Q&A with Maureen Lindstrom
I have always had a love of all things design. I enjoy collaborating with my clients to find their perfect style, whether that is a neutral color palette layered with texture or a mix of bold colors and patterns that really pop. I always know we’ve nailed the perfect design when I get goosebumps bringing the details together. The best part of my job is truly getting to know each client and feeling like we are old friends by the time the process is completed.
My favorite pieces this season are… The Blanc Dresser and Bed Bench are some of my favorite A.R.T. Furniture pieces from this season. I love the new Blanc Collection! The pieces all feel fresh and new, with clean lines and

I love working with A.R.T. Furniture because…
Our team likes working with A.R.T. Furniture, as we know that everything will always be of great quality. I think A.R.T. does a wonderful job of coming out with beautiful new collections that can tie seamlessly into our designs for our clients. They stay on top of trends, but always have a classic feel to their furniture.

TALK
As we transition into fall
A.R.T. Furniture is proud to present our new and inspiring introductions at this
market. We are thrilled to partner with some of the largest
retailers in the world, designing in tandem with them to launch some incredible collections into the marketplace this fall. At A.R.T., style and value are always in the forefront of our creative minds, ensuring that our new product launches will perform well in the retail market and take center stage in homes across the country and abroad.
“I FIND THAT TRENDS ARE MOVING

with Katie
A.R.T.
Creativity is a non-stop process for our design team. “We usually begin development on our collections more than a year before they are introduced to our retail partners,” says A.R.T. Creative Director Katie Gumerson, “so we are constantly looking for inspiration!” This season’s introductions will focus on harmonies of mixed materials within each new collection. A.R.T. is poised to launch two new whole-home collections this fall, Portico and Mezzanine. Mezzanine combines lightly traditional style with a twist of eclecticism. “Portico is inspired by contemporary fashion architecture in Miami and reveals a mixed-material, high-contrast assortment,” says Katie Gumerson. Contemporary with an edge of coastal, Portico features a distinctive white gesso finish with a subtle stucco texture paired with a Mindi veneer that resembles oiled teak. “This combo is just so ‘Miami’ and really makes the collection different from anything in the marketplace." By contrast, says the creative director, “Mezzanine is inspired by the warmth of mirrored bistros in Paris, made more eclectic with the addition of maple marquetry and cool pewter accents.” Each product group, which includes bedroom, dining, upholstery, occasional and home office, has a unique sensibility which is also informed by the signature “DNA” of our Architectural, Reimagined, and Truth aesthetic.
As part of our commitment to staying ahead of the design and business curves, A.R.T. will be enhancing and expanding our North American-built upholstery assortment, and these new frames will layer into our core casegoods collections. Our mission is to translate design trends by evaluating those that are performing at the highest level of the marketplace, then cost-engineer this inspiration into our price point. The Creative Director sees this as an effective strategy that keeps A.R.T. at the top of our game. "A.R.T. is a brand where we can pivot quickly, according to the needs of our customers,” she says. “We ask for their direct input during the product development process, and they see us as an important partner,” she adds. This feedback guides the creative direction of the brand, keeping us on our toes and tailoring our business to trends that sell.
Both our new introductions and those that are currently in the marketplace are innovative and truly showcase our “high quality, high style” mantra. “In our new collections that will be sold this fall and future collections,” Katie Gumerson says, “we are focusing on trends like fluid shapes in upholstery, plush fabrics with lots of nap and thickness, bleached wood finishes, high-contrast color palettes, and mixing of unique materials.” We look forward to sharing Portico and Mezzanine with the world, as part of our continuing and ever-evolving A.R.T. design story!
“WE ARE ABLE TO OFFER SOMETHING SPECIAL TO OUR CUSTOMERS THAT THEY WOULD TYPICALLY SEE IN A MUCH HIGHER-PRICE BAND.”
“OVER THE NEXT YEAR THE EVOLUTION IS GOING TO BE VERY VISIBLE.”
BOTANICALS
Inspired by a life more wild, botanical motifs are blooming across the design world with a fresh take on femininity. Florainspired forms, finishes and fabrics can be found across all categories from textiles to case goods, yet you won’t find flower-power prints here. This season, subtle and sophisticated floral interpretations are having their moment in the sun. Understated details form a bouquet of brilliance, with elegant inlay, hardware and carving all featuring alluring botanical forms.
UNIQUE IN NATURE
New this season: Snowcap Organic, our exclusive bleached white, digitally printed spalted maple, captures beauty made randomly by nature. Shadowy spalting and marble-like veining add depth and dimension atop a light ground reminiscent of snow. Glamorous complements: custom hardware that emulates its figured grain (at right) and dimpled drawer pulls (on left) in Majestic Gold. Also offered in Naturally Organic (below), our digitally printed spalted maple with warmer wood tones.
Our Highs and Lows sideboard is designed with adjustable metal legs that allow you to raise the height for a more traditional console, or lower it to accommodate media.

My interior aesthetic is… Luxury celebrity interior.
I am inspired by… I’m finding inspiration from the runways of Paris and Milan. A renaissance in music, design, and culture is coming from a new interpretation and revitalization of late 70’s and early 80’s music and fashion. There is a reimagining of texture and color that was very prevalent in these decades.
I love working with Caracole because…
I have been working with Caracole for almost 15 years, and the quality of the product is exquisite. The attention to detail on every item, from the interior of a drawer to the crystal inlay of a drawer pull, is second to none. Caracole is a leader in furniture design and trendsetting.

My interior aesthetic is… Eclectic, modern, and comfortable.
I am inspired by…
Design Cie is a multicultural company based in Europe and the US. As such, we send ideas back & forth across the Atlantic as we see inspiration from across the globe. When visiting Copenhagen last June, we were inspired by Scandinavian hygge and lighting. Last Spring, we experienced the height of Spanish creativity at the annual Casa Decor showcase in Madrid. At High Point Market in April, we were inspired by the American’s ability to create comfortable seating and transitional styles.
I love working with Caracole because…
We love to work with Caracole! Their furniture has perfect scale, fitting small and large spaces when needed. Their attention to detail in each piece is what attracts us, from the exquisite design of each piece, to the high quality of the closing mechanism. Most importantly, we get support from the very beginning of the project up to delivery, especially in these trying times. We feel Design Cie and Caracole form a seamless team!

This project was very much about building the design around the clients' existing artwork and heirloom pieces. In the family room, we tied existing artwork with a sectional to provide comfortable seating for large scale gatherings or an intimate, cozy gathering for two.
Design Cie uses Caracole products, from casegoods to tables to seating, in all our projects. In this particular project, we used two Remix sofas and the Edge sectional. Creating harmonious tension between old and new is what makes a room special.

My interior aesthetic is… Chic, original, elegant.

This season I am feeling a lot of my inspirations coming from fashion, textiles and materials. Travel for me is and always will be a splendour for my eyes. I am always drawing inspiration from everything that is around me. I’m seeing a lot of colour and neons, textiles and textures. I’ve been on many inspirational trips in the past twelve months, but the destinations that have made an impact were Milan, Turkey, and Amsterdam, where the buildings, the colours, the canals and the tranquility of the water were very special.
I love working with Caracole because… Caracole provides quality and craftsmanship to all their pieces. Most importantly, though, is the glamour each piece expresses. That brings me back to Caracole for many of our projects.

From the beautiful marble on top to the unique and distinctive shape, the Contempo Side table has a lot of great dimension and flair.
The scale, weight, and presence of the Handsome Cocktail table were the perfect reasons to select it for this project. I love the different textures featured on the table. Having both reflective and non-reflective surfaces allowed it to have a big presence in the room.

Q&A with Natasha Chatkin
My interior aesthetic is…
Fascinating, dramatic, imaginative.
I am inspired by…
Our designs are deeply influenced by travel. With a vast majority of our clients being European, insight into new ideas from abroad is imperative. Throughout the year, we invest in trips to Paris and Milan, as well as influential domestic destinations like Miami, Chicago and High Point to gather ideas and inspiration.
I love working with Caracole because…
We could go on and on! What Caracole brings to the table is a unique pairing of both function and style. Our company is able to leverage Caracole pieces to bring our clients a sophisticated and European-inspired look while also promising affordability and durability. The best part for a design company, though, is that Caracole doesn’t stand still. We always have something new to choose from with ever-changing inventory. Caracole’s innovation helps us to stay flexible and creative in doing what we do best!
This project features…
We relied exclusively on Caracole pieces to bring this project to life. Caracole’s selection allowed us to play with pieces that were sophisticated, yet comfortable. Interesting, yet simple and functional.
These clients have European roots, and as such, wanted to connect a contemporary and European style with a feeling of softness and relaxation. We created an interior atmosphere that is both tranquil and stylish with the help of soft colors and our selection from Caracole.

When there are endless materials, textures and treatments to choose from, why create with just one? Remarkable beauty begins with a modern blend of materials, and daring new furniture designs allow stone, metal, textiles and more to share the stage. Inspired combinations like reeded glass and raffia bring sensory appeal to new heights, blending organic and contemporary elements for a result that’s equally elevated and unexpected.

artistic SHOWCASE
Lisa Mende takes us inside FLOWER Magazine’s 2022 Atlanta Showhouse.
Set to be unveiled this November, FLOWER Magazine’s multi-designer Atlanta showhouse promises to be an unmissable event. The elaborate Regency-style Buckhead home, designed by noted architects Peter Block & Associates, will be transformed by twenty-one design firms, all handselected by FLOWER Magazine Editor-in-Chief Margot Shaw.
When Lisa Mende, founder and creative director of Charlotte-based Lisa Mende Design, was tapped to participate, she dreamt the project would merge grand tradition with modern fantasy. Paying homage to her late Aunt Betty, an early source of aesthetic inspiration, Mende wrapped the room in exotic florals and beautiful fabrics. Lisa shares, “Many of the pieces I chose from Jonathan Charles have an antique feel or unusual finish which I know she would love.”
Lovingly named ‘Betty’s Garden’, the bedroom features a polished assortment of Jonathan Charles furniture––including a sleek black Flux Lacquer Étagère and grey oak Bodiam Bench––which ground the lush wallpaper and leopard accents with streamlined forms. In a breathtaking collaboration with artist Stephen Wilson, a custom seven-foot Serene Embroidered Panel Bed will be embellished with three-dimensional flora.
The hallmarks of Mende’s style––bold aesthetics rooted in tradition––are everywhere. The walls are graced with Thibaut’s stunning Jardin Bloom mural, and decadently draped in shades of citrine, amethyst and aquamarine. Echoes of blue form a throughline of serenity. From the marbled bedside drawers of the Remanence Large Side Table to the painted interior of the Alnwick Washed Acacia Bureau, the color provides a strong sense of peace.
While Mende’s space won’t be revealed until late autumn, one thing is certain: her Atlanta showcase is guaranteed to delight with reinvented tradition and unexpected moments of artistry.

Wilson’s artwork will also be featured in the Jonathan Charles showroom at High Point Market, where the luxurious Serene portfolio will become a canvas for his whimsical work. Adamant supporters of artisans and craft, Jonathan Charles sees endless possibilities in the collaboration between designers and artists. Through the bedroom and beyond, custom pieces can become more than just COM fabric; by adding 3D visuals, any design can be elevated to a work of art.
Stephen Wilson creates exquisite displays of beauty by blending traditional embroidery techniques with 3D printing, laser engraving, and other modern manipulations. Recently, the Charlotte-based mixed media artist teamed up with designer Lisa Mende to enhance her FLOWER Magazine Showhouse bedroom with a bespoke headboard sprinkled with fluttering butterflies and floral clusters. Meticulously crafted, the finished design took 40 hours to embroider on “beautiful blue velvet” selected by Mende.

tactile textiles & TEXTURES
Captivating in its subtlety, texture is essential magic in every designer’s bag of tricks. This season, tactile finishes are on the rise with furniture and fabrics pushing the boundaries of technology and craftsmanship. Often focused on organic materials––rattan, grasscloth, and textured wool are popular elements––this design movement mimics the visual variety found in nature. The versatile character of texture is also key; minimalist placement reads wonderfully restrained, while maximalism feels like an aesthetic feast.

For those who dream of a sun-drenched European getaway, a fresh, modern Mediterranean spin on our Rowe aesthetic delivers an organic and inviting experience. Natural materials and crisp whites combine with textured textiles in a warm, sunlit look inspired by indoor/outdoor living.
Our recent introductions evoke feelings of modern luxury and refined living. From crisp Mediterranean white and tropical green to leather designed for everyday living, upholstery takes center stage this season. The sleek and chic modern Vista desk is also a standout addition to our occasional lineup.
DIMITRY
Generously proportioned for all styles of living, the Dimitry modular sectional wraps guests in the warm embrace of luxurious upholstery. Its wide, low frame and deep cushions create the perfect place for everything from deep conversation to deep relaxation.

TREND TALK
Market season is here! As we prepare to share our new inspiration with all of you, Rowe is thrilled to be introducing a broad lineup of new upholstery and occasional pieces, as well as adding 100 new textiles to our array of options. Another inspiring development will be the evolution of our performance fabric offerings. We are excited to be partnering with Valdese Weavers and introducing Sustain Performance Fabrics into our Kid Proof fabric assortment. As the world of performance fabrics continues to expand, Sustain represents a wonderful solution for a healthy home. We hope you’ll join us at our showroom on Saturday, October 21st to meet members of the Sustain team and learn more.
As the fall season arrives and the new year approaches, Rowe is looking to the horizon with excitement and anticipation. “We are so inspired by world travel this season, says Rowe Creative Director Laura Mabe, adding that, “people are ready to explore again, and the trending lifestyles we are using to support our new product speak of far-away destinations.” The purifying blue of the Mediterranean sky and sea is a recurring theme, as are the soft edges and curved architectural arches of that sun-drenched locale. In a tropical twist, Rowe
is also embracing a lush palette of foliage greens, along with the sun-bleached terracotta chic rattan elements found in a retro resort. “We are finding fresh ways to incorporate these elements into our fabric selections, finish selections and product design,” says Laura Mabe.
“The pieces in thesenew collections have an architectural and sculptural feel while maintaining a classic andtimeless aesthetic.”

Natural Materials
A sun-kissed palette of stone, sand and sky meets natural textures in a look inspired by indoor/outdoor living.
This fall market, Rowe is debuting several new occasional table collections aimed to entice and inspire designers. “Their dramatic scale is softened with casual finishes that are easily used to create spaces with a personalized stamp,” says the creative director. Our new upholstery options will include new “drapey” slipcovered chairs, deep seated sofas and some new stitching details, all designed to complement these new collections with pillowy down softness. A personal favorite of the creative director this season is our new Noel chair, available both slipcovered and fully upholstered. “It is the perfect marriage of comfort, unconventional shape and refinement,” she says. Noel is so unique and versatile — “it’s really two chairs in one!”
Finally, materials and finishes remain a crucial element in telling the Rowe design story. This season will see a focus on natural fibers and a beautiful variety of patterns and textures complementing our new introductions and lifestyle trends. “I could not be more thrilled with our new fabric introductions,” says Laura Mabe. These new textiles are an ideal complement to the new Costa occasional, featuring our Ginger finish, a soft light oak hue. “It is casual, warm, and inviting but light and airy,” says the creative director, “perfect for our travel-inspired showroom setting.” This fall market, we invite you to experience all that Rowe has to offer, from our new introductions to our treasured best sellers.
Always on-trend and ahead of the design curve, Rowe is exploring a sculptural, rounded aesthetic for this season and beyond. “Many of our newest additions have been developed with this in mind,” says Creative Director Laura Mabe, “but not always in a literal sense.” This design choice can be seen on a large scale in our curved back accent chairs and occasional pieces that have a sculptural, artful form, but also in small details like the roundness of an arm shape or unconventional leg shape. “These subtle details keep our product on trend while also remaining classic,” says Laura Mabe.
“We have been embracingthe trend of curved and sculptural design elements, with an authentic Rowe approach.”FEATURED:
