ABOUT THE TREND It’s time to join the dark side. Moody colors mix with rich textures and metallic accessories for a glamorous ‘70s vibe we love.

JAKE ARNOLD JAKE ARNOLD Los Angeles, CA @jakealexanderarnold ON TRENDS IN 2020: “I’m excited for the use of more blues. I am typically very neutral but have been inspired lately to introduce color in bold ways. I am either all or nothing, so dramatic use of colbalt blue and rich tones like this I am excited to delve into.” DESIGN: Jake Arnold | PHOTO: Michael Clifford 13

THE TRENDS I HOPE ARE ON THEIR WAY OUT: Furry pillows! I loved them but they can date a room and they’ve got to go! They lose their appeal quickly and can really pick up a smell. Leave your furry pillows behind in 2019.

5 Questions with BREEGAN JANE BREEGAN JANE Los Angeles, California @breeganjane

THE TRENDS I’M EXCITED FOR IN 2020: I’m still talking about mixed metals and hope this continues to evolve. Another thing I love is the incorporation of technology into kitchen and bath design. 18

MY FAVORITE LAS VEGAS MARKET DISCOVERY: One of my favorite moments of market is getting to sit down with people that I don’t get to see often. I love the IMC event and my favorite memory was having dinner with my team after the last Vegas Market. I love to shop of course but seeing friends like Kelli Ellis & Patti Carpenter make all the travel worth my while!

PHOTOS: Ryan Garvin

MY DESIGN STYLE IN THREE WORDS: Approachable, Modern, Luxury MY LAS VEGAS MARKET ESSENTIAL: I love to bring my enhanced Jansport backpack. I have added a few details so it’s cute but mostly, it’s super functional and what I really need at market. It holds everything. When I’m in a pinch, I also like to pick up the tote bags from the show, they have saved me more than a few times when I have too many things to hold. Thank you Loloi Rugs! 19

Los Angeles, CA @christopherleefoto

When did you first discover your love of photography? JENNA PEFFLEY: I’m a storyteller at heart and incredibly nostalgic. I got my first pink and turquoise 110 film LeClic camera in the early 80s at the age of five and took photos of everything — my family eating dinner, my messy bedroom, my Barbies posed into various scenarios, and lots of people. I’ve always had a camera in my hand. It wasn’t until I started working as 20

PHOTO: Janis Nicolay

What would you tell a designer who has never had their work professionally photographed before? JANIS NICOLAY: I’ve had chats with new designers about this many times. I tell them that they need to have clean, clear, styled and beautiful images to make their work shine even more. It also amps up the chance that their work with be published or be recognized for any design awards. PHOTOS: Christopher Dibble

the Photo Director for MyDomaine.com, though, that I got back into the world of interior design and figured out how to combine my love of both things. CHRISTOPHER DIBBLE: Photography has always been a part of my life since as far back as I can remember. My father was a photographer, as was my grandfather. Photography is in my blood, however it wasn’t until I started taking film classes in college that my love of photography really took hold. I fell in love with the challenge of capturing a story in a single frame. 21

Why do you think photography is an important element in interior design?

In three words, how would you describe your photography style?

CHRISTOPHER LEE: Professional photography is not just important but imperative. It artistically captures the essence of an interior designer’s work, providing an essential tool for selling their services to potential clients and sustaining business growth.

JANIS NICOLAY: Natural, Thoughtful, Modern.

JENNA PEFFLEY: Visibility. In our modern society of easily accessed media and endless digital portals of inspiration, a designer’s best project is only as good as the photos they have to show for it and the medium in which it gets shared. What do you love most about living and working on the West Coast? CHRISTOPHER DIBBLE: The light. There is a quality to the light on the West Coast that I really love. What’s great is that light changes dramatically from San Diego to Seattle. Southern California has a light that is warm and viscous because it’s a desert with particles in the air helping diffuse the light, giving it a soft radiance. In Portland and the PNW, the light is crisp and contrast-y resulting in a fresh dramatic effect.

CHRISTOPHER LEE: Natural, Editorial, Lifestyle. PHOTO: Christopher Lee

THE TRENDS I’M EXCITED FOR IN 2020: I try very hard to stay away from any trends but I do appreciate that play on pattern is being seen more and more. I appreciate the use of monochromatic schemes I’m seeing as well for the right room. I appreciate the use of cabinetry — I am seeing more and more built-ins!

5 Questions with CARA FOX THE FOX GROUP Holladay, Utah @the_fox_group_

MY LAS VEGAS MARKET ESSENTIAL: My market essential is to bring an open heart to what you feel beauty is, keep your eye and more importantly your heart out for how a piece or design makes you feel! 30

THE TRENDS I HOPE ARE ON THEIR WAY OUT: Again I tend to go opposite of trends so I don’t pay much attention to them. My favorite design quote is by style icon Karl Lagerfeld when he said, “Trendy is the last stage before tacky.” HEADSHOT: Lindsay Salazar PHOTOS: Scott Davis

MY DESIGN STYLE IN THREE WORDS: Timeless, Thoughtful, Alive MY FAVORITE LAS VEGAS MARKET MEMORY: My favorite Las Vegas Market memory was back when I was 23 and just starting out. I knew what I loved but was still unsure and not quite believing in myself. With confidence waning, I showed some of my work to a designer there I had just met who was much older than I was. She stopped me mid sentence and said you are so talented but lack faith in yourself! Find that faith and nothing can stop you. I have tried to take that advice to heart from the moment I heard it and am forever grateful for her words! 31

THE TRENDS I HOPE ARE ON THEIR WAY OUT: » Chevron pattern (forever, please!) » Greyyyy— let’s pick a new neutral » Nautical, unless we’re at the beach » The cookie cutter Pinterest look, ya know what I mean

5 Questions with KRISTINE RENEE DESIGN ALCHEMY Sacramento, California @shopdesignalchemy

THE TRENDS I’M EXCITED FOR IN 2020: » Chunky, curvy upholstery! » Oversized accessories » ALL the wallpaper (always a trend in my book) » A break from brass finishes 38

MY LAS VEGAS MARKET ESSENTIAL: Staying at the new Nomad Hotel is a must— nothing is more essential than a good night’s rest before hitting the showroom floor. Tiki drinks at Frankie’s and half priced steak at Herb and Rye (sounds a little strange, but check it out— the cocktails and plates don’t disappoint).

PHOTOS: Stephanie Russo

MY DESIGN STYLE IN THREE WORDS: Comfortable, Eclectic, Personable MY FAVORITE LAS VEGAS MARKET DISCOVERY: We are a mother-daughter team— I started tagging along to Las Vegas Market back in high school, so it’s safe to say, there are SO many special memories that have been experienced between the two of us. My favorite early memories at market are definitely dancing to live music in the front courtyard after opening day at market. More recently, we have found and met amazing artisans and vendors in the pavilions/temporaries— it’s such an awesome spot to seek out new talent and source neat antiques, rugs and accessories to fill our retail shop and clients’ homes. 39
