Join us for a bus trip to Capital One Hall in Tyson’s to see Killer Queen - A Tribute To Queen. Led by charismatic Freddie Mercury-look-andsoundalike Patrick Meyers. What started as a one-night thing has now spanned over 25 years and has been welcomed the world over due to smashing attention to detail, energetic performances and of course, the most brilliant back catalog to draw upon. Tennis is a whole new ball game. Balls, rackets and courts sized just right for kids. It’s all about the play. Children learn best when they have an opportunity to play and have fun. Reston Tennis youth classes focus on practice, learn and play using the QuickStart format. Children will learn to play tennis by playing tennis. Reston Tennis implements the games-based approach to tennis, which means involving participants in tennis play within the first hour of the program.

Aces

Kids enjoy a fun, motivating introduction to tennis, emphasizing fun and play. It’s the fast, fun way to get kids into tennis and keep them playing. To be enrolled in Aces II, you must have completed Aces I with instructor approval.

Futures Orange ball is played on a 60-by-21-foot court, with an orange ball and a 23- to 25-inch racket.

This class is designed for players that have some tennis experience or are coming from the Aces II classes. Orange Dot Balls are a perfect way to get your young athlete involved in the game of tennis. They travel at half the speed of a standard tennis ball, giving it a lower bounce and making the game more accessible to children 8 to 10 years old. This course will include drills for footwork, shot preparation, and recovery.

While this course will work on improving basic strokes, the emphasis will be on developing game tactics and strategies for match competition. Junior Tennis

This is RA’s Beginner and Advanced Beginner Lessons for ages 10-12 years old. These classes are intended for kids that are still developing their technical abilities and ball recognition skills. This class uses regular yellow balls.

Level One is designed for students with little or no tennis experience. Players will learn proper grips, footwork patterns, and correct swing technique for forehand, backhand, serve, and volleys.

Level Two is for players who have repeated Level One a few times. The class will have heavy emphasis on ball control, hitting over the net with margin of error, and learning to rally.

Intro to Pickleball

Introduces pickleball strokes and unique terminology. Students will have a blast learning how to serve, dink, volley, and hit ground strokes.

Reviews intro strokes with an emphasis on execution. Students will learn how to execute the third shot drop, lob, and overhead strokes. Introduces advanced pickleball rules, scoring, and basic strategy.

EXPERIENCE TENNIS & PICKLEBALL

Adult Tennis

Beginners

Introduces serve, volley, forehand, and backhand strokes, court positions, and tennis terms.

Advanced Beginners

Reviews beginners’ strokes with an emphasis on stroke execution. Introduces lob and overhead, scoring, and rules. Students must know the basic strokes and forehand rallying.

Intermediate

For those wishing to perfect their strokes through drills with an emphasis on consistency, singles and doubles strategy, and match play.

Note: We cannot guarantee court preference. On some occasions, classes may be combined at one location or students may be asked to move from one level to another to maximize the ability for congenial class instruction. Depending on class enrollment, class times may be subject to change.

How it works: You must have your Reston Association

Recreation pass with you to participate. Bring a can of tennis balls. Doubles format, best of five games with NO-AD scoring. Player’s skill level 3.0-4.0. The winning team will stay on the same court but will split and change partners. Losing team will slide to the next court down where a winning team will have split and will accept one player each. A great way to meet new players in this great social setting. Call the tennis office at 703-435-6534 for details.

This is a women’s competitive league. All levels of players are invited to join one of our teams in the Greater Washington Daytime Doubles Tennis League. League play occurs in the spring and fall. Reston Association sponsors four women’s teams in this league.

Women play at Lake Newport, Hook Road, and Autumnwood on weekday mornings or travel to other area clubs. *Non-residents must purchase an RA tennis membership to participate.

Men! Women! Seniors! Play singles, doubles, or mixed doubles in the Northern Virginia Tennis League. This league begins mid-May and continues through July.

Men play at Lake Newport, Newbridge, Uplands, and travel to play against other clubs on Saturday mornings.

Reston Team Tennis (RTT)

Reston Team Tennis, formally known as World Team Tennis, is one of our most popular leagues. This is a social, yet competitive league. Please call the tennis office at 703435-6502 if you would like to join a team or start your own. Non-residents must purchase an RA Tennis Recreation pass to participate.

Format: Men’s & Women’s Singles and Men’s & Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles 3.0-3.5 on Wednesday nights and 4.0-4.5 on Thursday nights. All players must be rated before joining a team.
