider knowledge, and unlocking their creativity to deliver a pitchperfect performance.

We plan all of our trips on the premise that engagement, immersion, and serendipity are the richest rewards for any journey. We are firm believers that the most memorable moments are the ones preceded by a seamless transition from passively observing to actively participating. Our ambition is to create the space in people’s lives where they can experience the joys of a purely spontaneous moment, when the cares of the world slip away and the mind and body become one.

CLIENT: US-based Investment Banking Firm.

BRIEF: To design a program that would allow the bank’s hospitality and incentive strategy to stand apart from their competitors and demonstrate improved and measurable return on investment.

OUR APPROACH: In our experience, the greatest challenge in building extraordinary travel experiences for larger groups is in leveraging the group format where it has strengths and de-constructing it where it is weak. Too often, the limitations of group travel become a straightjacket where everyone must conform to the lowest common denominator and no one ends up happy. We start by breaking down the group size into more intimate and manageable groups of 10-15, each with their own personal guide. Then we structure the days to combine fixed group activities that travelers come together to experience (i.e. al fresco picnics, Michelin-starred meals) with flexible options which are built along three thematic channels: physical activities (walking tours, rural biking, sea-kayaking, etc); gastronomic activities (wine tasting, cooking demos, etc); and cultural activities (art history tours, private choral performances, etc). Even when we have to come together for larger group experiences, we do everything possible to break down the format into more intimate sub-groups. Thus, when dining we stagger seating time and break the groups into smaller tables, when experiencing an event we design the flow for maximum flexibility so that people can arrive and depart of their own accord, and when listening to experts we avoid lecture halls and focus on interactive small group discussions.

20

THE THREAD: It’s often the things that you can’t see that are most important when it comes to holding it all together. Whether it’s agonizing over the wine selection at dinner, tasting every soupe de poisson within a hundred mile radius, or testing out each bed in Tuscany, we’re thorough about every detail. We’re thoughtful and we’re clever enough to hide all of the stitching, so that you can relax and enjoy the spontaneity of the moment.

THE CLOTH: The materials that go into constructing your company’s perfect trip are as varied as your individual taste. Hotel gems are one of our hallmarks and the less obvious the better. Transfers are about experiences, not mere transportation, so we’d take a helicopter over a bus any day. Meals are fuel for the soul, not just the body, and we have a weakness for regional specialties. Local events and characters are opportunities for epiphanies, not just distractions to pass the time.

THE FITTING: The best tailoring springs from a relationship of intimacy and trust between client and tailor. From a get-to-know-you consultation with our travel designers, we distil the essential elements of your mandate. Then we begin a dialogue to understand the motivations that lie behind the answers. The process is dynamic, and often requires multiple fittings, but the end result is a genuine understanding of the goals of your company and what they are seeking.
