Reception and Accommodation Student ‘Main’ Activity – NITB: Meet and Greet
Reception and Accommodation STUDENT ‘MAIN’ ACTIVITY – NORTHERN IRELAND TOURIST BOARD: MEET AND GREET This student ‘main’ activity is based on the case study about some of the materials produced by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board. In this activity you will take part in several different customer service situations, using simple foreign language skills. Your teacher will tell you which language to use. Your teacher may ask you to work alone (at a computer or using a printed worksheet), or with a partner or in a small group. Look at this photo of a couple with their young son at a hotel reception desk. They are overseas visitors to Northern Ireland.

You are on duty at reception. Your colleague asks you to use your language skills to help provide good service to this family. On the next page are details of several situations. You need to decide what you will say and do in each situation. Remember to keep some notes, as you may be asked to take part in some role plays. Click to hear the customers speak in French or German. They speak some French/German, and have been visiting those countries, but are not nationals. Increase the volume if needed. If you are not at a computer or your chosen customers do not speak French or German, use your knowledge of your chosen foreign language to work out what the family is likely to say in each situation, and what you would say.
